Phantom Brave: We Meet Again Review 8 out 10

Phantom Brave: We Meet Again is a great RPG for this GEN even if it's a port form last gen. For those of you who played the game on the PS2 there are a number of extras added to the Wiimake version of the game, maybe even enough extras to warrant the cash and playtime to buy the game again. One of those nice extras which was not on the PS2 is "Alternate Marona" an added bonus story. I would recommend any new gamers to wait till you have beaten the game to check it out. PS2 gamers should know there is no unlocking the extra mode; you can play Alternate Marona right from the start. Giving even more reasons why PS2 owners of the original may still want to check out the game.

Now for those of you who have not played Phantom Brave and are RPG tactic fans, you will fall in love with this game. You play as Marona who can channel ghosts or as they call them in the game Phantoms. Her first phantom is Ash who helps her through out the story by beating her enemies, trying to protect her and is also a friend she leans on though out the game. There are many other Phantoms you can pick up throughout the game. These Phantoms can be mixed and matched based on the battles adding extra strategy to the game. Morona uses the Phantoms to help her in fights which she does to complete jobs. Locals call upon Morona to use her powers to protect them. The over all story can be very dark and sad at times. Do not let this stop you though from enjoying a overall good story.

The battle system in the game is circular area grid which a player can move around his or her NPC, attack enemies, use items or if you are playing as Marona channel Phantoms. Channeling is a term used in the game which Marona summons a Phantom to the current battle. Using the Phantoms in different ways allows for changes in tactics which would not normally be used in standard grid game. When you use Marona to channel the Phantoms there is a limited number of turns before the Phantom used disappear from the battle field. There are a number of elements in the game which will make even the most hardcore tactics players happy.

Then of course there is the graphics for Phantom Brave which has been upgraded quite nicely from its PS2 counterpart. The sprite models for the characters are still the same ones used from the PS2. Where the game starts to shine is the much better looking backgrounds they are bright and colorful. Phantom Brave is a budget game priced at $40. There are some great moments in the game. I would recommend if you are a RPG or a standard tactic grid gamer than check it out.

Being a Gimmick is a good thing

When Nintendo first came out with the NES most expects called the controls a gimmick and said due to the arrows no one would want to use it. The same experts said the NES was also doomed to fail because gaming has a whole was called a gimmick. So Nintendo added ROB and called the NES a entertainment system. Then when the N64 came out the analog control was called a gimmick again by many gamers until it was copied on and improved. When the rumble came with Star Fox 64 again many so called expects called it a gimmick and to note so did I. I remember even laughing at the rumble pack myself. When Ultima's MMO came out many called the idea of an MMO a fad and gimmick.

The term gimmick is correct when talking about something new and appealing. Many of what you would now call standards in gaming was a gimmick at one time. A tool used to prove itself because it has a something which makes it stand out that others don't have. One more thing to think about once the Sony motion control and the Natel is out the Wiimote will no longer be a gimmick. From that point motion controls will be a new standard in gaming. Maybe not used in every game, even the Wii does not do that. But never the less the Wiimote motion or waggle if you will becomes startard.
