Matchbook Romance are a band who are practically unheard of in the UK, and I hadn't even heard of them until I saw them support The All-American Rejects live. It's a shame because they are the brains and power behing "Monsters", a stomping stormer of a song. As the chilling melody of keys meets and clashes with a massed clap, you are aware that this song isn't going to be any old song - this is going to be a song that stays with you for a while.
As for lyrics, "we are the monsters hiding under your bed" may not sound like the most innovative and most meaningful lyrics you've ever heard, but they are fantastically written enough. A fantastic guitar solo creates an aurora of paradise for serial headbangers everywhere.
It's a shame that not many people will hear this song, because it's a song which deserves nothing more than to be appreciated.

Usually I really don't go for this sort of music, and I've never been a massive Madonna fan either. But there is something about "Sorry" which hits you like a wet fish. The song begins with Madonna speaking in tongues (thankfully, nothing like "American life") and the video follows straight on from the catchy "Hung Up".
"Sorry" has that kind of addictive melody which sticks in your head and won't move out of it. The lyrics are fantastic and the song has a good rhythm to it. I hope the song does well for her.

Breakaway (the album) is pure brilliance. There is not one terrible song on the record, and nothing which is worth turning over. Although Thankful is a strong debut effort, Breakaway proves that Kelly Clarkson not only deserved to win American Idol but proved that she is able to rock out and give each track her all. Congratulations to her for making such a superbly successful album
Best Song: It's close between the powerful but touching Because of You and the fantastic beats of Gone. Both, coincidentally, are placed next to each other in the CD and the contrast between both songs is really quite something
Worst Song: Every song is fantastic, but all the other songs are a mile away from Breakaway, which is still great and easy to sing along to.
Grade: A*

It may be gloomy but "Maps" hits all the right notes. Following their previous growly releases "Date With the Night" and the short but sweet "Pin", a soft tune with a beautiful melody followed amd "Maps" really gives Karen O the chance to shine and prove that she's not all about the growling.
A beautiful piece of rock music, "Maps" is soft on the ears but still has the makings of a rock anthem and is evidence of why The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have fared so well in the music industry and why they deserve to be more popular than they already are.

Don't worry, Dido isn't dead. But her music seems to be as she hasn't done anything in a while now, which is a shame really as Dido oozes class.
Many people describe Dido as either boring or amazing, but I'm in the middle (although swaying to amazing). Dido is very talented as she has proven, but the Life for Rent album is quite repetitive (or so it seems). So while I agree that Dido is a good singer, I wouldn't buy her album again.
Her later stuff is much better than the old stuff. I wasn't a fan of Here With Me or Thank You, but White Flag is an absolutely gorgeous song and Life for Rent is great too. Even the underappreciated Sand In My Shoes is superb.
So will Dido be back soon? I'm not sure, but I certainly hope so.
