TVNR - 'Men of a Certain Age,' 'Alice,' 'Yes Virginia' and 'The Closer'

In this week's cast, I talk about TNT's new anthrocentric dramatic comedy "Men of a Certain Age," as well as Syfy's trippy take on Lewis Carroll's beloved c!assic "Alice." Also, a shout-out to the genre television reviewers at Tuning In to Scifi TV. Original blog posted here.

For my side cast, I talk about the new Christmas special that aired on CBS called "Yes, Virginia." I also celebrated the second season premiere of "Better Off Ted" and the fifth-season resume of "The Closer." I also reiterate my anticipation to the January return and premieres of
"Human Target," "Leverage," "24," "Battlestar Galactica: The Plan" and "Caprica" along with others I mentioned last week including "Chuck," "Psych," "Burn Notice" and "Damages."

Also, a shout-out to Whitney Pandil-Eaton's Prairie Profile of Tony Bernhardt, new general manager at Enerbase in Minot, running in Monday's Minot Daily News.

Original blog posted here.

Enjoy!

New Moon
Today at 2:00 I went to see New Moon by myself which has been occurring a lot lately. I thought that it was better than the first one. I wanted to go see it earlier than I did but for some reason I kept on staying up at night and sleeping past the time that I wanted to go see it. All of the actors were a lot better in New Moon compared to Twilight because, they now have a better idea as to who their characters are now and feel more comfortable in their parts as well. I liked how they did the werewolves as I was concerned about how they would end up looking and they looked real so they did a good job on them. When I left to walk home I had someone ask me if New Moon was more of a "guy" movie and I told him that it was as there was a lot of fighting in it and there was and that the next one would be like that as well. I can not wait until Eclipse because, it will be interesting to see how they do everything, especially the fight with the newborns. Overall the movie was good as it was done a lot better and the special effects were amazing.

Queens Of The Stone Age

CHERISH YESTERDAY - LIVE TODAY - DREAM TOMORROW

Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister

Hey internet it's saturday the 7th of november.

Hey hows it going, first term of school just ended. This how i think i did

Spanish - A
History - B or C
English - A
Math - D
Science - C
Study - No grade
Study - No grade

I get two new clas.ss third term to replace those studies. Foreign languages have always been a problem for me. After taking french for two-three years i jumped ship and switched to spanish. I am understanding it better. I am better at reading it then speaking or hearing it. I did bad on one big test for history, which totally sunk my grade. I can live with a b or c. The teacher and i hate each other for english, but since the cla.ss has such low expectations it's difficult to fail. I failed two tests for math which killed my grade with no resurrections. Physics has been killing, like trig, it's difficult to handle all the math solutions. I didnt do well in Bio or Chem so this year shouldnt be different.

A while ago i told you of this math project i had to do. You create work problems while using law of sines and cosines. I failed the project because i forgot to show the problem worked out in words. The teacher however really liked it and said the only problem was there was no solutions. So i thought i would show you the problems here

1. Grandma Lee is a 92 year old grandmother of 23. She was tricked by her 8 children into living in a nursing home. One day they blind folder her and told her she was going on a cruise. Sometime later she found out she was in an old person's home. Grandma Lee enlisted her good friend, Beatrice G. Snow into breaking her out. The plan was for Beatrice to throw a rope up to Grandma Lee's room on the top floor of the nursing home. The nursing home is 100 feet tall and leans at an angle of 88 degrees. She will attach the rope to the window and shimmy down the rope. She will shimmy on a glider she made out of toilet paper and tooth paste. She will go down at an angle of 40 degrees and land in Beatrice's getaway care, which is located outside the nursing home. After she escaped they will head to Vegas and open a casino with fixed slot machines and overcharged hotel accommodations. How far does Grandma Lee have to travel if the distance between the building and the car is 50ft?

There is three more problems that i will show you later. SNL is on soon with host and musical guest Taylor Swift. Lets see how she does. Before i go to solve the problem above you use the law of sines for sides.

GOODNIGHT AND HAVE A PLEASANT TOMORROW

Favorite Shows on Tv

Hello, tv.com.

It has been too long, hasn't it?

What is everyone up to? I have been sick for a week, but slowly getting better.

Anyway, I wanted to do another blog, it has been forever.

I'll do another list, which is what I love doing most.

My 35 favorite shows on tv.(as in, shows that haven't ended yet)

How many of these are you watching?

35. Damages

I have never liked this show as much as the average critic.
But it is a great show that I still need to catch up on. Eventually, but it isn't a show that I NEED to see.

34. Being Human

One of the few British shows that I have ever truly liked.
What is taking Season 2 so long?

33. Hung

Still need to catch up on this show, but is it good? Absolutely.
Humor is very awkward, which doesn't appeal to everyone, but it does to me.

32. Family Guy

Haven't watched this one in a while, but it is a great show for when you are bored.

31. Medium

Haven't bothered watching the new Season yet.
Quite frankly, it is a great show but it is time to end it already.

30. The Tudors

Pretty much the guilty-pleasure version of 'Rome'.
Is it worth watching? For sure, if not just for it's sexiness and great outfits.

29. Man Vs. Wild

Gotten a little tired of this one, but Bear Grylls never gets boring.

28. 30 Rock

A little too American, but I certainly understand the hype.
Best comedic cast on tv, for sure.

27. The Simpsons

This show never gets old. 21 Seasons old? Damn.

26. Nurse Jackie

One of the best new shows of the year, Edie Falco blows me away with her great performance.

25. Weeds

The humor on this show is getting worse, whilst the drama is only getting better.
It is being dragged on longer than it should have, but it is still worth watching.

24. Rescue Me

This show is like a roller coaster ride, it has big highs and big lows and little in-betweens.
But the occasional great performances and unique story makes it unforgettable.

23. Nip/Tuck

Pretty much the exact same thing as Rescue Me.
But season six, which will be the series' last, is proving to be as dark and as memorable as the first three seasons so far.

22. South Park

A show that has gotten a bit too old, but is it still entertaining? You betcha.

21. Skins

Too high on the list? Pretty much.
But when the show is good, it is pretty heartbreaking.

20. Survivor

In it's 19th Season, and still going on strong.
The only reality show that I would recommend to anyone.

19. Epitafios

I am probably the only person here that will ever watch this show.
It airs on Latin HBO, which means that it is all in Spanish. Pretty awesome.

18. The Office

Behind on this one, mainly because I do not like it as much as during it's first three seasons.
But it is still one of the best comedies on tv.

17. Entourage

I am not yet caught up with this one, but I have been watching episodes here and there and loving it more the more I watch it.

16. In Treatment

I am still not finished with it's first Season.
Why? I do not know. Honestly, I loved what I saw of it. Excellent show.

15. Lost

The show has changed so much, and I don't think that it's as smart or nearly as touching as it used to be.
It actually feels like just another action-y show instead of a powerful, supernatural drama.
Hopefully Season 6 gives it the right send off.

14. Robot Chicken

One of the best ways to kill time.
It can be hit-or-miss-y, but for the most part, it is pure unconditional entertainment.

13. True Blood

What is not fun about this show? It has sex, gore, supernatural people, and decent writing and performances.
The best guilty pleasure on tv. period.

12. Party Down

Probably overrating this show that almost nobody has ever even heard of.
But I love it. I love the characters, the cast, the GUEST STARS(!!!), the humor. It is one of those shows you just simply love.

11. Bored To Death

If I would ever write a comedy, it would be something like this.
Just extremely dry, and probably lame. It's hilarious and akward, I love it.

10. Friday Night Lights

Season 4 is starting all over again, half the cast is gone and the show is just better than ever.

09. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Currently going through it's worst Season yet, but it could still recover.
The people on this show are horrible low-lives, what's not to love?

08. Modern Family

Still very fresh and new, but already loving this one.
The cast is superb, with the likes of Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell.
It has two Colombian characters and the dialog is sharp and histerical. One of the best comedies in a long time.

07. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

My favorite new show that aired this year.
So far, still has not been renewed or cancelled. Hopefully it does get a second season, because it was a true African gem.

06. Big Love

This show has only been getting better and better.
It has gotten better than I ever though it could get. Gut-wrecking and occasionally hilarious.

05. Flight Of The Choncords

The world needs more Folk, I demand it!
As of now, whether Season 3 will happen is still unsure. HBO wants them back, but the Conchords are not convinced yet.
Here's hoping they do at least one more season.

04. The Venture Bros.

Best. Animated show. Ever. Period.
I love everything about this show. It is epic, freaking histerical, has one of the best voice-acting, excellent set of characters, and a better written and less confusing mythology than Lost.

03. Breaking Bad

Bryan Cranston really carries this show, his performance reminds me of the Deadwood cast, it is that good.
The show is very thrilling without being cheap, you never know what will happen next.

02. Dexter

Season 4 is doing what I didn't think was going to be possible.
It is making me love and fear this show even more. This Season's villain, The Trinity Killer, is almost as freaky as Twin Peak's Bob.
What a great ride this show has been.

01. Mad Men

What can I say about the show that hasn't been said already?
It is a work of art, every single frame is. I can just pause any episode and still be amazed by what I see.
I love that about this show. There is a group of people that will never get what I mean, but if you are into art, you should be able to understand.

Pumpkin, are you ready for a treatment?

So, it was just Halloween. I ate lots of candy and had some fun, so all was good.

I decided to carve some pumpkins for Halloween, so I went off to Curtis Orchard, the world's most magical copyright infringement-filled adventure, an apple orchard and pumpkin patch that use without license a bunch of Wizard of Oz names and characters to theme their place, right down to the "Flying Monkey Cafe". I found two decent pumpkins (all the perfect ones were long gone, but I got a good couple) and brought them home to start carving.

I also wanted to carve a Peacekeeper symbol (from Farscape) jack-o-lantern and a Stargate logo jack-o-lantern, but ultimately I settled on a Dollhouse logo one and a Christmas Turtle one! There's always next year for the others.

Here's my Dollhouse one: (the U turned out kinda funky)

And lit...

-

-

And here's my Christmas Turtle jack-o-lantern!

And here it is lit...

How cool is that?

And then there was my costume. I wasn't going out anywhere, so instead of putting together a whole real costume I just wanted something quick and simple as all hell for fun. So, I took an idea from TV.com's list of last-minute TV-inspired Halloween costumes (minus their bashing of Dollhouse which was so annoying) and threw on some pajamas to become: an Active, from Dollhouse!

What do you think?

And here I am as an Active with my Dollhouse jack-o-lantern.

So, that all was pretty cool.

And then I was supposed to have a friend over for an alien movie marathon, but she got sick at the last minute and had to cancel. So, I got my Buffy DVDs and had myself a little marathon of the Halloween episodes and spooky episodes. Not bad for Halloween.

I hope everyone else had a great Halloween too!

What's that lurking behind the shadows

of the light reflecting from the moon. It's me. Not much of a premise is it. Kind of halloween humor. Which, as many now know - or should- tomorrow is halloween. Yes, the time when kids, and the occasional older person, come knocking at your door to ask for candy and various forms of treats. I may be stuck on the side of the other door. The one handing out the treats. Unfortunately, if there even was one, I can not attend a halloween party. Unfortunately, or luckily in my case, I have work. Which on that note is quite good; but good depends on how you define it, I define it as having some adequate days. Unlike this morning when I got called a f**king idiot. It's all because I asked buddy what he wanted to drink. He couldn't understand the question and got pissed and swore at me. And I was the idiot. Other then that it's great. The managers are people you can carry on with. I act serious towards one and she gets mad. It's fun on my part. But that's due to the fact I'm cynical. It's not that I try to be, I just can't help it. This isn't much of an update. Eventually my lethargic body will get enough energy to type it out. Until that's all I can type. For those who can, enjoy halloween. The bad side to working that night will be drunks, drunks in costume and some other people. People who talk like they're black. Not black the people; not to deifne people by color, but the stereotypical black that people attribute to bad diction; the typical slang. But we'll see tomorrow night how everything unfolds. Later.......

It's been nearly a Year since I blogged here

I used to be here all the time and now it seems we've all drifted off into other areas. Most of my old TV Tome friends have crossed over to Facebook, Twitter, or both. It's great because I keep to keep in touch with old friends. Of course I've only got so much time in a day so I've kinda stopped coming here.

I do miss being here though. It's nice to be in a forum for a specific show and know that most people are going to want to hear you talk about that show. I can gush about Dollhouse all I want on the Dollhouse forum and nobody will mind.

Now if only I could win the lottery or something so I have time to do everything I want to do without having to work. Of course that means I will probably actually have to start buying the tickets ...

What's an Ulterior Motive?

It seems I have a new video up. This is really just convenient timing.

Anyway, it's a Firefly video and the song has a few naughty words so be aware of that. The song is an old rap song that's been turned on its ear. I love when they do that.

Here it is.

I'm getting that "Im gonna die alone feeling AGAIN!!"

It comes and goes most of the time. Mostly when I am awake or when I go to bed of when I wake up.. ALONE... that is how I feel ALL the time..

Yes, my daughter is staying with me for the time being, until she has her second baby, but its not that kind of alone feeling.

Its the I wish I had a man in my life feeling. I hate being alone. I hate having to do everything by my self and have no one to call if something bad happens. That scares me, the only family I have around me is my daughter and Im the one she would call if she needed someone,, I have NO ONE!!

Im not really sure what to do. I know going out to meet someone sounds good on paper, but I work week ends, Im NOT going into a bar to meet someone or church, god is NOT my pimp. and I work funny hours during the day to volenteer somewhere.. And most times I have been working six days a week.

I really do not like nor can I afford a datting service. I have tryed those and get old men that just want to try and sleep with me.

GOD!!! what am I going to do..? My older brother got married the other month, his first. he 42, I know there has to be someone out there for me. just finding and meeting them is my question..

Here's a little of what you can ecpect from the book i'm writing

as many of you know by now, I am in the process of writing a book called "Slaying all the myths", a sort of chronological episode guide to the "Buffyverse". Where this book will be different from others is that

1. It is chronolohical-Buffy and Angel episodes will be presented not in the order they aired, but in real-time.

2. I will be focusing on the moral, religious and philosophical implications of each episode.

Here is a sampling:

Episode 1B001

Welcome to the Hell mouth

WRITTEN BY JOSS WHEDON

DIRECTED BY CHARLES MARTIN SMITH

FIRST AIRED MARCH 10, 1997

NOTES: This is the first episode of a two-part series opener.

GUEST STARS:

MARK METCALF-THE MASTER, BRIAN THOMPSON-LUKE, KEN LERNER-PRINCIPAL FLUTIE, JULIE BENZ-DARLA, ERIC BALFOUR-JESSE

As the series begins, a young girl and boy break into Sunnydale High School. The girl is seemingly reluctant, but soon reveals herself to be a vampire, as she attacks the young boy. The girl is named Darla, and she serves a powerful vampire known as "The Master". At about the same time, Buffy is having a nightmare in which she sees a book with the title "VAMPYRE" placed before her. She awakes and gets ready for her first day at Sunnydale High School. Buffy's mother, Joyce Summers drives Buffy to the High School, asking Buffy to think positive. At the school, Xander Harris is skateboarding when he gets his first look at Buffy. He proceeds to crash into a guard railing while watching Buffy.

Buffy has a meeting with Principal Flutie, who tells her she will have a clean slate, regardless of her past...... which includes burning down the gym of her previous School. Buffy defends this by saying "But that gym was full of vam....asbestos". Leaving th principal's office, Buffy bumps into Xander, causing her purse to fall and a wooden stake falls out of it, which Xander picks up. Buffy then goes to her first lesson where she meets Cordelia Chase, who shares her textbook with Buffy, then proceeds to grill Buffy on her fashion/coolness knowledge, before totally embarrasing Willow Rosenberg about her outfit. Visiting the library to pick up her textbooks, Buffy meets Mr. Giles, the school's librarian, who hands her a book entitled "Vampyre", just like in her dream! Needless to say, Buffy makes like a banana and splits!

Later that day, Buffy has lunch with Willow, Xander and his best friend Jesse, and Willow warns her that being seen with them could be detrimental to her life at Sunnydale High, but Bufy doesn't care: she's seen the shallowness that is Cordelia. Meanwhile, two students have found a dead body in a locker. Cordelia breaks up lunch to tell Buffy that gym has been cancelled due to "the extreme dead body in Aura's locker." Buffy rushes to the locker and ecamines the body (it is the boy killed by Darla in the opening scene) and determines he was attacked by a vampire. She heads to the llbrary to talk to the mysterious librarian (whom she has discovered was at one time curator of The British Museum), Rupert Giles.

In the library, Giles informs Buffy he is to be her Watcher. The Watcher's job is to observe the slayer, and offer advice and insight on dealing with supernatural threats, most notably vampires. Buffy informs Giles about the dead boy, and telling him she never wanted the responsibility of being a slayer. As they leave the library, Xander emerges from behind the book stacks, having heard their conversation. That night, Buffy heads to The Bronze, a teen-centric nightclub. On her way there, she is approached by a mysterious, handsome stranger. Though Buffy doesn't know it yet, this stranger will soon become the most important person in her life. He warns her that she is living on a Hellmouth, which is about to open, the "harvest" is coming, and leaves her a gift of a crucifix necklace. Once in the Bronze, Buffy meets up with Willow and learns that she has an unrequited love for Xander, and that she and Xander "used to date when we were younger, until Xander broke all my Barbie's."

Buffy advises Willow to "seize the moment, because tomorrow you might be dead." and runs off to talk to Giles who has made an appearance at the Bronze. After telling Giles about the mysterious stranger, Giles invites her to use her slayer training and find a vampire in the building. It is a dark, gloomy atmosphere, just the kind of place vampires like. Using her keen sense of fashion, Buffy soon points out a vampire in a retro 70's outfit. She is shocked to see Willow leave with him and heads out to rescue her new friend. She nearly stakes Cordelia by mistake, freaking Cordelia out and prompting Cordelia to "call everyone she knows." Meanwhile, Xander's friend Jesse is talking to another vampire...Darla. Buffy is approached by Xander and she convinces him to help her search for Willow.

While all this has been going on, under the city streets of Sunnydale, The Master is awakened by vampires to begin to prepare for The Harvest. He sends his servant Luke to find fresh blood. The Master himself, is unable to because he is trapped in a sort of prison. The Harvest, if successful, will free him from his prison. Willow, meanwhile is taken by her new "friend" to a crypt. He tells her it a shortcut to the ice cream parlor. In the crypt, they are joined by Darla and Jesse, who has been bitten by her. Buffy and Xander arrive and Buffy kills the vampire threatening Willow, and Xander, Willow and Jesse vamoose, while Luke appears and attacks Buffy. While Darla tracks Willow's group, Luke throws Buffy into a stone coffin and moves in for the kill...........To Be Continued

PHILOSOPHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

This first episode introduces many concepts that will become important to the series, chief among them was just how are vampires created? Vampire lore has held for many years that vampires suck the blood of their victims with the intent of creating more vampires. Tradition long held that if a vampire bites you three times, you would become a vampire. Joss Whedon adds a new dimension to that in BTVS. In Whedon's "Buffyverse", to become a vampire, all a vampire needs to do is taste the blood of a victim, and make that victim taste their blood before they die. Three nights later, they will arise as a vampire. In addition, once the victim is dead, their soul leaves their body, and a demon takes up residence in their body. The demon is the vampire.

RELIGIOUS CONSIDERATIONS

The main religious consideration in this episode deals with the idea of vampires being demons. Religiously speaking, this concept lines up with the bible very easily. The Bible relates an encounter Jesus had where he met a man possessed of many demons. The man who was possessed had resisted all attempts by the citizens to chain him up, and ran through the tombs yelling and screaming. The demon said "My name is Legion, for we are many." The demons knew Jesus was the son of God and that he would cast them out of the man and asked for him to cast them into a nearby herd of pigs, and when he did, the pigs went mad and all of them ran into a nearby lake and drowned. The Bible also talks about demons as being fallen angels. In Isaiah 14:12-20 is the most famous account of an angel falling from grace.

12What a comedown this, O Babylon!
Daystar! Son of Dawn! Flat on your face in the underworld mud,
you, famous for flattening nations!

13 -14You said to yourself,
"I'll climb to heaven. I'll set my throne
over the stars of God. I'll run the assembly of angels
that meets on sacred Mount Zaphon. I'll climb to the top of the clouds.
I'll take over as King of the Universe!"

15 -17But you didn't make it, did you?
Instead of climbing up, you came down- Down with the underground dead,
down to the abyss of the Pit. People will stare and muse:
"Can this be the one Who terrorized earth and its kingdoms,
turned earth to a moonscape, Wasted its cities,
shut up his prisoners to a living death?"

18 -20Other kings get a decent burial,
honored with eulogies and placed in a tomb. But you're dumped in a ditch unburied,
like a stray dog or cat, Covered with rotting bodies,
murdered and indigent corpses. Your dead body desecrated, mutilated-
no state funeral for you! You've left your land in ruins,
left a legacy of massacre. The progeny of your evil life
will never be named. Oblivion! (The Message)

This describes the fall of Lucifer (commonly known as Satan). Furthermore, Jesus adds to the subject in Luke 10:18. The occasion was the triumphant return of 70 disciples that Jesus had sent out. They returned ecstatic because even the demons obeyed them. Jesus replied:

"I know. I saw Satan fall, a bolt of lightning out of the sky." (Luke 10:18; The Message)

Taken together, these verses present a clear picture of a revolt in Heaven, lead by a jealous Lucifer who convinced many other angels to join him. What does all this have to do with Buffy? Well, these verses help establish the REALITY of demons, thus justifying them in the buffyverse.

MORAL CONSIDERATIONS

The main moral consideration for this episode is a bit of a pet peeve with me. It is the character of Cordelia Chase. Maybe it's because of my advanced years, (I am over 40 after all!) but in these early episodes, Cordelia is just.......UGHHHHHH! She is snobby, self absorbed, mean spirited, rude and obnoxious....and those are her positive qualities! Sadly, she stays like this for some time...and even gets worse before she gets better. It really isn't until mid-season 2 that we start to see a change in her. The good news is that eventually, Cordelia grows up. However we have to wait several years for that to happen.

Another moral consideration is the aspect of morality in vampires. This issue will be addressed in much more detail later in season 1 and much of season 2. Basically, as noted earlier, when a person becomes a vampire, their soul leaves their body and a demon takes up residence. When the soul leaves, so does any sense of morality. They become a creature of nature, not conscience. This will become very important later in the series.

FAMOUS QUOTES

Most every episode of Buffy has some great (often humorous) quotes. In this secrion you will find my favorites from episode. All quotes courtesy of www.tv.com

Angel: You're standing at the mouth of hell. And it's about to open.

Buffy: I'll be back in a minute.
Willow: Oh, that's okay, you don't have to come back.
Buffy: (smiles) I'll be back in a minute.

Buffy: Have you guys seen Willow? Did she come by here?
Cordelia: Why? Do you need to attack her with a stick? Jeez!

Giles: The vampire is not dead?
Buffy: No, but my social life is on the critical list.

Xander: Hey, I hope he's not a vampire, because then you might have to slay him.
Buffy: Was there a school bulletin? Was it in the newspaper? Is there anyone in this town who doesn't know I'm the Slayer?

Giles: Into each generation, a Slayer is born. One girl in all the world, a Chosen One. One born with the...
Giles and Buffy: ... the strength and skill to hunt the vampires...
Buffy: ... to stop the spread of their evil. Blah, blah. I've heard it, okay?

Girl #1: The new kid? She seems kind of weird to me. What kind of name is Buffy?
Girl #2: (walking by) Hey, Aphrodesia.

Angel: Is there a problem ma'am?
Buffy: Yeah, there's a problem. Why are you following me?
Angel: I know what you're thinking. But don't worry, I don't bite.

Mr. Flutie: You burned down the gym.
Buffy: I did, I really did, but... You're not seeing the big picture here, I mean, that gym was full of vampi... asbestos.

Buffy (to the vampire that took Willow): Okay, first of all, what's with the outfit? Live in the now, okay? You look like DeBarge

Cordelia (to Buffy after almost getting staked by her): God! What is your childhood trauma?

Giles: I believe this whole area is a center of mystical energy, that things gravitate towards it that you wouldn't find elsewhere.
Buffy: Like vampires.
Giles: Zombies, werewolves, incubi, succubi - everything you've ever dreamt was under your bed but told yourself couldn't be by the light of day. They're all real.
Buffy: What, you, like, sent away for the Time/Life series?
Giles: Uh, w-well, yes.
Buffy: Did you get the free phone?
Giles: Uh, the calendar.
Buffy: Cool.

Buffy: To make you a vampire they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It's like a whole big sucking thing. Mostly they're just gonna kill you.

Xander: (to Buffy) Can I have you? Uuhh, can I help you?

Principal Flutie: Welcome to Sunnydale! A clean slate, Buffy, that's what you get here. What's past is past. We're not interested in what it says on a piece of paper, even if it says... (reads) Whoa!
Buffy: Mr. Flutie...
Mr. Flutie: All the kids here are free to call me Bob.
Buffy: Bob--
Mr. Flutie: But they don't.

Xander: Can you help me out tonight, please, be my study buddy?
Willow: Well, what's in it for me?
Xander: A shiny nickel!
Willow: Okay. Do you have 'Theories in Trig'? You should check it out.
Xander: Check it out?
Willow: From the library? Where the books live.
Xander: Right, I'm there! See, I wanna change...

Luke: And like a plague of boils the race of man covered the Earth. But on the third day of the newest light will come the Harvest, when the blood of men will flow as wine - when the Master will walk among them once more. The earth will belong to the Old Ones... and Hell itself will come to town.

Giles: Something's coming, something, something... something is, is gonna happen here. Soon!
Buffy: Gee, can you vague that up for me?

Joyce: Are you, uh, going out tonight?
Buffy: Yeah, I'm going to a club.
Joyce: Oh. Will there be boys there?
Buffy: No, Mom. It's a nun club.

ALLUSIONS

Allusions are a plot device in a story that make reference to commonly known pop-culture items. Buffy is dull of these type of references. Once again, all allusions are courtesy of www.tv.com

Buffy: (holds an outfit in front of herself) Hello, would you like a copy of The Watchtower?

Buffy here refers to the prim and proper appearance of the dress and compares it to Jehovah's Witnesses. Witnesses are a Pseudo-Christian sect which relies heavily on door-to-door prosetylization. Church representatives dress very formally and often try to sell subscriptions to their church magazine which is called "The Watchtower."

Buffy: Live in the now, ok? You look like DeBarge.

A reference to the 80's pop music group DeBarge. Made up of five siblings and with aspirations to be a new The Jackson 5, they only wound up with one hit, 1985's Rhythm of the Night.

Giles: I'd much rather be home with a cup of Bovril and a good book.

The first of the British cultural references from Giles. Bovril is a food substance that can be spread on toast or made into a hot drink among other things. It's been described as "liquid cow" and is apparently extremely salty.

Buffy: What? You, like, sent away for the Time-Life series?

Time-Life publishes series of books on varied topics. This line most likely refers to the now out of print series "Mysteries of the Unknown" which focused on the occult and was still being heavily advertised at the time this episode first aired.

Let me know how i'm doing

Relapse Time!

I used to be so addicted to tv.com and I haven't been on in forever. So I decided it's time to relapse. So a lot has gone on since my last blog, so many opinions to be typed I don't no where to start. Don't worry it will be short like all the rest of my blogs. Lets see presidential election. I wasn't thrilled about the winner but I do like the things he is promising and hopefully his bailout plan will get passed through congress. And I lied to you guys on my last blog the live-action movies ARE keeping me interested. The cast was finally announced! Jesse McCartney???!!!!! wtf?! That was a shocker and I still have to warm-up to him and Jackson Rathboner. He looks crazy but hopefully he's working on that tan. Nicola Peltz seems pretty so hopefully she will do a good job, and mystery aang we will just have to wait and see. Since the show ended i've been trying to support it as much as possible. I've bought two box-sets seasons 1 & 3, and the Avatar: Into the Inferno video game for the ps2 only to find out weeks later I get a wii. So I might buy it agian just so I can take the stick and move around water like a real bender I also got an iPod Touch but I bought that on my own, it's so nice i've been glued to it. North Carolina got snowed recently and it stuck!!! School got cancelled for 2 days so we'll have to make them up. Things in the near future for me are a ski trip that i'm super excited about. Where going all the way to West Virginia, also 2nd semester of school starts tomorrow which i'm not to excited about. Well thanks for reading I hope to be on more, please leave a comment

Inauguration Day and That's Not Me on XBox Live
It's been a while, so I thought I'd jump up on the ol' soapbox for a sec.

First of all, I just want to publicly air my support for the man who will, in less than an hour, be our new President. I'm not going into this new administration with blinders on, and I can safely say that I already question one or two of his ideas, but I do have faith that President Obama will have a positive effect on the office of the President, on the country as a whole, and on our perception in the larger world. He is inheriting a great opportunity, and a massive burden. Here's hoping that he (and we) can rise to the occasion.

And on a much more trivial note, my lovely wife just bought me an amazingly extravagant early birthday present: an XBox 360. This big lump sum purchase leaves us rather cash-poor at the moment, so no games other than the two that came with the system ("Lego Indiana Jones" and "Kung-Fu Panda"). I did, however, sign up for XBox Live, which is very cool. The only problem is that I had to sign up as "grailwolf13" because someone already had the name "grailwolf". It's very odd. That's the first time I've ever had anyone else take my usual name, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. Anyway, if you see a "grailwolf" on XBox Live, it's not me, but a "grailwolf13" uttering my usual catchphrase will be the genuine article. I won't be able to be online very often (at least, not playing), but if you see me around go ahead and introduce yourself. And if you need someone to catch bullets, fall off platforms, or get eaten by zombies, I'm your guy.

Hurdy gur,
-Marc

Where I've Been

I was hit by a bus and suffered major head trauma. Sometimes I piss my pants without knowing it and I tend to shout out curse every five minutes or so. I have also forgotten how to speak English. I am now color blind as well.

My Top Ten favorite video game boss battles(with vids)

These are of video games I have played myself so you might not agree of have heard of any of these. But here it goes.

10. Chandelier-Ace Combat 6: This isn't really a boss battle more of taking down a superweapon. It isn't very hard to do unless you count all the damn SAM's, AA's,and enemy planes flying around everywhere trying to kill you and the unspecified time limit. The bit of annoyance on this level gives puts it in this spot. The music though is really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z98-Qh6jD9I

9. Ilya Pasternak- Ace Combat 6: Ok, as you can tell I like Ace Combat. Anyway what makes this guy challenging is that he flys an advance plane with stealth and that can shoot 12 missles at once. Not to mention the drones chasing you around and firing at you. Music is also good. He comes in at 9 b/c he is not as annoying as the Chandelier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrxsLJx-p2Q

8. Fusion Dragon- Golden Sun: A good final boss that can be challenging unless your four characters are leveled up enough to where two healing spells negate all his damage, which mine were. For me the lack of challenge place the Fusion Dragon at 8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yoNr2dQLK0

7.General RAAM-Gears of War- Again a badass annoying guy just because he has those damn bats that like to eat you in two seconds and you die. He is easy though just get rid of his batty sheild and pump him full of lead. He's dead you beat the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrYCtj8zMq0

6. Angelo Agnus- Devil May Cry 4- Rounding out the first five is Angelo Agnus. Challenging boss with pretty powerful attacks and can summon demons to annoy you while you are attacking him. He can also drain massive amounts of your health for himself. This is the Nero version of the fight not Dante b/c Nero can do devil buster moves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_YypAEHEIk

5. Megalith-Ace Combat 4- yes, yes another ace combat super weapon. but the mission is fun taking out the enemy's best squadron and the low level flying. the music is epic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4hWcwxNB2Q&feature=related

4.Darth Vader: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed- What can I say its fun to take out the huge bad guy from the series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n8WuAWkioM

3.Stonehenge: Ace Combat 4: Don't worry this is the last one. Fun level awesome music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqUNtMMQjoA

2.Angelo Credo-Devil May Cry 4- Love this boss fight Credo has some interesting moves and provides a challenge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3FgTnPXH-g

1. Ganon: Legend of Zelda:Ocorina of Time- one word EPIC. epic backdrop boss and music my number 1 favorite boss battle enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFHT4Y6-UMk&feature=related

Avatar audition info, new Aang screenshot-fanart by me

Note: This is also posted on my DeviantArt account.

Tell your friends- boys 12-15 can audition AT HOME to be Aang in the live-action Avatar movie! (If only my son were four years older!!)

I'm glad I clicked on the link over at Distant Horizon, because if I hadn't, I would still assume that you had to go to California or Florida or NY, etc. to audition. But you don't!

Go to http://www.thelastairbendercasting.com/index.php for details. They have a complete kit for your at-home Aang audition, including test script! They wanna see your tape (or disk?). They specify that they are looking for NEW talent and not necessarily someone with previous acting experience. Here's some info from the site:

"We are looking for a young man to play the lead role of Aang in this motion picture franchise. We are considering male actors 12-15 years old, Caucasian or any other ethnicity. He must be athletic and graceful with an ability in Martial Arts (not necessarily extensive experience, but at least an aptitude for it). Kids with experience in gymnastics, dance, or sports could also be good. He is a young adventurer and should seem like the type of young man who will grow up to be heroic."

I'm a little jealous because my son is only 8. He's tall but wouldn't sound old enough to pass for 12-15. Looks-wise, though, he looks like Aang, right down to his slim build, his round face, brown eyebrows and grey eyes. Maybe we'll do an audition tape just for the fun of it... don't think I'm going to let him shave his head just for that, though. ;)

Anyway, I have also posted a new fanart tribute to Avatar Aang (not a vid, sorry). Just click on the pic to see the full-size version on my dA page.

College Bureaucracy *sigh*
I have a nice little story to tell you. Why don't you get some popcorn and enjoy?

It all started with a student refund check I received last Friday. It seemed to me that I wasn't getting as much money back as I should have. So I called the financial aid office for my college on Monday. It turned out that a scholarship (one that was supposed to pay full tuition) and a grant had not gone through yet. I wasn't very worried about the grant, but I was definitely worried about the scholarship. I was told that the reason that it hadn't gone through yet was because I needed a housing waiver. Yet when I asked about the waiver a couple of months ago, they said that I didn't need one because I was going to a regional campus (i.e. not the main campus, but a local one affiliated with the main campus). I was then transferred to housing after I explained my situation. After explaining again, the secretary said that she'd call me back.

I never got that call.

I called again on Tuesday. I had to explain the situation again and I almost had to talk to financial aid again. Again I was told that I would get a call back. This time I did, from the director...at least I think it was the director...or some higher position XD. She believed that the whole thing might have been a computer error and told me that she would talk to the secretary in financial aid.

Again (Wow, I'm using this word a lot, aren't I?), no call.

Today, I refused to call them back because I felt it was a waste of time. And I was probably upping the phone bill due to long distance . I realize that there are many students they have to keep up with, but I just couldn't help feeling forgotten. Not to mention that it is annoying to been tossed back and forth between departments. It was pretty much "I don't know, go ask X department."
*sigh* No matter how much I hate it, I know I'll have to call them again eventually. Gee, I feel like a Teletubby. Again, again! XD

Will I ever get my questions answered? Tune in next week to Unsolved Mysteries! *eerie music from said show plays*

*UPDATE 8/14/08: I've finally gotten everything sorted out. Whew.
