Politics
It's a topic I avoid to the best of my ability, but one that is rearing its ugly head in my home state of Pennsylvania. Since our primary is so late in the campaign season we usually have no say in deciding the nominees, but this year is very different.
I had been a registered Independent for years but Pennsylvania's primary is a closed one. That means that Republicans vote for Republicans, Democrats vote for Democrats and Independents have no say--unless there is an Independent running. Anyway, I switched parties so that I could have a say. I'm now a registered Democrat. I have strong leanings to that party anyway, particularly on social issues. Now I have to decide whether to vote for Clinton or Obama.
I like certain things about them both and I dislike certain things about them both. A combined ticket would be nice and Clinton has said she would do that, but Obama has not and Obama seems to be more likely to nab the nomination in the end.
Electibility is a term thrown around a lot. Which of the two would me more likely to win versus McCain, or would either win.
Any thoughts?
Eccleston as The Doctor
I found a place where I can get to see the earlier seasons of Doctor Who. Whew! Now if I only had the time to see them all--right now! ![]()
So far I've seen the first two episodes of the Christopher Eccleston season and then I skipped ahead to the first two Captain Jack ones. Jack is rather different in Doctor Who. I've heard him described as more carefree and I guess that's a good way of describing him. He's not immortal yet so he doesn't have all those years bearing down on him like he has by the time he's reached Torchwood. It helps me to understand why his fans are so very loyal to him too. He's completely endearing and adorable in what I've seen so far. Enough about Jack, for now...

I like Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor--a lot. I'm sad to know that his stint is limited. Does anyone know why? Did he simply want to move on? I loved him in Heroes and am glad his character will be returning. That show needs all the help it can get at this point. Also I've heard rumors that he will be in the Lost finale this season and will be in Lost next season. I do hope that's true too.
A question for those 'in the know'. Can you embed YouTube clips here or is that forbidden? I'd like to do a blog at some point in the future that includes snips of shows at their best, but I would hate to be breaking some rule or other.
I'm heading away for the long weekend. Have a great weekend everyone and I'll 'see' you when I get back. ![]()
I think I'm getting the hang of things.
I figured out how to put up a header. Ah, it's a lovely one. *sigh* Well, it has no words, but that may come later...maybe. ![]()
Thanks to France and Rach I'm learning a lot about HTML and such as well. I wish the comments section gave us the cheats like the other sections do. Yep, I'm lazy ![]()
I'm watching season one of Torchwood again, since I admit I was looking for Ianto (It was almost like Where's Waldo at the beginning. "Oh! There he is!") and I wasn't giving the rest of the show as much attention as I should have. I've seen ep one and two and part of three. Cyberwoman will be after that.
Life is good.
Blog the first
My computer was down for an entire week! Tragedy! While I had no access I considered what I might say in a first blog entry. I decided to start with what is most consuming to me right now.
The BBC show Torchwood is my current obsession. I haven't felt such a strong connection to a show in some time. I did not come from a Dr. Who background (more lamentations on that in a moment) so I didn't know who any of the characters were. In fact, I didn't see the show at all until this current season. I watched because I read that James Marsters (Spike from the Buffyverse) would be in it and it piqued my curiosity.
As I was about halfway through season two I ordered season one and watched it. The more I saw of the show and it's amazing characters the deeper the obsession became. I like them all but Ianto leapt off the screen and into my heart, where he still resides to this day. Don't tell my hubby, although I must say that hubby doesn't have to worry on that score since I like seeing Ianto with Jack. I like seeing that way too much. Err...moving on...
I read or heard somewhere that you didn't need to know about Dr. Who to enjoy the show. I agree that's true, but at the same time you won't be told much about Jack's past in Torchwood and much was revealed by his travels with The Doctor so it would help to more fully understand his character. Lamentation Alert! I have not watched Dr. Who. I recently read on the Torchwood forums just how much was revealed about Captain Jack on the other show. I had assumed that no one knew his past since he's not forthcoming to his team on Torchwood. Wrong. I found only one episode of Dr. Who one that aired this week on TV in the US and I taped it. It was the first one with the character of Martha Jones. It was refreshing to be able to watch something with my 8-year-old in the room and he enjoyed it too. Now I'll need to get the first 3 seasons on DVD-a very expensive proposition. *deep sigh*
In the meantime there's a whole year to wait for new Torchwood episodes. But on the happy side I've really taken to the fan fictions about the show. If anyone has good fic recommendations I'd love to hear them. I also feel the need to write again myself, something I haven't wanted to do since Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Oh, the only ship I read is Jack/Ianto. I also don't mind ones that are not 'shippy'.
