Australia to get Vulcan Embassy!

Just watched an episode of 'Enterprise' and got a kick out of the fact that they said that there were Vulcan embassies in Canberra and Berlin. Cool looks like there will be a Vulcan embassy in Australia, something to look forward to

TV deja vu all over again!

It seems to happen to me alot, have you ever just channel surfed, started to watch an episode of a show you very rarely watch (say only a handful of times) and you realise you've seen this exact episode before yet you've hardly ever watched this show?!? Happened to me again yesterday, turned on the TV while having lunch and decided to watch 'Scrubs' of which I've only seen one full episode. Started watching and realised this looks very familiar, Turk's wife wants to get preggers and she's beeping him for 'booty duty', but I thought this might be common in this show, then Cheryl Hines from 'Curb My Enthusiasm' turns up as the ultra religious sister and I realise I've seen this exact episode before! It's deja vu all over again! What are the odds! The same thing happens with me and 'Frasier', hardly watch the show, but when I do it's usually the episode when they all go to the lodge in the country before Dafny's wedding, seen this about 3 times!!! Has this ever happened to you?

Earl outa sinc, Grr!!!

Hi guys, sorry I dropped out for a while but now dropping in occasionally. Anyway, really getting miffed with Channel 7 in Australia playing 'My Name is Earl' out of episode order. I really liked how Joy and Earl get along better after she tried to steal all his money, but now that 7 is showing earlier episodes, like 'Broke Joy's Fancy Figurine', we have the 'bad' Joy back who is very unattractive! By the way, I leave for Lebanon on Monday to visit my friends that have suffered so much, please pray I don't step on a stray cluster bomb!

Blessings,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 13.1

Part one of this weeks summary;

Sunday
Curb Your Enthusiasm (Kamikaze Bingo)
This episode reminded me of the ‘The Survivor’ episode, Larry can’t get to grips with the fact that one of his father’s friends in the retirement village was a Kamikaze pilot (ie. shouldn’t he have died in WWII?). Funny episode.

Star Trek: Enterprise (Awakening II)
Yahoo, Star Trek is back! This is a ‘Star Trek’ meets ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ episode as Archer finds an ancient Vulcan artefact, ‘to be continued’ yet again, just hope I don’t have to wait weeks for the next instalment like last time.

Monday
Boston Legal (Squid Pro Quo)
Once again missed most of the episode (damn!), looks like Julie Bowen has a nemesis.

Today Show (US)
I work night shift and have Mon-Wed off so usually catch a bit of late night TV. Caught the US Today show, their lead story? John Mark Karr’s business flight from Thailand to the US (to face charges of killing JonBonnet Ramsey), complete with interviews of those seated near him and footage of him going to the toilet, unbelievable!

Tuesday
Border Security
Another great find, cocaine in a sealed can, recognised the brand, wonder if they have someone inside the factory? Interesting incident with the Israeli, wonder why they showed it if they let him go anyway? I guarantee some of his answers would have raised more suspicion in his home country!

The Force
An Aussie version of ‘Cops’. Great debut, liked the drug bust, wonder what city they are filming in, Brisbane?

Trust everyone’s week is going well, hopefully I will buy my ticket to Lebanon this week as the airport slowly resumes operation and Emirates resumes services there,
Blessings,
Issa.

'Die in' in the Centre of Melbourne

I'm not a very political person but what has been happening in Lebanon recently has really upset me with one mate losing 15 of his friends and another 2 cousins and another who had their hand and leg blown off, so last Thursday I joined a march and 'die in' at a busy intersection in the centre of Melbourne to commemorate the 1000+ killed in Lebanon, here is a pic;

Current Weekly Viewing # 12.1

Part one of this weeks summary;

Sunday
Curb Your Enthusiasm (The Christ Nail)
Larry David (co-creator of ‘Seinfeld’) parodies ‘The Passion of the Christ’! Liked the bit about Larry having to buy a bra for his maid, especially when he was caught on ‘nanny cam’ playing with Susie’s bra, ‘not that there is anything wrong with it’ (Larry dropping a famous quote from ‘Seinfeld’)!

Monday
South Park (Butters’ Very Own Episode)
Repeat of one of the most boring episodes ever!

Boston Legal (Deep End of the Poole)
Just started watching this show, even though I’m a big Star Trek fan, it’s Julie Bowen that sucked me in!

The Weather Underground
Academy Award nominated doco about an underground group in the 60s & 70s that tried to overthrow the US government, even bombing the US Capital Building in Washington (never knew it was ever bombed!). Interesting to see where some of the key members ended up (they eventually handed themselves in), few went to prison because the evidence the FBI collected was often done illegally, lessons for today?

Tuesday
Border Security
Wow, good find of the heroine concealed in those incense sticks, great going! On the ‘Sunrise ‘ program, people are complaining that sometimes the customs staff are too lenient, I tend to agree. Looking forward the ‘The Force’ made by the same team, looks interesting.

Hope everyone’s week is going well, please pray that the ceasefire in the Middle East holds (I'm planning to go to Lebanon in 6 weeks!),
Blessings,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 11

Monday
South Park (Kenny Dies)
Missed this episode when it originally aired, always wondered what happened to the little guy, interestingly he just disappeared from his hospital bed, didn’t actually see him die like in almost every other episode.

Tuesday
Border Security
Glad they caught those pseudoephidrine smugglers, because of those guys I can’t get the original formulation of Sudafed to stop nasal congestion which I really needed this week with a bad cold (the substitute doesn’t work half as well!)!

Thursday
How I met Your Mother (Matchmaker)
How far would you go if your sole mate was with someone else? Liked the cockomouse infestation storyline;

Lily:It’s a whole new species, the cockomouse.
Marshall: And it’s the size of a potato!
Robin: So, what, now it’s a cockopotatomouse?
Marshall: Don’t make it sound rediculous, it’s a cockomouse.

My Name is Earl (The Bounty Hunter)
Rocky meets Karate Kid meets Blues Brothers (Carrie Fisher’s role). Another great episode, even though they once again showed the ending in the promo and the fact that it had with Juliet Lewis (ick). Did anyone pick Patrick Swayze’s brother Don?

Lost (Live Together Die Alone II)
A liitle disappointed in the finale, seemed to lack something, wonder where Michael and Walt end up and what happens to the captives, the 1st episodes of the next season better answer some questions pretty quickly! (Is Walt really gonna be on 'My Name is Earl'?)

Family Guy (Petergeist)
Interesting spoof on the movie ‘Poltergeist’ but don’t know if it deserved a whole episode.

Stargate SG-1 (Ex Deus Machina)
‘Ex Deus Machina’, wasn’t that the title of an episode of ‘Lost’? Fell asleep during this episode, though I had been working all night.

Blessings to all, have a great week,
Issa.

Last Weeks Viewing # 10

Sorry, getting a little behind;

Thursday
How I met Your Mother (Slutty Pumpkin)
Marshall was cool as a ‘gay’ Captain Jack Sparrow, sorry, what’s that Marshall;
Marshall: I'm not gay! I have sex with my parrot all the time!

My Name is Earl (The Professor)
Excellent episode, was like watching ‘Animal House’, one of my all time favourite movies, all over again, with some obvious homages like the frat house, the secret initiation and some of the music, loved the episode.

Lost (Three Minutes)
The statue was weird, Michael’s acting when they discovered him was a little off.

Stargate SG-1 (Beachhead)
Vala saves the day! Fav quote;
Vala: (looking at the Ori forcefield that’s about the envelop a whole planet) Why it’s huge (looks at Daniel)! Not everything I say is innuendo!

Sunday
Curb Your Enthusiasm (The Bowtie)
Cool, the return of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, one of my favourite comedies from the co-creator of ‘Seinfeld’, Larry David. This episode had it all, with Karry falling out with the lesbian community, getting in trouble for using a disabled toilet, a racist dog etc. Unfortunately missed the 1st episode of this new series.

Blessings to all, hope you are having a great week,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 9

Last weeks summary (OK, I know I’m a little late, had dialup probs, but that’s over now as I finally have Broadband, Yahoo!);

Tuesday
Border Security
Gee those drug couriers can lie! Liked when they asked the guy if he knew any Australians he said something like, ‘Yes, I know an Australian actor, but I don’t know him personally’! Wonder who he was thinking of?

Wednesday
Boston Public (Chapter # 77)
Funny to see the guys rushing to sign up to do reading classes with Guber’s girlfriend Violet, who also happens to be an ex-porn star!

Thursday
How I met Your Mother (Okay Awesome)
Funny episode, but it was too bad that they showed all the funny stuff in the promos during the week

My Name is Earl (Faked His Own Death)
Weekly favourite, I think this series is gonna give ‘Seinfeld’ a run for its money!

Fav quote;
Earl(about hiking): I love going up hill so much, I wish we could go uphill on the way down.

Lost (Three Minutes)
Ah, so that’s what happened, not long till the finale now? When does Lost season 3 start?

Stargate SG-1 (The Powers that Be)
Cool to see Vala acting as a false god, but she had some pretty tough competition from the Ori!

Blessings to all,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 8.2

Part 2 of this weeks summary (now with links to the shows!);

Thursday
How I met Your Mother (Return of the Shirt)
Getting better, liked the pranks during the broadcasts.

My Name is Earl (Joy’s Wedding)
From episode 9 to episode 8, Crabman is cool, lovin’ this show.

Lost (?)
Very revealing episode, once again the Aussie accents were appalling!

Stargate SG-1 (The Ties that Bind)
I like Vala, but don’t know if I would want to be bound to her for eternity. Great to see Wallace Shawn (Vizzini from the ‘Princess Bride’, recently in ‘The Family Guy’) as someone whose heart was broken by Vala.

Blessings to all, please pray for an end to the suffering in the Middle East, have a great weekend,
Issa.

Tragedy in Lebanon

Well, alot of my TV viewing has been taken up with trying to keep up to date with what is happening in Lebanon (my favourite holiday destination and where I have many friends), even watching the Arabic, Greek and French news broadcasts on our multicultural channel here in Australia. Just heard that 4 of my Uni friends have made it out of Beirut overland to Damascus and are now safe in Dubai. On a sadder note, I found out that 2 cousins of some dear friends of mine both in Australia and Lebanon were killed in the Israeli strike on an apartment building in Tyre about 4 days ago, another family member is in hospital recovering from severe wounds. Very upsetting news. The city of Tyre is amazing, with some of the best Roman ruins in the Middle East, including the largest hippodrome (where chariot races were held) ever built in the Roman Empire. It was also the city which held out the longest of any other against the armies of Alexander the Great, it is terrible to see the city and people under siege again

Current Weekly Viewing # 8.1

Part one of this weeks summary;

Tuesday
Border Security
Wow, they broke an international drug importing scam from South Africa to San Poalo to New Zealand to Australia, way to go guys!

Star Trek: Enterprise (The Forge (1))
Vulcan terrorists, hmm, they can’t lie but they can be terrorists, interesting social commentary!

Late Show with David Letterman (Show # 2590 with Kate Hudson)
Knew that the Tick Doc was a fake, especially when early on he said ticks were a disease! Kate Hudson is such a cutie!

Hope everyone’s week is going well,
Blessings,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 7.2

Part 2 of this weeks summary (now with links to the shows!);

Thursday
How I met Your Mother (Sweet Taste of Liberty)
Pretty boring episode, a taste of things to come?

My Name is Earl (Cost Dad the Election)
Jumped to episode 9 for some reason (hope we get the missed episodes), yeah this show is fun.

Lost (Two for the Road)
My VCR missed the crucial last scene, but interesting to see Ana Lucia in Sydney.

Stargate SG-1 (Origin III)
Wow, looks like we have a new enemy in the Universe, ‘long live the Ori’!

Also been glued to the TV watching the latest out of Lebanon (my favourite holiday destination). I have 4 friends visiting there at the moment, one of whoms father's village was bombed. I rang some friends of mine in Tyre, just happened to be an air raid on at the same time, the anti-aircraft battery seemed to be right next door. Please pray for my friends in Lebanon that they stay safe and can leave ASAP as the whole country is underseige.

Blessings to all, have a great weekend,
Issa.

New Pilots: 'My Name is Earl' & 'How I Met Your Mother'

We've had a few new pilots in Australia recently, here are some comments, even though I know we are behind those of you in the States;

My Name is Earl (Pilot)
Wow, heaps better than I expected, got a number of belly laughs out of this which is also a good sign. I’ve seen a number of interviews with Jason Lee and he mentioned that the show is more like a movie than a sit-com, and yeah, had to agree. This is one of the few pilots I’ve ever seen where the characters seemed to fit straight away and didn’t seem awkward. Think I’ll be a regular viewer.

How I met Your Mother (Pilot)
Not bad, liked seeing Jason Segel from ‘Freaks & Geeks’ again. I once told a girl I went out with too soon that I loved her with disasterous effects as well, why is that?

Current Weekly Viewing # 7.1

Part one of this weeks summary (now with links!);

Monday
The Great Outdoors (Jennifer Hawkins dives with the Great White Sharks!)
Jennifer Hawkins diving with Great White Sharks, wish I was there, both are very beautiful creatures, hopefully I will be the editor for her page when my latest submissions are approved (been waiting for a while!).

Tuesday
Border Security
Glad they caught the guy with the blank credit cards, reckon his punishment should have been harsher though. Good to see the honeymooners were allowed to continue with their plans and that our immigration officials are compassionate after all.

Star Trek: Enterprise (The Augments 3)
The created turned against their creator, a common storyline but with Brent Spiner (aka Data) that can be overlooked. Loved the reference to Kahn and the ‘Botany Bay’ which appeared in the 1st series then of course one of the best Star Trek films, ‘The Wrath of Kahn.’

Late Show with David Letterman (Show # 2585 with Michael Douglas)
Michael Douglas looked weird, interesting story about how his son helped him out with a jellyfish sting in Spain!

Hope everyone’s week is going well,
Blessings,
Issa.

New Christine

The New Adventures of Old Christine (Pilot)
It was funny to see Julia Loius-Dreyfus on ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ with Larry David (the co-creator of ‘Seinfeld’) discussing possible ideas for a return to TV written into the story line. Well, looks like it’s come true for her with this new show which premiered on Australian TV last Thursday night. It was weird to see Julia Loius-Dreyfus as a mother and and the show was pretty humourless but I’ll give it a go for a while, we’ll see how it goes. Has anyone else seen it?

Current Weekly Viewing # 6.2

Part 2 of last weeks summary (now with links to the shows!);

Stargate SG-1 (Avalon II)
Wow, Vala can be rude and crude but didn’t think she deserved to be burned like a common witch!

Family Guy (Petergeist)
Has Lois’ voice changed?

Late Show with David Letterman (Show # 2562 with Jennifer Aniston)
Another repeat, funny to see Jennifer Aniston dodge questions about her relationship with Vince Vaughn (they were both out here in Australia recently promoting their new movie).

Friday
Late Show with David Letterman (Show # 2565 with Lindsay Lohan)
Looks like Letterman might be back on track in Oz. Don’t really know who Lindsay Lohan is, but she’s pretty cute.

Blessings to all,
Issa.

Current Weekly Viewing # 6.1

Part one of this weeks summary;

Tuesday
Border Security
Advertised as Australia’s most popular show, a sign of the Post September 11 world? Love it when these guys find drugs concealed by people at the airport. In this episode 2 well dressed older ladies from Vietnam have heroin concealed in the lining of their suitcases. They tried to get by the drug sniffing dogs by adding a layer of coffee to put them off the scent, didn’t work. One of them also had heroin concealed internally, will not reveal where (yuck!). I’ve never had probs with customs when returning to Australia, I always go to the ‘to declare’ line and get out quicker than the rest (last trip, last off the plane, third out of the airport!). My last trip from Lebanon I really didn’t have anything to declare, but wanted to use my time tested technique to get home after the long 20 hr flight. Well, I did have one questionable item, during my stay I went to see Sayyed Hassan Nassrallah speak in Beirut (he is the leader of Hezbollah, #2 on the US list of terrorist organisations) during the last night of Ashoora (which marks the assassination of Imam Hussein, Mohamed’s grandson, by the dominant Muslim faction, the Sunnis 1400 years ago [they are still killing each other today, look at Iraq & Pakistan where rival mosques are regularly bombed]). Latter I purchased a picture of him holding up an AK-47 with the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem in the background, purely for novelty value. I decided to declare this to the custom guys as it may contravene some of our new anti-terror laws and wanted to be on the safe side. I showed the officer the poster, he quickly conferred with his superior then said ‘No problem’, they promptly X-rayed my bags and I was out of there quick smart! Obeying the law has its own benefits!

Late Show with David Letterman (Show # 2562 with Jennifer Aniston)
Wow, Letterman was actually on, the Wimbledon tennis finished early so I waited up and as scheduled it aired at 4 am! It was a repeat with Jennifer Aniston, but hadn’t seen that episode so that was cool.

Wednesday
Boston Public (Chapter # 71)
Guber and an ex-porn star, a sign that the show is on it’s last legs/jumped the shark?

Letterman
Bumped again, the Men’s Quarter Final Hewitt-Baghdatis match at Wimbledon was playing and went overtime (Hewitt lost ). I actually ran into Baghdatis at Dubai airport soon after The Australian Open, nice guy, I was on my way to Lebanon and asked him about his Lebanese ancestry (his grandfather is Lebanese and if he goes there they will put him straight into the army!).

Looking forward to the next overdue TV.com update, hopefully I will have my 1st Person Editorship (a clue to their identity, Letterman after meeting her stated ‘I feel that the Universe is well represented’, then tried on some of her clothes!).

Hope everyone’s week is going well,
Blessings,
Issa.
