A little rant.

First of all let me preface this blog by saying that I don't consider myself to be a perfect parent in any way. I'm just merely commenting on things that should be common sense where I see a lack of it.

I've noticed for quite some time the huge, incredible amount of selfishness in people, especially parents. All of you know that I am a teacher and interact with children and parents every day. It's unbelievable how many parents put their children in harms' way every day. Others neglect their children just because of selfishness or laziness. My sister-in-law, for example, has three children. All three are wearing clothes that are too small, look unkempt most of the time, while she enjoys her cigarrettes and soap operas. She lives two blocks from school, yet her five year old daughter has to wait on the bus in the morning. The bus that picks her up takes at least an hour on it's route before she is dropped off at school. All of this because she can't be bothered to walk her child two blocks to school.

She is far from the ony one who does this. I have car duty at work and see parents smoking with their kids riding in the back, even with all that we know about second-hand smoke. Babies riding without car seats, children riding in the back of the car with pornographic magazines in the floorboard. We had to call DSS because one child came to school with a hand print on her face. It goes on and on.

I don't know, maybe I'm a little sensitive to this stuff since I now have a five and a half month old child. What do you guys and gals think? Do you see this all the time or am I blowing this stuff out of proportion?
