On Between the Buried and Me's debut album they showcase their ability to shift from genre to genre while creating their mind-boggling, off-the-wall version of metalcore. The talent of these five men is unbelievable, which they display through their mastering of genres. This quintet executes flawless transitions from a melodic death metal guitar riff to a bludgeoning breakdown to emo-ish sounding vocals then right back to grind. You might be sitting there thinking to yourself, "There's no way in hell any band can pull that off." Well, just listen to this album and you will be convinced. This album is the strongest debut album I have heard from any band in any genre, it's incredible. The vocalist Tommy Rogers has an excellent range, anything from low death metal growls to high-pitched screams to clean sung passages. The four musicians that take the stage with him can all play the hell out of their instruments, which is proven in the thirty seconds of the album. BTBAM is also not afraid to speak their mind through their lyrics. An example of this is the track "Arsonist," where the band attacks a church in Kansas for preaching against homosexuality. So put quite simply if you like it heavy, you'll love Between the Buried and Me's self-titled debut, it's just that simple.
