Get one as soon as you can. You work at gamespot, so that gives you a major advantage. First dibs FTW!

Sounds like a plan but you should look into Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy.

Ivin5992 has good taste, but those are first party titles, and some of the best games are first party. HOWEVER, there is a huge lack of them. The main 3 are The legend of zelda; Twilight Princess, SUper Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime Corruption.
Zelda is an adventure game. Not sure if you like that kind of stuff.
Mario is a platformer, and the original one too.
Metroid is a FPS, and I know thats what you like.
There is also a plethora of 3rd party titles, but most were terribly developed just for a quick buck by the developers. Ubisoft has a huge range of tiutles for wii, and rayman was thier best. Others are just simulators, which all suck or lack any fun features.
Then, there is a Nintendo DS. Fun, portable, Internet Multiplayer, and a large selection of games. Lack of graphics is superbly overshadowed by the amazing gameplay...now I want to play nintendogs again...
