MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance - Coming to Toonami Jetstream (July 17, 2006)!

MAR is easily one of my favorite mangas, but I've never seen the anime before. In a few hours, I will be able to experience the MAR anime via YouTube. I'm getting very excited that it's coming to Toonami Jetstream, and I'd love to see the anime before it's dubbed. If you've never heard of this anime/manga, I suggest that you read below. I have posted a quick summary (thanks to Wikipedia).

MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance is a popular manga series created by Nobuyuki Anzai - the creator of Flame of Recca. A television anime of the series also exists and in Japan is broadcast on TXN stations. The Anime is severely toned down from the manga, containing almost no blood (the manga is very graphic at times), referring to alcohol as "Paopu juice", and adding flashbacks, backstories, and dialogue that never occurred in the manga during battles, apparently to make the fight last an entire episode.

The story follows Ginta Toramizu, a boy who always dreamed of a fantasy world, but now has actually been transported to one - MAR Heaven. Here, his physical weakness is replaced with physical strength. Ginta quickly meets the mysterious witch Dorothy, who introduces him to the powerful ÄRMs; artifacts that can possess the power to transform into weapons, summon monsters, or other abilities. Ginta obtains a special ARM call Babbo. Babbo is unique: not only is he a weapon ARM, but he is also alive and can therefore talk, drink, and move of his own accord. Babbo was once the weapon of an infamous Knight named Phantom, the leader of the Chess Pieces who has return to conquer MAR Heaven.

As of 2005 the manga is still running and has reached about Chapter 112. The series is published in Japan by Shogakukan, in North America in English by VIZ Media, and in Singapore in English and Simplified Chinese by Chuang Yi.

MAR has been announced to be a part of Cartoon Network's new online broadband service called Toonami Jetstream. It is slated to begin July 17, 2006.

If you're interested in the MAR anime as much as I am, you can watch the first episode (in Japanese; subtitled in English) by clicking on the following URL address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D431jwqUxo. Enjoy!

MAR owns your ass,

Happy Easter!

Hello all. I hope you all have a happy Easter. I know I won't be doing much today, but I do need to go to church quite soon. The next paragraph is just for clutter, it's about the background of Easter (from Wikipedia). If you want to read it, go ahead.

Easter is the most important religious holiday of the Christian liturgical year, observed between late March and late April (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity) to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe occurred after his death by crucifixion in AD 27-33 (see Good Friday). Easter can also refer to the season of the church year, lasting for fifty days, which follows this holiday and ends at Pentecost. Easter Day is also called the Sunday of the Resurrection or "Resurrection Day."

In most languages of Christian societies, other than English, German and some Slavic languages, the holiday's name is derived from Pesach, the Hebrew name of Passover, a Jewish holiday to which the Christian Easter is intimately linked. Easter depends on Passover not only for much of its symbolic meaning but also for its position in the calendar; the Last Supper shared by Jesus and his disciples before his crucifixion is generally thought of as a Passover seder, based on the chronology in the Synoptic Gospels. The Gospel of John has a different chronology which has Christ's death at the time of the slaughter of the Passover lambs, which may have been for theological reasons but which is regarded by some scholars as more historically likely given the surrounding events. This would put the Last Supper slightly before Passover, on 14 Nisan of the Hebrew calendar. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, "In fact, the Jewish feast was taken over into the Christian Easter celebration."

The English and German names, "Easter" and "Ostern", are not etymologically derived from Pesach and are instead related to ancient names for the month of April, Eostremonat and Ostaramanoth respectively. According to the 8th century Christian monk and historian Bede, this month was dedicated to the pagan fertility goddess Eostre. The Easter Bunny is often identified as a remnant of this fertility festival, although there is no evidence of any link.

Spring Break Break's Historical Background

In the U.S., spring break ranges from the end of February to mid-April, but most schools are out the first two weeks of March. In Canadian universities, it is known as Reading week and is in late February or early March.

In Japan, the spring break starts with the end of the academic year in March and ends on April 1 with the beginning of a new academic year.

Spring break is also celebrated by K-12 institutions, and is also known as March break. March break is invariably one or both of the middle two weeks of March. Some K-12 institutions coincide their spring break with Easter.

From the end of World War II until the 1980s, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was a notorious spring break destination in the United States. On March 19, 2006, the New York Times reported that Fort Lauderdale's reputation as a Spring break destination for college students started when the Colgate University men's swimming team came to practice there over break in 1935. Spring break's notorieties include increased drinking and sexuality, including public nudity. Residents of the area became so upset at the damage done by vacationers, that the local government passed laws restricting parties in 1985. By 1989, the number of college vacationers fell to 20,000, a far cry from the 350,000 who went to Fort Lauderdale four years prior. Spring break partygoers responded by moving to the much more liberal Daytona Beach area (over 200,000 students traveled there each spring at its peak), but after Daytona's local government undertook similar measures, the crowds of the mid-1990s and early 2000s had fallen to a point where "a few students still come, but officials don't even estimate their numbers." Fort Lauderdale suffered a recession as a result of the self-imposed boycott, but the local hotel industry survived by catering to the retirement population.

The most popular spring break spots today include Cancún, Mexico; Miami Beach (in particular the South Beach area); Jamaica; Acapulco, Mexico; South Padre Island, Texas; and Panama City Beach, Florida. About 1,000,000 students go on spring break to these locations (USA Today, 5 January 2003). Most students purchase specialized packaged tours. There are several logistics companies that charter airplanes and buy large blocks of hotel rooms to offer the deep discounts most college students need. Prices range from about $600 to $1400, which includes airfare, hotel, and 50 hours of open bar.

Alternative spring break trips are becoming more popular. For more charity oriented students, package trips are available to help people in poor countries, experience nature, and other activities outside the typical party scene.

A similar type of vacation is known as Senior week in the Northeast United States. Senior week follows high school graduation, where graduating seniors will go on a similar week-long vacation to a beach location.

Digimon Savers: "I Am Masaru!" Discussion Blog

Alright, I just downloaded the episode straight from Japan. Here's what I have to say. I'll give this episode 4 stars out of 5 (5 being the best). I had absolutely no clue what was going on because I cannot understand one ounce of Japanese. I could tell that there were some really funny sequences though. Another thing I should note out is, why is Agumon's head so big? I mean, it's absolutely huge. I also have some questions - why was Agumon and Masaru and Agumon fighting in the beginning? That made absolutely no sense to me.

Here's some more things I should note out to fans who have not seen the episode. Tohma didn't appear in this episode, only Yoshino and Lalamon. Respectively, this series doesn't remind me of any of the other Digimon seasons. In fact, it almost reminds me of Rockman EXE. Did anyone feel that? I definately did. Oh, yeah and "Nutshoot" (Lalamon's attack) looks exactly like "Bullet Seed" from Pokemon. Ain't that a coincidence? Not to mention, Kudamon looks a lot like Zigzagoon's evolution... Weird...

After seeing this episode and being so clueless of what was going on, I will not download another Digimon Savers episode. I think I can wait until Summer (I've been watching the Adventure season on Jetix during the weekends). The following paragraph is an episode summary for the episode.

Masaru, 14, meets a strange dinosaur-like creature. This strange creature, "Agumon", is a "Digital Monster" from another world, the "Digital World". Masaru and Agumon agree to communicate by fighting. However, Agumon had escaped from and was being chased by an organization which investigates digital phenomena, called "DATS". DATS attempts to recover Agumon from Masaru.

Flatulent Japanese Monster Invades US!

Nickelodeon is developing its first-ever original Japanese cartoon series, one of which is based on NHK's decade-old mascot, a flatulent cave-dwelling creature who lives with a tea-loving rabbit watching TV.

Domo-kun (below, 26x2') takes its name from the national public broadcaster's character icon, which Japanese children have grown up with for the past 10 years and is described as a "cultural phenomenon."

The online encyclopaedia Wikipedia describes him rather differently: "A strange monster-like creature born from an egg. He lives in an underground cave with a wise old rabbit, who loves to watch TV and drink astringent tea. Domo is known to pass gas repeatedly when nervous or in a bad mood," it says.

All of which should go down well with the kids the new series will be aimed at. Nickelodeon is working with NHK affiliate, Domo Production Committee, to co-develop and produce the series.

The deal also includes an advance acquisition of the series by the Nicktoons Network in the US, marking the first time a Japanese-produced series will air on a Nickelodeon Network in the US. A transmission date hasn't yet been announced.

The Viacom-owned kids broadcaster is also developing a new animated series called Akihabara@Deep, based on a Japanese graphic novel of the same name.

Nickelodeon is working with local 3D animation house Polygon Pictures. The property is described as an edgy, colourful and fast-paced cyber-detective comedy/action/drama based in Tokyo's electronics district.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Saint Patrick's Day (March 17) is a Catholic feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (386-493), the patron saint of Ireland. It is a national holiday in the Republic of Ireland (but not Northern Ireland); the overseas territory of Montserrat; and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people and increasingly by many of non-Irish descent. Like Christmas and Halloween, it is increasingly celebrated in a non-religious manner. Celebrations are generally themed around all things green and Irish; both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green, eating Irish food and imbibing Irish drink, and/or attending parades. The largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the world is held in New York City. Parades also take place in Dublin and in other Irish towns and villages. Other large parades include those in Savannah, Georgia, Cleveland, Manchester, Montreal, Boston and Chicago. Large parades also take place in other places throughout Europe and the Americas, as well as Australia and Asia.

As well as being a celebration of Irish culture, Saint Patrick's Day is a Christian festival celebrated in the Catholic Church, the Church of Ireland (among other churches in the Anglican Communion) and some other denominations. The day always falls in the season of Lent and sometimes during Holy Week. In church calendars (though rarely in secular ones) Saint Patrick's Day is moved to the following Monday when it falls on a Sunday. If it falls in Holy Week, it is moved to the second Monday after Easter. It is traditional for those observing a lenten fast to break it for the duration of Saint Patrick's Day.

In many parts of the U.S., Britain, and Australia, expatriate Irish, those of Irish descent, and ever-growing crowds of people with no Irish connections but who may proclaim themselves "Irish for a day" also celebrate St. Patrick's Day, usually by drinking alcoholic beverages (lager dyed green, Irish beer such as Murphys, Smithwicks, Harp or Guinness, or Irish whiskey, Irish Cider, Irish Coffee or Baileys Irish Cream) and by wearing at least one article of green-colored clothing.

Happy Pi Day and Happy Birthday Albert Einstein!

March 14, written as 3-14 in the United States date format, represents the common three-digit approximation for the number π: 3.14. It is often celebrated at 1:59 p.m. in recognition of the six-digit approximation: 3.14159. Some, using a 24-hour clock, celebrate it at 1:59 a.m. or 3:09 p.m. (15:09) instead.

Pi Day is celebrated in a variety of ways. Parties or other observances may be held by mathematics departments in educational institutions. Math or science clubs might gather to consider the role that the number π has played in their lives and to imagine the world without π. During such an event, pi celebrants may devise alternative values for π, eat pie, play piñata, drink Piña Colada, eat pineapple, listen to the song "Pi" by Kate Bush, or watch Pi. The shape of the pie is sometimes square, due to the pronunciation of the equation for the surface area bounded by a circle = πr2, i.e. "pie are squared."

Enthusiasts also note that the day happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday, in addition to other birthdays on this day. It's also curious to note that the renowned science and technology university Massachusetts Institute of Technology, known for its sometimes unconventional, quirky take on math, often mails out its acceptance letters to be delivered to prospective students on Pi Day.

The "ultimate" pi moment occurred on March 14, 1592, at 6:53 AM and 58 seconds. When written in American-style date format, this is 3/14/1592 6:53.58, which corresponds to the value of pi to twelve digits: 3.14159265358. However, considering this was well before any kind of standardized world time had been established, and the general public had no concept of π, the occurrence likely went unnoticed.

Have some pie on Pi Day,

My Troubles and Details on MissingNO. and 'M (Pokemon Games)

If you're a true Pokémon fan, you know who MissingNO. is. I have a long, interesting story on MissingNO. Also, I have added some information of how MissingNO. developed into the Pokémon games.

I remember a long time ago, I caught a MissingNO. and I had absolutely no clue what it was. Before I knew it, my Hall of Fame got all screwed up and I was really confused. Then, one day I rented Pokémon Stadium from my local Blockbuster. I plugged my game into the system and the screen said, "Game data destroyed". I was devastated. I quickly ripped out my Pokémon Blue game and put it into my GameBoy Color. The game said the same thing, "Game data destroyed". Just like that, all my hard work through the game vanished. It had to be one of the worst days of my childhood.

When I got older and I started using the internet, I found out what MissingNO. was. Here's a bunch of research I gathered.

The History of MissingNO. and 'M

'M and MissingNO. The originals. Before ?????, ?, ??????????, X-x, or bad eggs, this mischevious Glitch Pokémon was a center of attention back in the days of Red and Blue versions, and continues to be one today. It was five, maybe six years since this Pokémon was found, and to this day, mystery still surrounds it. Dedicated Pokémon fans like myself have made it their goal to find out why this Pokémon exists, what it is, and what it can do. Its legacy has surpassed even that of Mew, which was once considered to be the most mysterious Pokémon. Who knows when the final answer to this mystery will be uncovered? Maybe during Year 2005. Maybe during Year 2015. Or maybe not at all.

Back then, all attention was on the elusive Mew, Pokémon 151. And it was on MissingNO. Later, during the Gold and Silver days, it was on Celebi. And it was still on MissingNO. Now, it is on Deoxys. And it is still on MissingNO. And probably during Generation Next, when the next 100 Pokémon will be uncovered, it will still be on MissingNO.

Never mind all that mystery stuff. Just what is MissingNO?

No one knows completely. Most Pokémon fans agree that it is a glitch and not a "real" part of the game. But if it is not a real part of the game, then why is it there? No one knows for sure, so we did what people do when they don't know for sure: We made theories:

1. MissingNO. was a template used to program all the Pokémon behavior and test it before developing the "real" Pokémon.

2. MissingNO. was a remnant of an attempt to remove Mew from the game.

3. MissingNO. was a cheat the developers used to progress through the game quicker.

These are three main theories. I can already disprove theory 2. For one, Mew was not removed. It was not even intended to appear as a wild Pokémon in the game anyway. The so-called "Mew glitch" which allows you to find a Mew demonstrates this.

As for theory three, it seems ridiculous that the developers would insert a cheat that would scramble your graphics and your data.

But we cannot decide firmly on theory one yet. We need more research into the topic.

So you don't know what it is. What does it do?

It is Bird/Normal type. Yes, you read that right. It is Bird type. Probably a typo or a remnant from an earlier beta version of the game (this supports theory one.) It has three attacks: Sky Attack, Water Gun, and Water Gun. That wasn't a typo. It has two Water Guns. That in itself is a paradox since Pokémon are forbidden by nature to have more than one copy of an attack. But then again, glitches defy nature almost all the time. It has a supernormal attack stat but every other stat is subpar. This makes it not good for battling. If you raise it a level, it might evolve into a Kangaskhan. (Hey, maybe this was a baby Kangaskhan that was taken out of the game!) You can teach MissingNO. Fly, so when it evolves into Kangaskhan it can be a flying Kangaskhan. When you encounter it the sixth item in your bag gets duplicated to 128. Since the item numbers can naturally go no higher than 99, 128 is shown as glitchy blocks. Seeing MissingNO. or 'M will scramble your Hall of Fame data, with no known way to get it back.

Trainers' opinions on whether you should catch MissingNO. or 'M are varied. Some say that MissingNO. is safe to get, while 'M is dangerous. Others say that 'M is the safe one, and that MissingNO. is the dangerous one. Some say you should stay away from them both. While I have never experienced a game-wrecking experience with a MissingNO. or 'M, some say they have. Maybe the Glitch Pokémon have different effects on different games...

Was this article helpful and interesting? Rate it on a scale from 1 to 10.

MissingNO. is a SOB,

"The Pink Panther" Movie Review

Inspector Jacques Clouseau, that ineffable French purveyor of defective detection created by star Peter Sellers and moviemaker Blake Edwards in their classic "Pink Panther" series, may be in movie theaters this weekend, at the center of a spiffy-looking, expensively made "The Pink Panther," starring and co-written by Steve Martin. But the accident-prone sleuth--who, in Peter Sellers' hands, walked into glass doors, stumbled over whirling globes and let killers and thieves frolic under his nose while spicing his oddly French-accented speech with mangled concoctions like "ruum" (for "room")--is back, I'm afraid, in name only.

We wouldn't expect Martin, sometime comic genius that he is, to match Sellers' Clouseau. But Sellers is irreplaceable, and though the new "Panther" is no catastrophe, it's certainly a big disappointment. Director Shawn Levy ("Cheaper by the Dozen") and Martin reprise the impudent Henry Mancini theme music, devise new super-cool Pink Panther cartoon credits. But the question, "Is there ruum for another Clouseau?" can't be answered in the affirmative.

The new "Pink Panther" isn't a remake, but a kind of prequel about the start of Clouseau's Parisian career, set in our time, with Martin as Clouseau, Kevin Kline replacing Herbert Lom as Clouseau's apoplectic superior Chief Inspector Dreyfus and Jean Reno, in a way, standing in for Burt Kwouk's Kato as Clouseau's new sidekick: deadpan, resourceful gendarme Gilbert Ponton. Their case includes the theft of a "Pink Panther" diamond ring and the televised murder of its owner, Team France soccer coach Yves Gluant (Jason Statham), slain by a poison dart at a match between France and China.

The suspects include Gluant's lover, pop goddess Xania (Beyonce Knowles), team trainer Yuri (Henry Czerny), Chinese dignitaries and French soccer team celebs; the locales range from Paris to New York. But the mystery, as always, is relatively unimportant. Clouseau is assigned to the investigation by the devious Dreyfus--not yet driven to twitching, Lom-like distraction by his incompetent underling--because the junior inspector is already a famous idiot and Dreyfus wants someone sure to foul up the case so he can rescue things and win a Medal of Honor.

That plot somewhat resembles Edwards' gag-happy originals, but the characters deviate. The original Clouseau, as Sellers and Edwards shaped him, was a French fool laboring under the delusion that he was a mix of Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Inspector Maigret and Casanova . But Sellers' Clouseau had a contradictory appeal in those great sad eyes, a hint of self-awareness beneath his seemingly oblivious exterior.

Martin's Clouseau, by contrast, shares Sellers' fantasies but often seems a little too self-confident. He has been made into a sweeter and even smarter guy, decked out in ill-fitting clothes--tight top, loose pants and a ridiculous Pepe Le Pew beret-- that emphasize his visual absurdity. Funny as Martin can be, though, he lacks some of Sellers' desperate edge. Instead, that zany smile of Martin's--the key mannerism of one of his own great characters, the Wild and Crazy Guy--almost suggests complacency.

This "Pink Panther" really doesn't have to achieve the heights of the original; it just has to be funny on its own terms. But it pales there too. Kline, a master of comic hypocrisy, deserves more screen time, Emily Mortimer is wasted as Clouseau's adoring assistant Nicole and Knowles is over indulged as Xania. As for Levy, he lacks Edwards' loony, impeccable style and slapstick panache.

We responded to Sellers' Clouseau because his foolishness and fakery echoed something deeply human as well as hilarious. We respond to Martin mostly because he's a funny guy in a silly mustache, cutting up and trying to make us laugh. But jokes aren't everything. Maybe Martin should have forgotten Clouseau, called Dan Aykroyd and made a movie about the Wild and Crazy Guys instead.

TNA iMPACT! Interview With New NWA Heavyweight Champion Christian Cage

It took him about 45 minutes to get back to his dressing room after winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Sunday night at Against All Odds in Orlando, Fla. Christian Cage was swamped en route with congratulatory well-wishes and countless people who wanted to take a photo with THE NEW CHAMP. From fans and VIPs to TNA Stars. From Matt Bentley to Dory Funk Jr., to David Eckstein, the shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals who watched the pay-per-view from the front row.

Christian Cage never again will lead a normal life. He is now truly among the elite in pro wrestling history. Christian Cage spoke with Ross Forman Sunday night in his first post-match interview.

Ross Forman: "Your thoughts?"

Christian Cage: "I'm a little overwhelmed. It's a great feeling, incredible. As I said before the match, everything I worked so hard for, for 12 years ... well, my whole career kind of flashed before my eyes right in the ring at the end of the show."

Ross Forman: "Your thoughts when you were handed the belt, thus standing at the top of your profession?"

Christian Cage: "It's hard to describe. There were times when I thought I wouldn't get the chance or opportunity to wrestle in a main event, or even have the chance to wrestle for a World Title. So, to walk away with the title in my first NWA Heavyweight Championship match, it's a feeling that I can't really describe. I'll have to sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning. But right now, I'm pretty numb."

Ross Forman: "What about the post-match, in-ring celebration with hundreds of fans congratulating you?"

Christian Cage: "It was crazy. I never thought something like that would happen. It was cool. I was glad the fans were able to get in the ring and get personal, up-close to the scene." (Writer's Note: Christian Cage was given a standing-ovation Sunday night at a local restaurant as well upon arrival after the event.)

Ross Forman: "What do you say now to your critics, those who might have questioned your size, your ability, your heart, or whatever?"

Christian Cage: "I don't really have anything to say to my critics because my critics made me better; they made me a better performer. I don't have anything bad to say about them; they have their opinion, yet I know the real story."

Ross Forman: "Was this the highlight of your career?"

Christian Cage: "Oh yeah, without a doubt, without a question."

Ross Forman: "What kind of Champion will Christian Cage be?"

Christian Cage: "The most entertaining and the most charismatic, ever . I'm really looking forward to TNA going primetime on April 13 and being the champ when we get there."

Ross Forman: "You were congratulated post-match by Dory Funk, Jr., himself a former NWA Heavyweight Champion. You even were wearing his legendary cowboy hat. Your thought on that experience?"

Christian Cage: "That was cool. I met Dory before I really broke onto the national stage and he helped me during a time in my career when I was very young, so, for him to be here and witness me winning the title that he once carried is something special. He came up to me today and told me that he wanted me to win and that he was very proud of me. He also told me that he once won the title on Feb. 11th in Tampa, so he wanted me to win the title on Feb. 12th in Orlando. He was pretty fired up about that."

Hoping for a Snow Day and Other News

Well, there's a pretty bad snow storm going around in Boston, Massachusetts right now (along with other New England states). I'm really hoping for a snow day... My cousin was supposed to help me tape a science project with me and my friend, Ral. Now no one can come over my house to work on my project because of the darn snow. The project is due on Tuesday and if we don't get it done, I'm dead. For those who don't know what a "snow day" is (if you don't you must have a mental disorder), read below.

"A snow day is a day on which school classes are cancelled or delayed due to snow or heavy ice. Sometimes the phrase 'snow day' is used for the cancellation of work in businesses as well. Similar measures may occur in response to heavy rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other forms of inclement weather. The criteria for enacting a snow day is primarily the result of the inability of vehicular transportation, as in the inability of school buses to make their routes. Usually secondary concerns are health issues that may arise by students being exposed to the cold weather.

Snow days, in some communities are very rare (often one or less occurring every year), usually due to infrequency of snow (the community need not be prepared) or extreme frequency of snow (the community is fully prepared and even large amounts of snow rarely present a serious problem). However, some communities build three to five snow days into their school year to stop children taking vacation early in the event of a heavy winter and the need to make up extra days of school.

Snow days, especially in areas like southern New England where snow days are relatively common, have a certain stigma attached to them. For students, this includes a feeling of relief (in cases where the student had been dreading a day of regular school). In addition to this, students usually are swept by a wave of euphoria, as a snow day in most cultures has become synonymous for a day of complete freedom where the student body can participate in common winter activities such as sledding and snowball fights. This euphoria often leads to frantic checking of the weather forecast the day before. For the administration, however, snow days have a negative connotation, as the entire day will usually have to be reworked into the schedule, and the necessary credit hours of the students for that day have not been fulfilled. As a result, some school districts remain in session when conditions clearly warrant a closure or delay.

Generally speaking, the closer to the equator the school district is, the more likely a relatively light snowfall (or merely the threat of a snowfall) will result in a snow day. For instance, schools in areas with heavy snowfall, such as upstate New York or Northern New England, rarely have snow days even after heavy snow fall, while Mid-Atlantic schools often close for snowfalls as little as a few inches. The explanation for this is that areas that receive heavy snowfall are more equipped to clear the snow and drive through the snow, while towns that receive less snow invest less in snow removal equipment and are populated by residents less experienced driving on snow or ice. When people move from northern cities to southern cities, they are often surprised at what justifies a snow day."

In other news, I have been really thinking about taking Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends off my favorite shows list. It's pretty sad, actually... I have had the show on my list for almost two years. Friday's episode, "One False Movie" was hysterical. It's gonna' be real sad to see it go off my favorite shows list. If I decide to take it off, I will be replacing it with one of my childhood favorites, Donkey Kong Country. Since I'm so undecided on which show should be in my favorites, please post in my "Comments", on which show you think I should have in my "Top 10" favorite animated shows.

Foster's or Donkey Kong?,

Saint Agatha's Feast Day

Saint Agatha (died 251) is a Christian saint. Her memorial day is February 5th. Agatha was born at either Catania or Palermo and was martyred in approximately 250 at Catania. She is the patron saint of Catania.

According to variations of her legend, having rejected the amorous advances of a Roman prefect, she was persecuted by him for her Christian faith. Among the tortures she underwent was the cutting off of her breasts. She is therefore often depicted iconographically carrying her excised breasts on a platter.

The shape of her amputated breasts gave rise to her attribute as patron saint of bell-founders. More recently she is venerated as patron saint of breast cancer patients.

Her scorned admirer eventually sentenced her to death by being burnt at the stake. However, she was saved from this fate by a mysterious earthquake. She later died in prison.

She is considered as patron saint of Malta since her intercession is reported to have saved Malta from Turkish invasion in 1551.

"Spirited Away" Premieres on Cartoon Network This Friday at 7:00 PM!

My favorite movie, Spirited Away is going on television this Friday at 7:00 PM. I'll definately be watching it and I hope all my friends will too. Did I mention I'm the Co-Editor for Spirited Away on Movie Tome? Anyways, Spirited Away was the first anime movie to win a big award. In fact, on my Comcast movie information, they rate Spirited Away four stars. I have never seen a movie rated four stars before on Comcast (besides one of the greatest movies of all-time, The Wizard of Oz). Please be sure to check out Spirited Away, it's a fabulous movie. Below is a description of this fabulous anime film.

The highest grossing film in Japanese box-office history (more than $234 million), Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away (Sen To Chihiro Kamikakushi) is a dazzling film that reasserts the power of drawn animation to create fantasy worlds. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and Lewis Carroll's Alice, Chihiro (voice by Daveigh Chase--Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch) plunges into an alternate reality. On the way to their new home, the petulant adolescent and her parents find what they think is a deserted amusement park. Her parents stuff themselves until they turn into pigs, and Chihiro discovers they're trapped in a resort for traditional Japanese gods and spirits. An oddly familiar boy named Haku (Jason Marsden) instructs Chihiro to request a job from Yubaba (Suzanne Pleshette), the greedy witch who rules the spa. As she works, Chihiro's untapped qualities keep her from being corrupted by the greed that pervades Yubaba's mini-empire. In a series of fantastic adventures, she purges a river god suffering from human pollution, rescues the mysterious No-Face, and befriends Yubaba's kindly twin, Zeniba (Pleshette again). The resolve, bravery, and love Chihiro discovers within herself enable her to aid Haku and save her parents. The result is a moving and magical journey, told with consummate skill by one of the masters of contemporary animation. This movie is rated PG for some "scary moments".

Note: Make sure you check out one of my new favorite shows, Zixx: Level One. It's on Cartoon Network tonight, at it's special airing at 7:30 PM.

Remember your name, Chihiro,

WWE SmackDown! Spoliers - Friday, January 27, 2006 from Greenville, South Ca...!

I really want to see WWE SmackDown! this friday, just because it's the last show before the WWE Royal Rumble. I can't wait, be prepared for an action-packed Friday night.

Rey Mysterio vs. Mark Henry (with Daivari). Rey Mysterio started the show off with an in-ring promo in which he said he knew he was the underdog in this rematch and in the upcoming Royal Rumble. While he admitted to being small in nature, he said he has a big heart. He dedicated his performance and win in the Royal Rumble to Eddie Guerrero. Rey Mysterio wore Eddie’s shirt to the ring and there were a lot of "Eddie" chants during the promo. As far as the match, it was very fast paced with Rey Mysterio dominating, using a hit-and-run offense which kept Henry off guard. Mark Henry eventually caught Rey Mysterio and hit the powerslam for the win. Daivari did guest commentary for the match.

Randy Orton, Booker T, and Sharmell were shown backstage in which Booker T offered to pay Randy Orton back his favor by interfering in his upcoming match with Chris Benoit. Randy Orton declined the offer, saying he could beat Chris Benoit on his own, but said he might cash in the favor at the Royal Rumble, especially if Booker T and Randy Orton are the last two in the ring. Randy Orton walked off and Booker T and Sharmell did not look pleased with his idea.

They played some footage from last weekend’s SmackDown! tour of Mexico was shown, specifically of Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and El Hijo del Santo in the ring paying tribute to Eddie Guerrero.

Super Crazy and Psicosis vs. James and Chad Dick vs. Nunzio and Vito (Royal Rumble Qualifying Match). Super Crazy pinned Nunzio after a wheelbarrow-facebuster double team. This set Super Crazy and Psicosis into the Royal Rumble.

The promo of Rob Van Dam's Royal Rumble return was shown.

A Royal Rumble Flashback recapped Chris Benoit’s victory in 2004, a perfect lead-in to...

Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton (No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere). This was a great match, as is usual when these two are in the ring together. The match started scientifically at first but eventually went to the floor with Randy Orton using a trash can lid and dropping Chris Benoit across the commentary table. The finish was fantastic. Chris Benoit went for the diving headbutt but Randy Orton blocked by raising the trash can lid. Rnady Orton got to his feet first and set Chris Benoit up for the RKO but Chris Benoit shoved him off into the ropes, quickly picked up the trash can lid, smashed it over Randy Orton’s head as he ran back off the ropes, and applied the Crossface. After several seconds of frantically stretching for the ropes, Randy Orton tapped out.

Some more Royal Rumble promos were shown throughout the taping, including Road Warrior Animal, Matt Hardy, and Lashley.

Finlay vs. Funaki. Finlay won the match with a Musclebuster but the referee reversed the decision when Finley assaulted his opponent after the match. Finlay then grabbed the microphone, and said he came to fight and cut a promo on the fans before hitting a second Musclebuster and leaving ringside.

JBL and Jillian Hall were shown backstage, they were both talking about The Boogeyman. JBL assured Jillian Hall she had nothing to worry about.

A trailer for Kane’s “See No Evil” was shown.

JBL (with Jillian Hall) vs. Scotty 2 Hotty. The match went to a no contest when The Boogeyman’s music hit and JBL had a bucket full of worms dropped on him. We’re talking “Carrie”... but with worms. They filled the ring. As JBL was becoming freaked out by that, The Boogeyman came out from under the ring and scared JBL to the point where he fell backwards onto the worms, freaking him out even more. He and Jillian Hall eventually ran backstage as The Boogeyman had dinner.

A music video was shown to promote WWE 24/7 to the tune of Van Halen’s “Right Now”. It was a very well done piece capturing key moments in WWE, WCW, NWA, and ECW history. Some celebrities such as Mike Tyson, Arnold, and Muhammad Ali were featured as well.

Mark Henry and Daivari were interviewed backstage about Mark Henry’s title match with Kurt Angle at the Royal Rumble.

Melina confronted Theodore Long backstage, showing him her taped up ankle, the result of Kurt Angle’s assault the previous week.

World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle vs. WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury (with Melina) (Handicap match). Kurt Angle forced Joey Mercury to tap to the ankle lock after belly-to-belly suplexing Johnny Nitro over the top to the floor. After the match, Mark Henry and Daivari came out, with Kurt Angle taking the fight to Mark Henry and landing the Angle Slam. The champion applied the Ankle Lock but, to his shock, Mark Henry powered out of it and kicked Kurt Angle to the floor. Mark Henry, Daivari, and MNM stood in the ring and taunted Kurt Angle, with Mark Henry signaling that the belt would soon be his, to close the television broadcast.

I'll show you an Ankle Lock,

Tons of Homework and Projects

Today, I have a ton of homework to do and I have three projects. It's all due tommorow, I'm an idiot because I waited last minute to do all of it. But I don't blame myself because my sister's birthday was last night.

Homework is work assigned by a teacher, school or other educational institution, to be completed by the student at home or while not attending class. The term is generally used to refer to primary or secondary school assignments as opposed to college-level coursework.

Many students find homework to be an undue burden, while schools and teachers generally insist that it is necessary to practice new skills and to better learn material.

Rather than doing their own work, some students plagiarize or shirk their requirements (for example, by using Cliffs Notes instead of reading a book). If they are caught, punishments can range from a warning to expulsion from the institution, depending upon the school's policies and the severity of the infraction. See school discipline.

In recent years, there has been some backlash about the amount of homework assigned. Some statistics show that homework has nearly doubled for children since their grandparents' time. In some cases, several hours of work may be assigned every day, leading to incomplete or mediocre work and overstressed students. The worst cases may actually cause children to develop mental problems. In response to such concerns, some schools have instituted policies lessening the homework load and requiring teachers to coordinate when assigning large, long-term projects.

Like most educational-related work, homework can become a bigger burden as circumstances change. One of the worst and most dramatic increases of student workload was during the Cold War. For a period of time, the United States government was pushing large amounts of science and mathematics on children in hopes of having greater technological skills at America's command.

Students who fail to do their homework employ a various range of excuses, the most clichéd being "The dog ate it". In cartoons, main characters actually have their homework eaten on various occasion, but the teacher fails to believe them, leading on a wild goose chase to actually prove it.

Some public and private schools use a homework hotline which states the homework for the day. It can either be a telephone number that can be called up, or it may be a website that a student can go to.

Homework's for nerds,
