Sunday Night Blog

It's a Christmas miracle. Well, a September miracle. I remembered to blog about what I did today. I made a bet with myself. £10 said I wouldn't do it. I'm pissed because I lost the bet, but on the plus side I won £10 in another bet so it's all evened out rather nicely.

Today we went to Shuttleworth, a nice place set in rural Bedfordshire. There was a county fair on, which Ellie and her parents have been to for a few consecutive years now (and I'm sure I've been before but I can't think when or who with).
We spent a while wandering around steam engines, getting covered in black stuff and breathing in a lot of steam (which Ellie was sure was giving her lung cancer - I didn't have the heart to explain that it was only water vapour). We looked at classic cars (the majority of which looked hideously ugly), old fire engines, hippy vans and caravans. Me and Ellie wandered off and saw ferrets (the majority of which looked hideously ugly), looked around the market and bought chips. As we were waiting in line for the chips, Ellie noticed a bunch of teenage guys gawping at me. I looked over and - picture if you will - saw a teenage version of Danny Zuko from Grease. Only imagine that Danny Zuko had actually been as gay as he looked. This is what this one kid was like, continually staring at my crotch region for a few minutes. It was rather uncomfortable, to say the least.

We went to a museum and saw lots of planes and airships from World War 1. We went to a reptile house where Ellie amused everyone by shrieking loudly when the tarantula behind the glass moved. We went on a circular walk through a forest and got lost (the sign said 'circular walk', although the path ended in a large bush, leaving walkers to fend for themselves and find their own way back through the dense trees). We bought ice-creams from a man who looked hideously ugly.

All in all, we had a fantastic day.

Saturday Night Blog

Well I've already screwed up the whole "keeping people up to-date" thing, since I haven't blogged for a week or so. Sorry. I'll standing in the corner and thinking about what I've done as soon as I finish typing.

School has been very uneventful. Shed-loads of work (and an alarming increase in the amount of homework I've been set - and a dramatic decrease in the time I'm given to do it in), a few new teachers (all of whom appear to be quite nice, apart from my new French teacher who is obviously Shrek in disguise. The woman is more like a man than I am. And boy do I hope she doesn't realise that I'm talking about her) and a lot more responsibility for me as a peer mentor ('cos I'm cool).

On the "what else have I been doing" front, I've been spending a lot of time hanging around on LiveWire, a teen forum. I've become something of a joke on there, being as I have bucket loads of points already and have only been there for a month and a bit. Check it out (if you're a teen that is).

I've also been checking out new TV shows. Well, not "new" as such. "New to me" would be a better way of putting it. I recently started watching Life on Mars which I've found amazing so far. Expect a lot of reviews on that soon.

Tomorrow I'm going out to a county fair with Ellie. It should be fun. I've set myself a reminder to blog about it when I get home. £10 says I don't do it.

School

Well I had my first day of regular lessons today. It's my final year at school so everything is geared towards my final exams. It was slightly worrying that the teachers got us straight to work rather than introducing us and the other activities you'd expect on the first day back at school. This year is going to be very different.

I'm pretty happy with my timetable. I'm with friends for all of my lessons (although I can't stand my math class. God, the people there are awful) so this year will be busy yet fun for me.

And I've never been so tired after a first day back...

Weekend Activities

Well the last four days have been a non-stop flurry of activity.

On Thursday I was in London attending the big FRANK Thanks (for anybody outside of the UK, Talk to FRANK is a government run information service about drugs). The event was put on to thank people like me who took part in their campaigns and spread the word across the nation. It was hosted at Stratford Circus (which is apparently a well known theater - I'd not heard of it) so all of the workshops had a performing arts theme.
My first workshop was a make-up demonstration. I learned how fake wounds are made using wax, powder paint and fake blood and then I had a go at making my own (my friend Vic cautiously allowed me to glue my wound to her hand - it looked great). She put her fake wound on my face and I had numerous people ask me what I had done to myself.
The second workshop was circus tricks (as my other half pointed out, should my teaching career ever go down the spout I can now join the circus). I learned how to walk on stilts, juggle, spin plates on sticks and use poi (if you've not heard of it before look it up, it's great!). I'm now an accomplished circus-freak.
I was less than impressed with lunch. The lunch bags they had provided us consisted of sub-par food and for a posh looking theater I was expecting more. The main part of the meal was a sandwich (I had a delightful cheese, mayo, parsley and tomato sandwich. My friend Jo nearly threw up at the sight of her caramelised vegetable sandwich) which tasted awful. But hey, it was free. Can't complain.
Friday saw me being attacked by my other half's dog and cooking a curry for eight people.
I spent Saturday with Ellie over at my house. Neither of us felt very well so we spent all day lounging around watching TV and films and eating chocolate. I cooked a lovely chicken, mushroom and sweetcorn pasta for dinner.
Today I have spent the majority of the day on a camp site with Ellie's family because it was her cousin's birthday. The dog decided to slobber all over me so now my jeans are soaking wet.

What a way to end my summer holidays.

It's been a while

Well it's been a while since I last wrote anything in this blog. If I'm honest I completely forgot I had signed up here.
Not much has changed in my life recently. I've been spending the summer holiday relaxing with a few good games, some decent TV and of course good music. I'm not looking forward to school (which is now less than a week away), but everybodies gotta do what they gotta do I suppose.

If I survive school I'll be sure to update this blog as often as I remember.

I heard this song on the radio late one night and I realised I absolutely had to download it because it sounded amazing. It was only later on that I realised it was by a-ha (who, of course, everybody knows for Take On Me). What a contrast there is between the two songs!

Dido's music is everything a person like me could want: an amazing and beautiful voice, deep and meaningful lyrics fused with smooth yet funky rhythms and beats. Sadly she's nowhere to be seen at the moment...

I'd like to start by saying that I like this song. The beat is catchy, Rihanna has a fabulous voice and the lyrics are meaningful (even if I don't agree with them). I listened to the song once and instantly fell in love with it.
What annoys me is the fact that teenage girls everywhere have heard the song and thought "well it's OK to cheat on people as long as I pretend it's actually upsetting me". Wrong. It's not OK to cheat. This song (sadly) seems to promote this idea and it's a shame such a beautiful track and voice is wasted on lyrics that promote infidelity.

Love him or hate him, you have to admit one thing - the Crazy Frog is a success. Mobile phones across the world can be heard spouting his incessant ringtones, kids and adults alike are popping his CD into their players and absorbing themselves in some of our favourite tunes with the "Crazy Frog touch". For every person that says they love the genitalia-flashing frog, another says they idolise him.
And why not? Can you blame his creators for trying to cash in on him? They came up with the idea of "frogifying" music like Jingle Bells and We Are the Champions and it's been a success.
Whether the people who roll their eyes and block their ears every time he appears on the radio would agree is a different matter.

It's not often a song can be both inspiring and uplifting at the same time. Bright Future in Sales is a song you can't listen to without smiling. It just makes you happy. It also gives you a nice look into the world of a salesman.

You know back at first school when your parents told you not to hang around with that kid because he was a bad example. Yeah.. um.. that was me. I game way too much and I have some really ancient consoles (like, from the days when dinosaurs were still around).
