Chain Celebrates 40 Years of Existence
2008 marks the Celebration of 40 Years of my main-stay band called "CHAIN", Which is a record for an Aussie band to have been together that long and still continuing to tour, record and play as a full time unit.
2008 also marks my 50th year of reading, performing and writing music and still loving it. So it is a fab year all round. It goes without any doubt that the longer you play a song the better and more exciting it becomes. But Music to me is the most beautiful thing in this crazy world we live in now in 2008. Chain / Doobie Brothers Tour Gig Review
Oz band Chain has just finished 12 gigs around Australia supporting American Band the 'Doobie Brothers". I must say that the Doobie Brothers in my opinion are one of the most Professional and Talented bunch of Musicians that I have heard in a group sense for a lot of years. Every guy in that band was first class with their individual Instruments and Vocals. I think Tom Johnston is the voice of rock music and John McFee is a multi-instrumental wizard. The 2 Drum-set combination of Mike Hossack and Ed Toth was very refined and both possess great technique and feel . The bass man "Skylark" really balanced the groove between the 2 drummers.
Their Keyboard player Guy Allison had a beautiful Piano sound and a 1st. class Pianist. Along with their Reed player Mr. Marc Russo who wailed on the Alto and Tenor Saxophones.
Last but not least Mr. Pat Simmons , beautiful and frightening Electric guitar solos and Vocals. What a fabulous group of music makers. Love, Barry (lil goose) Harvey (Drummer with Chain).

Best version of these 2 Blues classics that I have heard. The Album deserves 5 STars.
The first track on this Album would be good for Blues (Electric) Players listen to. But that is very hard to convince them to take the time to listen. The first track is A Shuffle with an unbelieveable groove, the Bass Playing is really get down and dirty and with the drums makes Ellington's Orchestra groove and it is a 12 bar blues, like most Electric Blues Players play all the time. But, Ellington has all these Masters of their instruments, perfectionists and when each player takes a solo the band changes key each time and the thing builds and buids on each Key change. What a great track. Ellington's portraits of each person mentioned on each track portrays their sound and feel perfectly. His Portrait of all the greats are spot on. One of my Favorite tracks is Blues from the Delta or the "beautiful Delta" of the Mississippi River ( spelling ok? ). When you listen to the Orchestration and the actual composition you can imagine a very peaceful river delta, he portrays everything perfectly and your imagination can take you to where or what he is writing about. This Album is a must for Jazz Fans and Rock Blues, Electric Blues and all blues players, as there really is no difference when they have the Magic Groove. TEN STARS.

"BROTHER GOOSE" and is my fave for the 21st. Century so far. It is BRILLIANT.
We lost "The Pig" to Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs after the first CHAIN Abum, but he was replaced by Australia's one and only Matthew Taylor. then we wrote "Black and Blue" which was a national hit in Australia. It was no.1 in Melbourne for 13 weeks. Michael Gudinski who was our manager at the age of 18 and stayed with us forever, not as our manager but a soul who matured into a great Human Being. He told us to Record an Album immediately after the single got to no.1. So we recorded an Album called "Toward the Blues", which holds the record in Australia as the only Album never to be taken off Record Store Displays.
We went on to 'Chain Live Again" put out by Festival Records with the same line-up as 'Chain Live" The band then went through many changes, but the Matt Taylor, Phil Manning, Lil Goose combination got back together in 1994 with a new bass player Dirk Dubois. This band is still touring now in 2005. And is FIRING, Love, Lil_Goose
