Congrats!

I am having less and less time with my new job and frequent trips to login regularly to tv.com. As such, I retired from a few more guides where there was someone close enough to inherit the guide.

Congrats to anyone who got a guide! I know you'll look after them well.

David Tennant as Hamlet! Opening Night!

Well today was seriously an awesome day. Went to Stratford-upon-Avon, had a picnic lunch by the water w/my friend Jennifer, cousin Alison, and her boyfriend Mark. After that, Mark and Alison headed out to do some errands. Jennifer and I strolled around a bit. She had a meeting to go to for her thesis research, so I went back to the water, cranked up the MP3 player w/some Jeff Buckley, and stared up at the clouds. It was oh-so-relaxing. Perfect weather too.

We managed to get me a ticket for opening night; Jennifer had one ticket, so she had offered to swap out with me in the intermission. So it was cool that we both had tickets, so we could both see the whole performance. My seat was awesome, front row in the circle, nearly dead center. And Jen's was right next to the stage ramp, near the center, second row. We swapped at intermission which proved awesome for me because Patrick Stewart kept passing by me, so close that I coulda touched him, hehe. Yes, I love Star Trek: TNG, so that was really awesome for me. And then, during Ophelia's funeral scene, David Tennant was crouched right next to me for a good two minutes. When he said his lines, he actually sprayed it... all over my face. Hah. It was a little odd, to be honest. I think the girls a few rows away wanted to murder me. They were swooning whenever DT was anywhere near them.

Overall, it was a fantastic day. I really had a blast just lying on the grass by the water. Nice and relaxing. And opening night of Hamlet did not disappoint.

Precious Ours
"Grows on you"
I think there's a lot of pressure in the music business today to not let the people forget you by staying up-to-date and releasing albums quickly, even before they're ready. And I do hate to say it, but this album needed more work; it was released too soon. But put yourself in their shoes--if you knew it wasn't ready, but your company was going to drop you if you insisted on delaying it, would you do it? Part of me wishes they had, but of course, they didn't have the foresight to know that Mercy wouldn't come out until 2008, with loyal fans chomping at the bit the entire time. "Femme Fatal" is a pretty song, but it doesn't fit. Sure, it's "OURS'd" up, but... still it just doesn't fit. It's like the studio-execs wanted to toss in a song that everyone knows to reach more people. But Jimmy should have stuck to his guns and not let them twist his arm into this one. The reason that despite my agreeing that the album was released too quickly, but still receives a four-star rating is simple: "If Flowers Turn." It's a beautiful song, my favorite on the album. And also, I don't expect "Good" from OURS, I expect "Excellent." Nothing short of amazing, to be honest. So it hurts to have to admit this album didn't meet my expectations. That said, I do think that people are too hard on this album, particularly Gnecco himself. It's still worth a listen.

Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy) Ours
"Masterpiece"
This is an outstanding album; it shows such a growth from OURS' other albums. I'm overwhelmed by the positive message it gives. If one takes the time to truly let Jimmy Gnecco's lyrics sink in, one will see what a spiritual journey life truly is, and the beautiful way he is able to convey it. The message is clear: don't just sit back and let life pass you by. You have to be proactive, and you must stop worrying and obsessing over things that don't really matter. From the political themes present in "Black" and "Murder" to the sad, sad warblings of "God Only Wants You," I am completely in love with this album. It's a masterpiece.

Jimmy Gnecco's voice and emotions amaze me every time I listen to Ours' music. I love their guitars, lyrics, heck, everything about them! Can't wait to see how things go for them with their new album in March '08. Take a listen, you won't be disappointed!

"Masterpiece"
Ours is amazingly underrated. From "Fallen Souls" to "Dizzy" to "Sometimes" I just can't get enough of this album. Jimmy Gnecco's voice is outstanding, and I just can't fathom how he's able to hit such high notes. The way his emotions come out through the songs is enough to bring tear's to one's eyes. And the guitar melodies can't be beat. This is hands down, my favorite album of all time.

Just started listening to these guys on the recommendation of a friend. I love their sound! It's really fresh, in comparison to the stuff you hear on the radio. Just when you think it's going to be a nice, pop love-song, the hard-rock sounds come in. It keeps you guessing, and is a very appealing, original sound. Love all the instrumentals.
