hmm...

I just re-watched the anime movie 5 cm Per Second, which is a beautiful work of fiction, at least if you ask me. It's, in very short terms, a movie about growing up and letting go of the past, and the sadness which may follow from not being able to do so. I don't know about you, but for me this is an important thing to have in mind. The reason is that I'm a particularly nostalgic person, and, well, I often wish things haven't changed, no matter how good they actually are now. Heck, I even get that feeling when watching longer anime series, or at the end of one; I just miss the way things were before, if you know. Of course, there is the matter of re-watching, but it's just a temporary escape.

Anyway, this closeness I have with the theme of the movie; this identifying with the main character is what has made this movie something very special for me; not as an anime or movie fan, but as a human.

Sounds like a movie I can relate to. I have the same issue with anime. That's how I finished Elfen Lied, which isn't even a long anime.

He has a pretty voice. I wonder what one more chance is in Japanese... But that sounds like a interesting movie. It's sad not being able to let go, no matter how much you want to. For me it just goes to a feeling of resentment, after that. But I don't know, different people, different situations. And just letting you know, Espen, you have a pretty good way with words.

Just watched this one actually! I thought it was very nice and relates to the way life is. Which one did you like best? The Train one was my favorite (cherry blossum one I think)

I know what I'm about to say probably won't make any sense considering Mokoto Shinkai make both 5cms Per Second and Voices of a Distant Star but is 5cms Per Second similar to Voices of a Distant Star?

I didn't really like 5cm Per Second. I mean, it's a wonderful film! I absoultely loved the art and animation and the story was well written, but... I don't like depressing stories. =( Depressing stories make me depressed and when an anime makes me depressed, I usually give it an 7 or 8 out of 10. A little selfish, I know... but it was too sad (and boring actually... =/ ). Anyway, I know what you mean about nostalgic animes. It's great to re-watch those kinds. For me, I think my nostalgic anime is Inuyasha because I used to watch it every night back when I was in middle school.

Anywho.... I admire your closeness to the movie. =) It's a beautiful movie indeed that I think quite a few people could relate to.
