Half-Life 2 has been conquered! Also, Dreamcast.
Hey Gamespot! Just want to fill you guys in on some stuff. Today I beat Half-Life 2 for the Xbox and it was fantastic, definitely one of the best games i've played. After I beat it I was really wanting to play Episode 1 so I mentally went over my options:
1. Get a new computer.
2. Get a 360.
3. Play it over feshmans house ![]()
In the end i've decided on most likely getting a new computer, as the one I own now is pretty old and I wanted to get a 360 after the Aug 2008 update. So I might be putting my Christmas money toward a new computer. In other news, I got a Dreamcast! I got a pretty good deal on it ($30 for the system, controllers, a vmu, and cords) and i've been enjoying it. But I have a question for fellow Dreamcast owners, when I play some games the system makes a screeching noise. Now I know the dreamcast is supposed to be loud, but is this screeching noise normal? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. If your wondering what games I got with it they were:
Tony Hawks Pro Skater, Blue Stinger, Carrier, and Jet Grind Radio
I also ordered Sonic Adventure 2 off ebay. Oh and by the way, anybody have any Dreamcast game recommendations?
On the non-gaming side of things my local library had a huge book sale, hardback were $1.00 and paperback were $0.50. I picked up:
The Book of Lists: The 90's Edition by David Wallechinsky and Amy Wallace (Hardcover), Age of Consent by Howard Mittelmark (Paperback), Monsters in Our Midst by various authors and edited by Robert Bloch (Hardcover), Ghoul by Brian Keene (Paperback), Dead City by Joe McKinney (paperback), Shadowfall by James Clemens (Paperback), The Straight Dope by Cecil Adams (Paperback), and The Devil's Bride: Exorcism: Past and Present by Martin Ebon (Hardcover).
Well, thats about it. Hope you guys had a good weekend. Please leave comments, negitive or postive. Till next blog...
Atari 2600 is here!
This's blog's a little late but I just wanted to let you guys know that my 2600 got here on Monday and i'm having a great time with it. Playing a lot of my favorite classics (Centipede, Space Invaders, Missle Command, Warlords) from my house is just awesome and it's really fun messing around with the variations. Other than that everything's pretty much the same. I did pick up some games from a pawn shop on Thursday, they were:
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando (PS2) $10.00
Gorf (2600) $3.00
Super Mario World (SNES) $5.00
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) $5.00
Super Metroid (SNES) $5.00
So yeah, some really good games. I owned LoZ: ALtP, SMW, and SM but sold them along with my original SNES when I was 9 or so so it's good to have them back ( I never beat SMW and SM when I had them either). I also picked up Stephen Colbert's new book I Am America (And So Can You!) and I have to say that it's hilarious. If you like The Colbert Report, you have to pick it up. Well that's about it. Till next blog...
Long Time, No Blogs...
Hey guys, I know it's been forever since my last blog but i've been really busy with school and other stuff and haven't have much free time. I mainly am making this blog to let everyone know about Monster Fest which is on AMC every year in October for 2 weeks. Basically it's 2 weeks of nonstop horror movies, which if you like horror movies, is awesome.
It's got some great movies this year like The Exorcist, Hellraiser, Halloween, The Howling and lots more. So if your a horror movie buff, check it out. I have gotten TONS of games since my last blog and I really don't feel like listing them all, so if you're really interested in what games I have, check out my Collection which is updated.
I will say that I have gotten 3 new systems since my last blog, they are: Sega Genesis, PSP Slim, and an Atari 2600. I got the Genesis for $10 from a garage sale as kind of an impulse buy. I've always been interested in Sega systems and so far i've been really happy with it and it's games. I got the PSP Slim (Silver, in case you're wondering) from a used CD store (go figure) for $130.00 with Daxter, Family Guy Freakin Sweet Collection, 2 GB Memory stick, and the charger. I think I got a really good deal on it and i'm really enjoying it. At this point, I like it more than my DS. I really don't understand all the negitive press it gets, it's a fantastic system with tons of great games. As for the 2600, I really can't say anything about it because as of right now it's still coming in the mail but i'll let you guys know when it gets here. I'm really excited about it as I got 20 games for $5 from a flea market recently including Space Invaders, Missle Command, Yars Revenge and Warlords, so I can't wait to play those. That's about it, please leave comments on anything you have to say, negitive or positive. Back to watching more Monster Fest!
Till next blog...
Games Beaten/Bought: Week of 13th-18th + Other Stuff
Sorry for the lateness of this blog, guys. This weekend was my grandparents 50th anniversary and relatives from New Mexico to Maryland came down to celebrate. So basically, I only came to my house to sleep. We spent all of Friday, Sat., Sun., and Monday with relatives. But that didn't stop me from playing games. I played my DS like crazy and as a result my games beaten last week were:
Contact (DS)
Yep, that's it. But I started Contact on Friday and finished on Sunday and it took me a good 15 hours to beat it. I also worked on some console games (mainly Zelda: TP, Dragon Warrior, and Illusion of Gaia) but that was during the weekdays of last week. As for games I bought:
Illusion of Gaia (SNES) $10.00
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts (SNES) $8.00
The Guardian Legend (NES) $3.00
All good purchases in my opinion. The only one i've really worked on so far is Illusion of Gaia and it's a great game. Also, I got a part time job, working three days a week, four hours a day, for $7.50 an hour. So we all know what this means.... more money for games! Although i'll probably have less time to play them now that I have school and a job. But three days a week isn't bad and I don't have to work weekends which is really nice. As you can see, the 360 fund is moving along nicely as i'm about half way there. Well that's about it GameSpot. As always, leave comments on anything you want, even if they're negitive. Till next blog....
Games Beaten Week of 6th- 12th and some other news.
Ah, this was a good week for gaming. I purchased some games, rented some games, and beat some games. The games I bought this week were:
Resident Evil 0 (GC) $15.00
Warioworld (GC) $15.00
Castlevania: The Quest (GB) $10.00
Chrono Cross (PS1) $5.00
R-Type DX (GB) $5.00
Other than Castlevania: The Quest, i'm really happy about what I bought this week. I got a really good deal on Chrono Cross and R- Type DX and Resident Evil 0 and Warioworld are great games as well. As for what I beat this week:
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Wii)
Warioware: Smooth Moves (Wii- Rented)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii- Rented)
Yep, spent alot of time playing my Wii this week as you can see. Not that I neglected my other games though, i'm about halfway through Dragon Warrior, I just got to the mansion in Resi Evil 0 and am close to beating Yoshi's Island DS. In other gaming news, I have officially decided to start saving up for an Xbox 360 Premium system, as you can see by the fund i've added to my blog header. Now, i'm buying it through PayPal which means all my money will come from me selling stuff on ebay. Not only does this let me buy games with my allowance/work money but I believe I can raise $374.00 faster through ebay. So if you have some extra money lying around and feel like buying some games, please check out the stuff i'm selling through the link in my blog header. That's about it, till next blog.....
Games Beaten: Week of the 30th - 5th
I know i'm alittle bit late on this but it completely slipped my mind last night.
But anyways, last week I beat:
Monster Party (NES)
Garfield: Caught in the Act (GG)
Starfox 64 (N64)
So yeah, beat a couple good games last week. Garfield was pretty bad, but then again almost all Game Gear games are. Monster Party and Starfox 64 were great, though. Almost done with Resi Evil 4: Wii Edition and making slow but steady progress in Dragon Warrior. Till next blog....
Went on Vacation
Just got back from vacation on Friday, so I figured I would post a blog letting you guys know what I did. My family and I stayed up in Cleveland, we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a few museums, and (at my urging) a video game store called Video Game Connection. The Rock and Roll HoF was pretty cool (although nowhere near worth the $20 it costs to get in) but it only had two exhibits that I really enjoyed: The Warped Tour and The Doors. The Warped Tour exhibit had some footage from the tour and various guitars and clothes the bands wore (including Frank Iero's guitar, you know, the guitarist from MCR), the Doors exhibit had some concert footage as-well, but also had some weirder stuff like Jim Morrison's death certificate and some of his strange art, which was pretty cool. I picked up three NES games from Video Game Connection:
Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse = $12.95
Monster Party = $3.95
Shadowgate = $4.95
After checking ebay when I returned home I realized I got a little ripped off on Castlevania 3, but it's ok. The guy who ran the place actually cleaned each carts contacts, opened the carts and cleaned the inside, and let me play them for about 5 min each before I bought them. Aside from the games I bought, my mom picked up Contact and i'll probably end up playing it after she finishes it. He had tons of SNES and NES games so i'll probably end up going there again in the future. That was about it for the vacation, aside from the 3 or 4 museums we went to. Gaming wise, i'm really close to beating Earthbound, i'll probably finish it today or tomorrow. Also, I figured i'd start listing the games I beat each week on Saturday or Sunday to let you guys know what I beat each week. This week I beat:
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)
Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
Warioware: Twisted! (GBA)
Robot Ninja Edit!: Earthbound (SNES)....... It was sooooooooo awesome........
That's about it for this blog. Post some comments if you'd like, vacation stories of your own or just something else you wanted to say something about. Till next blog.....
Garage Sales are Nice
Today I went to some garage sales and got some great deals. I bought:
Diddy Kong Racing w/instructions (N64) = $5.00
Daft Punk- Homework = $2.00
blink-182 - Enema of the State = $2.00
Super Nintendo = $1.00 (
)
Yep, I got a Snes for $1! Now it doesn't have any cables or controllers, but it works and i'm going to keep it as a back up in case my original snes dies. I also stopped at Borders and bought Harry Potter and the Deathy Hollows. So far i've read up to Chapter 4 and it's excellent. At Borders I also ordered The Nightmare Before Christmas: Special Edition DVD from their warehouse because they had none in stock. Overall, it was a great day for buying stuff!
Earthbound......
The Gods of Old School Gaming Have Smiled Upon Me
Yesterday, I was cleaning my room (yes, I really do clean my room without my parents forcing me to
) and as I started to clean out my closet I found this old wooden trunk that my grandpa made for me for Christmas when I was 8 or so. So I opened it up and found some games, well, a lot of games, 55 in all! 12 of them were SNES and the other 43 of them were NES. I also found my NES, but the 72-pin connector on it is shot so I have to get a new connector off of ebay. And so much for buying new SNES games on ebay, I have 12 awesome games to get me started. And all of this was in a cardboard box, in my closet. So the worst part about this is that I can't play any of them till I get my SNES and a new connector. But I almost have enough for the SNES, and the connector is only about $10 so i'll get that soon after. I listed all my games in my collection in case any of you are interested in what games they were. Also, this afternoon i'm going to see 1408 so i'll let you guys know how it is. Till next blog.....
Movie edit: 1408 was pretty sweet, i'd probably give it an 8/10.
Some Stuff to Discuss
Hey Gamespot, I know it's been awhile since my last blog, it's almost getting to the point of monthly blogs, but I have a good reason! I've been playing lots and lots of games and i've also been renting quite a bit. Right now i'm renting Beyond Good and Evil for the Xbox and people aren't kidding when they say it's one of the best games out right now, it's simply amazing. I believe that since my last blog i've beaten quite a few games, including: KOTOR 2 (great game though not as good as the first), Gun (great for a rental, but way too short for a full purchase), Doom 3 (awesome in every way, shape and form), Jade Empire (another awesome game), and Lunar Knights (pretty good as well). So i've been pretty busy, eh?
I'm at a standstill on some of my Now Playing games, in Guitar Hero 2 i'm stuck on Pyschobilly Freakout on Expert and as for Thousand Arms, I really don't like it anymore, so i'm thinking about selling it. Speaking of selling (well really buying, I guess), i'm looking to purchase a Super Nintendo. Now, i've narrowed it down to two choices: an FC Twin (plays both SNES and NES games) or the newer model SNES. They're both about the same price (the FC is $50.00, the SNES is $52.00) and I think i've decided on the SNES after hearing some bad things about the FC Twin (blurred colors, not compatible with all NES games, off key sound), but if you've guys had any experience with the FC Twin, please let me know, as it would really help me with my decision. Thanks in advance.... ![]()
In non game related news, I went to see SiCKO and hope the rest of you do the same. It really shows how messed up our health-care system is, and how great other countries health-care is. Even if you hate Michael Moore, please go see it. I also bought the new The Used cd Lies for the Liars and it's really good, so if you've been thinking about picking it up, definitely do. That's about it Gamespot, please leave comments or suggestions, negative or positive. Till next blog.....
A Tiny Update Blog.
Top 6 SNES Games That I Want to See on the Wii Virtual Console
In no particular order:
1: Earthbound - Really great memories of this one, but when I sold my SNES (a decision I still regret) this game went with it. I would kill to play this game again. ![]()
2: Super Metroid - More fond memories. But worse yet, I never beat it when I had my SNES!
3: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - I rented this when I had my SNES and it was one of the best RPG's that I had ever played. Don't remember too much about it, although I do remember that I didn't complete it.
4: Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Owned this but sold it with my SNES. Great game, although once again, I never beat it.
5: Secret of Evermore - Never owned/played this one but i've heard great things about it. It sounds pretty awesome to me....
6: Chrono Trigger - Another game that I never played but have heard tons of good stuff about. I really have to play this one.
I know that not all of these can/will be on the VC, they're just the ones I really would like to see. Maybe i'll do some more lists later for the other systems. For a bit of unrealated news, I beat KOTOR (It was AWESOME!) and ordered Tales from the Crypt: Season 2 off of ebay. Till next blog.....
It's Been Awhile.......
Hey GameSpot, ....... it's been awhile since my last blog...... sorry about that.
Anyways, let's get right into all the juicy gaming news, shall we? I got an Xbox, for free. Yeah.... to make a long story short, I found it, turned it into the police, they kept it for 30 days, nobody claimed it, I get to keep it! It's a pretty awesome console too, definitely the most advanced of the last generation (and I really hated the Xbox too). So far i've got four games for it: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (no excuse for why I bought this, I don't even like the genre and the game is really blah anyway, i'll probably end up selling it), Demon Stone (got it new for $5.00...... $5.00!!!), Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams (always liked the Silent Hill series and it just so happens that the Xbox version of 2 has more stuff than the PS2 version), and finally, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. What I really want to talk about is KOTOR, it's amazing. I really, really like it and recommend anyone who owns an Xbox to pick it up. (Now..... no really go get it......) So it's all that i've been playing lately (at home, that is). While on the road or away from home i've been playing Sonic Rush (now on the final boss for Sonic) and Megaman Battle Network 5 (impulse buy for $10, it was worth it). In other gaming news, I picked up Super Paper Mario (which I am ashamed to say, I haven't played yet, but I will soon!). Also, since I have all these awesome games just sitting around waiting for me to play/beat them, i've made a promise to myself not to buy anymore games until my backlog is around 10 games or so. That should help me lower my massive backlog, if anything can.
That's about it on the gaming side, as for non gaming stuff, I recently (two Saturday's ago) went to see Hot Fuzz, which was beyond awesome. Go see it! Especially if you liked Shaun of the Dead. I've also become interested in the Tales of the Crypt series (which is pretty ironic because from the ages of 5-8 I was scared to death of it) and have gone as far as buying one of the old comics off of ebay and am now saving my money to buy season 2 (rented season 1 and loved it). Book-wise, I am currently reading The Essential Dracula, which while still being the original written by Bram Stoker, has tons of footnotes going more indepth in the story and explaining words that are archaic. If you plan on reading Dracula anytime soon, please pick up this version. While all the footnotes may be overwhelming at first (I almost considered taking it back to the library to pick up the original copy) they really help explain parts of the story to you and can make the book much more interesting. That's about it GameSpot..... please comment on anything, even if your just saying hi or leaving something negative
. Till next blog.......
Some updates.........
Hey Gamespot, sorry for not blogging for awhile, i've been pretty busy with school projects. I know in my last blog I said I was going to write a review for Shadow Hearts, i'm working on it. It might be up tomorrow, but at the very latest Saturday night. Gaming wise, I beat Kirby's Adventure for the Wii VC. It was a great game, a true classic. If you've never played any of the Kirby games before, pick one up, they're a lot of fun. I'm also making slow but steady progress in Expert on Guitar Hero 2, right now i'm stuck on Stop by Jane's Addiction. It's difficult.
In my last blog I mentioned that I had ordered Vagrant Story for the PS1, after receiving it in the mail and playing it, I have to say that I really, really dislike it. Not what you were expecting? Me neither. It has all the trappings of my favorite games: dungeon crawler, advanced combo/creation system, complex battle system, and it also got lots of positive reviews (GS gave it a 9.6). But I just hate it. So I put that up on ebay along with some other games that i'm not particularly fond of (Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Izuna) and i'm going to use the money I make to get an MP3 player with video capabilities, but after that I need to pick out a game that I want first. So if you guys could do me a favor, go to my Wish List and pick the game you think I should buy next. Thanks to those of you who pick one, it'll help.
Other than that, not much is going on. So.... till next blog.......
Edit: Shadow Hearts review finally up. Teh lateness, I know......
Back To School :(
A New Review and a Wii!!?!?!
A new review is up for Armored Core: Nexus, so please read it and let me know what you guys think. Anyways, I got a Wii.
I've had the money for awhile and on Friday I thought I would try to track one down. After calling about seven stores a GameStop near me finally said that they had three. I quickly went to go buy it and by the time I got there they had already sold one, so it was pretty lucky that I got it. I bought the Wii myself and my parents bought me Zelda:TP and it's players guide, which was really nice of them. As for comments on it, it's amazing and everything I had hoped it would be. Zelda is excellent and time goes by so quickly when your playing it (i've already racked up about 7 hrs). I also purchased two games from the Virtual Console: Super Mario Bros. and Kirby's Adventure, both for the NES. I just have to say that if you have been on the brink of buying a Wii and you don't know if you should, BUY IT!!
But just because I got a shiny new Wii doesn't mean i've been neglecting my other systems. I played Guitar Hero 2 on Saturday and today and am about 15 songs through Expert. I also beat Phoenix Wright: AA for the DS, which was a phenomenal game. I'll probably put a review up for it soon. Otherwise, my teeth have been letting me know that they hurt.
Luckily, I have pain medicine that was given to me but still, it kinda sucks that i'm in pain during my Easter Break from school. But while we're on that subject, happy Easter!!! Till next blog.......
An update on things.
Hey guys, I just thought i'd update some stuff from my last blog. Game wise, i've been playing mostly GoW2 and Armored Core: Nexus for the PS2 and Phoenix Wright:AA for the DS. Although I haven't played Phoenix Wright in awhile, i've been playing GoW2 like crazy and yet, i'm not making any progress. You see, after beating Spartan mode I thought i'd see if I was tough enough to play Titan mode. Big mistake. Titan mode kicks my butt pretty badly and right now i'm stuck on Theseus, and it looks to stay that way for awhile as I just can't beat him. On the other hand, I beat Hard mode on both Guitar Hero 1 and 2, and am now playing though Expert on 2, so that was nice.
Non gaming wise, out of the two movies I ordered from ebay (Vampire Hunter D and Bloodlust) i've watched one (Vampire Hunter D) and it was pretty great, right up to par with the book. I'm waiting to watch the other one because I have the book it's based on (VHD: Volume 3) and I want to read that first. Anyways, do you guys like the new banner? I made it with some trial software called Banner Maker Pro 6, and I was pretty satisfied with how it came out. I'd like to hear your opinions on it, if you have any. And last but not least, tommorrow i'm getting all of my wisdom teeth taken out. I have to wake up at about 7:30 AM so I might let you guys know how it went later in the day. Wish me luck! Till next blog.....
UPDATE: Surgery went well, although there's alot of swelling and i'm in quite a bit of pain. ![]()
Vampire Hunter D= Awesomeness.
How's it goin' GameSpot? Just thought i'd fill you guys in on some thing's that have been going on. As you can see, I started to read the Vampire Hunter D series of books, which is amazing. So amazing that I just bought the two movies on ebay: Vampire Hunter D and Bloodlust, so hopefully these will equal or surpass the books. In gaming news......not much. I've been working on Izuna and have defeated 3 dungeons/gods and i'm on the 4th case in Phoenix Wright, i'll probably play that a little later. Haven't played GoW2 much, but I did watch some of the special features disc, namely the Making Of and the Concepts (Kratos and creatures) and i'll definitely watch the whole thing at some time. Also, I haven't played Armored Core: Nexus or Shadow Hearts in awhile, so i'll have to work on those soon.
Enough of the good news, now the bad news
. It turns out it's time for me to get my wisdom teeth taken out. The appointment is set for April 5 so i'll have spring break to recover from it (all 4 are going to be taken out). So that will probably hurt for awhile.......but enough of that. Do you guys like the new font/color? Let me know, because if it hurts your eyes or something I can always use regular colors. Till next blog......
