The Disaster That Is Shaq-Fu - #2

I played this game once years ago and I wasn't sure what to think of it, only to realize that it was one of the worst experiences I've gone through.

Years later, I decide to give it another shot. After all these years, I still feel the same way for this horrendous fighting game.

You can read the review here:

Normally, I do NOT write in first-person. Most of my reviews are done in a different perspective, but for this once, I decided to write it in first-person. Why? Because I hate this game and I wish to trash it completely.

And oh god, it is such a horrible game. Yikes...

Here Goes Nothing - Blog #1

It's odd. After being a veteran of sorts as a reader reviewer and moderator volunteer during my tenure at Gamespot, I never blogged on the site. Granted, I've blogged in other places, but not on here. I figured that maybe now is the time to try blogging on this site and maybe let people know a little bit about me.

Like everyone else in the world, I had to discover, on my own, what I was good at. My first gaming system, as far as I can remember, was the Atari 5200. I received it as a Christmas present from my parents, along with two games that would change my life forever, which were Pac-Man and Dig-Dug and from there, I became hooked.

For the longest time, I wasn't sure how I'd be doing beyond the gaming field, but no matter what happened in my life, I always came back to it. In this one field, I am completely confident in my abilities as a gamer and I feel free. I feel like going on numerous adventures and checking out different jobs that I'd never be able to do in real-life, unless I set my mind to it and committed myself to that specific art. I didn't have to run or ask for help either, something that I struggle with in some subjects today. With a control pad in my hand, I felt like the most powerful being in the universe, no matter what game I played. Of course, I didn't feel that way when several games and genres didn't exactly do much for me, such as sports.

As I continued my journey in the gaming field, I discovered, somewhere along the way, that I could write - and felt really good about it! Yet another thing I was good at! That opened up the door in the form of a question - was it possible for me to combine my talents into one? My answer came, years and years later, in the form of the Internet. Although it wasn't developed to the way it is now, I had a good feeling that various gaming websites, ranging from developer to journalism websites, would pop up and that would allow me to continue my journey in the world of gaming.

Eventually, Gamespot finally came around. This was the site that I decided would be my home in the long run. I remember submitting two reviews (one for Tobal No.1 and the other being Star Gladiator, both on the PSOne) and getting word back, from one of the Gamespot editors, that my reviews would be published! Even though those reviews are no longer around, due to the fact that Gamespot erased their servers and started over, when I look back on them, I realize that they weren't exactly stellar reviews to begin with. But you gotta remember, that was just a start for me. I had a lot to learn!

As I progressed, my writing skill would improve and find mistakes that I would work on. I got better and better with my writing style. I grew more confident with each review that got published. The good thing about it is that, thanks to my skill, I was able to land in several volunteer jobs in small gaming sites, such as Game Addicts, in which I was a former news editor for the site, along with my last job for a gaming site, as a reviewer for RPGamer.com (although that lasted very shortly, due to a lot of reasons, none of which are my fault).

Nowadays, if you ask me, most reviews that I see, from other reader reviewers, is just either one-liners or don't make sense. It's rare to see some reviewers take their time and write a decent review that's worthy of reading, but I don't bother reading them. Too much to read and even if I took the time, it would probably end up being the same thing, over and over again. I feel that Gamespot needs to go back to that practice, where they would monitor reviews and publish the ones that really do deserve to be published.

The great thing is that all of my hard work has been noticed by several people that do work for Gamespot, one of them being Joe Fielder, former editor-in-chief for Gamespot. In his last column ever for the website, he acknowledged me and all the work I have done for the site as a Gamespot reader reviewer and even wished me luck in becoming a videogame journalist. Truth be told, that aspiration died a long time ago, due to the recent events that happened within the fold. I don't want my voice to be tarnished nor used for someone else's purposes or even be used as a way to firing me for just expressing my own two cents. I never want to go down that road. I see myself more as an honest person that refuses to bow down to anyone or anybody when it comes to how I think or feel about anything that's on my mind. I do not mind intelligent discussions or debates, however, since it helps in improving my social skill and learn something about the other person.

That said, this is my first blog. Hopefully, I'll be coming back to talk about more. Should anyone have any ideas on what they want me to talk about, feel free to post some comments! For now, enjoy my first blog and I look forward to updating it as time passes by!

About Me

I started to hang around Gamespot around 1997-1998 and joined these forums a bit short later. I was both an assistant moderator and a moderator for these boards. Now I'm just another gamer that lurks around a lot and posts just about anywhere. The old folks that knew me in the past consider me to be a legend, but I don't really believe that. I just enjoy gaming to a passion and will never stop playing until the day I die, if that's even the case. I can be found posting on the Omega Ruins or doing reader reviews, which is the main reason why I joined Gamespot - to share my honest opinions on the games that I play and try to enjoy to the best of my ability. Take a look around and hopefully, you may discover me to be an interesting cat!
