Anata
This Swedish band has been around for 15 years playing some very awesome technical death metal and yet they seem to not be that known. Their music has a strong melodic element but it isn't in the same vein as the stuff spawned in Gothenburg. Their music has some really great stuff going on in it. Apparently they use counterpoint. They're released 4 albums thus far. There's a bit of difference in the style on each one. So you owe it to yourself to check them out if this kinda stuff is right up your alley.
Here's some songs off their 2006 release
Gorguts "Obscura"
Obscura happens to be one of my most favorite death metal albums. I just love everything they did on it. It's a creative off-beat masterpiece. Nothing on there sounds like conventional death metal. They got some crazy stuff going on it with some weird sounds that I absolutely adore. Although this does make for a really hard listen especially since it's an hour long. It really does take more than a few listens to get accustomed to this album. It could sound quite annoying at first. I certainly would love if more bands tried to do something like this. Well not like it but creative. They certainly didn't make this album for the money, but instead had musical creativity in mind. Oh and how could I have forgot those tortured vocals. Yeah!
Here's some songs that have been uploaded on to youtube.

Demilich
They happen to be one of my most favorite death metal bands despite only releasing one album. That album titled Nespithe is pretty effin awesome in my opinion. I just love all the songs. My favorite aspect would have to be the sick vocals. They're like some sort of really deep belch or something. It's crazy. The playing is exceptionaly.
Their album is a free download on their site. Go dl it now if you haven't. It's worth your time if this music is right up your alley.
