Complaining about paying for DLC for a full price retail game is about as hard as arguing that rain is wet.
Its a no-brainer.
However, I have been of the school of thought that DLC in somecases isn't too bad.
Looking at a game like Warhawk for example; it was a solid title that I paid 39.99 for, and within the last six months paid the 15? bucks in order to add on the three additional expansion packs to the title.
I didn't pay full price for the game, the add on packs originally came at a time where I could see gamers getting bored of the maps and it was a means to refresh the online presence of the game, I am cool with that.
COD4 tossing out some map packs a few months down the line, also something I consider to be reasonable. COD4 shipped as a complete game with single and multiplayer aspects and was worth the full retails, giving me the option months later if I want to expand on that experience is fine.
Fallout 3, GTA4, Mass Effect are all games that as far as I am concerned give me the bang for my buck at full retail and gave me the option to purchase additional content that was over and above the game that in my opinion I got my money's worth for in the first place.
Now we have Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origin.
Both games that I consider to be solid, but games that in my opinion justify their retail price...
But...
Am I alone in being at least a little pissed off that new content for both these games were basically available either when these games came out or within a few weeks?
As far as I am concerned that leads me to believe that the developer held back aspects of the game in order to score a few more bucks by cutting out the middle man and releasing some of the game via DLC.
From a business stance, I get it.
Games cost a ton to develop, and making the money back can be hit or miss, and jobs en mass are lost on the miss
But for a game like Borderlands that became a hit because consumers took a plunge on a game that most experts did not even imagine this level of success in terms of sales really gets me going.
Aside from the odd time (Warhawk) I dont buy dlc, in the case of fallout i bought the add on discs and never bothered with Mothership Zeta because it did not have a disc option.
My concern is that sooner or later I am going to be paying 69.99 for a half finished game, and 30 bucks in DLC for the polish that finishes it off.
A long time ago it was more fun. It stood for something, but now its simply not the same. Its not even fun anymore. Time to focus on better things.
Btw if its not too much to ask, support this local OT yearly tradition.

Finally leveled up past my penalty levels for being an arse. Hay guys, I know it has been a long time since I have made a journal and all I can say is that I am sorry for leaving you guy in the dust. I had just recently broken up with my girlfriend after two years of being together and left this life behind. Know that I have all this time again, I came back her to my routes and decided it was time torevisitthe gamespot life once again. Lets start with an update on how I have been. I got a bunch of new games that Irarelyplay anymore and mygrammarhas gotten better
Lol! My writing has improvedincrediblyand I am planning to publish the previous story I wrote here into a trilogy called The Golden Trust. I want to keep thatunder-rapsuntil it gets out to the public so that way no one steals my ideas, so sorry about the tease. But the biggest news is after three years of asking and hoping, I finally got a laptop. But its not any laptop, it is the new Macbook and I love it. I will never use a PC again. I have also just finished a video class and now that I have all these tools, I was thinking about doing rants on youtube. My account name is therealagent81 , if anyone isinterestedin subscribing or just checking out my videos so far, witch is just a collection of cool AMV's I have found over the years and a trailer for the movie I directed called Masked. Be sure to check that out and give my your opinions on if I should do rants or not. I guess I leave another updatetomorrow, considering I am going back to updating this daily. I catch you all later.
PS: I know I failed with the Kingdom of Hearts Union, but that had died years ago, so stop telling me that we should bring it back, because I have noaccessto it because my computercrashedduring thereassigningof the leader, and gave it to a guy who is never online.
Level 40 -- 13% (God, I haven't done that in so long.)
So I've been trying to find different ways to utilize FRAPS, and recently I found out about how The Suffering became a free but ad-supported game, so I tried it out and filmed myself playing through the first level.
Of course, the video turned out to me 20 minutes and 10 gigs in size, so what I've planned on doing is making a compilation of highlights from each level into one video. Currently I'm working on finishing one up and it should be up within the hour, but if anyone has any alternate suggestions or other (preferably less time-consuming) methods of doing this that they'd like to see,let me know in the comment box! This current one is shaping up pretty well, but any other ideas are welcome.

You guys should take a look at my site sometime: www.junknet.dk.
Here you can play lots of free games!!
It's a danish site, but the games are english, so you should be able to handle yourself ![]()
I really hate the games companies. They have all year to release games but release them all in the space of two bloody months. My wishlist is far too freaking long and is gonna cost me a bomb. So far the list is:
Sneaky August
- Too Human
September
- Golden Axe
- Legendary
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
October
- Fable II
- Mirror's Edge
- Little Big Planet
- Wet
And there just the ones that defo have to buy, theres still atleast another 4 that I might buy. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. Why do I like all games far too much lol
I think the game that started it all for me was the original Star Fox for the SNES. I game I wanted as a kid for a reason I just can't explain. There was just something about it that appealed to me. I guess you could say I simply have a natural affinity for the gameplay, a genuine interest that I did not voluntarily desire.
Over the years I have had some of the funnest, most memorable and most satisfyingly challenging gameplay experiences in my life through rail shooters, especially with the Raiden series. Years ago, back in the days of the great console I know as the Sega Dreamcast, I remember seeing a brief video of a certain rail shooter. I didn't have to see much before I realized the gameplay drew very deep interest with me. To make matters more pleasantly surprising, the developer of the game is known for making a previous absolutely outstanding contribution to the genre, in fact, the game I so deeply wanted to play happened to be the spiritual successor of that very game. The developer was a company called Treasure, the predecessor's title is the c.lassic Radiant Silvergun, and the game I am talking about now is Ikaruga.
Now keep in the mind the time frame of just post-prime of the Sega Dreamcast until now. It was during that time I wasted little time getting the import of the game as a NA version was never made for the Dreamcast. And indeed, I remember playing that first level, I remember getting feeling that I perceive to be a sign of excellently designed gameplay challenge. I remember being unable to make it halfway past the first level of the game...I remember loving every second of my short-lived attempts.
Now honestly, there are few games that I've played that are solid in their design such that the level of challenge in the gameplay actually challenges me instead of turning me off, Ninja Gaiden is one of them, Ikaruga. Regardless of my numerous failed attempts to progress through this seemingly impossible-to-beat game, not once did the thought ever cross my that this game was too hard, as ironic as it sounds. And thus, not once did I ever entertain the thought of giving up.
With Ikaruga, I made a pact with myself that I can't remember ever doing before with any difficult game, I told myself, now matter how long it takes, no matter how many times I have to try, one day, i'm gonna beat this game. That was back in the days of the Dreamcast. Since then I eventually bought the GCN version so that I could read the text as my Japanese was not nearly good enough back then, and I bought the XBLA version the day it was released primarily for the beautiful HD visuals and the Xbox Live co-op. And not once all these years have I stopped playing this game, it has been without a doubt the most consistent and long-lived title on my Now Playing list ever.
Now yes, I can see how it may seem a bit pitiful that it took so long to build my skills with to where they are are. Of course, I have played (and beaten) many other games through this time. I have experienced the game over three different consoles, over multiple generations, and indeed, the game was not always front and center of my gaming focus. But never did any active version of the game collect dust. And regardless of how often I played it, the essential thing to understand about Ikaruga is that, perhaps more than at least the majority of other modern rail shooters out there (easily moreso than any others i've played), the game absolutely demands solid (practically flawless) reflexes, thorough knowledge of the levels and bosses, and true, hard-nosed, raw skill. This game is expertly designed such that if you're at least moderately lacking in any of those qualities, chances are very good that you will fail.
I remember when I first tried going co-op over Live. It simply presented 1 benefit. Everyone I played with died out me before reaching the end of the second level, most died out before reaching the end of the first level. And with shared continues, that meant I always ended up with my one set of lives to get through the entire game, that wasn't going to work out. Now of course, thats not the benefit i'm talking about it. The benefit was (and I really don't mean to be arrogant when I say this) seeing the stark contrast in adeptness to the game. It'd proven to me that my dedication to the game over the years has resulted in true development of my skills with the game, and gave me the confidence that I was definitely moving forward, so I decided to return to going at it alone.
A few days ago, I hit a big a milestone. I finally made it to the last level of the game after barely beating the boss of the level before that as I oh so desperately (verbally) begged to die moments before it did. For first time ever, after all these years, my eyes witnessed the final level of the game. Sure enough, with only one last life remaining, it was over shortly after it began. By that time, i'd been able to get through the first three levels fairly effectively, and I knew it was the level 4 boss that that bottlenecked my lives and practice on those final level should be my focus. I ended up not doing much of either.
Just today (Sunday), I completed Tales of Symphonia (my first ever Tales game) and finished Frequency, freeing up a share of my gaming focus. I'd planned to "transition" to my 360 after completing Tales of Symphonia, and spent a lot of the day pondering if i'd play Viva Pinata, Dead Rising or both. One thing lingered in mind as well: "i'm close...maybe I should practice".
Some of you may know that G4 aired the documentary, The King of Kong today. I watch the first have during its initial air and the second half during its encore. One scene that has stayed with me since seeing the end *spoiler*
was the one that showed Steve Wiebe, after the disappointing lack of return challenge from the then King of Kong, returned home disappointed, but most importantly, did not give up. He kept playing the game, and sure enough, he broke the record.
*end spoiler*
The key value I took from seeing that is the idea that persistence can pay off. That thought hasn't left my mind all night.
After popping in Viva Pinata and boy, getting sucked into the game and not wanting to stop, I eventually got myself to stop in order to work on my projects. I returned to the dashboard, but before I could turn the system off. A voice inside me simply said one thing: "lets just give it one shot".
No practice, no special preparation, lets just give it one shot. One attempt, then I'm turning the system off.
Playing through the game, self-discourse runs through my head:
"Wow you're flawless so far, you may just beat it"
"Just stay cool, don't think, just play"
"I have to think to think that"
"Just play the darn game"
*Killed by stray dot from the mental distraction*
"That was a stupid death"
"Its just one life total so far, I got plenty"
"I need every life I can get it"
"Stop thinking, just play the darn game"
Thankfully, from that point, I was able actually able to stop thinking and just play. I was so cool in fact (and playing so well as the same time) that I felt like I was playing like an expert on the game. I don't think I'd ever played the game so "carefree" before in my entire experience with it. So much so that I didn't know how many continues I had left going into the final stage...and I didn't care too much either. I didn't bother to look during the couple times I died before reaching the final boss, heck I didn't even bother to look when I died fighting the final boss.
The final task of the Ikaruga....is not on rails and it doesn't involve shooting. The final take task of Ikaruga...is survival for 1 minute. An on-screen timer shows this, and when I lost a life during this task, a loss that required the use of a continue, it was then that I finally noticed, I was on my last one...and then I wasn't calm anymore. A very noticeable thumping began in my chest.
My first time ever reaching it that far, 1 stock, 1 minute, 1 shot. Survival. For so many years I'd been working to get this point. Survival. For so long I persisted in my pact. Survival. Never did I give up. Survival...and I survived.
Well haven't written a blog in a while so I thought I might as well cause i'm bored out of my mind.
Got myself a PS3, which I do like but it definitely needs more games that aren't multiplatform, but it does have some good exclusives like Ratchet and Clank,Uncharted and MGS(when it comes out). Then I bought a 360 with a hard drive off my mate, for a pretty good price, I got it mainly for the exclusives which are good. So just wondering which ones I should get and should I get x-box live???I've got Halo 3,DOA4 and N3. I was also wondering if it's worth getting a Wii just for SSBB, Mario Galaxy and a no. of others such as No More Heroes???
I really enjoyed COD4 and I found the story very good in the single player just didn't last long enough, the sniping mission was amazing to play and I found the multiplayer online really good because I haven't really played by games online before I got my PS3. I found Halo 3 really good as well, even though some people think it isn't that good. I've found Pro Evo 2008 online really bad with the lag I hope the next one addresses these issues. Got GTA4 which is awesome, I just love it how you can fly out the windscreen, so I try and launch Niko into the sea, oh and i like the story as well and the game in general. Lol.
If anyone wants to add me on PSN,my name is Mopless as I need more friends online. Lol.

I'll get it back from her lol
...and the only prescription is more cowbell! But getting Rock Band into my waiting hands wouldn't be so bad either, lol. For the past couple years my view towards music has steadily shifted beyond just appreciating the music but rather picturing in my brain as vertically scrolling notes in green, red, yellow, blue and orange. Some songs I simply scoff at, knowing I could play it on expert on the first attempt while others leave me in a daze afterwords, catching my breathe from the imagined effort it would take to even merit a 3-star performance on medium.
However, my ear has begun to lend itself to other instruments beyond the guitar as the release date for Harmonix's next sure-fire hit approaches. One in particular has me itching to start a line outside my nearest game retailer in anticipation and that instrument is the drums.Somewhat lost in a world that has placed the lead guitar on an immensely high pedestal above all other instruments and even the lead singer in some cases, the drums stand out as a completely unique and undeniably challenging experience. Although the original list of tracks from the game is very impressive, when it comes to the drums it is the first complete album that will be available for download that has me giddy with joy. The Who's "Who's Next" will undoubtly feature the abilities of one of the most legendary drummers of all time, Keith Moon/ Moon the Loon as he is often reffered to now by people who saw him put his skills to use in one of the greatest rock bands ever and read about his various binge drinking exploits can never have his abilities completely described. My dad has told stories of him playing complete sets of orchestral drums during the set, completely surrounded by metal and tightly pulled drum skins while crafting unbelievably beautiful music.. And from those stories I can just imagine myself, going haywire trying to keep up with him in Rock Bandonits expert level having the time of my life. I cant help but smile now whenever Im listening to a song that featuresgreat drumming because I know in a few months Ill have my own shot at it.
The only thing that I cant quite figure out is how heavy metal, especially more recent tunes will be done in the game as they usually feature an intese double baseline and from what Ive seen Rock Band is strictly single base so unless they intend to kill the feet ofits players they will either have to avoid songs with excessive double base altogether, use is sparringly or just say "Screw it" and watch as we grab ourcramped feet with tears in our eyes after trying to pound outsome crazy Slipknot song (say what you want about the overallband if you're not a fan but Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers alive right now, check him out on Youtube). Does this prospect dull me anticipation for this game though? Not a damn bit!
Peace
The title for thisjournal entry has nothing to do with the forcoming information.

Hey everyone...I know it's been a long time since I've even logged onto gamespot, but for good reason. I am no longer kyles_ducky...haven't been since Sept. 2005. And it's a good thing too...we just didn't seem to get along anymore.
In October 2005, I met my beau, Jeff and we've been together since. I wouldn't have even come on here if it wasn't for something being sent directly to my hotmail...I had over 300 messages to be read, and SO many offers to become leader/officer, and invites to join groups and I appreciate it. I don't want to get rid of this account because I'm at level 10, but in order for me to move on from my past, I must delete this account.
Thank you all,
My new GS account name is sweetie1986...please add me if you'd like. See you there!
