Almost a whole year!

Hey everybody.. I can't believe it's been almost a whole year since I've been active on this site! I am still alive, however, and lots of things have gone on. No big news though... I haven't relocated or gotten married or anything like that. A couple of months ago, I started volunteering at the local hospital, though, so I guess that's somewhat big. Oh, and I got a car last November! That's pretty good. It had been more than ten years since I had a car. But now I got one again.. It's a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. It's in really great shape and has low mileage. Well, I hope to be visiting some blogs soon and catching up with old friends! Cheers for now!

PSU vs. Irish

ELL, gang, today is the day of the Penn State vs. Notre Dame college football game, airing at 3:30pm EST on NBC I believe. So, for PSUIrishDave, who would I be rooting for? I might be like Brady Quinn's sister, who attended the Fiesta Bowl this year wearing a composite Notre Dame-Ohio State jersey, because although her brother is the star quarterback for the Irish, her boyfriend is the star defensive tackle for Ohio State! Imagine that.

All things considered, it's going to be a gridiron combat of apocalyptic proportion today! Well, not really. I'm rooting for the Irish though.

Checking in...

ELLO everybody! Long time no see... or, blog.. or something. I promised that I'd be checking in now and then... or at least I meant to promise. Anyway, so here I am, checking in. Not too much has been going on with me lately. I've just been doing the same thing as before: therapy and such. My television watching has basically been Doctor Who and the Weather Channel. I've been catching the 2nd Series of Doctor Who via downloading, because all American cable stations suck, with all the split screens, voiceovers, popups and station watermarks. There is no way I could get BBC television stations in the USA, so... the only recourse is to download. Man, I really like the writing and production these days!! This season's highlights I think are the Cybermen two-parter "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel".

Anyway, GOOD NEWS!! In case you hadn't read a previous blog I'd written about my little birdie Shamrock accidentally singing some of his tail feathers, that was back in March, I believe. He finally lost the last of the singed feathers in this molting season. Of course, Shammy has really no clue of any difference at all; he just goes about his business like before!

Take care everybody -- see you sometime soon.

Taking a leave...

REETINGS, one and all. You've already noticed that I've not been on much lately, and this is the new twist in the path of my life. I'm taking a leave until further notice from the sites. I will log on from time to time, perhaps once a week or something just to make sure the site hasn't exploded. I'm busying myself with some new endeavors that are taking my time away from here. So, for now I will tip my hat and bid you all a fond farewell. It has been awesome meeting so many great people!!! Keep things going!

Love always,

Irish Dave

Busy, Distracted, Exhausted, Busy...

HELLO everybody! I can't believe it's been about a week since I've written anything. The reason, however, is because I've been really preoccupied with lots of different things. I've found that my obsessive tendencies are showing themselves in true form -- while I should be putting my effort now on things that need to be done now, I instead have a one-track mind in working with things that need not be dealt with for another year. Simply put, I'm having major problems putting my priorities in place. The thing which makes this easy for me to do is that those future tasks are a lot more sweet to me than the boring things that are happening now. I've been really thinking a lot about moving back to Allentown, which will not happen until next June at the earliest. I just tend to get so stuck on that thought pattern that it's impossible to pry me off from them. I experience problems in that even little chores like laundry get pushed to the backburner, let alone big things like going to Church and journaling in blogs and commenting. It's really hard for me to just switch gears back to the way it was before, though. My usual way of solving a problem like this is to basically shut myself down for a day or so and "reboot" myself, basically. I just might have to do that for the sake of other important things like getting back to Church.

In other, more personal areas, a lot of people in my group therapy place think it's interesting that I use this site to do my journaling online. Most people there never heard the word "blog" before. They all have heard of, and even implement, journaling, in their lives. I mentioned that I can use this as a vehicle for letting off steam in a constructive way, and they really thought that was interesting. It's good as long as I'm trying to process and perhaps resolve some feelings of mine. Anyway, that's the story of my recent times. Thanks for reading! I promise I'll get back to my usual blopping regimen.

Greg Prato, I'm afraid you are a bit of a sociodork. You parrot along with lots of other people the same hackneyed monologue about how punk "replaced" prog rock, but you don't have a clue as to the difference between music and amusement. Friends of the musical community, Rick Wakeman is a musician against which a thousand punk rockers couldn't hope to stand. His skill and mastery of his own instrument far outshadows that of any punk rock star. If you are one to believe that all music is for the purpose of some kind of political agenda, turn off your stereo and join some movement of your choice. If you want to appreciate music for its own sake, listen to and watch Rick Wakeman.

Don't underestimate Musical Youth's ability to get into the surrendering tranquility of their art. The listener is all but taken over when putting themselves in Musical Youth's game. It's a great talent that they exhibit!

Perfect

Album Review

Hummingbird Rick Wakeman

This is generally a very great album. The compositions sound like a real collaboration between the two of them. The melodies are very fresh, yet brings you back to a simpler time in life, a time before the pomp and technical bombast that was symphonic prog rock. Don't get me wrong, that symphonic prog rock is wonderful stuff! Sometimes you feel an inner need to step back. This album does that. There are no drawbacks to the album, save perhaps that the folk-rock numbers like "The Great Pretender" and "All In Vain" do not meet up with the same heavenly standards set by all the other numbers on the album. Dave Cousins' voice is not a bad voice, as I once stated. It is very poetically expressive, absolutely perfect for the genre.

All in all, this album is worth getting into your collection, and it can grow on you even if you're not a Strawbs fan.

What means this? A Freudian dream, as it's explained, is that he dreams that his tool grows larger, and these girls capture it and put it into a guillotine.

There's no trouble understanding what it means to be a Freudian dream. I just can't wrap my brain around the idea that it's on a Rick Wakeman album.

"Country Sword Dance" is like Katachurian as a barefoot straw-chewing hoedown hillbilly. It pains me to have to listen to it. Fortunately for the technology of CD's and MP3's, I don't have to!

About Me

Hi, my name is David. My closest friends call me "Irish Dave." I was born in NYC and lived in Long Island, NY, and several parts of Pennsylvania. Now I live in Central PA, in State College, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. I'm a tallish type who hugs like a teddybear. I have a deep fondness for winged creatures of (almost) every kind. I have a pet cockatiel who's my little buddy. His name's Shamrock and he's the cutest little birdie ever. For now I'm mostly a TV.com user, so you may not see me here THAT much. I do however have a love and fascination with music, and I would say that music is a bigger part of my life than watching TV. I would like to use mp3.com more when I feel like I can actually DO more here than simply give my opinions on music. I do also like playing some games, like the MYST series.
