The Anguish of Nostalgia

The feeling is almost unbearable right now. I just randomly went back through every blog I ever created on this account. It really brought back memories, great, forgotten memories. It was interesting watching my horrible spelling habits progress into what they are now. It was enjoyable experiencing the Kim Possible era from my lost perspective. It was amusing watching my odd enthusiasm of a younger age. But it was also saddening, very saddening. My blog posts serve as a mere ghost of the past, a past that has been long abandoned by all but the fewest of us. This website has progressed so far, too far for most of us to keep a grasp on our illustrious past on this once-great website. We had so many antics, ones that seem downright foolish from a detached perspective. While the days of yesteryear will likely be forgotten by the vast majority of my old friends on here, the greatness that we had in those few years will forever be carried with me on my life's journey. Quite a remarkable realization, and all thanks to a sleepless mind on a cold, rainy night.

Merry Christmas to all.

Me - update

HI everyone!

Its been over a year since I was last on her and a LOT has changed.

Im now out of school and have started working.

I still watch Criminal Minds and Bones Im not that much of a Spencer Reid fan anymore (although he still is great!) Im really more into Hotch and Prentiss (I think they'd make a GREAT couple) and I stil LOVE B/B their great we might actually get what we want when it comes back for season 5. (I have my fingers crossed for both relationships)

I've started watching Jonas and Sonny with a Chance - Stella/Joe and Sonny/Chad are my favourite couples.

I still watch CSI now and then but prefer reruns because of the GSR aspects that I love to try and find.

I love reading as I always have but about four years now I got into Fanfiction and I have not looked back since. I go through phases where I love different types from differnt shows at the moment Im into H/P criminal minds fanfcition especially by sienna27 and Kavi Leighanna on Fanfiction.net.

I like trying to write my own but have only tried to put up a few as my brain tends to work faster than I can write/type and it takes me ages to write it all down.

I'll talk soon (atleast sooner than I did last time)

hmm...
I just re-watched the anime movie 5 cm Per Second, which is a beautiful work of fiction, at least if you ask me. It's, in very short terms, a movie about growing up and letting go of the past, and the sadness which may follow from not being able to do so. I don't know about you, but for me this is an important thing to have in mind. The reason is that I'm a particularly nostalgic person, and, well, I often wish things haven't changed, no matter how good they actually are now. Heck, I even get that feeling when watching longer anime series, or at the end of one; I just miss the way things were before, if you know. Of course, there is the matter of re-watching, but it's just a temporary escape.

Anyway, this closeness I have with the theme of the movie; this identifying with the main character is what has made this movie something very special for me; not as an anime or movie fan, but as a human.

As a treat for you, the movie's ending song; One more time, One more chance (is an actual music video and doesn't contain clips from the movie)

important avatar news

i just read on wikipedia that the writers are thinking about continuing after the third season with a new avatar and such. this is what i read and is directly from the page.

Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have also confirmed that a new series of Avatar, focusing on another incarnation of the character, is in the process of being made.

this is really big news and i (as i am sure all of you are) exicited for. and let us not forget the live action movie that is in the works.

On January 8, 2007, Paramount Pictures' MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies announced that they have signed M. Night Shyamalan to write, direct and produce a trilogy of live-action films based on the series; the first of these films will encompass the main characters' adventures in Book One.[ The film was in a dispute with James Cameron's film Avatar regarding title ownership, which resulted in the film being titled The Last Airbender. It is set for release on July 2, 2010. Filming will begin in Philadelphia in May 2009, and it will be shot in Greenland.

Avatar co-creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have come forward to voice their opinion within an interview regarding M. Night Shyamalan writing, directing and producing the film. The two displayed much enthusiasm over Shyamalan's decision for the adaptation, stating that they admire his work and, in turn, he respects their material

now i have no idea when this stuff will happen or come out, but what i do know is that avatar is not yet over

Orthography: The Lost Art

Forgive me, Father, for I am about to rant about something totally stupid and pointless that won't change just because I have a problem with it. But I'll do it anyway, because I'm bored. What can I say? I'm a writer, not a Saint.

Those of you who have followed my blog and forum posts over the past year know that I frown upon spelling and grammar errors. They bother me like nothing else. Like anything, there's a reason for that.

See, I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I was diagnosed when I was 7, and I'm still taking medication for it to this day. I've learned to use it to my advantage, and I don't view it as a disability but rather an opportunity. Still, it can cause the stupidest of things to bug me.

Orthography (correct spelling and grammar) is one example of this, and the one I wish to discuss today. Whenever I come across a passage with frequent spelling and/or grammar errors, I literally cannot concentrate unless I block those errors out somehow. One little typo I can excuse, but not when the passage is riddled with them. At that point I just stop reading.

What bother me the most are not the errors themselves, but rather the people who don't seem to care enough to fix them when I point them out. The ones that really get to me are the people who act like I've made a personal attack against them even though I was considerate enough to PM them about it rather than calling them out on the forums.

While various rulers over the years have implemented various forms of government, the one group that has always existed despite the efforts of countless teachers and education systems is the Idiocracy. Those people who refuse to learn the basic skills needed to function as intelligent members of society. They are not necessarily stupid, just ignorant. Though in many cases the latter can lead to instances of the former.

I've always found it highly ironic that the people who need to be reading these things are always the ones who don't. That's why my throwing a fit over human stupidity won't make people any smarter. But it will make me feel better, if only for a few moments.

To close, I'd like to address several common errors that I come across practically every day, as well as some fun facts that not many people know. With any luck, this will be an educational experience to a few of you. I encourage you to spread these wherever you go online.

1. "Loose" versus "Lose." This is an example of a typo so common that it's practically replaced the correct spelling of the word. They are both words, but the former is used in place of the latter so often I want to pull my hair out when I see it. The key to telling the difference between them is the sound of the "s" in each. "Loose" has a traditional "s" sound, while the one in "lose" sounds more like a "z."

I think the confusion may stem from the similarity of the two words to "choose" and "chose." The endings are practically the same, but they follow different rules. "Choose" and "chose" are the present and past tense versions of the same verb, whereas "loose" and "lose" have two completely different meanings.

2. "Definitely" versus "Definately." Another example of an all-too-common typo that's slowly overtaking the correct word. The confusion is probably the result of people pronouncing it "def-i-nuht-lee" instead of "def-i-nit-lee," and mistaking the "uh" sound for an "a," rather than an "i."

3. "Compliment" versus "Complement." The former means words of encouragement, while the latter refers to two things that go well together. I see the first one used in place of the second way too often.

4. "Okay" versus "OK" versus "ok." One of these is incorrect. Can you tell me which one? If you said anything but, "The last one," you're wrong. It's okay to shorten OK to two letters as long as you capitalize both of them.

5. "Blond" versus "Blonde." Both of these are correct. However, the former is used in reference to males, while the latter refers to females. To use two characters from the show Kim Possible as an example, Ron is blond and Tara is blonde. This is one of those lesser known quirks of the English language, and something that bothers me every time I see it used incorrectly.

6. "Whoa" versus "Woah." While the first term is the correct one, the second is the one I see most often, even in professional works. It's also one of the most annoying.

7. "Insure" versus "Ensure." The former means to cover one's losses, while the latter means to make sure of something. Not very many people know the second one exists.

And finally, a fun little tidbit that has practically nothing to do with what I talked about today:

8. Contrary to popular belief, the plural of "moose" actually is "meese." If you look it up, though, about eighty percent of the places you go to will tell you that the plural of "moose" is still "moose." This is because it's another case of where the error is so common that it's almost completely replaced the correct word.

I hope you all learned something today.

What Time Is It? Summer Time Fun!

Technically, school actually let out for the summer a few weeks ago, but it feels like summer is just now starting for me. Compared to last summer (which involved me spending half of my vacation break touring Europe and the other half touring the rest of the U.S.) this summer is going to be pretty laid back and easy.

I recently got surgery on my neck (nothing major but, yuck, I hate surgery) so now I'm just chillaxing in my PJ's and talking to friends on the phone and on the computer all day. My friends are so sweet, doing whatever they can to make sure I'm comfortable while I'm recovering. A ton of my friends just came back from a school sponsered trip to Washington D.C., so we're probably going to have awelcome back party soon! I love parties so that should be awesome!

In about a month my family's going to take a well deserved vacation to the sunny beaches of Florida. So we're visiting Miami for a few days then Orlando to ride on all the fun rides at the theme parks and tour around Universal Orlando Studios. The last time I went I was seven, so I'm really looking forward to it!

Then we're heading back home, and a few weeks later we're off to Niagara Falls! I've never been there before, so I'mway excited! And if I have enough time, I might head down to California to visit a few friends in LA and Sacramento on my own! Yays!

And I've got a ton of things to look forward to this summer, like High School Musical 2 preimering in August (is anyone else uber ecstatic about the fact that Zac and Vanessa finally and officially hooked up this spring?!), Harry Potter (the book and the movie!) is coming out and the new season of one of my favorite shows ever, Degrassi: The Next Generation is starting this June!

Of course, some things are coming to an end this summer, like Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, which ended just last weekend ! I loved that show to death! And the last Harry Potter book coming out this summer (and we'll finally find out whether J.K. Rowling decided to kill Harry off or not) and the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which I saw, cried over, and loved to death!

Anyway, tons to look forward to this summer and I'm all set to have a wonderful time! Here's to a great summer! Hope yours is just as fabulous as mine!

400/ Exams

I won't be on alot because my exams are starting soon and I need to study . I think this might be my last blog for the next few weeks, I'll probably only post a blog if something really important comes up, or if I'm really bored and have nothing to do. I will be on everyday to check my mail, and maybe even post in a blog or two.

Well on a brighter note, a couple of minutes ago I realized that I have 408 friends on my list. Whoohoo!!!

Hi

Hi, I haven't written a blog in a while now.  My life has been great lately.  I've been doing better in school, making lots of new friends and joining clubs.  So how is everybody else doing?

Here's a song.  I haven't posted one is a long time.

Tangled Up In Blue (by Bob Dylan)

Early one mornin the sun was shinin,
I was layin in bed
Wondrin if shed changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like mamas homemade dress
Papas bankbook wasnt big enough.
And I was standin on the side of the road
Rain fallin on my shoes
Heading out for the east coast
Lord knows Ive paid some dues gettin through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out west
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
Well meet again someday on the avenue,
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to new orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin for a while on a fishin boat
Right outside of delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
Is just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, dont I know your name?
I muttered somethin underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
I thought youd never say hello, she said
You look like the silent type.
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin coal
Pourin off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on montague street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now Im goin back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
Theyre an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenters wives.
Dont know how it all got started,
I dont know what theyre doin with their lives.
But me, Im still on the road
Headin for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

Whoever invented forums, GOOD JOB!
I just love the way people interact on forums. It's a community like none other (perhaps with the exception of instant messaging, but that's not the point here)

Forums open people up to other people. My site is what it is today due to the (almost) religious visits from forum peeps and suggestions from forum people. So, DUR thanks you for making it what it is today, and I proudly bear the claim that the site is made by the fans for the fans. A bit of a cliche, but who's caring?

To all my subscribers on TV.com, thanks also. And to all my complimenters, Thank you as well. It is heartwarming to see such support and comments of what i do and it is precisely this, and only this, that motivates me and my staff to bring DUR to new heights daily.

Ah well, I guess i'll leave it here for now. See you all next post!
