Workers on Strike ...

Now whether you are from Toronto, Canada or whatever, you can read on because this is a post meant to be about worker strikes in general.

Below is an article I wrote and after editing it, will be submitting to my Local Paper, I am fed up with workers going on strikes. A few months ago the TTC went on strike, for a day and inconvienced the majority of the people in Toronto. Before that the buses went on strike, before that some other form of transportation went on strike. Well you get the point, people contstantly go on strike. Now I understand that you don't always get a great deal when your working, but hell ... your not going to get much better of a deal if you hold out for a month. What do people honestly hope to achieve by rallying supporters by standing outside their place of work? Do people not understand the problems and inconviences they have caused?

Why Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Is it really that hard for people to get along? In today’s modern world, it seems like the most impossible thing to do is work side by side with each other. We as humans always undermine our enemies, our co-workers, our friends even our own flesh and blood.

Since October 5, 2006 at 6:00 PM Eastern Time the Canadian Auto Workers for the Durham Transit has been on strike. The drivers, stand outside the Go Station with their “On Strike” signs, waving to all the people who pass through. What they don’t seem to realize is that they are hated just as much as anyone else involved in this mess. People living in Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa and Clarington have been inconvenienced, and many of them are within walking distance of their breaking points.

A few days ago, an unidentified Ajax man was walking out of the Ajax Go Station in the pouring rain. He began to curse at the CAW (Canadian Auto Workers) who were camped out there. Whether they heard him or not, the fact remains that some people are quite angry about this strike and are beginning to express their opinions. Our greatest fear should be that this will escalate farther than we can handle. It is not that far off where damage that cannot be repaired will occur, someone can realistically end up getting hurt. If this strike continues for another week or two there is a high possibility that the former riders of the Durham Transit will be at a point where they will not be able to control themselves or others.

I, like many others urge both sides of this conflict to start talking with each other. Of course, that is easier said than done. However, the issues are right in front of you and in no way is it an easy problem to solve, but that’s expected. Both the DRT and the CAW have expressed what exactly they want. A very generous offer was given to the CAW by the DRT which has yet to be accepted. However, what both sides must remember is that the most important thing in this issue is the riders, because they are the people who pay to take your buses. The 30 000 plus daily riders are pleading to you; please stop this strike before it is too late.

I will end by saying that nothing is being solved by the CAW standing out there with their “On Strike” signs and nothing is being solved by anything else that is being done by either side. Someone has to step up and get some negotiations going. Perhaps, the old contract could be renewed, for 30 days as a temporary solution while talks continue. That is just one idea, it would work, but that’s up to the DRT and the CAW to decide as to whether or not they want to save their companies reputation and their jobs because if this continues for any longer the DRT will not be trusted for a long time and without trust, ridership numbers will drop. Which means less money will be made. It is clear how this affects the DRT, but how does this affect the CAW? Simple, if your employer is not making a whole lot of money, what is the most expandable expense? You Are.

3 New Games! Yay! More on the Way! Yay!

Yay, well I just got home from work ... gotta do a bit of French homework, but well I figured I got time to do a quick update.

However, before I do that ... my new name is Martin ... Weird, Everyone is calling me that at work now .. oh well, it could be worse.

Anyways, today I went and picked up 3 games for a total of $25.05 Canadian and they are ...

MGS 2 - 7.99 (ps2) ... never had the privledge of playing it ... I can't wait

Freedom Fighters (ps2) - 8.99 ... played it once, was really fun ... heard its awsome.

Smackdown Original (ps1) - 5.99 ... never played it, but heard its great and a game I really want to play.

ALSO, on the way ... I have several Ebay purchases coming (3) including the one I bought last night which included 9 games, which came to a total of 54 bucks, for the games ... shipping and insurance. Which was a sweet deal. They are all ps1 games, but still, got some favorite games of mine (Driver 1, Driver 2) ... some games I've heard are fun (Crash Bandicott, etc.) and some other games that seem fun (Sypro the dragon, etc.)

By the way, got perfect on my history essay, made this genius kid jealous. He got one mark off and didn't believe I got perfect. When I showed him my essay, he scanned it looking for mistakes ... I said,. "good luck finding any" ... and in reality it was a great essay.

Got an English test back, got 48/56 on that ... not bad, but not great.

Thats about it for now, peace mates.

Flight of The Roller Coaster

Well you guys liked my last poem, so heres another one. Hope you enjoy!

Picking up speed, Coaster’s rising to the top
Only moments again you had protested hate for the ride
Didn’t want to go, but refused to admit your fear
Much to your dismay, you agreed to go one time around
You hesitated; thought something might go wrong

Coaster was following the normal track, getting close to it’s peak
Half afraid, half in awe you look down towards the ground
You quickly look away, wishing you never looked
Repeating to yourself that all it’s only
A casual Roller-Coaster ride – you try not to look afraid,
But inside your heart is pounding like a jackhammer
You wait for the final drop
-Nothing

You hear the usual screams, the normal cries
Wishing that the ride would end
That the torment would stop
-Nothing

Something wrong, this isn’t how the ride is meant to run
Looking to your side, front and back
You’re flying through the air, losing no height
Panicking, you enter a state of shock

You pass over bumper cars, just under the welcome banner
To the left of the Ferris wheel, to right of the Go Karts
Last witnesses recall, a coaster soaring through the air
The screams of the people aboard, a splash, even louder screams
Then silence was born
-Nothing more

Cliffhanger

Howdy, thought I would share a poem with ya'll. I don't remember when I wrote it. Hope you enjoy it, though its not that good.

The sun has set, light has gone away
Open fields I am passing through on this day
Alone I walk with my thoughts
One man attempting to untangle life’s knots

Lost in my head, I continued to walk
A couple hours passed, I began to refocus
Looking around I had no luck
Where I was I did not know
I was lost, with no where to go

Hope leaving me, only a fragment remained
After a moment, Northward I trekked
Towards familiar ground I campaigned
I was moving quickly, myself I did not pace

I came to a dead stop
Standing there admiring the depth
Of a cliff that stood so high
Just being near it made me feel like I could touch the sky

I contemplated going up
I said fifty feet or so would be enough
It was a once in a lifetime chance, plus it needed wear
I knew I was never going to find anything like this elsewhere

The rugged cliff I decided to climb
Confident that everything would be just fine
With ease I made it up thirty feet or so
How high the cliff was, I did not know

It was the greatest thing to me
My most treasured memory it would be
Lost in the moment, my grip I lost
My life, this mistake would cost

Crashing to the ground in screams of pain
Blood was flowing along side the rain
I was sure that I was going to die
But just then, my life flashed before my eyes

I had grown so much in so little time
I tried to believe that I would be fine
People I loved had always came through
Though I knew no one was coming,
It was my struggle, my barrier to breakthrough

I tried to move, I must’ve been insane
The pain showed no signs of letting up
Looking up at the sky I found hope
I knew that for an hour I could cope

The grass in the fields began to sway
I was confident that I would be okay
Pink was splashed all over the sky
I was sure, that today was not my day to die

I climbed the rugged stone stair,
Of life’s harsh pathway,
Like all humans do, I lost my grip
Fell as far as anyone could
Looking down at where my body laid
I gained a lot, but not just scars of my suffered pain
But scars of hope and remembrance of this day.
