A black and white glance at Nintendo's consoles
NES= BY THE POWER OF MY MIGHTY CONTROL PAD I WILL ELIMINATE THIS ATARI TIRENY AND TAKE ALL THE CREDIT FOR EVERYTHING KNOWN TO MAN!!! I AM THE ALMIGHTY NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM!
SNES= I am the most powerful AND affordable console!!!
N64= I AM THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE ON EARTH!!! (But I use an old format limiting my capabilities dramatically *is embarassed*)
Gamecube= Yeah, Im a nintendo console. I dont need to prove myself to YOU!
Wii= Okay im sorry for being so sure of myself! I'll change now.....DO you like mini game collections?
Wasn't that fun gang? ![]()
Wow, first blog in AGES. Its a one off though, to whoever the hell is reading (y)
Bring on E3 and its mediocre announcements!
Merry Chirstmas guys!
Got my PS3 and I must say im rather happy with it, sure it looks like a george foreman grill and weighs a ton but resistance and Motorstorm are rather lovely and should hold me over until the killer apps come out next year. I also got mighty boosh tickets too ^^
So merry christmas to all and to all a good night ![]()
I am such a pathetic loser...
Ive actually got a PS3 for christmas mainly on the basis on future promise, but things arent looking good at all. If things do go from bad to worse please, for the sake of my parents money, make many exclusive arcade-perfect ports of great capcom and SNK beat em ups and brilliant, era-defining titles that also remain sleeper hits for the sake of my elitist mind, in a similar vein to the Sega Saturn. Oh wait, arcades are dead so the first one is out of the window...:/
Thank you please!
P.S: Merry Christmas to all!
P.P.S: Im doing a top 10 albums ive bought this year blog soon, probably when I decide to write something worthwhile...
P.P.P.S: Mario Galaxy is amazing!
P.P.P.P.S: Im getting a Wii Zapper too, cant forget the Wii. Placing a pre-order for Smash Bros Brawl and MGS4 too next week.
Long time no blog...
Riiiggghhhtttt, so I havent been on here in ages. A lots gone on in the last 3 months or so, most notably college (which is fookin' awesome!). For the first time im with a group of people that arent a bunch of chavs or just vile gits. Ive also bought orange box and I instantly nominate Portal for GOTY...until Mario Galaxy comes out of course ^^
SO yeah, not really much else to talk about game-wise. Well, its my birthday next wednesday and I still need to get Phantom Hourglass and Metord Prime 3 before the year ends.. After Mario Galaxy of course ^^
Oh and ive blown caution to the wind and decided to get a PS3 for christmas as I dont feel like paying extra for online support (Remember kids, games are about fun and not bragging rights *cough* Xbox Live*cough*. Sorry 360 owners XD) and want MGS4 soooo badly!
xx
My Top 5 PC games of al time!
Wow, havent done a blog in a month! UPDATE TIME! A lot has happened since I went to see the Transformers and Simpsons movie such as:
* Getting a PSP ![]()
* Getting my GCSE results![]()
* Partying! ![]()
* My rabbit died ![]()
* Got a new rabbit ![]()
* Discussed forming a band and resulted in me becoming singer/songwriter! (Note to self: dont write any dreary, boring indie love songs or screamo ditties)
Right onto the main feature! I intended on posting this a few months ago but my browser was playing up and wouldnt let me post anything longer than 500 characters for some strange reason. I chose to do a Top 5 PC games one as opposed to a Top 5 console one because I haven't had that many good PC experiences as money and configuration over-confuses the process of PLAYING A GAME! The majority of the time PC gaming is more trouble than its worth and seeing as I use a family PC I can't afford to mess about with the internals but here's the games that have really stood out and forced me to remain glued to this uncomfortable desk chair:
The games (in no particular order)
1. Broken Sword
Best story in a PC game ever imo! this game blew me away when I first got it as a youngster and still plays like a dream. A pity the more recent ones were so dull ![]()
2. Battlefield 2
Incrediablely versitile FPS! With the breath of a game like far cry, the intensity of a game like UT and management and squad-leading of Rainbow Six (a game I never really liked tbh) this just did it all right! Oh and for the record I thought the console version and BF2142 sucked balls
3. Starcraft
I loved this upon release and still feel the same way now. For some reason though im not looking forward to the sequel at all...Looks like its trying to be empire at war or something like that tbh.
4. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Im not really a splinter cell fan, so when I got this at a budget price just before christmas last year I wasnt expecting much. Then I discovered the Co-Op mode, oh the joy! The single player mode had left me tired and frustrated but the co-op resulted in me playing the game with my friend (who got a copy the same day as me with co-op in mind) into the wee hours of the morning.
5. Sims 2
Make boys kiss boys, make girls kiss girls. Nuff said...
Now here's the PC games that are really wheting my appetite:
Half life Episode 2
This is the defenition of value for money! Portal intrigues me, Team fortress 2 looks awesome and it also includes HL2 and HL epsode one ![]()
Sam and Max Season One
Loved the original amiga game as a kid and can't wait for this collection of games originally released as download only titles.
Crysis
Seriously want this game, doubt my PC will handle it...
Spore
*DROOLS!*
GOODBYEEEEEEEE!
Summary of Yesterday
Yesterday was awesome, saw both Transformers and Simpsons Movie. Transformers was so good that it made me forget that Michael Bay is such a silly director.
I didnt bother getting any of the games like I intended on getting in my last blog, but still intend to do so within the next week or so.
Also, a friend of my friend asked me to go out with her. I rejected but got her mobile number anyways =]
Tomorows plans:
First of all i'll be going to see The Simpsons Movie AND Transformers tomorow, one after the other. I will make a blog giving my thoughts on them both. Heck, maybe even full-blown reviews!
Then i'm off to my local Game store to get either Phoenix Wright or God of War, then put a pre-order down for Metroid Prime 3!
Well, at least its something to do in the mundane part of the year known as the '6 week holidays' (5 weeks for some hehe)
GOODNIGHT!
Games I'm partial to purchasing over the Summer holidays *EDIT*
Right, here's the games I hope to get over the next month or so and i'd like some input from my fellow bloggers. SO far i'm thinking of getting:
Wii:
Red Steel OR Excitetruck: Ive always wanted to try out these games but didn't want to pay £40 for the 'priveledge'. Now that both are avaliable in my local Gamestation store at £25 each I think i'll go for it.
PS2:
God of war and Dragon Quest 8: Underestimated how good God of war really was until I played it over at my friends house a few months ago and i've beeen meaning to get round to Dragon Quest 8 for a while.
DS:
Now this is where i'm open to suggestions, I was thinking of getting Phoenix Wright or Starfox Command but i'm not entirely sure. Suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks =]
YUSH!! I GOT A GOLD E3 EMBLEM! BEAT THATE for All!
Y'know, E for All (the TRUE sucessor to E3, open to the public) in october may also be a cheeky little oppourtunity for developers and publishers to hold another prress conference and show off even more stuff!
The new E3 structure has been abysmally boring, lets hope E for All is much better
Nintendo no-shows at E3...
As anybody else been wondering what's happened to 'Disaster: Day of crisis' and 'Project H.A.M.M.E.R'? I was hoping they'd have appeared in some form...
Nintendo's Press Conference= Epic but reserved
Sony's Press Conference=Epic but predictable
Microsoft's Press Conference= Arrogantly over-confident...
I am currently= Tired
Goodnight!
I need a job...
AND NINTENDO'S E3 CONFERENCE. 4PM is a perfect time but I have to wait sooo long! ![]()
Have a jolly day!
Capcom VS Konami
Over at Gametrailers.com they've had an interesting little vote scheme to which of the 2 gaming between Konami and Capcom are best. But instead of having single-sided 'vote now and leave' scheme' they've set it up so that you can vote on their performance throughout each generation. From 8-bit to arcade to current gen here's who I voted for:
8-bit: Konami
Konami without a doubt! Contra and TMNT say it all for me and my favorite video game series of all time, Metal Gear, was born here. Even if I'm not a fan of the NES metal gear games (especially Snakes Revenge) Konami's offerings were so much more stable and more special than 6 unforgivingly hard mega man sequels in the space of 5 years...
Arcade: Capcom
Ouch its a VERY hard choice on the arcade front considering that Konami have TMNT, the ONLY great Simpsons game in history and DDR but Capcom were seemingly more revolutionary with Final Fight and Street Fighter 2. For now i've chose Capcom solely because Konami got my vote for the 8-bit generation.
16 bit: Konami
Capcom were pretty poor in terms of console games yet again in my opinion. Sure their SNES conversion of Street Fighter 2 blew me away, Mega Man X was actually a forgiving mega man game to play and thats about it. The SNES version of Final Fight was lacking so many features and I never really liked Strider or any of their other titles around at that time. Konami on the other hand just rolled out hit-after-hit with Gradius 3, Super Contra and Super Castlevania raising the roof from the very start of the SNES's life and keeping up the same performance until the very end. Outside of the SNES their Mega Drive (Genesis) games just blossomed with new, hardware-pushing Contra and Castlevania games. They also released Snatcher for the Sega CD, Hideo Kojima's new title and one of the most cinematic games ever at the time. Konami are clear winnders ![]()
32/64 bit: Konami
No doubt Konami win here for many reasons. Like the 16 bit era, Capcom had a few very significant milestone achievements, this time in the form of Resident Evil but not many good games whereas Konami just kept rolling them out. I mean, Metal Gear Solid made stealth games and briliant storytelling acceptable in modern gaming, then theres Silent Hill which relies on more physchological horror techniques in order to engage the player rather than just have cheap unpolished thrills. Don't get me wrong Capcom released some neat games at this time but I always saw them as uneventful compared to what Konami was doing at the time. Oh and Hybrid Heaven is one of the best N64 games I ever played, just a pity tracking down a copy is so hard these days, it's also aged pretty badly as well...
Last-Gen: Capcom
Whilst Konami did the obvious and released sequel after sequel of their hit games, Capcom took a lot more chances this time and from the very launch of the PS2 they innovated. Starting with Devil May Cry and Onimusha Capcom showed us all that they were capable of creating some of the most amazing games of that time, creating so much yet asking for so little in return. Games like Okami (which I haven't played yet), Killer7 and Viewtiful Joe stand out significantly as original and innovative games but also giving us the best installments in the Resident Evil series with Resi 4 and Code Veronica. Konami may have had Metal gear Solid 2 (by far my favourite game ever of that time) but Capcom were doing so much more.
Current Gen: Konami
So far Capcom seem to have dipped off a little bit and Konami regained some flair. So far the likes of Dead Rising and Lost Planet haven't been particuarly inventive and are basically just been the same as what everybody else is doing, with their main future titles being nothing more than highly anticipated sequels . In all honestly Konami doesn't seem to be that much different but, from a personal point, I am looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4 a lot more than either Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 and Eledees (Elebits) has showed that they are still capable of creating neat innovative titles. It's still too early to tell who the definet winner is but so far I think konami is in the lead.
Handheld: Capcom
Phoenix Wright and Street Fighter Alpha 3...'Nuff said ![]()
Overall: Konami
I always liked what Konami have been doing and never doubted their biggest games like I did with Capcom's Mega Man and early Resident Evil titles. No doubt that both are amazing developers and publishers but Konami truly does it for me
My thoughts on Eledees (Elebits):
Basically this game is absolutely awesome and a real challaenge...provided you play it in short bursts every now and again. First of all the fact that the game revolves around throwing items around a house, street or theme park is great fun in itself and always fun to come back to...Like almost every game on the Wii...
One highlight of the game is definetly the Edit mode which allows you to create your own scenarios within each of the levels you unlock whilst playing, you can even send them to friends with WIiconnect24 ![]()
Overall is it worth it? Well, if you're not expecting a huge scale gamewith an in depth story (this does have a story but also wins the award for worst voice acting ever!). So pick it up if you like neat little experimental first person games.
Power, Corruption and Lies...
Does anybody else like New Order, I know I do ![]()
I've been listening to them an awful lot everywhere! At home, my mates house, all over. 80's ELECTRO POP FTW!
Another Day Another Post (No moaning this time I swear)
First of all i'd like to apologise for sounding like a whiney cow, it's just these changes seem really pointless and are just little things that I find really irritating on the site. Ok now thats out of the way its time for a PROPER blog post ![]()
This time I have decided to do a blog on my top 5 PC games but the irritating flaws the new changes have raised their ugly haed, forcing me to re-format every nook and cranny of my post so i'm gonna sort it all out then post it.
Watch this space lol
Oh and I cant wait for the Shadowrun demo! (if they're even is one)
I think i'm gonna stop coming on here:
Honestly, Its not you guys either. Its these damn admins and their pisstake excuse to 'make Gamespot a better place'
GOODNIGHT!
What. The. Hell!?
Erm....Rate this comment? WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT TO THIS!?
Is this a very late april fools joke or have the Gamespot admins had their braincells removed?
This feature is absolutely pointless, then it says 'this message did not meet the criteria of the topic, click to view'. OF COURSE IT DIDN'T BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY THINKS EVERYBODY ELSE IS RIGHT!!! Christ Gamespot what the hell...
My Top 10 consoles of all time!
This is my list of the consoles that have destroyed my social life, let me loose for a short while before dragging me back in for more gaming! Bear in mind these are the consoles I have owned. Excluding the Amiga 500 because it isnt a console and the Atari Jaguar because it just sucked. I would have also included the Dreamcast if I had actually owned one, so heres my list: Enjoy!
10.) Gamecube: The false prophet.
Personally, I thought this console was incredably underwhelming in many ways: first of all it didn't feel like a nintendo console. The polish and spit which nintendo are well known for was dramatically missing from this console and its games, passing it off as a purple playstation in the eyes of many a nintenerd (like myself and ones with BRAINS). Dont get me wrong, it had some killer games and the ONLY good resident evil game ever released, its just a shame Nintendo didn't show off more of the console before the Wii pushed it to the side...
9.) Nintendo DS: Lets touch!
I dont really know what to say about the DS, I know its great, I know its a casual alternative to the GBA and PSP and I know its current mainstream audience is 40 year old housewives petting dogs and training their brains. Its a little bit fruity yet has Mario Kart online! My dream for the 5 years prior to the release of Mario Kart DS came when Nintendo finally pulled its head out of the sand and delivered some Wi-Fi goodies! Just a pity they've stuck their heads back in.
8.) Gameboy: Dot matrix awesomeness!
Which Gameboy am I covering you may ask. The Game boy colour? GBA? GBASP!? GBA MICRO!?!?!? Nope, the original breezeblock black and white dot matrix screen beauty that ensured no matter where I was I could fight exploding koopa troopers, shift blocks to get a perfect 4 or catch' em all. The most successful handheld console ever and rightly so seeing as all other non-nintendo handhelds have a battery life of 5 hours maximum.
7.) NES: The one that saved gaming from an early grave.
Oh the mighty NES! Its duty is the equilavent of the allies in World War 2, only with less nazis and more ducks! If any sole console deserves the reputation as the 'freedom fighter' its this beast. Mario 3, Contra, Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, so many classics that still stand the test of time despite looking like absolute ****. I was born into a family who allready owned this console so I had instant access to it (or would have if 3 week old babies could play games) and thus I just played and had fun, no questions asked. This leaves me with one question, if atari were nazis (harsh but fair lol) and Nintendo were american allies does that make Sega communist? I'll shut up now...
6.) Sega Mega Drive (Genesis): A poor mans SNES with a blue hedgehog.
I guess my bias look towards sega has kicked in again. Being a Nintendo kid I would have done anything to personally make sure that the mega drive lost the 16 bit console war, then I bought one a few years after on the cheap and realised i'd missed out on so much...First of all I allways saw Sonic as a dull lifeless excuse to sell the console, then I finally played it throughly and was amazed at some of the things it achieved like multi layered routes and 'balst processing' speed that would make mario sick to the guts. IMO it was and still is poor compared to the SNES but thats not a bad thing!
5.) PS2:
This basically took the PS1 and made it better in every way! And who would argue? So many classic games and many of the same games as the Xbox only with a better controller. The great thing about the PS2 is no doubt the games, taking all the good franchises from the PS1 and making them dramatically better in every way (except for tomb raider of course). The graphics are ageing a little bit now but I'll still have the memories (and a spare DVD player in case I throw my other away in 10 years time!)
4.) Wii: How can such a new console be so far up on my list!?
Because it has so much potential thats why. Sure in terms of processing and multi-layered polygonal pixel-shading gizmodic frams per second(?) its like comparing a mini cooper to a ferarri enzo (except even an enzo is better value than a PS3, OH SNAP!). In terms of games its currently laking massively even compared to the PS3, it has the most dissapointing and boring zelda game as a launch title (personal opinion get over it Jeff haters) and the Virtual Console is just an absolute swindle (£10 for Mario Kart 64!?) but it all points to better things for the games industry rather than just seeing the likes of GTA 7 and Gran Tursimo 9 as the future. Oh and for the record, the Wii is only hated by fat HD nerds ![]()
3.) PS1: Made gaming mainstream (but for the better or worse?)
As a kid I had a choice between 2 new fangled consoles: Sega Saturn or Playstation? Well, seeing as the Playstation was £100 cheaper, wasnt made by sega and had more bearable graphics it was a no brainer. I played my first real 3D games on this system and enjoyed countless hours of Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider and many more. This console is so big my grandparents usually call video game outlets 'the playstation shop'. Thats when it strikes you how big gaming ahs become because of this grey box (go away nintendo i'm not talking about you...)
2.) N64: IT'S A ME! MARIO!
When I first saw clips of Mario 64 I literally wet myself on the spot as no game at the time looked so accomplished in 3D. The controller was so intriguing I thought the analogue stick was a microphone. I was even amazed by the fact it had 4 controller ports for crying out loud! Its home to some of my favourite games of all time besides mario 64 such as Paper Mario, Goldeneye, Lylat Wars, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Blast Corps, Wave Race 64, I could go on. The use of cartrides may have reduced the size of games and omitted the fancy FMV cutscenes a game so heavily relies on today but it had no loading times, no fuzzy textures and was by far the best console for multiplayer games until the likes of Xbox live made its way into homes. It looked awesome too, pervious Nintendo consoles looked quite pansyish but this looked hard as nails! I'm quite glad it wasnt as successful as the PS1, otherwise it would have recieved the same amount of crap games that did.
1.) Mode 7, Super FX and Super Mario World. nuff said
This took the NES and made everything super about it! Not better, SUPER! Right from the start the SNES looked and sounded the business with brilliant sound capabilities and amazing graphics. The amazing thing about the SNES is that when Sega released the Sega CD, SNES owners were treated to Stwarwing (starfox to many) which proved how needless CD technology was at that time. Then when The 32X was released Nintendo released Donkey Kong Country which looked like a CGI movie! Sure it didnt have the fatalities the Mega Drive version of Mortal Kombat had and it looked childish compared to its rivals, but its what was on the inside what really counted and for a console that literally killed 2 rival add-ons its further proof how special the SNES is in general. I haven't even gone in-depth with the games yet either! It was the best place for RPGS with the likes of Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3 (6) and Super Mario RPG making the Phantasy star series look like utter pants. On the side scroller side it had Super Probotector (Contra 3, DAMN EUROPEAN NAME CHANGES!), Super Castlevania IV, Super Metroid, Krusty's Super Fun House (?) and all the mario series of games on one cartridge with Mario All-Stars! It had its fair share of racers that put Ourtun and such to shame with F-Zero and Super Mario Kart showing off the SNES' superior power right from the start. Theres no doubt without this I would have become a casual gamer, thus making it my number 1 console of all time!!!
Is Democracy dying?
This video is absolutely incredable and believe me when I say it isnt ANY anti-bush or anti-american propaganda
