Legal or Illegal?

My friend told me about these NES emulators and ROMs and he has a few NES ROM games on his computer. Now I know it's illegal but what if use NES ROMs? Like what I'm asking is the NES doesn't produce anymore games so could I get a ROM for games that I've never played on the NES legally? Thanks for answering my question!

Unless you own the actual cartridge of said game, it is considered illegal to have a ROM copy of it. Even if the NES is being made anymore, some of it's games are re-released in next-gen remakes or simply released thru XBOX Live or Wii Console.

It's actually technically illegal to have NES roms even if you do own the original cartridge. The loophole Nintendo uses is that you are entitled to back up a game you personally own, but that doesn't mean it's OK for you to go on the internet and download someone else's personal backup. It's even worse on the suppliers end; posting your copy online for countless others to download is a blatant violation.
