The programmes I grew up with
So...i'm feeling a little nostalgic and i've been searching youtube for themes etc. for the shows I used to watch when i was younger - and I feel soooo old!
I didn't realise until now just how much television I used to watch! Looking at them now I wanna be a kid again and be able to watch the episodes. I feel so sorry for children nowadays because I don't consider the present programmes to be anywhere near as good as those I watched, so they're missing out!
Here's a list of some of the programmes I watched "back in the day":
Cartoons/animated:
Alivin & The Chipmunks
Animals of Farthing Wood
Rupert the Bear
Noah's Island
The Raccoons
Funnybones
Count Duckula
Raggydolls
Rocko's Modern Life
Hey Arnold!
Recess (I know this is still on)
Astro Farm
Pocket Dragons
Sesame Street
Sooty & Sweep
Ripley and Scuff
Thomas the Tank Engine
Superted
Sharkey & George
Zzzap
Playdays
Wizardora
Rosie & Jim
Fireman Sam
Penny Crayon
Tots Tv
The Trap Door
Dinosaurs
Fraggle Rock
Transylvania Pet Shop
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Dappledown Farm - I used to sneak downstairs very early in the morning and watch it with a slice of bread (I wasn't actually capable of buttering it!!)
I think i'll stop there! I miss being a kid, there was nothing to worry about and life was so easy - but I didn't realise it back then!
So...a new list, programmes I watched when I was older, on Nickelodeon and the like:
Sabrina the Teenage Witch (I prefer the earlier episodes)
Are You Afraid of the Dark
Alex Mack
The Adventures of Flipper the Dolphin (when Jessica Alba was in it)
Home Improvement
Keenan & Kel
Saved by the Bell
California Dreams
Hang Time
USA High
Ready or Not
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Sister Sister
Boy Meets World
Clarissa Explains it All
Touched by an Angel
The Queen's Nose
Sweet Valley High
California Dreams
Clueless
Heartbreak High
Round the Twist
So, that's pretty much around 90% of what I can remember watching when I was a child. I think there were a lot more quality programmes back then - though it could just be me! All those new Disney Programmes can't match any of the old shows, hence why I think they should all be back on television! I would love to be able to watch programmes like California Dreams all over again, that show never did get as much credit as it clearly deserved. i just wish that the old shows were on DVD so I would be able to show them to my children in the future - ya know, when I actually have children!
I miss being a child soooo much!!!
Woah...so not liking this!
I knew the site was changing but I kinda don't like it. I guess I might get used to it eventually but navigation isn't exactly easy and it looks too...yuck.
Can we have the option of going back to the old one?
Bleurgh.
"No Artificial Colours or Flavours"
I know the following has nothing to do with television...but i'm gonna say it anyway!
The blue Smartie just isn't what it used to be. It might 'be back' but it's nowhere near the same! I consider the commercial stating 'blue is back' as misleading - first of all it's not even the same shade of blue as the original!
Just because these scientist dudes have decided artificial colours and flavours are not good for children, the makers of sweets like Smarties have re-manufactured them so they don't have the additives. I happen to quite like additives, they never did me any harm...I turned out alright, right??
Okay, I totally get that hyper kids can be annoying, but I loved having Smarties and the like when I was a child and getting a little hyper was all part of the fun!! Besides, as an adult I think it'd only be fair for the manufacturers to start making Smarties with additives again...just market them to adult consumers! I think i'll e-mail them with this proposal - I won't even request any reward for the idea, I just want the old Smarties back!
Oh, George Samson won Britain's Got Talent - HOLLA! He's an amazing little dancer. I think Escala and Faryl should have made top 3 though. I think they'll do well out of BGT anyway, at least I hope they will - they were brilliant! Strike, Signature and Nemisis were fantastic too. ![]()
Lost with "Lost"
You know what? I haven't managed to see 1 episode of Lost since maybe episode 3 of the latest Season. What's worse is that I can't even remember what season we're on. I feel pretty bad about it. Although I consider it a good show I really only watched it religiously for the simple reason that missing a minute of an episode would mean i'd get completely confused as to what was going on. I guess that's why i've given up. There are too many strange thigs going on with that programme and even when I did watch every episode I still kinda didn't get it....maybe it's because i'm blonde. I don't know. I think Ch4 should have kept the rights to airing it instead of Sky One since now that it only gets aired on Sky One there's virtually no chance of me catching any episodes. Awww...
Oh, Pushing Daisies - I don't understand the hype. I watched the first episode and frankly got so bored I fell asleep. How can anyone sit through a whole episode with that silly voice-over thingy saying "one hour, four minutes and six seconds yada yada yada" ?? It annoys me.
I've lost all interest in 'Dirty Sexy Money' too. I tried to get into it but nah, just not my cup of tea. I prefer Gossip Girl. I know, I know, it makes so much sense to compare these two shows, since they're evidently sooooo similar, right?
Dirt - Yet another show i'm rapidly losing interest in. The first Season was pretty good but I find myself forgetting to watch the new episodes and not paying any attention when I do remember to watch it!
There's a new sketch show on BBC3 called 'Barely Legal'. It's pretty funny, I still prefer Smack the Pony though. Anyone know anything about any new episodes of Smack the Pony? It was never really on very regularly so I never know if it'll be on so I end up missing it if it is. I should go check if it's on DVD.
New Gladiators UK - haven't seen one episode yet but I kinda don't wanna because I loved the original show and I don't particularly like change. Catching any episodes is unlikely because it's on friggin' Sky One. Stupid Channel!!! I kinda feel like I should be loyal to the original Gladiators...even though it finished 8 years ago and wasn't so good after Jet left anyway. I need help, right?
Why do we UK citizens always waste our time entering the Eurovision Song Contest? It's blatantly obvious that the voting is purely political and the music has nothing to do with it. I think the UK should pull out of any involvement with the show, including funding. While we're at it, we should seriously consider dropping out of the European Union all together. Being part of it is completely mucking up our legal system. Oh, we came 25th in the ESC - out of 25 entries. Ok, we were 'joint' 25th but we only scored an 8 from one country and a 6 from another while the other two countries with the dubious honor of being in the same place as us had been awarded higher singular scores which meant they beat us so in actual fact the UK came last...we may as well have gotten no points whatsoever, or as I said, not bothered entering in the first place. The whole contest is a sham and unless we go back to jury voting it will continue to be a sham.
I missed the Season finale of Skins too. Slightly annoying. I switched it on but I managed to lose all concentration. I can't even remember what I was doing that made me divert my attention...coulda been exams...maybe. Considering i'd watched all of the episodes up until then i'm pretty p***ed at missing the finale since they're changing the whole cast for the next Season.
I have no money until Friday and virtually no petrol, and that's without factoring guy troubles into it. Anyone wanna give me some money so I can go on a nice sunny holiday?!

Gossip Girl
I absolutely LOVE GG, it has to be one of the best programmes on the air at the moment!
We're only 3 episodes in over here and i'm already addicted, have been since 5 mins into the first episode. The pilot was amazing and I love the way Serena and Dan are together. The way their relationship is progressing is something anyone can relate to and totally absorbs the viewers!
It is seriously one of those programmes that requires the phone being off and a severe warning to anyone who dares knock on your door that you will make them regret it - once the episode is finished of course!
Just a heads up for any UK-ers who haven't gotten round to watching GG yet - you are sooo missing out!!
I have read comments stating that it's not good because it isn't true to the book it is based on...well, i've never read the book/s so it doesn't apply to me - yay!
This is yet another reason I will be using to explain why I don't read these days! It has the potential to wreck programmes because constantly comparing the two would be annoying and totally ruin the fact that regardless of whether the show is accurate in terms of the book it's a really good show and shouldn't be slated just for that dare I say 'minor' issue.
I get that it might be disappointing in some respects if you expected it to be true to the book, but just sit back and enjoy it for what it is - brilliant television in an age where reality tv is everywhere and fiction is just what people need at the moment, something to take them away from reality and into another world, even if it is just for an hour a week.
