Agro is the most extreme hero EVER.

Hey kids. We've all played Shadow of the Colossus. If not, get out of my blog. No seriously. Bye. Go play it. Then come back and we'll talk.

All done?

Alright so Wander from the game is currently duking it out with several other characters to be one of the ten reader-selected heroes picked for the final bracket in the All Time Greatest Hero challenge. I'm not so sure about this one. While I like Wander and all, you have to admit there is something a little dubious about him and his situation. You can't help but feel sorry for the colossi he wakes and kills... they seem innocent, and that makes Wander a little less than heroic.

There is one character in the game that never wavers from heroism: Agro! Agro, Wander's horse, is self-sacrificing until the end and a much better hero than Wander will ever be. Get Agro the recognition he deserves - join the movement!

Grassroots people, grassroots.

I'd absolutely love to hear all your thoughts on why or why not Wander is actually a hero. Let's talk about it! Feel free to comment in my blog or in the ATG forum thread.

I assumed some of the characters I liked like Wander and Yoshi would get in the top 10 so I wanted to promote either The Nameless one, JT Denton, or Maverick instead. I ended up voting for The Nameless one.

poor agro!

Well, I find stalking and taking down gigantic beasts, regardless of how docile some of them are (and some of them are down right vicious) to try to save my one and only true love extremely heroic, but I guess that's the hopeless romantic in me. But anyway, Agro's self-sacrifice was one those most emotionally moving scenes I've experienced in any video game. The game's such a masterpierce. Its only fault was that it wasn't on the PS3.

@Legolas_Katarn - I actually voted for Wander because I love SOTC so much and would rather see him represented than nothing from the game, but in retrospect I wish I would have voted for Professor Layton! D'oh!

@Mailer_Daemon - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7385313&st=shadow+of+the+colossus&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1122654484145

@JustPlainLucas - the beasts are vicious - after you provoke them. It's heroic, but there's something sad about it, too.

*Whispers very, very quietly...* I haven't played it, but I want to!

Sorry, never played SotC and I don't have a PS2 so I couldn't even if I wanted too. I know that it is a great game though.

That game has been awhile - it was awesome. JT Denton was my vote in this round

Yeah, definately. There was always a sad moment that came when I felled one of the more mystical beasts, the bird was one of them. So beautiful...

Hm, I wouldn't consider Wander to be a hero as he kills many innocent beasts. However, in some ways he is very heroic, as he goes through great bounds to save the woman he loves. By any means necessary.

Gamespot is prejudice against horses I say!

My favorites are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Portal, Final Fantasy X, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. ____________________________________________ What am I like outside of video games? I'm a Christian, which is very important to me. I do my best to honor God in my life. :) My friends do and will always mean more to me than anything else. I love music of all kinds. My favorite musicans are Anathallo and the amazing Josh Ritter, but I also adore Cat Power, Counting Crows, R.E.M., Death Cab for Cutie, Sufjan Stevens, Norah Jones, Josh Groban, The Decemberists, Elton John, Page France, Tandem, Five Iron Frenzy, David Crowder Band, Rilo Kiley, Regina Spektor, and lots more. I love singing, it is the only thing that never fails to make me happy. I do a ton of reading. My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut, and some of my favorite books are Cat's Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, Crime and Punishment, The Prophet, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and the Harry Potter series. You might could call me "Little Miss Campus Involvement," and when I'm at school I like to have my hand in everything, including Student Government, honor societies, and other organizations. I think in general you decide whether or not you want to be happy in life, so I choose to smile. :) ____________________________________________ If you have any questions regarding a moderation I made or just need some help, feel free to send me a PM. :)
