My Top 10 Films of the Decade

Welcome to my top 10 films of the decade! Throughout the next couple of moths, I will be making various top 10 of the decade lists. Please enjoy and discuss!

10. No Country for Old Men (2007)

Featuring one of the most chilling villains ever put on screen, No Country for Old Men shows the complex, disturbing nature of a sociopath and his desire to kill. Great acting across the board, No Country succeeds not only as a dramatic, thought-provoking film, but in taking the viewer through a disturbing trip into the mind of a bloodthirsty killer.

9. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

What I believe is easily the best of the Potter films and simply one of the best fantasy films of the decade, Azkaban features a darker look into Harry Potter's world and boasts breathtaking visual ****and effects, and an ending that will blow the mind of anyone who has never read the books.

8. The Departed (2006)

One of the best crime films ever made, The Departed is a masterpiece by the great Martin Scorsese, and features great acting from the lead cast, particularly Leo Decaprio and Mark Wahlberg, and a great story about betrayal and hidden identity.

7. King Kong (2005)

A visual masterpiece with drama that is as legendary as films themselves, Peter Jackson's King Kong is a stunning remake of the ****c monster film. Jackson could have made a simple King Kong film of the giant ape running around destroying everything and made millions, but he decided to put his heart and soul into a project he believed in, and the result is nothing other than a soon-to-be ****c.

6. The Prestige (2006)

Here's a movie that I'm sure many people haven't seen, or didn't even know about. Before his Dark Knight masterpiece (which we'll get to later in this list), Christopher Nolan made a little film about magicians in the late 19th century who were obsessed with performing magic and stabbing each other in the back. Some of the most breathtaking visual effects I've ever seen and a story that blew my mind up, The Prestige is an excellent film.

5. Inglourious Basterds (2009)

inglourious basterds brad Pitt by Cine Fanatico.

The most recent movie on my list, Inglourious Basterds is easily the best movie I've seent his year. Quentin Tarantino has made yet another amazing, albeit weird, film, this time visiting World War II. Incredible dialogue, heart stopping action, and awesome performances by Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz take this movie above and beyond most war films.

4. The Dark Knight (2008 )

Ahh, here we are, the movie that everyone and their grandmother's dog have seen. The Dark Knight is an excellent movie simply because of the incredible atmosphere of the whole thing, not to mention the incredible action and involving storyline. But who am I kidding, we all know that Heath Ledger's performance is what makes this movie such a masterpiece. Mr. Ledger has given us a performance for the ages. Many have called The Dark Knight the greatest superhero movie ever made. While that is a very worthy claim, I disagree because...

3. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

… I believe Spider-Man 2 is the greatest superhero movie ever made. I will never forget seeing the first movie with my dad, and by the time the second movie was out, I was crapping my pants to go see it, and man, was it worth the wait. Spider-Man 2 is amazing because of it's dramatic storyline, intriguing villain, and the fun of the whole adventure. Like I said, Spider-Man 2 is my all time favorite superhero movie, and I don't think another one will beat it for a long, long time.

2. Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in 20th Century Fox's Star Wars: Episode III

Star Wars is awesome. Period. Revenge of the Sith is an experience that will never leave me. I have always been a Star Wars fan, and when I was standing in line to see Episode III, words can't express how stoked I was. Easily the best of the prequels, RotS is my second favorite movie of the decade because it completed the Star Wars saga so excellently, and the sheer power of the mythology drives the whole movie in such an entertaining way, you can't help but enjoy it.

1. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

The Lord of the Rings is the greatest trilogy in the history of movies. One of the most amazing stories ever written was brought the the screen so brilliantly by Peter Jackson that I don't think anyone even expected it. The Fellowship of the Ring isn't just my favorite movie of the decade, it's my favorite movie of all time. The visual effects, set pieces, and music score are absolutely beautiful, the acting is basically perfect, and the story is one for the ages. This is a movie that I can watch over and over again and be equally entertained everytime.

Just scored Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for $10

Woo! So I went to Wally World (Wal Mart) and scored a brand new copy of FE: SD for $10!! I've been meaning to get this game for the longest time, but never got around to it. I saw it for $10 and couldn't resist. I own the other four FE games and I love them (it's my second favorite series behind Zelda), so I'm stoked to play Shadow Dragon!!

File:Fire Emblem DS.jpg

In other news, I broke my ass to platinum Force Unleashed (Sith Master difficulty is absolutely brutal) to earn my fourth platinum trophy! I plan to platinum Uncharted 2 next. When Christmas break rolls around, I plan to get my hands on New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Zelda: Spirit Tracks!

Woot for video games. Superzone out.

Just purchased Ultimate Sith Edition of Force Unleashed

Hey guys. Just a little update on what I'm up to lately with games. I just purchased the new version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, dubbed the Ultimate Sith Edition, for my PS3 today. Now, I already own Force for my Wii, and it's a great game (Wii owners should absolutely check it out if they haven't already, it's only $20 now!), but I never got to play the HD version of the game. I've been excited for this special edition since it was announced a few months back, and it was worth waiting for. The gameplay and story are awesome, and I'm stoked to play the new levels (I want to play the main campaign first). The game came in a sweet tin box with a neat little collector's card inside and an art booklet. Ultimate Sith Edition is a great buy at $40 if you don't already own the game.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer by PlayStation.Blog.

And a quick update on Uncharted 2. I've been playing it like crazy (it's my official GOTY by the way), and I'm just a few trophies away from the platinum! And the Halloween special on the multiplayer was awesome last weekend! I'm at level 32 now!

File:The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks box art.jpg

As far as future game purchases go, my top games to get by the end of the year are New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. I also hope to get the God of War Collection very soon!

Uncharted 2 first impressions

Wow.

So, I went out and bought Uncharted 2: Among Thieves at midnight the day of release. So far I'm on Chapter 12 (I'm guessing I'm close to the halfway point), and there is no doubt in my mind that this is the best game of 2009, and easily the best PS3 game to date.

The story is amazing so far, with plenty of twists and intense moments. The gameplay hasn't change much from the first game, but anyone who has played the first one knows that it isn't even close to broken, so there was nothing that needed to be fixed. As far as the multiplayer goes, I think I've got quite the addiction ahead of me. The multiplayer is smooth and fun as hell, and there's plenty of perks and leveling up to keep you playing.

If you own a PS3 my friends, you MUST have Uncharted 2. I can't wait to finish the single player mode. Between that, going for the Platinum trophy, and enjoying all of the multiplayer and co-op modes, I've got tons of fun ahead of me.

It's been far too long..

Man, I haven't posted a blog in quite some time! I haven't been on GS too much lately (except the forums from time to time), and I think it's about time I get my blog going again! I started up my first year of college about a month ago, so it's kept me quite busy, but now I'm quite settled in and ready for the fall gaming season! I'll be making a blog on my first Uncharted 2 impressions next week so stay tuned!

Fat Princess: the best $15 I've ever spent.

Let's just get this out of the way: if you own a PS3, get Fat Princess.

I downloaded it almost immedietely after it was added to the Store earlier today. I've already played it for over 5 hours! The strategy and action combine perfectly and the game is frickin'hilarious. Download it soon if you haven't, you owe it to yourself.

The top ten worst characters in videogames

For every great series with great characters, there's always at least one character that is odd, stupid, or just confusing. I present to you what I believe to be the top ten absolute worst characters in videogames.

10. Raiden (MGS series)

Reasons: He enjoys doing naked cartwheels

I know that Metal Gear Solid series has it's odd moments, but nothing compares to Raiden's naked escapades in MGS2. The last thing I need to see in a videogame is a naked male running around and doing cartwheels. While that alone puts him on this list, he's also on it because he's just such an inferior hero compared to Snake.

9. Jigglypuff (Pokemon series)

Reasons: Kirby pulled off the pink puffball deal already, and in a much more respectable way; she's the worst character in Super Smash Bros. hands down

Jiggy poo is just so annoying. Her voice bugs me (especially the singing) and she's a cheap knock off of Kirby, who is a much more respectable and interesting character.

8. Mario Kart Bowser (Mario Kart series)

Reasons: He's slow, he takes up half the screen, the CPUBowser is a complete ass

Bowser is a ****c videogame villain and everyone loves him... when he's not driving. Bowser in the Mario Kart games is just terrible. He's slow, huge, and just not as easy to control as everyone else in the game. Also, the CPU Bowser is always insanely annoying and feels he needs to knock you against walls every five seconds of a race.

7. Sheva Alomar (Resident Evil 5)

Reasons: Her dialogue is God awful, even by Resident Evil standards; she's pretty much useless half the time, specifically in Professional difficulty

What many people might not know is that Chris originally wasn't even going to have a partner in RE5. After controversy over a white guy killing a bunch of Africans (I never did see why that was such a big deal) Capcom decided to add a new character to the game that wasn't white. Sheva was born and became Chris's partner. Her dialogue is horrendous and she simply doesn't help half the time.

6. Wario (Wario series, Mario series)

Reasons: He's an embarrasment of a villain and is simply obnoxious

I hate Wario. While the Wario Land and Warioware games are fantastic, I just hate the character. He didn't bother me that much until the Mario sports games and SSBB rolled around.

5. Birdo (Mario series)

Reason: She... uhm, it is one of the oddest characters I've ever seen, it shoots frickin' eggs out of it's mouth

I don't really know what to say about Birdo. A villain in Super Mario Bros. 2, everyone wondered both what the hell it was, and why it shoots eggs out of it's mouth. The world may never know..

4. Voldo (Soul Calibur series)

Reasons: He might be the flat out strangest and most disturbing character ever made, his growling and whining are annoying as hell

Voldo will never make since to me. Why is he always hiding his eyes? Why does he always dance around? Why does he sound like a sick puppy when you hit him? Why does he wear such flamboyant clothing? All of this questions will never be answered. I guess I'll just try to enjoy fighting against one of the dumbest characters in all of creation.

3. Big the Cat (Sonic series)

Big the Cat - Sonic the Hedgehog by beckysonicfan.

Reasons: He's as smart as a shovel, his fishing levels in Sonic Adventure make you want to kill yourself

The Sonic series has some odd characters, but none compare to Big the Cat. He talks like a three year old with little to no mental capacity, and his level in his debut game Sonic Adventure were absolutely terrible. After running around with another character and having a blast, you then half to play as Big and catch some fish, with awful controls. I personally blame Big for Sonic's last few years of shame.

2. Slippy (Star Fox series)

Reasons: His voice is annoying enough to make you strangle an infant, he never helps you at all but you are always expected to help him

Oh God. Now we're getting into truly horrible territory. Slippy the Toad is well known for causing more harm then good in the Star Fox games. His voice is incredible obnoxious and you ALWAYS have to save his stupid ass. Sure, you also have to save Falco, Peppy, and Krystal from harm, but you actually WANT to save them. If you're like me, everytime Slippy calls for aid I never go to him. I enjoy watching him suffer and die more than playingthe game itself.

1. Tingle (Zelda series)

This video sums him up pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM2mHTXqLAw

Reasons: Just look at him.

Just got the Platinum in Uncharted!

It was quite a pain in the anus, but I finally made it through Crushing difficulty and earned my Platinum in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune!

No applause is necesary...... ok, maybe a little

Hands down one of my new favorite videogames ever. My excitement for Uncharted 2 is blazing, and the game is still month's away from release! Until then, I have a beautiful Platinum trophy on my PS3 Profile!

My new PS3 / Uncharted: Drake's Fortune / Michael Jackson RIP

Yo fellow G-Spotters. Let me start by saying that this is a late blog. I got my new PS3 a week ago and I've been playing it like a fool

Anyway, I really am loving my PS3. Right off the bat I got Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Resident Evil 5. Now, I actually haven't played too much of RE5. Why, you ask? The answer is simple: Uncharted is one of the best games I've ever played. I've clocked in roughly 25 hours into it and I only have one more trophy to go until I get the Platinum (yes, I've played it THAT much in seven days). Uncharted has become one of my all time very favorite videogames, probably up in the top 5 or 10 on my list. I love it. My anticipation for Uncharted 2 has gone through the roof.

On a side note, while I know it happened a few days ago, I was very saddened by the death of Michael Jackson He's one of my all time favorite music artists and it was a sad day for me last week. While I know how weird he was in his last few years of life, I still want him to rest in peace because he really was a great person at heart. Thriller lives on forever!

The 5 E3 2009 games that blew me away

5. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)

Silent Hill Shattered Memories by gamesweasel.

This game simply looks scary as piss. Unlike most horror games that give you weapons, and therefore something to defend yourself with, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories gives you nothing but a flashlight, forcing you to run and hide from the horrors you will find in Silent Hill. The total sense of helplessness is what is going to make SM so freakin' good, and the fantastic Wii graphics, specifically the lighting effects, don't hurt either.

4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)

File:NSMBwii.jpg

The best platformer on the DS is getting a Wii sequel with four player multiplayer co-op? I'm in. New Super Mario Bros. Wii promises all the fun of the DS game with added multiplayer awesomeness. The fact that it's the first Mario sidescroller since the mid-90s also makes it hugely appealing.

3. Scribblenauts (DS)

File:Scribblenauts.jpg

The most innovative DS game to date? It looks like it, and that isn't an easy title to take on a system that oozes creativity left and right. Scribblenauts basically allows you to write any word you can think of and the game will make that thing appear on screen. To solve the puzzles in the game you must rely on your own creative abilities, and you can come up with the most wacky crap in the world. Need to get over a wall? Try a diving board. Need to get a beached whale back in the ocean? Use a bulldozer. Need to defeat an enemy? Try giving God a call, he'll come help you.

2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)

File:Uncharted 2 screenshot.jpg

Nathan Drake is back in what looks to be one of the most beautiful and action packed videogames ever. Expanding on what made the first game so great, Among Thieves takes you to the streets fighting mercenaries, scaling buildings, and running from a helicopter trying to kill you. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves garnered critical acclaim from basically everyone who attended E3 this year and it promises to be one of the best games of 2009.

1. Metroid: Other M (Wii)

Metroid: Other M

I'm not kidding when I say this: I just about s*** bricks when Nintendo showed the trailer for Metroid: Other M at the end of their conference. It was so unexpected, and was easily the most exciting Nintendo conference moment since Miyamoto walked on stage to announce Twilight Princess at E3 2004. As if the Metroid name wasn't good enough, the fact that Team Ninja is developing it makes it even more exciting. It's going to be a fresh take on the Metroid saga with more storytelling than ever before, and the graphics might just be the best on Wii so far. Absolutely the most mind blowing game for me at E3 this year, and it wasn't even playable.

Am I the only one who hasn't gotten the E3 emblems yet?

I watched the Sony and Nintendo conferences live on Gamespot last week (I watched Microsoft on G4 the day before)and I still don't have my emblems! What gives?

First official image from Zelda 2010 publicly revealed

Check it out up above, it's my new blog image!

Anyway, as many of you probably know, Mr. Miyamoto held a private roundtable during E3 and discuss various things, including Link's next adventure on the Wii. He revealed one lone image for the game, but the public was not allowed to see it... until today!

Check out IGN's coverage of the image here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/992/992063p1.html

What I'm hoping for tomorrow at E3

Nintendo:

A LOT of hardore game announcements and demonstrations. I swear to God if they pull the crap they did last year at E3 I will chuck my Wii out of my two story window and take a video of it to send to them.

New console Zelda (looking at the history of Zelda games, this announcement has a good chance of happening tomorrow)

New Metroid (the long awaited Metroid Dread, anyone?)

Pikmin 3

New Star Fox

New F-Zero

And hopefully more.

Sony:

PS3 PRICE DROP PLEASE!!!
Uncharted 2 gameplay
MGS4: Subsistence

Well, that's about all from Sony that I want. I don't own a PS3 yet, so I can't think of much, but they should have a great show.

I have made the decision to get a PS3

This is was a big, big decision for me. I have been an exclusive Nintendo owner my whole life.

The reason I have decided to get a PS3 is because the Wii has proved less than stellar the past year or so. Seriously, there hasn't been one single game released since SSBB in March of 2008 that has interested me enough for a purchase. Nintendo's sick minded casual plan has gone long enough, I'm sick and tired of this gimmicky nonsense.

Now I love my Wii and all my games for it (Twilight Princess, Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, and a few more, as well as my downloaded games), but I haven't purchase EVEN ONE game since Brawl which came out FOURTEEN MONTHS AGO.

I want a PS3 for games like GTAIV, RE5, MGS4, and the recently released in FAMOUS.

Now, I'm not going to abandon my Wii or anything. I still play all the great games I own and I love them all. But until Nintendo starts showing some love for it's loyal fans, I'm going to be exclusively buying PS3 games.

Star Trek is one of the best movies I've ever seen

Go see it. Now.

I just went to the movie tonight, and I can safely say that Star Trek is the most amazing experience I've had at the movie theater in a long, long time. The casting is perfect and the visuals are just mesmerizing. You don't need to be a fan of Star Trek to enjoy it either. Do yourself a favor and check it out this weekend.

Finally completed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

After the game has been out for six years, I've managed to beat The Wind Waker. I've only had the game for about a year, and I'm glad I decided to finally play through it and beat it. In the end of it all, I found Wind Waker to be one of the best in the series.
