Iraq War Hits Home
I wanted to relay this moment I had today just as a way of getting it off my chest. Shopping at Wal-mart today with my family I came upon a cashier who by chance mentioned that she had a son serving in Iraq. Her son is a hero, I think we can all agree, but what really got to me was her story of her friend. A close friend from what I know, whose son is also in Iraq, and has already served three tours in that god foresaken hell hole. And here's the kicker, he's only 21 years old.
That's insane.
How the hell can the NEOCON "horny for war" fruit loops in this country justify sending a 21 year old kid into a horrible screwed up beyond belief situation like that three times? A war planned by a complete failure as Defense Secretary, Donald Dumsfeld and lead by the Worst President to EVER serve. Not to mention these scumbag pundits who continue to prop up this mess like William "The Bloody"Kristol.
It makes me sick. I hope these kids make it home alright. Remember them in your prayers along with all of our brave troops.
Cable News Ratings Commentary - May 2
6PM - P2+ (25-54)
Special Report with Brit Hume – 1,178,000 viewers (298,000)
Situation Room- 667,000 viewers (183,000)
Race to the White House- 514,000 viewers (188,000)
Mad Money – 160,000 viewers (a scratch with 42,000)
Prime News- 247,000 viewers (96,000)
Comments: Brit Hume continues to dominate this time slot despite the ever changing competition from the other networks. But note that Wolf Blitzer and the Situation Room on CNN is showing strong adult 25-54 DEMO growth at the 5 pm hour and if that growth continues you can expect this hour to do the same, I think.
David Gregory's "Race to the White House" has improved the MSNBC's performance in this slot by 80 to 90% over Tucker Carlson's show. MSNBC has to be happy about that.
7PM - P2+ (25-54)
Fox Report w/ Shepard Smith – 1,176,000 viewers (256,000)
Lou Dobbs – 739,000 viewers (165,000)
Hardball – 576,000 viewers (226,000)
Kudlow & Company- 173,000 viewers (54,000)
Glenn Beck – 489,000 viewers (214,000)
Comments: Lou Dobbs move to 7pm has added to his audience notiacbly. The show has zoomed to over a million viewers on many nighs since the move from 6 PM and has defeated the 'Fox Report' on several occasions in the "Money" demo. But Fox is still the unchallenged leader in total viewers and you gotta respect that.
Hardball seems to be stalled just below the 600K viewers mark and doesn't look like he's gonna break out of that while Glenn Beck on HLN is showing growth from year to year. This night in particular shows him third in the "Money" dem. Nice job Glenn.
8PM - P2+ (25-54)
The O'Reilly Factor- 2,064,000 viewers (376,000)
CNN Election Center– 551,000 viewers (153,000)
Countdown w/Olbermann – 910,000 viewers (313,000)
Fast Money- a scratch with 76,000 viewers (a scratch with 26,000) **Ran from 8-8:30PM ET
High Net Worth- a scratch with 53,000 viewers (a scratch with 11,000) **Ran from 8:30-9PM ET
Nancy Grace – 467,000 viewers (145,000)
Comments: Clearly we have two competitors in this hour, The Factor and Countdown and nothing seems likely to change anytime soon. Notice the "Money" demo and how close it is getting in that segment. Some nights it's even closer and that is the story many people like to focus on because the total viewers is no real contest yet.
9 PM - P2+ (25-54)
Hannity & Colmes – 1,472,000 viewers (270,000)
Larry King – 1,044,000 viewers (231,000)
MSNBC Reports – 527,000 viewers (163,000)
Deal or No Deal- 324,000 viewers (72,000)
Glenn Beck- 446,000 viewers (201,000)
Comments: Not much to talk about really. H&C still dominates and even on this typically low rated Friday they draw 1.5 million viewers. Larry King also drew a million viewers as usual. So the two major players did what they usually do.
10 PM P2+ (25-54)
On the Record – 1,177,000 viewers (268,000)
Anderson Cooper– 993,000 viewers (268,000)
Countdown w/Olbermann – 474,000 viewers (137,000)
Donny Deutsch- 160,000 viewers (72,000)
Nancy Grace – 358,000 viewers (138,000)
Comments: The big story of this hour continues to be the on-going battle between 'On the Record' & '360' in the "Money" demo. A great example is tonight and the dead even demo numbers. It's not by any means the first time, it's happened almost on a regular basis in the last few weeks. The usual argument is that Fox still wins in total viewers and while that is true, that now is has tightened considerably as evidenced above. That's gotta be concerning for the folks at Fox News.
Cable News Ratings and Commentary: May 1, 2008
8PM - P2+ (25-54)
The O'Reilly Factor- 3,193,000 viewers (694,000)
CNN Election Center- 561,000 viewers (151,000)
Countdown w/Olbermann - 1,183,000 viewers (452,000)
Fast Money- 180,000 viewers (67,000)
Nancy Grace - 579,000 viewers (171,000)
Comments: The second part of the hyped "Hillary Interview" on The Factor pulled in a second strong night of ratings for the show. Although down nearly 400k total viewers from night one and 200K plus in the Adult 25-54 demo night to night, the performance proves that although Fox is trending down in the ratings, they are still number one.
Also of note is the performance of 'Countdown' at roughly 1.18 million and 452K demo. A strong second place that shows the former ESPN anchor is growing his audience still, despite the "Fox Delusionals" who insist it isn't happening I offer the evidence in hard numbers above.
Nancy Grace and the Campbell Brown lead 'Election Center' continue trail behind the competition and show no signs yet of growing significantly.
9 PM - P2+ (25-54)
Hannity & Colmes - 1,965,000 viewers (461,000)
Larry King - 1,036,000 viewers (158,000)
Verdict w/Dan Abrams - 656,000 viewers (218,000)
Deal or No Deal- 454,000 viewers (137,000)
Glenn Beck- 440,000 viewers (150,000)
Comments: 'Hannity & Colmes' continues to be the hottest performer this election cycle with it's audience up noticably in recent weeks and now averaging nearly two million viewers a night. Tabloid meets politics and you get the senior vote in droves. Roughly 1/4th of the audience is 25 to 54, not exactly something to write home about.
Also of note, Verdict w/Dan Abrams climbing considerably above it's average delivery to 650k. Considering it's in the same time slot as heavy hitters 'Larry King Live' and 'Hannity & Colmes' I think it's something to brag about. Verdict also took a second place in the DEMO for the hour.
Deal or No Deal on CNBC beats Glenn Beck. Interesting.
10 PM P2+ (25-54)
On the Record - 1,353,000 viewers (334,000)
Anderson Cooper- 1,078,000 viewers (258,000)
Countdown w/Olbermann - 570,000 viewers (250,000)
Donny Deutsch- 59,000 viewers (27,000)
Nancy Grace - 451,000 viewers (204,000)
Comments: Anderson Cooper continues his slow march towards Greta on Fox.Inching ever closer it appears. Having beaten her a number of times in the DEMO it would not surprise me to see him eventually over take 'On the Record'. Hey I can have my paranoid delusions too.
Note: In case it's not obvious the number on the left is total viewers, the number in parenthesis is 25-54 year old viewers.
More Predictions
10. It will be revealed that the Jack Abramoff scandal was primarily a Republican scandal. WAIT. That already happened. Nevermind.
11. The last remaining black and gay in the Republican party will quit. This might have already occured as of press time.
12. Osama Bin Laden will finally be captured after he attempts to vote for his good friend and fellow loonatic Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum (soon to be EX-senator).
You people are in trouble!
Happy dance on the streets of Washington D.C.
Why you may ask? Well most of you are two young to remember the last DemoRat controlled congress, so let me fill you in. IT'S FUNNY AS ALL HELL. These guys fight each other a lot dirtier than they ever will the opposition (yes the Republicans are still a national party...for now). I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a killing or an attempted one within the first 6 months of a Dem controlled congress.
Happy dance on the streets of Washington D.C.
With the house almost assuredly going Dem (along with possibly the Senate), Let me take this time to make some predictions.
Predictions:
1. Tom "Money Laundering" DeLay will come to realize he's been misled by the conservative party idealogues and switch sides to become the new Democratic Majority Leader (don't ask me to explain how.)
2. Pat Robertson will have a coronary while reading the latest election results on Tuesday night during the "Pat Robertson and Wothless Son Insanity Hour." As a side note, after a full recovery he'll predict America will feel the rath of god after voting the DemoRats back in office. And nothing of note will ever occur.
3. Ann **** and Sean "Losing" Sanity will announce on air that they are soulless repug leeches and will promptly switch party alliances. No one will care.
4. Louisanna Rep. William Jefferson's house will again be raided by the FBI. They'll again hundreds of thousands of dollars in his freezer and he'll continue to claim that he has a good reason for it being there. But refuses to let anyone else in on the secret.
5. Fat drug addict Rush Limbaugh will continue to snort pills on air and attack innocent people with disabilities. Mostly due to the fact that's he's a media whore with no soul.
6. Air America Radio will immerge from bankrupcy and become the most powerful media empire in the nation. Sorry I was feeling dizzy and nauseaus when I wrote that. I'm better now.
7. Paul Zahn and Wolf Blitzer will announce they have wed in a secret ceremony in upstate long island (umm ok). And they are expecting a child. It'll be a boy named Wolf Blitzer Zahn (repeat it over a few times fast), that way ever time he says his name you'll know is daddy is on tv. No one will care.
8. And finally...Faux News will become a REAL news network (ok stop laughing already...it COULD happen).
Go vote on Tuesday.
A Few Topics On My Mindless...
People I try to be a comedian or political commentator that makes fun of the whole art of it. So I regret that anyone reading my blog entries has really been offended, because they are afterall for the entertainment value mostly (unlike this post). I could just as easily come on here and rant about that anorexic skanky witch Ann Coulter and her cruel and disgusting attacks on the 9/11 victims. But I chose to not post anything on that topic, though I may make fun of her in the future at length. But be assured if I do, I will also balance that out with some comedic jabs at the left's wingnuts. Because let's face it, no group of people on this earth deserve to be laughed at more than our pathetic politicians.
On a similar note, I'd like to bring to the attention of anyone who cares, that the producers of the lame and poorly scripted series of films intitled "Left Behind" starring Kirk Cameron and others, has now launched into the video game market with a reportedly violently entry that revolves around Christ's followers killing all non-believers in a simulated New York City. How can anyone that is a true believer in Jesus Christ actually stomach this crap and how can the producers of this actually look themselves in the mirror and honestly believe it's simply done for the marketing win kids to Christ. You don't want violent video games available to minors like GTA and DOOM cause they teach violence, but your violent crud should be freely available cause it teaches your kids how to kill all non-believers. Just a little hypocritical are we now?
This leads me to my rant for today, garbage like is what is wrong with America, we let fringe nut jobs like the James Dobson and Ann Coulter on the right, and Michael Moore and other's on the left, control our discussion and policy. What we as a country should be doing is addressing our own problems, not waiting till the mental midgets we elect to office to do it. Cause they're not, regardless of how many times you voted for the waste of skin.
We can take the lead like the REAL heroes like John McCain, Gen.Wesley Clark, Mayor Rudy, the Minutemen down in texas and Arizona, and address our own problems head on NOW.
My vision of America is for people like these to lead us, and to weed out the loonies (Pat Robertson, Ann Coulter), crooked politico's (Tom Delay, Duke Cunningham, William Jefferson) and pretenders (like Charlie Daniels and who fought for years for America and then went soft and aligned himself with a bunch of loon bags like pat robertson). We should take a stand against our worthless elected officials and say we want A..B...C and if we don't get it, your ass is gone in November. Why can't we do this? Thoughts?
Listen, I am trying to offend you...so start getting offendeded
Did you realize the month of June was the official beginning of "republican desperation" month in Washington DC. Well let me explain a little before you attack me (lol). Usually the circus known as our nation's capital spins out of
control in an election year, with Liberal's and Conservative's spinning
the truth till they're dizzy. Talk about first class entertainment,
hell yeah baby, this pant load is funnier than most prime time comedies. But
this year the republican's stand alone, as they lose what little
moral's or common sense they have in a pathetic attempt to court the
religious right. (note: for funny liberal lunacy, you might have to
wait till November, if they win the house or senate, we'll enter a new
age of hilarious politics, cause no one fights each other like the
liberal's).
We started with the right's favorite election year legislation, the gay marriage ban. Which will NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS pass. But the crackheads on the right are obviously running scared and figure this old war horse worked once so let's try it again. Do you the REAL conservative's in this country believe you will ever get this amendment? If you do, are you interested in some swamp in Florida at a good price? Holla!
So since writing hatred into the constitution failed. I think making fun of the wing nuts who are in favor of it, is totally appropriate. So Bob take it away...
Bob Harris: The gay sex should start arriving at the door sometime later today. I’ve been straight my whole life, but the Senate was unable to muster enough votes to “defend” heterosexual marriage. Obviously, if heterosexual marriage needs to be defended, and now the effort has failed, heterosexual relationships are now profoundly endangered. We straights are helpless — helpless! — to preserve our own relationships and orientation. So, I will be expecting the gay sex to arrive at the door sometime later today, and for all of my family and personal relationships to begin changing. You should do the same. I just wish I knew what to wear. Maybe FEMA will start handing out some kind of kit.
I'm was beginning to think the GOP was running on fumes at this point, especially if this is what they consider America's most important issue. What about Gas prices? Immigration? Education? Environment? Well they may have topped themselves with the all important...*drum roll* estate tax debate. Yes folks, the GOP really gives a frig about the 2% of people this idiotic law covers. Why? Cause those are usually the richest among us. And, oh my god, these poor people need protecting more than any other. *Blood curling scream* Ok I feel better now.
Lunacy run amok, that's what I think. But then comes the news that the RIGHT has truly left all forms of rational thought behind in a pathetic beyond belief attempt to win in November. The third most important issue in the country? Flag burning. Are you kidding me? I mean come on you gave us two issue's to laugh at you about, you really wanna make it 3 for 3? Nah. I think we rational people can see what the RIGHT is telling us...
RNC Chairman (Ken Mailman): (addressing his fellow lawmakers before the final vote on the gay hate amendment) "No one panic, gay marriage will save us again. Hey it worked in 2004, why not in 2006? and 08 and 10, hell I think we can ride this pony for years to come. The nutbags like Pat Robertson, Jerry FATwell and James Dobson will keep preaching the hate to their sheep as long as we keep promising to butt rape the constitution. And I don't wanna hear anyone of you sheep talking about the fact that we have *voice rises* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO chance of ever passing this piece of crap amendment. Cause then *whispers* our brainless followers might wise up and realize we're just blowing smoke up their skirts to stay in power. Cause look at our platform leading to November. If this fails....WE'RE ROYALLY SCREWED."
p.s. i love you ann coulter.
The Duh Vinci Code vs. the Invisible dude in the sky
This whole Christianity vs. Da Vinci Code crap has gotten out of hand. So out of hand that people (the not so bright among us) have opened entire discussion lists on Yahell and Gurgle for this purpose. What possible reason could you have for writing 12 and 15 paragraph messages, two and three times a day in response to some small minded bigot without a clue. Picking apart each piece of misinformation this clown dares to point to in an attempt to have someone, hell anyone, agree with him. It's so comically pathetic. It's sorta like the old muslim vs. christianity battle, one bunch of wacko's vs another trying to convince the masses that "the invisible man in the sky" they pray to is superior to the one the other nutbags pray to.
Anyway, I was reading a group featuring a discussion about the da vinci
code vs. bible and what follows is one of the funniest responses I've
ever read.
Joey Jo Jo wrote: The Da Vinci is a stupid book written by a plagorist. The movie was boring. So why is everyone geting all pissed about this book? They are so sensitive about questions towards their religion because they know people who believe in the Bible have such warped and pliable minds that a cheesy book like the Da Vinci code could talk them out of believing in Jesus and Christianity. That is truly priceless. I love this whole battle. Da Vinci Code vs. Christians. It's like a battle of people who like to read unsofisticated garbage versus a group of warped cultists while the rest of us normal smart people are on the sidelines laughing. Why can't both of you just enjoy your fictional books and not throw mud? Because you're both obviously stupid.
p.s. Tongue in cheek here folks.
Oh yeah...I Did Just Go There...And I'm Coming Back Soon
It does bug me though that every song in this genre suddenly comes out sounding the same. Am I wrong on that? I realize it's been a while since I switched my musical tastes to a more funk and r&b oriented sound, but has it really been that bad a year for Country? Or was this just a bad bad awards show? I mean afterall shows like this are supposed to represent the best of the industry and at the same celebrate the greatness of the longtime favorite artists and hot newcomers. For instance how hot is Carrie Underwood and how lame is her album? It sounds like Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Julie Roberts and virtually every other female in the genre. Shows you what happens when a IDOL takes a trip down Music Row. The men are a little more diverse (Keith Urban, Toby Keith and Tim McGraw are very creative) but it's no great difference still, most of them are nothing more than a flash in the pan "hat act."
So again about the awards themselves, are you tellin me that Sara Evans with her annoying single "Suds in a Bucket" (Simon hates that one, ME to) is the best female vocalist in Country music? That is so laughable. And how many times have Brooks and Dunn won the duo award? 30 or 40 years in a row now? Apparently no other duo is deserving of the award (Big & Rich or Montgomery/Gentry are more deserving this year). When are the Grammy's again?
I also wonder why the truly different acts like Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson are not more central to the ceremonies, now those are THE most hard to define acts in Country. "Country Without Prejudice" is the way Big Kenny describes his and John Rich's music and unfortunately for them, in Country, that's hardly a welcomed slogan. Don't believe me? Take a hard look at the number of chart topping COUNTRY artists in the last 30 years that have been non-white. Charley Pride and Neal McCoy comes to mind and ummm....that's pretty much it. That is so sad, it's not just blacks that have been seemingly blackballed by most on the slowly dying Music Row, it's also artists with a different sound or opinions that have seen themselves on the outside looking in. Why does this happen? To preserve the "Nashville Sound," many will tell you. I don't buy it, it's just "So Hard" to.
So as I have been told by several friends since leaving the Country genre behind in my listening habits, "Lubbock or Leave It," well I'm gonna leave it and let those who still love it, suffer and carry the torch of the genre on. I hope one day Country/Music Row will wake up and realize that it's the last remaining truly defined genre and without significant change it may not survive.
P.S. To the buttplugs who run Country radio, here's to those slowly failing arbitron ratings, "I Hope" one day you bastards really get what you deserve.
A Mentally Re*tarded Child
Color me severely pissed when I discovered that the world's newest ep guides site, TvRage.com, had some of my material submitted to it without my consent. That didn't make me mad, what pissed me off was some waterhead retard not only stole my intro to my Step By Step episode guide, but tried to add two sentences to the beginning to make it look original. It still would not have been so damn bad if it had been written by a person with a IQ above 60, it was obvious that the two sentences had been added by someone else. And "that" someone else should never be allowed near a computer keyboard again.
My take on this whole situation is this: If you wanna steal my material, you don't even have to credit me, just leave it intact so it sounds good, unless you have the writing skills to at least expand it without sounding idiotic.
It was ALL my idea....lol
"An episode guide for a daily soap is pointless."
This is what I was told back in the early days of TvTome when I asked about being editor for the "General Hospital" guide. But never the less I was given the oppurtunity and ran with it. Patiently and steadily building a massive guide that contained over 1200 episodes from the past seasons with a synopsis to each one. Not to mention the new episodes to which I added writer credits, guest stars, quotes and on most days a review of the storylines. My success with the GH guide, lead others to pick their fav soaps and start building guides of their own.
When I started the GH guide, all of the other soap guides barely had an updated cast list, let alone a daily guide to the goings on in Port Charles, Llanview or Oak City. It simply wasn't something that was done. But within a few short months after I began, some very creative people took over the Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives and Young and the Restless guides and made them very successful, much like my own GH guide (without the messive depth of back episodes though).
Fast forward to today and look at the great guides that are available for the shows, so much info and so easy to access. I feel proud that I had a hand in starting the whole thing. This makes all of the long hours and hardwork I put into building the guide well worth the effort. You're welcome....lmao.
A great what if...
That night ABC got brave and debuted two new scripted drama's on it's Saturday night schedule. One was a much hyped but little watched anthology drama named "Gun," from famed director Robert Altman. That was the nights big debut @ 10. But an hour earlier (9 pm) and with much less fanfare came a new drama intitled, "Leaving LA," all about the Los Angeles Coroner's Office. While it wasn't high concept it certainly was very enjoyable and if it had become a hit, TV history would have been changed forever. How you may ask?
Well this little gold nugget was anchored by two of today's most recognizable faces in prime time. Those being, Chris "Christopher" Meloni of SVU and Melina Kanakaredes of CSI: NY, it also counted among it's regular cast, current big screen diva, Hilary Swank.
So think about what could have happened if this series had become a hit for ABC. Which in all honesty could have happened had it not been buried on Saturday night cause the series was very enjoyable. Kanakaredes and Meloni's later series (Providence, SVU and CSI: NY) may and prolly would have looked drastically different upon their debuts. Ain't it too bad that ABC was in too big a hurry "Leaving LA?"
