Nintendo Game Boy makes the Toy Hall of Fame!
The best-selling portable system ever is now a hall of famer.
In honor of its revolutionary features and impact on pop culture, Nintendo's original Game Boy has been inducted into The National Toy Hall of Fame.
"Over the past two decades, Game Boy has become synonymous with hand-held gaming fun" the Hall said in a release. "Its portability and efficient design, ability to allow simultaneous multiplayer gaming, and scores of intriguing games (like Tetris and Super Mario Land, featuring Nintendo's already-iconic character Mario) make it a true innovator."
The Game Boy beat out nine othertoys -- including Hot Wheels, Cabbage Patch Kids and the Rubik's Cube -- to earn a spot as one of three inductees in this year'sgroup. The others? The iconic Big Wheel and the ubiquitous "ball," which somehow took a decade before getting the green light. Who's voting on these things, anyway?
Nintendo's potent portable is now the second video game system to earn Hall honors, joining the landmark Atari 2600, which was inducted in 2007.
Do you HAVE to be the first person with the new game?
I was just curious about why people line up at midnight or wait in lines for hours in order to be the "first on the block" with the newly released game. I never understood this concept. If a new game comes out, it will still be available the next morning or even the following week.
I know people will say they have to be the first to beat the game or get the secrets but what happens after that? If you get it right away and beat the game in a week doesn't that kill the whole point of playing the game for fun? I always wait for the new games to be reduced in price and I still appreciate them as much as if I was the first to buy it at the full retail price. I dont need the collectors edition or the special poster that comes with the game, just give me a good game with lots of replay value at a good price and I am happy.
Everyone is over excited about MW2 and I hope it's an amazing game but it will still be just as amazing at $30 as opposed to $60. Maybe it's just me, but I just dont see the hype about owning a game right away at full price. It's possible that with all the online playing time that people log in now-a-days that having the game early will help you when playing against people online, and that would make sense. But if you were good at games in general then you probably wouldn't need all that extra playing time.
I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble with this blog, I just wanted to voice my opinon.
HALLOWEEN Madness 2009!
So Halloween 2009 has passed and once again it was a wild and crazy weekend. I live in NYC and attended 3 crazy parties that lasted untl the sun came up. For both parties I was dressed as Zorro, complete with mask, cape, sword and hat. On Friday night I was at Pacha and saw some really crazy costumes, left at 5am. On Saturday night I was at M2 and Suzy Wong's and saw even crazier costumes alog with a freak show. The freak show had guys hanging by their skin and you could staple money to their bodies.
Gotta love this holiday!
What was everyone else dressed up as?
Video game enemies that killed you in one hit! Help me Create a list!
I was thinking about some of my older games and was remembering some of theBoss fights and mini enemies that if allowed to get too close, can kill you in one hit no matter how strong you were. I can't remember all of them so I will need some assistance in creating this list. I am not talking about the SMB or Contra games that didnt not have an energy bar, but game characters that would have a special attack that basically had no defense.
Here are a few to get the list started:
1 - Toneberry (FF series) - He had the knife attack that if struck, would kill a character instantly
2 - Bahamut (FFII SNES) - If you didn't cast reflect on your own party, his Mega-Flare caused 9999 damage no matter how strong or what level your characters were.
3 - Mike Tyson (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out NES) - If he connected in the first 2 minutes of round one, you didn't get up.
4 - Emerald Weapon (FFVII) - This underwater weapon would have a timer and once it was up, if he wasn't dead, your team certainly was.
5 - Chainsaw Zombie (RE4) - Yeah, this one wasn't pretty at all.
That can be the first 5... help me add to this list!
Should I sell my NES collection of 300 games and various accessories?
I have been debating this topic with myself for a long time, especially since most NES games can be downloaded for use on the Wii or other game consoles. Do I really need to keep the original hard cartridges? All together, including copies, I have about 300 NES games. I even have some complete with original box and manuals.
As for accessories I have the NES Advantage, NES Four Score, Orange light gun and gray light guns, several normal controlers and 3 actual working NES consoles. I refurbished them with new 72 pin connections.
I wonder how much I would actually get for a collection like this? I have many rare games and complete sets of games. For example: Lolo I, II, III andBases Loaded I, II, III, IV and Dragon Warrior I, II, II, IV (Complete with boxes!) and Adventure Island I, II, III. Some rare games are: Captain Comic, Contra Force, Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball, North & South, Fire N Ice and also a couple of those black cartridge bible games. I am sure I have more but I can't think of any right now.
What is the gerneral opinion? I am open to suggestions...
