Do you HAVE to be the first person with the new game?
I was just curious about why people line up at midnight or wait in lines for hours in order to be the "first on the block" with the newly released game. I never understood this concept. If a new game comes out, it will still be available the next morning or even the following week.
I know people will say they have to be the first to beat the game or get the secrets but what happens after that? If you get it right away and beat the game in a week doesn't that kill the whole point of playing the game for fun? I always wait for the new games to be reduced in price and I still appreciate them as much as if I was the first to buy it at the full retail price. I dont need the collectors edition or the special poster that comes with the game, just give me a good game with lots of replay value at a good price and I am happy.
Everyone is over excited about MW2 and I hope it's an amazing game but it will still be just as amazing at $30 as opposed to $60. Maybe it's just me, but I just dont see the hype about owning a game right away at full price. It's possible that with all the online playing time that people log in now-a-days that having the game early will help you when playing against people online, and that would make sense. But if you were good at games in general then you probably wouldn't need all that extra playing time.
I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble with this blog, I just wanted to voice my opinon.

As you said about the part where people ruin the fun over themselves, some people play a new game non stop for like 5+ hours a day, and after they finish it in less than a week, they complain that the game is too short or has no fun content.
I was going to get MW2 but I got called-in to work early so I couldn't go by and get it before work. Also, I don't have a high-speed Internet connection at my house, so i don't play games online I have to go by a friends house and use his to do anything online.
