WWE - What he Hell Are They Thinking?/ROH Upcoming Wars
AS of a few weeks ago, Vicki Guerrero (who no longer deserves to call or consider herself a Guerrero) has become general manager of RAw as well as Smackdown. WHAT THE HELL IS WWE THINKING?! As if it wasn't bad enough to have to listen to Vicki poorly delivered promos once a week, now I am burdened with having to put up with her crap two days a week.
Secondly, what in the hell is the rationalle behind putting Kane and Mark Henry in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match? Can either of those men ever hope to climb a ladder and retrieve that breifcase. Does anyone actually want to see Mark Henry or Kane get a shot at the title.
Thridly, what the hell is the rationalle behind giving JBL the Intercontinental Title? I understand wanting to give CM Punk a push as Intercontinental Champion, but is JBL really the guy to do it? How many times has JBL put on boring matches in big-match situations? To say that the answer to that question is "numerous" would be an understatement.
Every single week, the WrestleMania hype gets bigger and bigger, but I seem to care less and less. None of these angles are really that good, with the possible exception of Triple H vs. Orton...and even that really isn't that good.
serious about this Vicki Guerrero business. What the hell are to bookers thinking!!!!!?????
ROH - Upcoming Wars
With the return of Chris Hero to ROH, and seemingly in prime form, we are going to see the renewal of a feud of a few years ago. Chris Hero vs. Eddie Kingston tore up CZW and Chikara for over a year. The matches were some of the most brutal matches in the history of CZW and Chikara, and I can't wait to see the **** hit the fan again.
Secondly, the rivalry between Jerry Lynn and Nigel McGuinness is heating up every week. I think that we are finally going to to see Jerry Lynn get a shot at McGuinness for the tile. Whether or not Lynn wins is relatively immaterial. If he can go out there and hang with Nigel, arguably the best pure wrestler in the world today, I think that Jerry Lynn will finally be able to get the closure and affirmation that he needs and deserves.
WWE Gone Crazy/TNA and the Empty Arena
With Edge now possessing the thw World Heavyweight Title, and Triple H with the WWE Title, both Titles are SmackDown property. At least that is the case until the draft. Undoubtedly, I think that Edge will be drafted to RAW. But for the purposes of WM25, it makes no sense!!! We have seen Edge vs. Cena about a billion times! They wrestled each other week after week about two years ago. Triple H and Orton just wrestled about 6 months ago. Neither one of these matches seems at all fresh or fidderent. The certainly don't feel like WrestleMania matches. They feel more like throwaway matches form a Monday Night RAW of a SmackDown.
I have no doubt that Triple H and Orton should have a good match, Cena and Edge I'm not sure about. I can't really even elaborate much more on any of this stuff, because it makes no sense.
TNA and the Empty Arena match.
Last week's edition of TNA Impact was the best I have seen in months. The main event, STing vs. Angle in an Empty Arena Fight, was great. My only complaint is that the two men didn't just fight until the cameras had to stop rolling. I think they should have fought off the air. The match was obviously a ratings booster, and it served it's purpose. But if they really wanted to boost ratings they should have had the two men fight off the air and let people wonder about what happened. Let them turn on the show next week to find out. Big ups to all the rest of the wrestlers featured in last week's show. While the promos are still bad, with the possible exception of Roode and Storm's promo, the in-ring action was very good. Angelina Love and Taylor Wilde put on one of the best Knockouts matches I've seen in a while.
Hopefully TNA is heading toward an upswing in quality in the next few months. I will be tuning in this week for the first time in a long while to see what happens.
Thoughts on No Way Out 2009
***SPILER ALERT!!!***
This entry contains info in last night's No Way Out 2009 PPV. Here are your options
1. Don't read this. Find a video sharing site (because your an idiot if you waste your money on the PPV replay) and watch it.
OR
2. Take five minutes to read this and save yourself the 3 hours of agony, disgust, and contempt that you might otherwise feel while watching No Way Out 2009.
There are two words that describe NWO2009: mediocre filler. No Way OUt is (and prettymuch always has) been just a filler PPV leading up to WrestleMania. In past years, however, the show has yeilded some much better matches than this year's show.
The Smackdown Elimination Chamber was entertaining, but not what you usually expect from an Elimination Chamber. It certainly did not live up to the original Elimination Chamber, but then again, not many matches do live up to their original incarnations.
Triple H winning the title was unexpected, but not a shocker. Triple H is a man you can trust to carry a title into WrestleMania. He almost guarantees a good WrestleMania main event (depending on who he wrestles). I had honestly expected WWE to capitalize on Jeff Hardy's huge popularity. Right now, Jeff equals money ($$$), and I figured they'd realize that a Jeff vs. Matt main event at WrestleMania is a dream match for many fans, a match that might get them some more PPV buys come WrestleMania, but apparently the Smackdown bookers are just as confused as the RAW bookers.
Randy Orton vs. Shane was probably the most boring and unnecessary No Holds Barred match of all time. The problem with WWE sometimes is that they do not understand this one simple fact: hardcore does not always equate a good match. This match was boring!!! Neither man (or the crowd for that matter) felt like they gave a crap about the match. This was undoubtedly the worst match Shane has ever been involved in. He has had some entertaining matches in the past, but this was not one of them.
I understand the need to have Ortonon this card. He is probably the best heel in WWE right now, with the possible exception of Jericho. Both men have real "heel heat", while Edge just has "go away heat". That said, couldn't they have picked somebody more skilled than Shane to take out Orton, or rather to make a poor attempt at taking out Orton?
Swagger vs. Finlay was not a bad match. It was pretty much what I expected. It was a descent catch-as-catch-can bout. Swagger is impressive, and I think the ECW title is going to be the least of his career accomplishments in a few years. However, I am damn sick of Hornswaggle. He was entertaining...three years ago, but not anymore.
Shawn Michaels vs. JBL was the second worst match on the card. Not even Michaels could salvage this match from the absolute bordom and contempt that JBL arouses in me. This storyline could have been so much more compelling if it had been anybody but JBL. His character itself is the only thing that facilitated him being involved in this story with Michaels. Other than that, there isn't anything that qualifies JBL to EVER step into a ring with Shawn Michaels. This was a horrible ending to a potentially god storyline.
The RAW Elimination Chamber was without a doubt the most entertaining match of the evening. While I thought it was crap that Edge won the belt, it was not really a shocker to me. The only good things that might come of this is that Vicki Guerrero may have seen her last television appearance (yahoooooo!!!!!!) and maybe Edge can get some legitimate "heel heat" instead of the heat he has from being associated to the disgrace that is Vicki Guerrero.
To be quite honest, I did not expect Triple H and Edge to be leaving No Way Out as Champions. I am hoping that this does not lead to Edge vs. Cena at WM25.
I doubt that Matt or Jeff will be involved with the main event on Smackdown. My money is on Triple H vs. Undertaker. There have been rumors swirling for months about Taker's retirement match at WM25. After being fired from WWE, Bruce Pritchard even posted the original storyline plans for the angle on the internet. Obviously they will not be going forward with those plans (unless the bookers are smoking crack with Jake the Snake), but we may see a similar incarnation involving Taker and Triple H.
Bad Booking Abounds IN WWE and TNA
It seems lately that both WWE and TNA bookers are unable to do anything that makes a damn bit of sense.
Let's start with the current Randy Orton angle. Randy Orton is undoubtedly the best wrestler on the WWE roster now. He has improved so much over the past few months, solidly establishing himself as top heel over Edge, who seems to me more and more of a joke. The longer Edge is linked to Vicki Guerrero, the less credibility he will be able to retain. However, that is neither here or there. Well, it might be there, but not her.
Pardon my digression.
Randy Orton has been established as the baddest man in the WWE, a sociopath, and potential psychopath. This would be a great way to pump up Cena vs. Orton (or whoever has the belt at WM25). Of course, you have to make sure that Orton has a spot on the No Way Out card. He's hot and he needs to be on that card. So who is it that Stephanie McMahon chooses to take Randy Orton down a peg. Maybe it could be the Undertaker. Maybe it could be Triple H, which would make sense after the comments Orton made about Stephanie. Hell, maybe it could even be Kane, although we've seen that match recently and damn was it boring. Nope, it's none of the above. She picks Shane McMahon!
Shane has not wrestled a match in nearly two years, and while I enjoy his matches when they do happen, this current angle is certainly not to be believed. Especially after seeing Shane toss around the entire Legacy on Raw a few weeks back.
Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to the match, just because Shane is nuts and will do just about anything in a no holds barred situation, but certainly a no holds barred match with Triple H or Taker would have held so much more potential.
TNA's booking has been nothing short of atrocious for over a year now, closer to two years in fact. My current gripe is there misuse and misallocation of talent. Not that word...talent. TNA is releasing (in essence at least) Petey Williams, Lnace Hoyt, and Jimmy Rave. All three of these men have proven themselves to be incredible compitent in the ring. Of course they certainly don't have the charisma of Sting or Scott Steiner, or (ooooooh, oh my god) Kevin Nash. Since text doesn't translate speech that well, let me note that my last comment was sarcastic in the extreme. God forbid that three great WRESTLERS get a descent spot on the TNA roster. Nope, we need to make way for Sting, Booker T, Nash, and Steiner, a bunch of past-their-prime glory hogs. It's idiocy run rampent!!!
While I have my gripes about Kurt Angle's lack of talent in the promo department, he goes all out in the ring, and I'll credit him for that. As far as the rest of the MEM is concerned, they can all take a flying leap.
I read about more petentially horrible TNA booking just a few minutes ago. Stevie Richards has been signed to the TNA roster. That is not my problem. Stevie is a great wrestler. He has reinvented himself in the past few years, as far as his in-ring style goes, and deserves a spot somewhere. My problem is what TNA has planned for him. Stevie is supposedly going to feud with Abyss. With Abyss heading back toward his old monstrous self, this could just be build-up for the possible (and the bookers might be smoking crack if they don't capitalize on this idea) Abyss vs. Mick Foley angle.
Now let's be honest, we can all see how this is going to go. Abyss is going to destroy a bunch of guys smaller than he is. He'll go on a tear for the next three or four months, and maybe we'll se Abyss vs. Foley at Slamiversary. This is an incredible uncreative and unoriginal setup. It's essentially exactly what has been done with Abyss for his entire TNA career, Except his recent stint with the incredibly untalented Matt Morgan (who by the way just underwent shoulder surgery, and boy do I not care if he ever returns).
Let's get back to WWE now, since I was on the subject of past-their-primers earlier. Ric Flair is set to return in some capacity at WM25. While I will never deny Flair's talent as an entertainer or a wrestler, isn't he supposed to be retired?! I'll admit that last years retirement match and speech brough a tear to my eye, and that is why he sould not be back so damn soon. I have always hated how Flair can never just step aside and let the new generation do it's thing. God forbid that the youung guys not have the "incomparable" Ric Flair around to tell them what to do. I respect everything flair has done, but his time is over!!!
After the last year of Flair appearing at indy shows and conventions, charging $100 bucks a pop for an autograph or picture, his promo on Monday night rang hollow. "I don't mind giving and autograph...I don't mind taking a picture with them." Sure Ric, as long as theres a C-not in it for you, why the hell not. The progression of pro wrestling has been held back for so long by guys like Flair. People don't want to see 1970s style wrestling every week anymore (somebody please tell that to Adam Pearce and the boys at NWA also). They want to see 70s style wrestling on DVD, no on Monday Night Raw! ROh (yes, I realize I'm getting to be an ROH fanboy) is a perfect example of integration of the new and olds styles. That is what WWE needs to shoot for. Bringing Flair back over and over again does nothing to progress the business. It does nothing to hook new fans. It might bring in some extra money from the older generation, looking to see if Flair's still got "it", but in the end it just screws over the young up-and-comers.
Royal Rumble Review/WWE and ROH News
The 2009 edition of WWE's Royal Rumble PPV was much as I expected it to be. It had to be seen, simply because it is the Rumble, but other than that, it was not spectacular.
Matt Hardy and Jack Swagger started off the show. They put on a well-wrestled match, the result of which was no surprise to me. Swagger retained the title in convincing fashion. I like Swagger as ECW Champion and we will be seeing more of it.
Next, Beth Phoenix and Melina put on a marginally interesting match, the results of which were uninteresting to me. Melina was able to pick up a win after being beaten nearly out of her boots for most of the match.
The World Title match between Cena and JBL was nothing spectacular. The story in this match, as everyone knew it would be, was the actions of Shawn Michaels. Michaels delivered a WCM to each man...but in the end decided to place JBL on top of Cena for the pin. However, Cena being the overblown Hulk Hogan reincarnation that he is, kicked out and picked up to win a fews moments later. The ramifications of this match, between Michaels and JBL of course, should be seen tonight on RAW.
Edge and Jeff Hardy put on a good match. Again, the match was not spectacular. In the end, my predictions came true. Matt Hardy screwed his brother out of the WWE Title via a charshot to the head. The reaction from the crowd was HOT. Honestly, I can't believe that everyone hasn't seen this coming since Survivor Series. The ramification of this match should be very interesting.
The Royal Rumble match itself was the best on the card, mostly because of its chaotic nature. It was not the best Rumble of all time, by any stretch of the imagination. Shelton Benjamin put on a good performance, as did Kan and Undertaker. Rey Mysterio lasted over 45 minutes, entering at number 2. Ted DiBiasi Jr. also lasted over a half an hour. Of course, as I predicted (and with no insider help, thank you very much), Randy Orton came away with the win and the shot at WrestleMania 25.
In his most recent blog post, Paul Hayman has been quoted as saying that the Age of Orton is "INDEED UPON US!"
As Paul--and anyone else for that matte-- can see, Orton has raised himself to a level that is unsurpassed by any performer in the current WWE. His win at the Rumble marks yet another step in the "youth movement" in WWE. As Heyman points out, none of the seasoned vets have title at this point, Michaels, Taker, and Triple H included. The titles are all on young guys. Each one of those young guys is an extremely talented performer. WWE finally seemes to be looking toward the future of the business and not the past.
yesterday before the Rumble, Christian Cage was reported as being involved in the match...but was not...unless I'm wrong. My stream cut out for a period of over eight minutes last night when watching on my computer (friggin technology!). I surmised that Finaly and Undertaker enterd during that time...but do not know who else.
I would now assume that Christian will be premiering on a SmackDown some time soon. Something between he and Edge is said to be cooking. Could we possibly see two awesome matches like Edge vs. Christian and Matt vs. Jeff at WrestleMania 25? We shall see.
Ring of Honor has announced that they are entering into a long term partnership with HDNet. Coming soon, ROH will have their own weekly show on HDNet. Owner Mark Cuban and ROh President Carey Silken both seem very pleased with the deal. Could this be the start of a rise for ROH? I sure as hell hope so.
Stay tuned for further developments in the upcoming days.
White Heat Coming for Matt Hardy?/Who Will Win the Rumble?
The Road to WrestleMania begins tonight!!!
This is my favorite time of the year!
WWE has not seen any true "white heat" since the fued between Triple H and Steve Austin back in calendar year 2001. It stands, at least to me, as one of the best fueds in WWE history. Some great creative things were done during the fued; capitalizing on the Austin being hit by a car angle, Austin dropping Triple H from the forklift (even though he was obviously not in the car), and the inception of the 3 Stages of Hell match.
I think that with the shift from Face to possible Super Heel drawing nearer each week for Matt Hardy, we could truly see some white heat. Jeff Hardy is the most popular WWE Champion is a long time, poddibly barring John Cena. Jeff is not just another Champion. He truly is a representative for the misfits and screw-ups of the world. he is loved by teenage girls and accepted by hardcore nonconformists alike. Even most of the original ECW fanatics I know love Jeff. He is a guy that would have been right at home during the hayday of the true ECW. His name is included on the list of the most hardcore guys ever to set foot into the hallowed halls of WWE. My point is that when Matt is revealed--and it will be a supreme swere for all the marks that take it as WWE gives it to them--he could be on the end of the most hatred since Triple H vs. Austin. It could make for some great action in and out of the ring
Also, with the Royal Rumble mat itself approximately eighteen hours or so away, who will be this years winner?
I think that Randy Orton has a great shot at it, especially after the events of this weeks RAW. Triple H has been pushed a lot lately, and he can never be counted out. There is a reason that he is and has been the best in the business for damn near ten years now. Undertaker is also a man who can never be counted out. I think he has one last title reign in him before his inevitable retirement. Vladamir Koslov is also a descent bet. He has been getting pushed, although he doesn't seem to have gotten over as the destroyer that WWE wishes him to be seen as. My money would have previously been on Matt Hardy, but as it turns out he will not be in the Rumble this year. he will be rematching Jack Swagger (who has been in prime form as of late) for the ECW Title. However, there are other ways of getting Matt into the main event at WrestleMania with Jeff. So I would say that Orton has the edge.
Christian's return is also drawing very near. The rumor that he will return at the Rumble is still circulating but not yet confirmed. It has also been said that he may return on SmackDown after the Rumble. I guess we'll all se later tonight. Anyway, If Matt ends up being in collusion with Edge, or even if he is not, the possiblity of a Mat and Edge vs. Christian and Jeff tag team match is very possible in the near future. What a Twisto fo Fate that would be...pun thoroughly intended. 0
Anyway, take my musing and ranting as you will. My connections to the "business" are minmal to say the lwast, but as a long time observer of all kinds of pro wrestling, I like to think I understand how the business works. In all real likelihood I'm just another mark, a smarter mark, but a mark nonetheless. But we'll see if I'm right or not.
Birds of Prey on DVD
Here's a collector's item for the Batman, or just general DC Comics fan. Last year the Birds of Prey TV series was released in it's entirety in a DVD box set.
The show aired in 2002, and was roughly based on the comic book of the same name. It had the highest ratings on the WB at the time, expecially in the covetted 18-34 age group. However, for reasons unknown to me, it was still cancelled after only 13 episodes. I guess there wasn't enough room for another DC Comics based show on the same network as Smallville. Being that I'm a bigger fan of the Batman universe than the Superman universe, that annoys me to no end.
Anyway, for about 40 bucks plus tax, you can now own the series in it's entirety.
This week's Smackdown gives more creedance to Hardy vs. Hardy
If you saw this week's WWE Smackdown, you know that the newest development in the Jeff Hardy storyline is a hit and run accidnet. Jeff was coming home from a party where his brother Matt was present. I think that this gives more creedance to my theory that WWE is looking to put on a Hardy vs. Hardy match at WrestleMania 25.
At this point it looks like Matt will be turning heel, but will it be before or after WrestleMania? Will he wrestle Jeff at Mania with his face status intact, win the belt, and then reveal his involvement in Jeff's Survivor Series attack, and now consequent hit and run incient? Or will he go heel before WrestleMania. Either way, the match will be huge, definitely worthy of a WrestleMania main event.
Michelle McCool also seems to have reached full heel status once again. She is also sporting a new Frontface Piledriver finishing maneuver. Whether she is a face or a heel, she is definitely one of the most talented women on the WWE Divas roster. While the Bella Twins seem to be evolving and imporving in the ring, they don't have the personality to be very much for very long. But then again, Stephanie McMahon was at one time Women's Champion, so anything can happen.
We are finally going to get to see HHH vs. Koslov one on one, and I can't wait. Although Koslov still doesn't seem to be getting much attention from the fans, positive or negative, there is no question of what he is capable of. I think he can be a prime heel, and his upcoming match with HHH could be the one to establish him as such. HHH vs. Koslov will not be pretty, nor will it be for the weak of heart. It will be as brutal is can be without a hardcore stipulation. This match will be about striking, submissions, and catch as catch can wrestling...no doubt. It has been rumored that Christian Cage was present at this week's RAW in the backstage. My theory that he will be a surprise entry in the Royal Rumble may not stand up. There are some rumors that he will be making his re-debut on Smackdown. Whether it will be preRumble or postRumble, I haven't heard or read. I hope to talk about the Hardy vs. Hardy possibilities and the return of Christian Cage with Eric Gargiulo on this Saturday's edition of Pro Wrestling Radio. It airs at 12 PM EST/11 AM CST/8 AM PST, can't say what time that is in the mountains or in Hawaii.
Check it out live on the radio station's site, the call letters and URL of which escape me. I'll get it up tomorrow. Or look for it later in the day on iTune under the podcast section.
How Much Longer Until the Hardys Face Off?
Matt Hardy is the current ECW Champion, and has been maintaining a face status for quite a while now. How much longer can it be until he turns heel. On the heels (no pun intended) of Jeff Hardy gaining the WWE Title, a Hardy vs. Hardy fued seems inevitable to me.
With the confirmation of a Smackdown Elimination Chamber match to take place at No Way Out, it leaves me wondering if Hardy, Matt that is, will be involved in the match. I can only think of four names certain to be featured: Koslov, HHH, Edge, and Jeff. This leaves spots open for two more guys, possibly Matt and Shelton Benjamin.
I guess the real determinant will be who wins the Royal Rumble. With Christain Cage gone from TNA and rumored to have already resigned with WWE, one might think that he will be a "suprise" entry at this months Royal Rumble. He could be the man slated to win, but more likely to me it would be Matt Hardy. WWE needs to capitolize on the potential heat and pop of a Hardy vs. Hardy fued while both guys are still hot. At this point Matt is hot, and Jeff Hardy spouts flames every time he walks down the ramp.
Christian's return also brings up more possibilities. Could Edge and Christain be tagging again? It has been rumored that upon his return, Christian will be linked to Edge in some way. Of course that could mean as a tag partner, or as an opponent. With Mat and Jeff as hot as they are now, Edge at prime heel status, and Christian sure to get a huge pop upon his return, the possibility of a E&C vs. Hardys fued could do a lot to relegitamize the WWE Tag Titles, and the tag division in general. I'm not knocking guys like London and Kendrick, Miz and Morrison, or the Colons, but let's face it, the most recent era of great tag competition in WWE was the late 90s and early 2000s.
I could also forsee the huge possibility of the four men meeting in a four way TLC match at Summerslam. I say SummerSlam because time will be needed to build up to such a great match. If Matt is goin heel, those few months will give him time to firmly reestablish his heel cred. The first step to that would be to capitolize on the whole "who attacked Jeff at Survivor Series" thing. This is ow I'd do it (but then again, I'm not Freddy Prinz Jr. or any of the creative geniuses working for WWE right now...that's sarcasm). Have Matt win the Rumble and then lose to Jeff at WrestleMania. That way everybody gets their Hardy vs. Hardy match while both guys are still faces, and it makes the marks happy. Hell, it might even be better for Jeff to lose to Matt. It would set up a reason for Matt to admit his attack at Survivor Series. Have Christian reimerge at the Rumble as well, and put him in a fued with Edge. Eventually it can be worked so that both fueds end up entangeld in the TLC Fatal Four Way at SummerSlam. I don't know about anybody else, but I'd sure as hell pay to see a piece of the good old Attitude Era.
WWE History at Armageddon
On Sunday, December 14, 2008, at WWE Armageddon, history took place. Jeff Hardy has finally captured the WWE Title.
The entire card delivered in ways I had not expected it to. There were matches that seemed better than others, but there was not a single bad match. Orton an Batista put on a match that far surpasseed my expectations. Batista delivered quite possibly the best looking Batista Bomb of his career to gain the victory. Orton was at his best, in prime heel form.
Rey Mysterio and CM Punk, in their first ever encounter, put ona match that will not soon be forgotten.
Now that we know Punk will be facing Regal for the Intercontinental Title, I think I can come out and say that the upcoming fued between the two is just what both men need. Regal really needs to have a big feud at this point in his career. He needs to put himself back on the map as a prime heel, or face...who knows, with the WWE fans. CM Punk desperately needs to relegitamive himself to the WWE fans, even though he has not lost any of his legitamacy with fans like myself, after a transitional run with the World Heavyweight Title that did more to hurt him than help him.
The Divas put on an entertaining, if ot very important, match. It looks like Michelle McCool is going back to full heel status. It should work out well, based on the fact that she will be facing Maria. I mean, how can you not like Maria?
Matt Hardy and Vladamir Koslov opened up the show with a match that was also much more than I expected it to be. I have no doubt about the talent of either man, which seems to put me in a minority group as far as Koslov is concerned, but was unsure of how well their styles could mesh. The answer, very well. The match was not a show stealer, but it was a very good, solidly executed match.
Mark Henry put on one of the best performances of his entire career against Finlay in a Belfast Brawl. henry exhibited agility that he has long been billed as having, but never really shown. Finaly was every damn bit of the old Irish brawler that he is. He was in a prime form that reminded me of WCW days long past.
To his great credit, JOhn Cena put on a great match with Chris Jericho. Anyone who reads my random babblings, knows that I am not a Cena fan, but at Armageddon, he won me over just a littel bit more. Both men put on great performances in this match. There were multiple beautifully executed spots from each wrestler. In the end, as I knew would be the case, Cena picked up the win.
The highlight of the night, and everything it was billed to be, was the Triple Threat for the WWE Title. All three men--Edge, HHH, and Jeff Hardy--were at their absoulte best. This match was the most brutal display I have seen any of them involved in in a while. Apart form the brutality exhibited, there was alos grace, and the kind of technical superbity that can always be expected in any match involving the 13 time veteran, HHH.
Jeff Hardy finally did it. He got the company to look past his faults to his potential, and give him the title. I have seen damn near every match Hardy has wrestled on TV, and quite a few of his international and dark matches. What can I say, I have an addiction. I have seen his time in ROH, a time when it looked like JHeff was finished with wrestling. Well, he proved me and everybody else wrong. He did it.
Jeff Hardy's ascension to WWE Champion is a victory no only for himself, but for the counter-culture group within the general fandom of WWE. For all the guys like myself, fans more dedicated to the true ECW than to the WWE, Jeff has long been a hero. His victory at Armageddon is a victory fo all of us as well. Jeff Hardy has managed to show that being different can be the best thing in a persons life.
The only question now is, can Jeff handle the pressure. He has displayed poor decision making in the past, on all too many occasions. AFter watching him for the last year, I think he is truly ready. He has stepped up his game to its greatest level ever, and despite the few bad decsions that he has made, I think Hardy has finally learned his lesson. I hope that Hardy's run will e a legitimate run, not a transitional handoff to the next mark-magnet. I also hope wee will see Jeff's success lead to the success that his borther Matt also deserves. Jeff vs. Matt at WrestleMania sounds pretty damn good to me. Or get how about this? With Christian Cage returning to WWE at some point soon, we could see a WrestleMania Fatal Four Way featuring Jeff, Matt, Edge, and Christian. It is possible, now that Christain has established himself as a World Cahmp in TNA, and Jeff has finally grabbed the brass, or more appropirately gold, ring. Think of it...Four Way TLC match for the WWE Tile at the 25th anniversary of the gretest show of them all, WrestleMania. It gives me shivers just thinking about it!!!
ROH bakc on PPV...tonight!!!
Fans of indy wrestling rejoice! Ring of Honor makes it's return to PPV tonight, November 14, 2008. The second edition of ROH Driven is what you can check out if you've got DISH Network.
I can't remember all the matches on the card, but I can say that former ECW World Heavyweight Champion, The New F'n Show Jerry Lynn, will be competing. Nigel McGuinness will be taking on Roderick Strong for the ROH World Title. Chris Hero, The Briscoes, The Vulture Squad, and many others will also be in action.
If you don't check this out, you are going to be sorry.
ROH is having financial problems lately because of the economy and because some of their management is devoid of personal interest in the company.
Listen to me, ROH is the next big thing!!! Pay your ten bucks and check out this PPV. It could make a huge difference for the company, or at least help them out.
And if you're a WWE fan, these are the guys that will be showing up in WWE in the next few years, at least if ROH doesn't hit big that is. You owe it to yourself to check out guys like Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero, and Nigel McGuinnes out when they are at their best.
WWE has a number of former ROH guys now, and they are some of the big new names, names like Matt Sydel (Evan Borne), CM Punk, and others.
For ten dollars, you can see great quality wrestling, exciting action, and a that indy style that captured my heart in the hayday of ECW.
Check it out.
The Leviathan Chronicles
I feel that when something as extraordinary as The Leviathan Chronicles comes along, it is my given duty as a geek to pimp the hell out of it. The Leviathan Chronicles is an awesome podcast ausio drama written by Cristoff Laputka. It centers around a a group of people with enhanced abilities. And unlike the show Heroes, it's not a blatant ripoff of X-Men. It's sci-fi, and it's action. It technology and mythology.
I myself am very picky about what kind of sci-fi I like. I have very specific perameters. There is a little bit of alien appearance going on in The Leviathan Chronicles, but it is the kind I can deal with. There is also some government conspiracy going on, and that is the part that I love. I was a huge fan of X-Files and Leviathan has the same sort of X-Filesish feel to parts of it.
The production value of Leviathan is unparellelled by anything on the internet right now. The people at Pendant Productions do a great job with minimal technology, and the people at Darker Projects are very professional about their stuff, but Leviathan is one step above even them. The acting, the sounds, the music are all origianl and amazing.
And hey...IT'S FREAKIN FREE!!! What are you losing by checking it out.
I can personally guarantee that if you stick with it for the first three episodes, you'll be hooked through the lip like a squirming fish.
Guys out there like Cristoff give hope to an aspiring writer and lover of audio drama like myself.
Episode 15 has just dropped today, so you have a lot of catching up to do.
You can direct download or listen to episodes at www.theleviathanchronicles.com. Just go check out the triler, at least. It'll take all of thirty seconds.
You can also find Leviathan Chronicles by searching at the iTunes music store under podcasts.

Batman R.I.P.
Well, it's November, and the storylines of Batman R.I.P. are drawing to a close.
I have yet to start reading the "Big Leap" story running in NIGHTWING. In fact, I just finished the last 3 issues of the "Freefall" story yesterday. My time has been relly limited by all the classwork I've been doing lately, but yesterday one of my classes was cancelled, so I spent the extra time reading comic books. Which can get you a few weird looks in the college library, believe me.
I have finished the first 4 parts of the main Batman R.I.P. storyline running in BATMAN. The first thing I can say is that you really need to have read "Return of Ra's al Ghul" to understand some of it. I am missing a few details since I only started reading BATMAN a month before Return of Ra's. I am now following most of the Batman titles that DC released each months, and the related titles as well. From what I have read so far, there is a big revelation coming later this month in BATMAN #681. The identity of the Black Glove is going to be revealed. They have teased the possibility that it could be Thomas Wayne. Yes, Bruce's own father, but I find that unlikely, primarily because that is what they have been inferring. If it is to really be a revelation, it will be somebody completely unthought of. Either way, Batman seems to be in some deep sh**.
I have really enjoyed the first 4 issues of "Heart of Hush" running in DETECTIVE COMICS. I think that it is the best work Paul Dini has done in a long time. The last few months worth of DETECTIVE COMICS releases have been less than stellar. Dini has done a great job of making Hush a villian in this story. I felt that the original Hush was pretty well written by Jeph Loeb, but that Hush was a bit ambiguous at the time. There is nothing ambiguous about him in "Heart of Hush". The story also features some much wondered about background information on what turned Tommy Elliot into Hush.
I also have yet to start the 3 part "Outsiders No More" story running in BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS, and I completely missed the storyline that ran in ROBIN. I cannot seem to find the two issues anywhere now, except on EBay for more than I am willing to pay. I did check Wikipedia though, and they had some background and general info on the story. I don't think I missed all that much.
Anyway, later this month, both the double-sized conclusion of "Heart of Hush" and the conclusion of the main story in BATMAN will be hitting store shelves. I am still wondering if it's going to be as impactful as DC has bee promoting it to be. With the lives of Batmen from two different dimensions of the multiverse in jeopardy, or at least I am assuming that they have to be existing in two different dimensions of the multiverse, the mythology of Batman is certainly going to be changed one way or the other, but what will that change entail.
I find myself wishing that I had been reading the weekly TRINITY series, because I think that there may be a tie-in to Batman R.I.P. somwhere in there.
Anyway, anybody who really wants to know will be forking over there $3.99 for several different issues later this month. I know I will.
More on ROH
On the 10/29 edition of ROH Video Wire, there was footage of not only Homicide returning to ROH, but Hernandez appearing and wrestling as well. This leads me to believe, and take this for whatever it may be worth, that Homicide has not left TNA, but that it's more of a WWF/ECW talent exchange kind of thing.
Back in 1997, ECW was set to have their first PPV, "Barely Legal", and Vince McMahon decided that it would be good for the business to help Heyman and his boys out by providing them with some publicity in an ECW Invasion angle. In the end, of course, it didn't really matter. Paul Heyman's bad business practices took the company down.
I have to think that the appearance of Homicide and Hernandez, and maybe also the reimmergence of Jerry Lynn into in-ring competition, is much the same situation.
ROH represents the best of the indy circuit. They are undoubtedly the best indy company out there. They have the appeal of a hard-hitting, technical, and at times very fast paced style. They have the international aspect, because of their working relationship with the DragonGate and Pro Wrestling NOAH promotions in Japan and throughout Europe. They have great wrestlers like Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero, Brent Albright, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness, Necro Butcher, and Austin Aries, not to mention many other. These guys are the cream of the indy crop. At any time, these guys could be signed by WWE or TNA. As we know, Austin Aries already has spent time in TNA. WWE has benefitted from acquiring former ROH stars: CM Punk and Matt Sydel (Evan Borne) to be exact.
My point is when taking all these things into account, ROH could be months away from getting national television. However, they also seem to be a few bad business decisions from being extinct. It would be a good idea for either of the two big companies in the business to throw a little help toward ROH. The addition of a third wrestling company with national TV could be great for the business as a whole. We saw this breifly from about 1998 to 2000, when WWE, WCW, and ECW were all on national television each week.
It will be interesting to see what other stars from either of the two big companies may show up in ROH in the next few months. Keep in mind that Matt and Jeff Hardy have both spent time in ROH, as has Jamie Noble, Evan Borne, CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, A.J. Styles, and a lot more guys that are now on either the WWE or TNA roster.

ROH News
Just a few days ago, ROH booker--and former ECW brass--Gabe Sapolski was fired. In the past two years or so, ROH has been absolutely hemoraging money. Their recent aquisition of PPV might give the opposite impression, but they are not in good shape. It has been rumored that within the last two weeks, ROH has been very close to shutting down completely.
I don't know about anyone else out there, but the shutdown of ROH would put me in a decidedly bad mood. I love the style of ROH. The wrestlers are fantastic. However, the brass is not.
Eric Gargiulo spoke briefly about it on his show Pro Wrestling Radio today. Eric is a former ring announcer in the original ECW, and has announced all over in the indies: for CZW, ROH, MCW, and many other promotions. He knows a lot of the wrestlers and the brass from the indies. Of course the original owner of ROH was Rob Fienstein (yes, the fancam guy from ECW), later the ownership passed to Doug Gentry (also formerly of the ECW offices). Unfortunately, Doug Gentry passed away last year. After his death the ownership of ROH passed to Carey Silkin, and since then, ROH has incurred a number of problems. I am NOT badmouthing Carey ?Silkin. I appreciate all the work he and others do to bring me the ROH product. However, the two business associates of Carey in the top brass of ROH are not wrestling guys. They could care less about wrestling. According to Gargiulo, who is a very credible source, they don't care about much else than keeping their jobs.
You also have to ftake into account that the economy is bad, and people are not spending money to go to indy shows the way they used to. Indy bookers and promoters cannot spend the money necessary to draw the kind of crowds they need to make money. They can't afford to bring in a Samoa Joe or a guy of his equal calibur. Those are the guys that will draw big numbers.
Don't get me wrong, there are any number of great young guys out there that don't have the starpower of Joe, that are awesome wrestlers: Ruckus, Jack Evans, Brent Albright, and more. It's just that those guys don't have the recognition to bring in big numbers. It takes a very educated fan of the indy product to realize that these guys are every bit as good as a Samoa Joe, or a Jeff Hardy, or a CM Punk, or Evan Borne. Both of the last guys owe a lot to ROH in fact, as does Samoa Joe. Even Jeff Hardy has spent time in ROH after being fired from WWE.
What ROH needs is a selfless guy, with experience, to bring them to the forefront of the indy world. They need a star to get them onto national TV. Homicide is making his return to ROH, and Jerry Lynn is doing the same, but neither of those guys are the one that can push ROH toward getting Tv. ROH has attempted to book RVD, but he is apparantly not interested in bettering a great young company. I am a huge RVD fan, in the ring there is probably nobody more exciting, but the arrogance you see on TV is the arrogance you would see in real life. RVD is about RVD, period.
Anyway, the rumored motivation behind the firing of Gabe Sapolsky was a little Heyman/Tod Gordon action. By that I mea that the rumors are that Sapolski was planning to jump to a different company and take some big talent with him. If you remember, Tod Gordon (original owner of ECW) was fired by Paul Heyman for the exact same thing.
There are quite a few former associates and members of the ECW offices in ROH, and we are starting to see some very Heyman-esk business practices. This does not look good for ROH. They need a star, and they need him now!
WWE SmackDown, October 17, 2008
This week's edition of SmackDown was better than shows in the previous few weeks. Well, actually, last week's show was pretty good as well.
This week marked the first in-ring appearance of "The" Brian Kendrick's advisor Ezekial jackson. First I gotta say that Zeke needs to get some tights that fit better, it's a little disturbing watching a guy that big running around in tights that look like they're a size too small. I couldn't really tell how good or bad Zeke will be in the ring. He dispalyed impressive power against Super Crazy--ah, how the once mighty have fallen to the rank of jobber--but the match was so short, that it's hard to tell if Zeke has anything other than power.
Big Show desamated three poor young guys--including Matt Bently...or at least it looked like Matt Bently, they ddidn't actually say who the guys were--to give the fans and Undertaker an example of the matches they can coose from for CyberSunday. The choices ere, Knockout Match, Last Man Standing, and I Quit Match. My vote will be for I Quit Match. As far as I can remember, Undertaker has never been in an I Quit Match, and the potential violence of Undertaker vs. Big Show in I Quit is enough to have me foaming at the mouth...figuratively of course.
The divas took part in a Divas Las Vegas match, that really isn't worth talking about.
MVP was defeated by a continuingly impressive Ron Killings, or R. /Truth as they are calling him. Killings seems to have gotten his love for the sport back and looks great in the ring, although I still say he needs a new theme song.
Jeff Hardy vs. Koslov turned out to be much less than I expected. It was meant to be just a taste of the potential for the match that could take place at CyberSunday, pitting Triple H against both Hardy and Koslov.
Undertaker took on Great Khali--boring--and the match ended with the interferance of Big Show.
I am hoping for one hell of a mathc next week when Undertaker faces Triple H in a nontile match.
NWA Showcase from October 18, 2008
Saturday's NWA showcase was one of the most diverse in the shows three week history.
The first match was a strange teaming of international stars and one young guy. T.J. Perkins--who has impressed me as a future star--teamed with Rayo de Halisco to take on Ikuto Hidaka and Blue Demon Jr. Actually both Blue Demon Jr. and Rayo de Halisco are son of two of the most notable luchadors in Mexican history. They have a feud that goes back a generation in their families. Blue Demon Sr. was the luchador responsible for the unmasking of Rayo de Halisco's father. In the culture of lucha libre, being unmasked is the ultimate disgrace.
While I enjoyed the portions of the match that featured Hidaka taking on Perkins, the rest of the match was not very exciting. Neither Blue Demon or Rayo de halisco are in very good shape. The match felt a little too long and took time away from a great match that aired later in the show.
The 2nd match--which turned out to be much more entertaining than I expected--was "The Ironmen" Rob Conway--yep, that Rob Conway--and "Special E" Eugene Dinsmore--yep, that same Eugene--in a singles match. Rob Conway was fairly impressive in the match, as was Eugene...holy crap did I just say that Eugene was impressive? It was a comedic match as well as a fiarly good technical encounter. Somehow Eugene ended up getting the W in this one.
The 3rd match was the best on the show. "slick" Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks took on Rocky Ramero--of ROH fame--in a singles match. As you might expect, the match was technically sound, fast paced, and hard-hitting. I only wish it could have lasted about five minutes longer. Ramero got the dupe by executing a victory role into and anklelock, which he has been using as a finisher for a while now.
The main event on the card was...let's say...out of the ordinary. Cobra II took on a relative unknown called Cassandro--who seems to be ripping off the Golddust gimmick fairly well. The match was good, if a little abnormal in nature. In the end it was the Golddust impersonator Cassandro that got the win of Canada's Cobra II.
I have really enjoyed watching NWA Wrestling Showcase the past three weeks. It is definitely not the same stuff you see on WWE programmin or TNA programming. The NWA is wrestling purity. The NWA has a rich tradition of great champions like Terry Funk, Jack Briscoe, Carl Goch, and even MMA fighters Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock have been NWA champion. If you recall, NWA was associated with TNA starting with their early run and up until TNA lost the tradition side of wrestling and started to suck.
I am looking forward to next week's show, and hoping that the show gets picked up for a few more episodes.
Another horribel iMPACT broadcast
There are quite a few words to describe this week's TNA broadcast, and the only one that I feel is adequate is "atrocious." Yep, that's the one.
I cannot believe that TNA is trying to push Kevin Nash in any way. I respect what Nash has done, because what he has done is a whole damn lot. He is a former WWF Champion, and a former member of the NWO, but it's time to be blatantly honest about today's Kevin Nash. There is no damn way in hell that we are going to see a credible revivla of Nash's career. He's just too old and too beaten up. There is no way to reverse the aging and the damage that Big Kev's body has gone through over the last twenty years. Yet Nash is still going out there, spewing his arrogance like we actually believe him. He's spewing that same tired crap about how he could steal the girlfriends of every male member in the audience. Spewing that crap about wondering what it's like to spend the night with Kevin Nash. Realistically, a night is probably more like twenty minutes these days. With Kevins' surgically replaced hip, his bad knees, his bad back, and the rest of the inuries on the laundry list, it's probably not that exciting anymore.
I am sick and damn tired of Kurt Angle monopolizing TV time. That's all I can say, because I find it hard to refrain from spitting out uncouth language when I talk about Kurt.
Matt Morgan is the MOST OVERRATED MAN IN THE WRESTLING BUSINESS TODAY!!! BAR NONE!!!
On a different note, the segment between A.J. Styles and Sting was great. Sting's promo was good, and A.J's was even better. A.J. Styles is really stepping his game back up to a level that it hasn't been at for over a year now.
I think that I have been getting a little too involved in the Sting/Joe storyline to be objective and intelligent about what is going on here. Sting is doing what he can to put over the young guys. That is what this storyline is really about. I still don't agree with the fact that Sting is not going out and putting it all on the line the way the young guys do, but he can't keep going forever. Sting vs. Joe and Sting vs. A.J. are matcehs that can make the careers of the two younger men.
In closing, let me just say...fire Vince Russo.
TNA Bound for Glory 2008 Review
I have had much to say about the decline in quality of the TNA product in the last year, but I have to say that at BFG4, TNA did not live up to the shows of the past three years. There were are of course a few exceptions, but there usually are.
The Steel Asylum Match upened up the show. In my opinion, the more guys you put in the ring at once, the more exciting a match is. This match is a prime example of that theory. This match might not have been as good if there were only two or three competitors involved. But of course, there were eight...I think. If I'm correct, the match was Jay Lethal vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Curryman vs. Johnny Devine vs. Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley vs. Petey Williams vs. Eric Young vs. Sharkboy. Okay, that's nine...but you get the picture, there were a whole lot of bodies flying around. I liked this match a lot. I thought it was actually a lot better than the original Steel Asylum Match. The first one was good, but this one was thoroughly entertaining. What I really wanted to see was Curryman winning the match, so he could rip that mask off and reveal that he is really Christopher Daniels. I enjoyed Curryman for a while, but the gimmick is getting old. I want to see Christopher Daniels back in his hell persona of the Fallen Angel. Also, I am sick of this SuperEric stuff. Eric Young is a good enough wrestler that he doesn't need a goofy gimmick. I equate Eric Young to a Chris Candido...no gimmicks needed. Anyway, Lethal got the win.
Before I get to the next match, let's talk about the rediculous promo involving Mick Foley and The Beautiful People. First let me say that I have decided to no longer feel sorry for Mick. He brings the mediocrety upon himself. He is the one that agrees to get involved in these crappy promos. All I can say is...Foley had better pull out the old Cactus Jack persona before his time in TNA is up...and he better wrestle Abyss. I want to see Foley vs. Abyss in Barbed Wire Massacre 3...or maybe a 10,000 TAcks ZMatch...or maybe a Street Fight.
The Beautiful People and Cute KIp vs. Raka Kahn, ODB, and Rhino was nothing more than filler. The match was horrible. Of course, after seeing the Beautiful People b****ing about the color of their M&Ms, I was so pissed that I couldn't have possibly enjoyed a match involving those two idiots. I don't hate Velvet and Angelina as wrestlers. I hate their gimmick, not because they're good at being heels, but because it's so damn stupid and annoying. And ah how the might have fallen, Rhino and Kip James to be exact. Kip is a former member of the biggest faction in the WWE in the 1990s, and Rhino is a former ECW and NWA World Champion. What the hell is going on here?! And does anybody give a crap about Tracey Brooks and Knockout Law? Does anybody believe that the least talented person on the active female roster in TNA could enforce any kind of authority over anybody? Let's just finish this up by saying that the match was crap!!!
Okay, on to Creed vs. Bashir. Let me say first that I love my country, and I support every troop out there from the United States. They have the guts to do what most of us aren't willing to do or just can't do...but that being said, I am so tired of these hyperpatriotic gimmicks in wrestling. Hogan did it for so many years. It's just old and unoriginal. when I watch wrestling every week, I want to be able to excape from the every day bull**** that I have to deal with.
Anyway, the match was about what I expected from Bashir and Creed. It was a descent match, but not that exciting. When you think X Division Title, you think of bodies flying around everywhere. Bashir is just not that entertaining. I think Creed vs. Sonjay Dutt would be great...but it doesn't seem like TNA is ever going to give himn the belt.
There were so many horrible cutesy Mick Foley crap promos on this show that I didn't know if I should cry or vomit. Ang again, Raisha Said's accent is so bad and fake that she is like a friggin cartoon character on a bad Cartoon Network show.
Let's talk about the participants of the next match: Taylor Wilde, Roxiw Laveau, and awesome Kong. First, Taylor has impressed me, but I haven't seen anything so impressive as to warrant the push that she is getting. The thing that really annoys me is the continued assertions that Roxie is hardcore. She's not hardcore!!! We've seen her busted open on TV once!!! As far as I know, she's never wrestled Terry Funk in barbed wire, she's never bee lit on fire, she's never taken a charishot from Sabu...she isn't hardcore. As far as I know, she's never wrestled in the women's deathmatch circuit in Japan. When you put all these things together...it adds up to the fact that she's not hardcore. Awesome Kong is boring!!!
The match for the Knockout Title was about what I expected. It was too short. It wasn't given much weight at all. I have seen worse matches though, so that's something.
Now on to my favorite of all the matches...Monster's Ball!!! Yes, I am a bit biased toward the hardcore style of wrestling...but it is hard to deny the quality of this match. As I expected, there was no hardcore action from Matt Morgan (for all his claims of wrestling supremacy, he seems like a sissy to me) or either member of Beer Money Inc. The fact that James Storm didn't get into the hardcore action very much was disappointing to me. He had a hell of a match last year against Chris Harris in Texas Deathmatch rules, and I was expecting to be impressed by him. I am sick and tired of this non-violent Abyss crap! Abyss has the potential to be the next hardcore hero of pro wrestling. He should be leaving a trail of broken and mangled bodies in his wake...but instead, he's a freakin puppydog. The Dudleys delivered better than I expected them to. I have noticed a marked decrease in the quality of their matches in the past year...but when they get back to their hardcore roots, they seemed to get back whateve they seem to be lacking in the past year. I had no doubts about the hardcore prowess of LAX. Not only has Homicide wrestled in the deathmatch circuit in Japan...he pretty much is what he says, a thug. And Hernandez is the real deal too, hardcore, strong style, or otherwise. Anyway, I loved the match. Abyss took one hell of a fall through a flaming table. I say that any man willing to do what he did is hardcore. I certainly didn't see Roxie gett tossed through any flaming tables.
Styles vs. Cage vs. Booker T was a better match than I expected. Booker put on a great show. I have felt that he ahs been lacking in his in-ring action for quite a while now, going back to WWE, but he certainly delivered in the match at BFG. A.J. Styles took his game to a level that he hasn't been at for a while. He was nothing short of--yeah, I'm gonna say it--phenonenal! Christian Cage never goes half way at a PPV, or even on an iMPACT broadcast. Christian is a great example of what a true professional is in pro wrestling, at least as far as the in-ring action goes.
Jarrett vs. Angle was just what I expected. It was a deliberately paced, technically based match between two great in-ring comptetitors. I have been very vocal of my dislike for Angle for quite a while now...and that has not changed, but he really did remind me of how good he can be in the ring when the match is important, or when he has a true challenge.
Sting vs. Joe turned out to be a great match. I still think it was overhyped, and that may have taken somthing away from the match, but not as much as the interference of Kevin Nash. This match was hyped and hyped and hyped, it was announced that there would be no rematch, and I wanted to see a clear and decisive win, but that was not to be. Kevin Nash interfered on the part of Sting, allowing him to get the dupe and become TNA Champion yet again. I was very angry that Joe was not allowed to beat Sting. I know it's all freakin politics, and it's crap. Why would they pushed Joe so much if they were just going to continue the trend of giving Sting the belt at BFG? Vince Russo and all the other decision makers in the back need a real freakin reality check. Joe is the future, Sting is the past. Joe should be the one getting the win in this match. Sting can't have that much longer in his career, and it makes no sense to me to give him the belt again.
I was hoping for a great show, and I have to say that on the whole, I was disappointed. All together, if I were to assigne a letter grade to this PPV, it would probably be a C+ or maybe B-.
TNA iMPACT Thoughts - October 9 Edition
Since I don't feel that this weeks TNA was good enough to discuss, except for parts, let's do a point by point.
1. Booker T is still making an idiot of himself with the fake Shaka Zulu accent.
2. This whole Chritian Cage straddling the fence deal isn't doing anything for the storyline.
3. A.J. Styles is still being held back for losers.
4. Cute Kip is still a washed up hasbeen.
5. Rhyno is still midcaring it in pointless matches, and maybe for good reason, because he was less than impressive this week.
7. The Beautiful People are still hot, Velvet moreso than Angelina, and they're still annoying as hell.
8. The Jay Lethal/Sonjay Dutt/SoCal Val storyline is still going on...why?
9. Lethal/Dutt/Williams/Creed was a clicked X Division match. It was the same crap as every other week on iMPACT.
10. Why the hell did the give Sheik Abdul Bashir the X belt when Sonjay has been in TNA for 5 years and hasn't gotten it yet? Can you say assinine?
11. Petey Williams is a mockery of his former self. He's just not relevent anymore. It's the same clicked crap with him, plus some of Steiner's cliched crap to go with it. This gimmick is doing nothing for his career.
12. Why are they giving Consequences Creed a title shot? If it's to lengthen the rivarly between Dutt and Lethal, they should realize that nobody wants to see that crap anymore!!!
13. I was into the Bashir promos at first, but now I'm tired of hearing his moaning and complaining. It's been done before. Iron Sheik...Nicholai Volkoff, anybody remember the original UnAmericans?
14. AGain, why the hell does Karen Angel still have a spot on TNA TV? She's nothing but a bimbo. She can't wrestle, she's irrelevent to the company, and I'm sick of her.
15. Yet another cliched Foley promo. What ever happened to Cactus Jack?
16. Why is Foley pushing Kurt Angle as "the best wrestler of all time"? Kurt doesn't need any more compliments to swell his head. How much more arrogant can the moron be?
17. How the hell is Foley even involved in the Jarrett/Angle storyline? he's got nothing to do with it. He's adding nothing to the rivalry.
18. TNA management is making a mistake (big friggin suprise) by not pushing Foley vs. Abyss right away. That match could make Abyss into the next hardcore hero of pro wrestling.
19. Don West still sucks, and Tenay still sounds like a freakin cartoon.
20. While I thought the whole "Gor the whore" bit was mildly amusing, Rhyno's promos are not what they used to be. He doesn't have the raw intensity that he did in ECW. Back then he ahd something to prove. He was right up in the camera, spitting a screaming, cursing and hollering, those were great promos.
21. I think that having Steve McMichaels as the special ref for Monster's Ball is...well,I don't care. I didn't care about Mongo in WCW. I hated him as an onnouncer. He wasn't much of a wrestler. I don't care what "wrestling celebrity" they get to referree the match. As long as they let Abyss get back to his roots, and as long as Matt Morgan gets pegged a few good times, I'll be happy.
22. Abyss/Morgan vs. Beer Money Inc...who cares? I don't care about the set-up of the sotry...because the story sucks, as do most of the stories in TNA these days.
23. I am sick and damn tired of hearing about the 20-time tag champions. We know that 3D is good...or at least they used to be. Now they're just fat and lazy. I have hated the Dudleys before, but I hated their characters because they were heels. Now I hate them because it seems to me that they have lost their drive, or at least Bubba has. There have been rumors than d-Von want to return of WWE...and I think he's got the right idea.
24. Bobby Roode has all the potential that a guy can have in the wrestling business. He takes a lot of his maneuvers and style from Triple H and and Harley Race, and that's good, they are great examples of the pinacle of the business, but he lacks that one thing that they have. You know, that one nameless thing that makes a great wrestler. If he can find it or develop it or whatever, he's a future World Champion.
25. Like I said earlier, fairly standard blah-blah Foley promo.
26. While I'm glad to see Jeff Jarrett back, anything that gives Kurt Angle screen-time drives me nuts.
27. I don't think that Jarrett will be beating Angle at BFG. I want it to happen, but I doubt it will. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be suprised if the whole angel is another push for Angle...no pun intended.
28. Booker sound like a homeless retard.
29. Who cares what's in Booker's Breifcase?
30. Yes, Roxie is hardcore. She's old school. She's willing to bleed, and for me that's awesome. It's great to see a woman in wrestlng who's willing to give everything just like the men are.
31. Taylor Wild has impressed me, but she's got a long way to go.
32. Does anybody care about Awesome Kong anymore?
33. RAisha Said annoys the hell out of me. Her accent is so fake and so bad. She's almost as bad as Booker.
33. Styles vs. Booker was mediocre at best.
34. The in-ring action this week did very little to counteract the crappy promos and crappy storylines.
35. If Samoa Joe and Sting can put on a good match at BFG, I might change my mind about my current opinion of Joe. I can't say that I don't enjoy Sting in the ring. He's great. He's put on some great mathes in the last two years...but he's not giving it his all. And since Joe has come to TNA, more specifically, since he has become champion, he's gone from dynamic to just palin lazy. What is it with the young hungry guys? They get on top, and then they get just as lazy as the old timers. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the fans pay a lot of money every year to but wrestling PPVs, I myself have paid a substantial amount to see TNA PPVs in the past three years, and we at least deserve a guy's dedication to his craft. If you aren't feeling it anymore, don't do it anymore. Don't keep coming back just for another paycheck.
Overall this week...TNA would probably get a C-, and that's being generous.
