games with yearly releases
You know i find it annoying that some of the games i enjoy keep coming out with new games every year and sprinkling in bunch of spin-offs during that year. I feel that game that are releasedeach yearcan destroy a good game and drop the value of your previous game significantly.
Lets take Call of Duty for instance i can't find myself getting to excited for Modern Warfare 2 because my CoD:WaW is still fairly new i am loving all the new DLC and Nazi Zombies seems to never get old. I even still play CoD4 which is getting old now but it is still a blast to play even after two years. So why do we need another editon of Call of duty for the third consecutive year. The truth is we don't really.CoD4 was great because we were taken out of the WWII experience and i just wished that theywould have expandedin WaW instead of foing back to WWII. Treyarch could have easily taken their ideasand made a better game if they left WWII or given themselve another year to make adjustments to the game to make it better. But to me it seemed like something to cash in on the name seeing as how their was nothing new to the game except nazi zombies and co-op. (the latter was not executed well at all.
With guitar hero and Rock band, I have come to find the serie getting really stale. why would i want to buy a brand new game every year for some new songs when the songs can easily bedownloaded. Like guitar hero it is hard to justify buying a game now because the series releases so many titles each year and many of them have songs we have played before. I'll give them the fact that they have some new features but that doesn't justify dropping $60 for songs that i don't want to play or songs i have played before. In fact with I see that songs that you want to play are hard to find because we have played all the classics already.
Sports games are the worst culprit of this atrocity. i just can't see paying a full $60 for a roster update or victory dance customization. Not to mention that those of you who bought that copy of madden last year when the new one comes out thevalue for your madden 09 drops significantly. In fact it drops so much you can't even get rid of the game. I admit that i am not a big sports fan but as a consumer i don't see any point any buying a game thatdoesn't have any heart and soul into but all it is, is justthe same game witha little spit shine added to it. Especially when we are in the time when DLC runsrampant.People should pay asmall price for all of these extra modes to augment their previous copies rather thanhave themrelatively the same game.
In closing i have to say that if you release a game a significant amount of time after the prior you can generally startup interest in the game and make people want to play your game more rather than just buy it to have it. I feel like games such as God of War or Devil may cry where we have to wait a substantial amount of time to get our hands on the copy make it feel satisfying and keeps us coming back for more rather than using it as a coaster. Also it shows that you care about your fan base and your works of art becauseyou took the time to rebuild your game to make it better thanand more memorable than what it was. As a gamer i think that's what make the experience specialplaying something and enjoying it until because it was cared for not because its a cash cow
