Lost Rewatches, 1x03 - 1x05
Review: Tabula Rasa
Score: 9.20 / 10.00
Review: Another good episode to begin the series. I'm sure when this was just my third episode of the show this episode was somewhere around a 9.7 or so. A lot of the season one episode have that "new" feel to them when you're watching them for the first time. Looking at where we are now and looking back likely drops it's ratings a little bit.
I thought the flashbacks were good, for some reason I thought I hated all flashbacks of Kates but these were well done. They were very too the point and only three in the episode. A lot of good dialouge among the survivors as Jack works on the Marshall. One of my favorite scenes, looking back, is when Charlie has three suitcases in the wheelchair and makes reference that whoevers chair it was "is likely better off then we are". True, but not the way it came off in episode three of the series. I love the intense mystery that surrounded Locke to this point. The "miracle" that happened to him and the fact that he is on camera for like a total of 10 minutes in the first three episodes. There is no one at this point who I wanted to know more about.
Best Scene --> Jack talks to Kate on the beach about how it doesn't matter who they were and what they did before the crash.

Score: 9.50 / 10.00
Review: I thought this was the second best episode of the first disc, right behind the pilot. I don't think I would mind it if there were a lot more episodes like this in Lost. Character Devolopment was the theme for the epsiode. When you think of what happened in the 42 minutes of air time, the answer is not a whole lot in terms of big epic twists and turns. However, seeing the characters interact with one another a mere four days after this plane crash is remarkable. Kate and Sayid working together to try and get a signal of where the distress call is coming from. Jack walks over to Rose and talks to her about her husband. Nice little foreshadowing from Rose in episode 4 with the "They're probably thinking the same thing about us" in relation to the tail section survivors. Season One has a 100% different feel from where we are now and I love rewatching it. I'll never be able to watch this show for the first time again, but I still get chills during the final scene where Locke is revealed to be in the chair. An amazing scene for such an early moment in the show.
I thought all the flashbacks in the episode were needed and very well done. Everything was there for us to figure out the big twists and I remember not beign able to the very first time I watched it. Some of the island scenes were a little slow at times, but for the most part all of the dialouge was very well written and the overall direction of what the episode wanted to do was there.
Best Scene: The Big Reveal. No doubt about this one I don't think. Amazing plot twist for how early it was into the season.
Review: White Rabbit
Score: 9.00 / 10.00
Review: I thought it was the worst episode of season one to this point in time. The pace of this episode just felt off. It took a very long time for this episode to get going. Jack runs into the forest after his Dad as the clock ticks over to the 15th minute of the episode. A lot of walking around and talking on the beach between some of the regulars. They set up the shortage of water storyline, where I think it should have been more of a spur of the moment thing. I don't think the Charlie, Jack, Hurley scene was needed to set it up.
The flashbacks got better as they went and they were all pretty well done. I liked the small Jack's "You don't have what it takes" scene with Christian. My favorite flashback was the final one, with Jack desperate to get his father onto the airplane. The on-island stuff was hit or miss. Some scenes I thought was good, but at the same time there were some scenes that were not really needed for the episode. Overall, I gave it a 9/10, which is the lowest I have given a lost episode to date.
Best Scene: Jack/Lockes conversation in the jungle after Locke saves Jack from falling off the cliff. A lot of great back and forth between the two here. You had Locke's first mention of "this place" being special. The "White Rabbit" mention of the episode. Locke telling Jack that he is the leader. Too many good things in this scene for it not to be the best.
Pilot, Part 1 - 10.00
Walkabout - 9.50
Tabula Rasa - 09.20
Pilot, Part 2 - 09.15
White Rabbit - 9.00

Slow Summer, Lost Rewatches Have Begun
So weird coming here and posting a blog like once a month and not two to three times a week. Thie summer isn't the best for new television shows, but only about two months left before some good ones keep coming back. Currently I'm watching: "In Plain Sight" on USA, which is amazing by the way. And "The Mole" on ABC, which is decent enough. I miss talking lost with you guys, 222 days and counting!!
Review: Pilot, Part 1
Score --> 10.00 / 10.00
Review: The best pilot I have ever seen from any series, I can say that now for a fact. I did love the pilot for Dexter as well, but Lost hands down takes the cake upon rewatch. My attention is on the screen for the entire 42 minutes and the episode just seems to kind of race by you.
I love the opening scene with Jack saving everyone. I thought it was needed to have a big, long first scene with the plane wreck. I mean, you only really get the "wow" factor of the plane being everywhere one time. We see the plane wreck scene a few times, but the pilot is the only one to really hold a candle to any of them. You don't know whats going to happen to anyone because you don't know anyone yet.
I love the night scenes on the beach and I think that is something that I miss nwo this late into the show. No more Hurley bringing Claire food and asking about the baby before he leaves to go help someone else.
The second big part of the episode is the trek into the jungle, which I also thought was fantastic. I think they picked the right three actors to go on the first trek. I think Fox, Lilly, and Dom all did a great job on that trek. Other then Kate counting to 5 I loved pretty much every second of it.
Best Scene of the episode --> Close call but I think the opening scene is just barely going to edge out Jack talking to Kate about fear. I think if he were to go back and re-do the scene today it would be ten times better coming from him now. In the end, not really anything too bad you can say about this episode. This started it all.
Review: Pilot, Part 2
Score: 9.15 / 10.00
Review: Not as good as the first episode by a long shot for me. Some spotty dialouge throughout the epsiode I thought. We get some more flashbacks in this episode; Kate and Charlie. They introduce Charlie as a drug addic and Kate as a convict in the same episode. I thought that was a little odd. Maybe should have switched up Charlie and Jacks place perhaps. The flashbacks were interesting. They kind of left you wanted more because they were both reveals and not really explainations of how they had gotten to that point, but knowing what we know now that's how lost does its thing.
The island stuff in this episode was good, just not as good as the last time. Watching the scene where Sawyer shoots the polar beer again came off as a little anti-climatic. I think sometimes the show does get a little carried away with the special effects. The big jungle trek in this episode was exactly that: a little too big. Take away Charlie and Shannnon and I think you have a pretty dynamic group right there.
Jack trying to save the marshall were some funny scenes. I love how the scene with Hurley passing out on the marshall, but even better the very next scene Hurley is still passed out laying next to the marshall. Guess Jack just kind of moved him out of the way. How? Iono.
Best Scene --> The conclusion. Sayid tracking the number of interation counts to come to the conclusion that the loop has been playing for 16 years was more WTF for me then the monster moving about the jungle I think. Great music selection during that scene too.
There's No Place Like Home - Finale Thoughts
I have not yet decided on a final rating for the episode yet, I need to rewatch once or twice more without the commercials to see how it all came together. These are just a couple of my really quicjk first impresssions...
Sayid versus Keamy --> Best. Fight. Scene. Ever.
Jeremey Bentham in the FFs --> They established the fact that the entire two-hour flashes for the finale was going to answer the sole question "Who is in the coffin?" by using the first scene as an extended scene from Through the Looking Glass. I thought the Flashes were solid, but they didnt take up that much of the finale which was fine to me.
First Jack / Locke scene - Great. Loved it. "It's not an island. It's a place where miracles happen"
Frozen Donkey Wheel - I thought it was dumb. Emerson tried, but I was shaking my head at it.
Jeremy's Identity - Made sense. We'll see where they go with this. I'll keep it non-spoiler for people who have not yet seen it.
Overall - Not sure. The person in the coffin makes sense, but I'm not sure that I like it. I wasn't sold on last years big twist until the months that followed. I just don't like the fact that this person is dead. I'd say the weakest of the four finales, leaving it with a maximum rating potential of 9.6. I dunno, I wasn't as impressed with this one as with other finales. The dialouge seemed off at points.
Lost Season Four Ends Tommorrow!!
Even with the rumors of it being a "complete failure" out there, I have just finished watching 4/6 of the clips released for the finale and it looks like it will be anything but a idssapointment. A lot has to happen on the island and in the flashes, but with two hours I have no doubt that Damon and Carlton will give us what we need We're sure to get answers and sure to be surprised, I'm thinking this episode is going to rank in the top ten of my Lost all-time. Speaking of which, to get through the two-week break I re-watched all of season two and made some big edits to my ongoing list to rank every episode. Here it is...

Still the worst ranked of the four seasons so far, but a very strong season no doubt. Rewatching the season I realized how big of a mistake the ending of "Two For The Road" was to the show. Having the beginning arch to introduce the tail section to have all but 2 of them disapear before the end of the second season was a mistake. I miss the tail section survivors and when this show is all said and done I think the end of "Two For The Road" may be brought into question. Was it the best thing for the show? I know why they killed the two of them, but it was a mistake for the betterment of the story, I feel. Jack + Ana would have been perfect to go along with Kate + Sawyer, considering you could still have an O6 with Jack and Kate sparking something on the outside world. Big movers on the list were "The Awful Truth" (8.4 > 9.4), The Other 48 Days (9.7>9.4), and Collision (8.6>9.2)
