IDM - Intellegent Dance Music
What's so intelligent about it? Can anyone dance to it? Has anyone danced to it without being laughed out of a club?
I love many of the peices which have been tarred with the IDM brush. But come on! Intelligent Dance Music! Surely the most misplaced description ever.
It's electronica plain and simple. Well, isn't it?

An exploration of the sonic extremes. One end screams rebellion, with Electronica warped within a Tourette-like mindset. Musical phrases are thrown crashing at the listener, a barrage of beats and bits and bytes and then... the other extreme, ambience. Resonant drones that are as endless as the landscapes they conjure. But the tone of both extremities is an underlying menace, from claustrophobe to agoraphobe.

In an age of beeps and bongs and sampled beeps and bongs, Pook's work stands out as fresh. Her sound is simplicity itself. It is as though whe were the masked and hooded adherent of a secret sect, guardians of an ancient formulae. She has weaved this formulae into her arrangements of string and vocals which resonate oh so deeply, touching and lifting the inner being.
