hey

hiya my name is chiami, am into hip hop, but not really a fan of the mainstream at the moment. i prefer the likes of lauryn hill, the fuguees, arrested development, common, tribe called quest, nas etc. one of the reasons i signed up to this site was thati able to find other artists based on the oes i like, which don't really get alot of radio time...so yeah...my little discourse about joining there. a part from music a i am into films, not in the film maker way but the "i love films" way, from epics to drama's and action (though not the terminater kind). so erm yh, that me...well part of me anyway.

when i hear his lyrics, i actually believe what he is saying, it feels like its real and what i love most about this artist is that he doesnt try to conform to the gangstar rap image - in 'always coming back home to you' he actually says "if no one in your crew carries a gun". i not saying he's the only artist out there of this persausion, just that i like his music and he honest lyrics and that he tries to be nothing but himself when he raps.

i really like the laid back sound of this band, is doesnt try to get you hpyed up using strong melodies, but lused out rhythems instead; its like the band truely believe in the power of the spoken word and let them show what they are about. its a very refreashing sound.

its very contovsial, though used reguarly in rap music. peronally i think the word needs lose its dis-empowered, which is why he choose it. 50 cent thinks he's jus doing it for shock value...but i think there is cause and reason because his music is not just about money, gangsters and prostitues. in nas we finaly have a rap willing to challenge social norms and push the boundries ofmusic, using it to advocate a political conscious that goes too often unheard. heis not the only one, mos def, black thought, and common all do it to a greater or lesser extent too. it just that nas has the potential to reach more ears.
