The Following Takes Places on December 1, 2005. Events occur in TV.Com time.
Ruminations
Sometimes I worry that my blogs may be too big and have too many links. Then I realize it is just my insanity acting up so I scratch it a few times and put it back in the box.
Do You Trust Me?
Midwestrocker has earned the honor of Trusted User of Kiefer Sutherland. And on that note…
Top Ten Kiefer Sutherland Projects
Up until recently, Kiefer’s best work has been as a supporting actor and the man with the voice. Ranking his work is difficult, but here is my take on it.
1. 24: Jack Bauer is the part he was born to play.
2. A Few Good Men: He plays the dirty rotten scoundrel in the military.
3. A Time To Kill: He plays a racist dirty rotten scoundrel.
4. The Lost Boys: He plays a vampire who is a well…you get the picture.
5. Flatliners: Didn’t he date somebody in this movie? Or was it after this movie?
6. Young Guns: My heroes have always been cowboys and/or outlaws.
7. Stand By Me: He plays a young punk who is a …why do I keep doing that?
9. Freeway: He plays a really nice lonely guy just looking for love. Oh, who am I kidding? He is the big bad wolf.
10.To End All Wars: Highly underrated film
Honorable Mention: Truth or Consequences, N.M. The Three Musketeers. Dark City.
Dishonorable Mention: Renegades. Bright Lights, Big City. And too many direct to video flicks to name.
Best Voice Work
1. Phone Booth: His voice work made the movie.
2. Nascar 3D: Vroom Vroom never sounded so good.
3. The Flight that Fought Back: He narrates a documentary about Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001.
4. The Land Before Time X: It’s never too early to identify quality.
5. 24:”The following takes place” voice over is now immediately recognizable.
Welcome to the Breakfast Club
Many of you have sent me well wishes on my substitute teaching. Thanks so much for that. For the last two days, I have directed the high school and middle school band. I also taught kindergarten and first grade music. It is a pretty wide range of folks. My wife has taught at the school for over 10 years. I have known some of the students there nearly their whole lives. They treat me well there. I am almost like an uncle to them. The pay in money is somewhat slim. However, when the little boy in kindergarten who I had never seen before came up to me yesterday, gave me a hug, and told me he loved me, it reinforced my belief that it is not all about the money.
People’s Choice Awards
The final round of voting for the People’s Choice Awards is now open. Here are today’s picks:
Favorite Movie Comedy: Hitch outruns The Longest Yard and withstands Wedding Crashers.
Favorite Movie Drama:Beats Batman Begins and Coach Carter Star Wars:EPIII does.

Hugs,
Mary
Did you mist up when you got the hug?
It also reminds me that the main reason I am at tv.com is because of my friends.
I might be getting the title wrong, but have you ever seen The Bay Boy with Kiefer? It was pretty good.
He was brilliant in A Few Good Men ... love that film, even if it was a little too Cruise heavy.
I just love Kiefer's voice. It makes me positively giddy.
Glad the teaching went well.
Kiefer is a great actor. I haven't watched 24, but I really should. I think I'd enjoy it.
That is so wonderful about the student. It's great that you had such a positive impact on him and I agree that it puts things into perspective.
Chris - I am kind of a delayed reaction person. It didn't hit me until I got alone in the car.
Awerlwas - Thanks for that!
Stu - Friends make it all worth while, no?
Gowron - I am afraid you have got me on that one. I have never the The Bay Boy. I can't believe that no one realized that I had somehow skipped number 8 on my list though. It is Behind the Red Door. It was a Showtime movie with Kiefer and Kyra Sedgewick. He played a gay dying with AIDS. How is that for a character stretch?
WI- His voice is very powerful. I would like to hear him read some Halloween poetry. I bet it would be cool.
Stig - What can I say? I like to make people
cdrak - The funny thing is the hugs have to be initiated by the student because of the fear of sexual predators. It is a mixed up world...
Cali - Thanks for the "thoughtful insights." My father says that everyone has a brain but not everyone uses it. I am sure he heard it quoted somewhere else. there is a lot of truth in it.
A&S - My wife doesn't care for 24 because she is not into the the whole CIA government plot kind of thing. If you like that kind of stuff at all, then the show is for you.
Congrats to Midwestrocker in the TU status!
What a nice way to realize that there is a greater purpose for everyone out there. I'm sure that hug & I love you will be something you'll always remember!
My favorite Kiefer movie is Lost Boys! I think I need to find it on DVD just so that I can own it!
No questions today! hmmmmm
Unfortunately, I also worry about initiating hugs. The two subs I have worked with apparently don't feel the same way, as they constantly cuddle the kids, sit them on their laps, and even swing them around. To me, this is a bit inappropriate. Some contact is good, but it gets to the point where I can't do what I need to do as a teacher because the subs are playing fun babysitter.
Lady T- There is so much going on in their young lives. They "know" how to play without any encouragement. The role of the teacher is to teach them other things. Sometimes that is easier said than done.
MM - Thanks for the encouragement!
