Fable is Down, And I am back

So, i broke my xbox shortly after playing and starting fable, but recovered a new system, and beat the game very recently. I have to say while the story was kind of short, im usually a (35+ hour) when it comes to rpg, that it satisfied me and made me want to explore every corner of this little virtual world. I recommend it to anyone who breaths and can hold a controller.

Hey Spike Lee - Wake Up!

Just a short notice in the world of "how can you say that?" Director Spike Lee was dissed by some Italians about his recent WWII film, saying that it wasn't telling the exact truth by dilluting the actions of Nazis behind a massacre. The Yahoo/Reuters reports:

"I would not allow anybody to tell me how to make a film, be it a partisan or the president of the United States," Lee told a news conference in Florence on Wednesday after a preview screening, according to Italian media.

"This simply shows that in Italy the wound is still open. ... It is up to Italians to come to grips with their past, not up to me or James McBride or the film," he said.

Funny how Lee was recently complaining about Clint Eastwood and his film not accurately portaying blacks in WWII.... It's ok to tell other people how to make a film, but not for people to tell Spike Lee how to make it. Reminds me of a song...

And you should know that the lies won't hide your flaws
No sense in hiding all of yours
You gave up on your dreams along the way

Good god, you're comin' up with reasons
Good god, you're draggin' it out

I liked a few of his movies and felt he was a stong filmmaker, but man this latest thing just keeps rubbing me wrong about his dis of Eastwood's Flags of Our Father and then this quote where he got the history wrong.

To Americans: Thinking is now illegal

here's a link for you:
http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/19/5320/
I'm defintly going to have to write an essay on this over the christmas break for all to see..but for now, my reflections on this. Basically, my American friends, if the goverment thinks you're thinking about acting against the goverment you're a terrorist, and can be charged. Nice little thought eh? Ever read 1984? Well, if you did, this will defintly sound familar. This is just another step in America becoming a facist state...well...before it announces it is, it already IS a facist state, it just contains the illusion of democracy at this point. Honestly now, when you can be arrested for what people think you may be thinking...well that's just ****ed up right there. Thoughts?
EDIT: Also, for those of you who may have missed it - that means protesting against the goverment can also be charged.

Canceled

It is with extreme displeasure that I inform you all the the first Midwestrocker blog series, "Reasons Why I Wish I Experienced the 80's and Reasons I'm Glad I Missed the 70's," has been canceled.

The primary reason for this decision is a complete lack of creativity on the part of the series' creator. It turns out that it's difficult to write about two periods of time without actually having experienced them, and even more difficult to have an absolute, definitive opinion on something that you only have vague knowledge of. I don't know how politicians do it.

Another part of the cancelation is the profile view count. It hasn't increased by very much, and it's May Sweeps, people! We have to keep those eyeballs glued!

We will not be showing the remaining episodes.

Now, on to other things. Tomorrow I'm going to Florida for my cousin's sweet-sixteen. It should be a nice trip, but it'll be a rough drive. See, my part of the country is under siege. Georgia hasn't seen this much fire since Sherman. Foggy smoke has been visible on and off throughout the state for two weeks, and the scent of burning leaves and pine cones fills the air. More troublesome, contact lens wearers (including myself) have had to get special prescriptions to deal with the irritation and red eye. But so far I haven't been directly confronted by these fires, until now. Tomorrow I will be driving right through the mess. The portion of 1-75 that's been blocked off for the past couple of days is exactly the portion that I use to get myself to Mickeyland. So I'm not sure how this is going to work; am I going to be rerouted somehow through back roads and swamps, or should I go out to Interstate 95 and go down that way? But wait, if I went to I-95 I'd have to go through the Okefenokee swamp, which is also going up in smoke. Oh, I guess I can go to 1-95 via I-10, which would actually be a nice drive. Wait, that's on fire too? Hmmm. I guess this is an appropriate depiction of the current situation. Also, next month I'll be heading up to Duluth, Minnesota to see family and, apparently, it's on fire too. Great. I'm beginning to feel singled out. Just wish me luck, I guess.

Speaking of cancelations, tomorrow they air the last episode of the Gilmore Girls. We just recently started watching that show, thus proving that my affection is the kiss of death for a TV show. Apparently, Battlestar Galactica's getting canned too. You better watch your back, Heroes, because in the last month I've gotten two shows canceled and I've ensured that Lost has an end date! Alias only survived 8 months of my fandom before it was dumped. And you're about to be my favorite show, so that = doom. But back to the Gabmore Girls: Will Luke and Lorelai end up together? Will Rory ride off into the sunset with a special someone? Surprisingly, I don't really care. It was a funny show, and it's run its course. Goodbye, fast-talking pop-culture referencers. You shall be missed a little bit.

That's all for today. I hope you guys all have a great week and don't bombard my house with eggs because of the cancelation. That is, if you could get to my house without going through an inferno.

My one and only

It took me a day or two, well more like a few hours but I got the editorship for the one and only guide I plan on keeping here. Keith Allen is one of my all time favourites, and I find it abit annoying that there is a lot of misinformation and very little accurate info out there on him. Hopefully I can fix up his guide here and the one that I'm over on TVRage so there will at least be a couple of reliable sources on him (besides his dinky mini bio on the BBC).

Besides that I realised last night that many of you don't know about my now not so new baby - Gracie.

Isn't she lovely??

Super Bowl Sunday
I couldn't believe it when I looked in here today and saw that it's been nearly a year and a half since I've written one of these things, so I thought I should write me another one, just to keep the profile updated, you know.

Besides, what better day for a blog entry than Super Bowl Sunday, right?

Even if it is Monday now, but oh well.

I spent the better part of the day pretty much doing nothing. I'm inclined to feel a little bad about that, but then, it is the day of rest after all, and you've got to admit, it's kind of fun to do nothing every once in a while. You wouldn't believe how good at it I am, either. Why, if they ever make doing nothing an Olympic sport, I'm ready and rearing to go!.

I caught up on Ghost Hunters with the marathon on The Sci-Fi Channel, and, yes, I did my part to rid the world of delicious barbecue potato chips and Dr. Pepper, one tasty bite and one cool sip at a time. There aren't too many things as good as Dr. Pepper on Super Bowl Sunday.

The game itself was a lot of fun too. Part of me just knew the Colts were gonna take the game, but I was still kinda pulling for the Bears. I like both teams, you know, but I was kinda looking forward to doing the Super Bowl Shuffle. Guess I'll have to put my dancing shoes back in the closet till next year.

Good news is, it's almost time for baseball season once again! I might've missed out on the Super Bowl Shuffle, but it's almost time for the Spring Training Shuffle!

Yeah, buddy!

You're Where?
So here I am, typing away on my sister's computer. I took the road less traveled and rearranged my work schedule so I could get into town last night instead of waiting to drive in on Sunday. I would have arrived earlier in the evening, but, well, has anyone ever seen First Wave? I only saw first season episodes, so I don't know how it ended, but I know those aliens are after me. As I was trying to leave town, one of my car's tires decided that it was tired of being full of air. I didn't get on the road for another three hours.

Now, truth be told, it's lucky that this happened before I left town. It's lucky that someone noticed that the tire looked rather sickly before I got on the interstate. I just can't help shaking that "there's a conspiracy against me" feeling sometimes. However, I am well aware of the fact that the situation would have been much worse had the tire blown/exploded/flattened/etc. an hour or so into the drive.

Since that wasn't enough fun, I decided to have an even bigger adventure. Using directions my sister printed from Mapquest, I drove to a house I had never been to before. The problem was, my sister neglected to give me the return directions. No problem, just reverse the directions, right? The problem is, I don't always have an easy time reversing directions, plus I lost the directions somewhere in my car.

I took a personal moment, reminded myself that there were only two short turns out of the subdivisions before the long stretch of road that would get me to where I wanted to be. No problem. Easy. Three miles later, I was listening to Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas and feeling confident. I was so happy and proud that little old directionally-challenged me was finding my way without directions. And then... it happened.

My first clue that something was wrong was when I passed by a "Welcome to {Name} County" sign. I had started the drive in one county, knew I was heading to a house in the same county, and was pretty sure I wasn't supposed to leave the county. I called my sister.

ME: "Hi. Um... am I supposed to be in {Name} county?" There was a slight pause.
HER: "I don't think so."
ME: "Well, I just passed a 'Welcome to Name} County sign."
HER: "Where are you?"
ME: "I don't know. Wait... there's a split! I don't know where to go! Crap!"
HER: "Are you on {Name of Street}?"
ME: "I don't know! Crap! I think I just went off an exit I wasn't supposed to!"
HER: "Didn't you stay on {Name of Street}?"
ME: "I don't know! No!!! I'm coming to two turn only lanes! Do I turn right or left?"
HER: "Where are you?"
ME: "I'm about to turn onto {Name of Different Street}!"
HER: "What street are you on now?"
ME: "I don't know!!"
HER: "Well, I can't help you if I don't know what street you're on."
ME: "I'm about to turn onto {Name of Different Street}. There's a Waffle House and an Exxon gas station. Do I turn right or left?"
HER: "I'm sorry, if I don't know where you are I can't help you. Call Aba." {Aba is Hebrew for father)

I pulled into the parking lot of the Waffle House and made the call. The problem was, he also wasn't quite sure where I was. I asked a Waffle House employee for the address and gave it to my father, but he was unable to find the directions on Mapquest. He ended up giving me directions to the exit closest to the house I used to live in. He wanted to give me highway directions to my sister's house, but I opted for the "horse to a stable" approach and drove the way I used to drive when I lived in that house.

So here I am, finally. I stopped for gas and went inside to get a milkshake. I was so riled up that I spend five or so minutes staring at the various frozen concoctions before opting for a gas-station-quality frozen cappuccino combined with whatever a frozen steamed milk drink is.

I got lost less than 4 miles away from my destination. Is it any wonder that driving is far from being my favorite activity?
