New tv with old games

What's this stuff I hear about old video games looking like crap on newer tvs?

I've heard a lot of people say it. I could imagine there being a problem with hooking up a 20 year old console to a new tv.

I just heard an example of why they look bad on new televisions. Think like this, old games are made for smaller televisions. Use them on a new, bigger screen, the image gets grainy. It's like taking a small picture and stretching it on "Paint". Do you get that?

Because the new TV's make everything look clearer and the old games have bad graphics, the new TV's make the bad points stand out.
