Jack Thompson Promoted - From Lawyer to President of the ESRB??? *cries*

I found this on the internet not too long ago...This isn't looking good.

Source wrote:

President Bush made a controversial appointment earlier today that will probably fly under the radar for most political junkies. Jack Thompson, the noted video game anti-violence advocate from Florida, could replace current ESRB head Patricia Vance as early as October if congressional hearings approving the president's nomination go smoothly.

"I stand by Jacky," Bush told reporters at a press conference where the appointment was announced. "He's been doin' a heck of a job, and I think that all the good work he's done for video games and the kids who play those durn things makes him a true patriotic American. If the lesson of September the 11th has taught us anything, it's to never let our guard down, and Jack has never let his guard down dealing with video games. We need to let the man continue doing what he's already been doing because of his sense of duty and honor, only in an official role."

Gamers who follow politics are taking issue with Bush's characterization of Jack Thompson, a man who is known as public enemy number one in most video gaming circles. Thompson first rose to notoriety in the gaming community in 2003 when he attempted to sue Take-Two Interactive, publishers of the Grand Theft Auto series, for the alleged role their game played in a homicide committed by two teenage brothers who claimed they were inspired by the game.

Since then Thompson has embarked on a one-man crusade to singlehandedly remove all violence, pornography, questionable content, and anything else that would make a video game fun, all in the name of protecting the children who play these Mature and Adult Only titles. Titles that would only be available to adults if parents would do their job. Thompson has continued his crusade despite the fact that most of the children he's crusading for think he's an ass.

Conservatives are expected to provide heavy opposition to the appointment when it reaches congress. Republicans up for re-election in 2008 have already been attempting to distance themselves from the sinking ship that is the Bush administration, and pundits agree that any Republican who supports President Bush appointing a crazy lawyer who hates video games as the head of the video game rating board will be seriously risking their seat in congress come election time.

Democrats are objecting on the grounds that the appointment was the president's idea, and the only coherent policy they've been able to come up with in the past year is to oppose anything the president does. Gamers have already called for democrats to attempt to impeach Thompson if his appointment does go through, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already gone on record stating that impeachment will not be on the table no matter how badly Thompson screws things up in his leadership role.

There is also a question as to whether or not the president actually has the authority to appoint someone to head the ESRB. The organization was approved by congress in 1994, but since then has operated independent of government interference. The president's attempt to appoint Thompson is especially odd considering it would be the first time a president attempted to interfere with the ESRB.

Joe Lieberman, one of the senators who led hearings in the early 90s that led to the creation of the ESRB, has flatly stated that the president doesn't have the authority to make this appointment. The Bush administration, however, claims executive privilege and plans to go ahead with the appointment. Current ESRB president Patricia Vance has threatened to take legal action if she is replaced.

Gaming action groups are forming all over the Internet to combat this appointment. Interested gamers are encouraged to send a mail to their local congressman stating emphatically that a vote for Thompson means a vote lost at the polls next November

Best Day Ever - I got my Drivers License and I Got Into The COD 4 Beta Early!!!!

Yes!!! Okay. First of all...I just got my drivers license...I was thinking that I was just prolonging this for way too long that I've just have to get it...Well and the fact that I had only a month left until my permit expires and there is no damn way that I'm going take the permit test again! So, my father called up the driving instructor (who so happens to be Russian as well...)....We got along just right......He was so cool...I messed on the parallel parking (which I hate so very much) and when I did, he said "I didn't see that, try again"...I was so happy that he did that...So, I got my license and I'm now one more step during freedom......Know I just have to get a job (which is soon since I applied to Walgreens and my brother is the assistant manager there...He's doing it part time)...I'm going to be working about thirty-five hours a week....

Now the Call of Duty 4 beta.... I know that we all want to here this...Okay this is who it went down...When I came home from getting my license, I was checking my e-mail and it read this "Welcome to the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer BETA!" from Infinity Wards email......I was thinking to myself that there was no way in heck...So, I click in it and it said:

Infinity Wards said wrote:

Welcome to the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer BETA!
Congratulations on being selected to participate in the public
 multiplayer
BETA for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
REMEMBER: This beta is currently unreleased to the public. You are part
of a limited Trusted Friends and Family portion of the beta and we ask
that you do not post any screenshots, information, video, or other
media regarding the beta to the public. We appreciate your cooperation in
 this effort. Enjoy!
Your Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer BETA Token is:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (I removed the code because I used it and it was meant to be secret)
To download the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer BETA please
follow the following steps:
1) Turn on your Xbox 360 entertainment console.
2) Go to the MARKETPLACE Blade.
3) Select Redeem Code from the available menu.
4) Enter the Token found above in the available field.
5) Select Download Now.
Upon completion of the download, you may choose to 'Play Now' to
 immediately
start enjoying the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer BETA, or
 for
all future attempts, you can choose the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
 BETA
in the 'Demos and More' menu of your 'GAMES' blade on the Xbox 360
Dashboard.

I almost had a heart-attack...: So, I quickly put in the code and downloaded (surprisingly for a 1 GB file) the beta...So, I was playing it and man is it good...I will try to get some impressions out when the thing goes PUBLIC on MONDAY!

For some of you (and you know who you are), that was rude on what you did......Sending me death threats through XBL for getting the beta...I told you do that through GameSpot......What? You want to be in the beta? Find I'll help you out!

Go here to http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/ and sign up for an account

NOTE: You need to be 18+ and a residence of the U.S.A...It'sXBOX 360 EXCLUSIVE!

Moday starts the test...They will most likely ask you questions about Call of Duty 4...There is going to be ONLY 3 questions and you need to get all of them correct to get the game token. Read up on the beta through their FAQ and good luck to all!

What? You're not from the U.S.A. and you still want in?

Don't worry about a thing. They said that they are going spread out of the US and into difference countries (mostly likely Canada and the UK)...So, everybody can join in the fun before the full version comes out...The beta is amazing...In the other half of the e-mail they said not to put any impressions (or Screen Shots) up until the thing goes public, so I'll have my impressions of the beta up then...All I have to say is that THE PERK SYSTEM SHOULD BE IN ALL GAMES NOW!!! Seriously it's awesome....

Now since that is out of the way, those two things aren't the only ones that made my day fantastic...I almost asked out this one girl, Morgan, out today. She was from my Algebra and Psychology ****last year and I saw her day. I almost asked her out, but didn't work up the courage to......Do you guys have any advice for me?

Also, I want to start spicing up my 'blog' posts...Do you guys have any good suggestions?

Well, have fun and good luck if your going for the COD 4 beta key...Just study all things COD 4 and you should be fine...Have a good day. Leave a comment, thanx...

About Me

Hey. I'm a gamer...I was born and raised in New York for 12 years and then I moved to Arizona for 4 years. Other than gaming I like to watch movies, listen to music;preferrably rap, but I listen to everything except for country, hang out with my friends, go to the park to play football and basketball. I am a Senior in high school and I'm taking college classes at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC), and do freebie sites. I currently own PS2, PS3, XBOX 360, DS Lite, and the 'old school' systems. I used to own a Xbox 1 and a GameCube, but I sold them for my own reasons. The systems I want to get are the Wii and XBOX 360 Elite and the Slimmer version of the PSP....Hopefully the XBOX 360 Elite and the Wii, I can play XB and GC games again and more...:). Also, I love new technology. Technology has interested me since I was little. When I grow older, I plan to persue a masters in Psychology and become a psychologist. Also, for a part time job in a tech related field. With that, I could persue my love of tech and psychology as an adult....:)...Thank you for reading GameSpotters, and have a good day...:).
