MW2 is too addicting and infuriating sometimes...

Its one of those things that you can't control, this game's mp mode keeps you glued to the screen for hours no matter what. Despite the flaws, you keep coming for "one more match" until its 3 sometimes 7 in the morning and you say **** it! "I won't get any sleep tonight". It is a game that allows for campers of getting the upper hand, sometimes lag becomes a factor as to why the opposing player didn't die, until you watch the killcam and see you didn't fire a single shot when you clearly empty the round that makes you go nuts and say WTF?! Checking my gametime for the game I think I've put over 80 hours already in SP, MP, Co op, the scary part is that I only play it 2-3 days a week. Having completed the single player, almost done with veteran (having bother to finish it due to the mp), and the co-op almost done except those echo missions are friggin annoying. Killing 10 juggernauts with a knife and crappy rocket launcher. Seriously?! I'm going to have playing other games and give Uncharted 2 mp a try. Don't know if I'll ever reach Prestige(lvl 70), its effing long but I'm close (lvl 46 currently). Time to get some sleep.

Finished Assassin's Creed 2, Platinum trophy #2!

Well the title pretty much says it all for starters. Finished Assassin's Creed 2 the other night, earning my second Platinum trophy along the way! Luckily you were not required to do everything in the game to earn it, so once I got far enough along, I could stop doing the fairly annoying Races, Courier, Beat Up, Assassination side missions. The Assassination contract side missions were neat though, as they tied up some events from the main story, but I got tired of them. I would say I enjoyed AC2 more than AC1, partly due to the mission structure, which was far less repetitive. Plus the cities felt better this time around, mainly because it was so much easier traversing between the cities. In AC1, I remember there being guards at the entrances to each city, so it was just a pain to exit a city to move to another one. Here, you just walked or rode a horse or even used the fast travel, aka Carriages. While it didn't detract from the game, there was plenty of additional things added to AC2, such as the side missions, plus all the extra weaponry, not to mention the villa. I didn't bother with all the various weapons. I just stuck with the best weapon I could afford. And while I liked the villa, money at the end of the game was a joke, b/c I upgraded the villa early on, so I always had enough money to purchase anything (paintings, pouch upgrades, armor & weapons, etc). While on my feather hunt, at one point I just kept throwing money for fun, easily dropping over 1K at one point (throwing money is -10).

Still, I really enjoyed the game. The gameplay was pretty much on par with the first game, although it felt a tad bit easier this time around. I don't recall any sequence that was very difficult. The dual story was good too. Like in AC1, the main story took place in the Animus, which was good. But the present day story picked up steam as well. The Assassin's Creed story really feels, in base ways, to LOST. You have two main stories present: in LOST its the survivors & the island; in AC its the Animus story and the present day one. The Animus story along with the LOST survivors is for the most part straightforward. It tells a story, simple as that. The island & present day AC stories though are big mysteries. You keep getting clues but there's a lot more going on that you don't know about. Not to mention you still have an underlying us versus them situation, survivors versus Others and Assassins versus Templars. That's pretty much the extent of my comparison, but I like it. While watching the ending, there was one part that made me a little disheartened at the possible direction they are headed, but after rewatching it on YouTube, I've softened on that a little bit, and I can't wait to play Assassin's Creed 3.

---------------------------------------

Meanwhile, now its time for me to pick up on another game. For whatever reason, everytime I finish one game, it takes a few days before I can realistically begin another game in earnest. I'm not sure why that is. The last two days, I just looked at my pile (Dragon Age, Valkyria plus two new arrivals to be revealed shortly) and couldn't decide where to go next. I'm further along in Valkyria than Dragon Age, but I'm at a part of Valkyria that I know will be tough, plus if I need to grind some more, its very slow to grind in Valkyria. However, I'm basically at the beginning of Dragon Age, so that's a tough sell too. Not to mention my two "new" arrivals: Final Fantasy Anthology and Final Fantasy Chronicles, aka Chrono Trigger & Final Fantasy IV-VI. Technically they are new (very surprised Amazon had new copies still), but I originally bought them way back when they came out, but for reasons I don't remember anymore, I never got around to playing them. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and Game Informer's Top 200 Games list, and seeing FF6 and CT, plus talking about both games with a couple friends, and a fire was lit in me to made a concerted effort to play through the two greatest RPGs ever made (at least widely regard as the two greatest). So, as I was looking at Dragon Age & Valkyria, and Borderlands, I had to ponder FF6 and CT as well. And I'm still pondering that even as I'm typing. What I'll probably, and should, do is continue Valkyria as far as I can, then switch to Dragon Age. I'm not going to give up on FF6 or CT anytime soon, or ever. I do have sort of a deadline in mind though, with the clock ticking until early next year when another huge gaming swing is taking place.

Jan 26, Mass Effect 2, Feb 2 White Knight Chronicles, Mar 9 Final Fantasy XIII. Oh boy. Plus there are a number of other games I've kept an eye on, including a trio of GoW/DMC/NG games at the start of the year (Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, Bayonetta) that may or may not be worth looking into. The other games include: Star Ocean: Last Hope International, Heavy Rain, Splinter Cell: Conviction, MLB 10, Resonance of Fate and going a little further, God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption, then Alpha Protocol, Nier, Fallout: New Vegas, and Modnation Racers. Yikes, that's a pretty bloated first half of 2010. Now, most likely that last group of games won't come out til the August-Holiday part, but still. Looks like I'll be busy for quite awhile.

I haven't had a Top 5 post for a long time. Probably for the same reason I only have like two reviews all year, they just take too long to put together and write out. And I've gotten too lazy about it. However, I do have a special Top 5 planned that I do want to get written out in the near future. More of a special feature post than a Top 5, but I am planning on getting it ready, possibly next week. And of course, seeing as the year is winding down, my Top Games of the Year is also on the way. Next week looks to start GameSpots awards, so I'll probably keep my tradition of typing it out around Christmas going. This year's will be interesting, as I truly believe that I am getting really good at only getting games I truly want to play. Its taken most of this decade to finally start to weed out games I don't need and only play games I know I'll like. Honestly, with the Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and the iTouch app store, any bad purchases are WAY cheaper, but even still, I've been good keeping those bad purchases in check. My favorite games of the year list will reflect that.

Finally, I don't think I have more to type about. I have some random errands today and I need to start building another computer, so I probably should get started on that. Oh yeah, GO BROWNS!!!!!!

I got tagged!!1!!1!one!!/SW is teh lovely/banned users

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I GOT TAGGED

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have been tagged by Tagyhag. It seems that her username is quite appropriate for the occasion. What this means is that I have to list a certain number of facts about myself... and then tag someone else. And I am going to do 20. WHY, you ask? Because Mitu123 challenged me to.

1.) I live in Virginia.

2.) I am male (a male on Gamespot?! NO WAY! )

3.) I am 21 years of age.

4.) This is my second Gamespot account. I had a different one waaay back in 2003-2003, aka the lithium days. No, you heathens, I am not bandodging. I stopped posting for like a year and couldn't remember my username or passowrd. So in 2004, I just made a new account.

5.) My primary gaming platform this generation is PC. Behind that is thw Wii. And then behind that is a PS3. I do not own a 360.

6.) Even in this FPS-oversaturated generation of games, I am still kind of an FPS nut.

7.) Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl is my top game this generation. The experience is so far above the rest, IMO.

8.) The first game I ever played was Sonic the Hedgehog. I played it in 1991 on my Sega Genesis... which still gets use today! Take that, Microsoft!

9.) Altogether I own a Sega Genesis, a Sega Gamegear, a Nindendo 64, an Xbox, a Wii, and a Playstation 3. I know what you're thinking. "Organic, you buffoon. You are missing out on a metric TON of great games. You must own more systems. No Gameboy?! EVER?! WTF!!!" And yes, I know that. And I am trying to play through the games I missed.

10.) Believe it or not, I do like some console FPSs. Perfect Dark is one of my all time favourite games, and Timesplitters 3 is one of the best shooters last gen. (Halfway there, Mitu!)

11.) My favourite bands are Radiohead and Pink Floyd.

12.) I am a full time college student, which means I don't have a job, which is why I always complaing about game prices. I am currently studying Earth Science.

13.) I am on a dystopian novel binge. I just finished reading 1984.

14.) I secretly wish that everyone on the streets would converse like all the old founding fathers would, accents and everything. This would make everyday discussion a whole lot more meaningful, and would liven up political debates.

15.) I am politically Indipendent, though if I had to choose a party, I would be libertatian. Which basically means, I am not fond of either Republicans or Democrats. Which also means I have not really supported, well, ANY of our presidents within my memory. It really sucks each time election day rolls around because I ALWAYS have to choose the lesser of two evils. I normally vote against the party that has the most control.

16.) I do not do illegal drugs. Not my thing.

17.) I do however, enjoy certain alcohols. I do not ever drink with the purpose of getting drunk, again, not my style. I drink for the purpose of enjoying the drink. Therefore, I do not drink what I do not like. I know it's all macho to drink straight liquor, but, I'm sorry, no way in hell bud.

18.) I have had one girlfriend in my life. I almost had a second, but the timing as all wrong on just about everything so it never equated to anything.

19.) I am a coffee and tea drinker. I do not use sugar or cream. In my teas, I will, on occasion, put some honey... but only because it does not interfere with the flavour. I only do this with Green Teas.

20.) I think Call of Duty 4 is the most overrated game this generation. Why? Because it is just chock full of bad game design. But nobody cares because of the cool explosions.

Why did I just share that pciture? I do not know. It just makes me lol, that is all. Now, any hoot and hollar, who am I going to tag?!

SW IS TEH LOVELY/BANNED USERS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So for some reason, System Wars has been really interesting recently. I don't know, I've had some great discussions and debates recently. I must feel the polar opposite of everyone else because everyone always complains about how horrible System Wars is with many good users banned. And speaking of users banned, whatever happened to that kid who made multiple accounts a day, proclaiming the glory of Quake 2 and the noobification of modern FPS, and how not being able to jump in FPS was a terrible thing. ..? He was hilarious!! I'm pretty sure that he's got the mighty IP ban. They've got enough banned accounts on that one IP to ban that user for 12 lifetimes. LOL.

So, in memory of that poster, let me pay this tribute... his very best monets:

pure skills lol.

ok...

what did that have to do with anything...

I know, I've posted those before. But those are the ones I have saved on my laptop here. I have a whole lot more saved on my gaming PC. So that is it for a System Wars legend. A hero in the face of fanboys all over the world. I'm sure he or she will find a comfy home in Gamtrailers.

And now that I am quoting people, I might as well throw in some of my other favourite quotes from different users and different boards. Here's one from the PS3 board:

Back, But Not For Long

I was watching the Bioshock Retrospect here on GameSpot and it makes me ill.

All these GameSpot staffers talking about Bioshock as if it's anything more than System Shock 2 with a different plot and watered down gameplay.

When does it end?

Let me clear something up first:

-The storyline of Bioshock is fun and original, and the "Would you kindly" twist was cool. Being a Big Daddy was cool.

-I played Bioshock to the end. The game was not bad, it was just painfully unoriginal and the rabid fans of it annoy me and all need to be corrected for their own sake.

Now let me rant. Despite the above, everything else in Bioshock was a direct ripoff and downgrade from a greater game known as System Shock 2, a PC game that came out over a decade ago that apparently not a single soul on GameSpot, its own editors included, has ever played (or refuse to acknowledge when talking about derivative old Bioshock). Unfortunately, we're living in this era where all new gamers are too young to know of any video game that existed pre-2000, and we have the GameSpot staff who unhelpfully enjoy slurping the mainstream sausage whenever possible, compounding the problem and taking great joy in taking a collective dump on old classics to talk up "the next big thing" even when it's just "the next big ripoff of a better game that came out ten years ago with pretty water." Go look at all of GameSpot's Halo launch parties for evidence of their mainstream sausage slurping.

Any proper retrospective or, hell, any proper review of Bioshock should, out of common courtesy, speak about System Shock 2, the game Bioshock so heavily takes gameplay from and is so derivative of that it even has "shock" in the title.

System Shock 2's class system was miles ahead of Bioshock's. You could only specialize in one area, unlike Bioshock where you can do everything equally well, which is extremely cheap and lame. Want to hack a machine? Can't hack? Oh, just pay the robot money, apparently machines take bribes to buy booze with! Want to shoot guns? Go ahead, you're automatically the most skilled mercenary/gunslinger/soldier in the west somehow! Plasmids you say? Here, have a whole bag!

In System Shock 2, if you couldn't hack, you didn't. Period. In System Shock 2, if you couldn't fire weapons, you didn't. Or you did very, very poorly. If you weren't pyrokinetically inclined in System Shock 2, you didn't cast pyrokinesis. And you most certainly couldn't specialize in all three areas at once.

In Bioshock, you're so boringly overpowered and all the combat/non-combat aspects are so horribly simplified from System Shock 2 that they're an absolute garbage heap. You can do every single thing in the game equally well, which presents you with no challenge and no alternate approaches to getting through levels. You can mow everything down with a machine gun, throw fireballs, and throw wads of cash at security robots simultaneously. You're a super-sneaky machine-gunning plasmid-mage at all times.

Why not just put in an "I win" button? It would have expedited the process of braindead-easy victory that was designed to cater to spoiled console gamers who would have a heart attack if they were told they had to use their heads.

I understand partly why Bioshock was dumbed down from System Shock 2; Bioshock was made for younger console gamers, a casual market no matter how you cut the cake. System Shock 2 is something that is only remembered by serious gamers who find Bioshock offensive when you realize they're trying to sell you something you already played ten years ago with a different coat of paint and gameplay that has been braindeadened to the point of retardation rather than enhanced.

But clearly I'm the crazy one here.

How's Everyones Summer Going?

So I've got exactly 3 weeks left before I have to report to college. Classes start on September 2nd for me, but I have to move in on August 30th. For those that don't know yet, I'm going to Stony Brook University and I plan to go into the Biomedical engineering major. But I have a feeling that will change, but only time will tell. I've already gotten my fall schedule, and it's looking fairly decent. Only on Wednesday I've got a 8:30am-2:50pm day with about a hour break somewhere in there and an 8:20am-1:45pm day with a 35 minute break somewhere in there on Tuesday. Otherwise, everyday I get out of classes before 1pm. So I have about 3-4 hours of class stuff and the rest of the day to myself. Weekends I'll probably return home and try to work somewhere since I live less than an hour and half away.

So that's school stuff anyways, my summer is going pretty well in general. I work 25 hours a week with minimum wage, which sounds pretty crappy, but my job is pretty alright. I don't do much work, and I don't do anything that's particularly difficult. My boss and coworkers are all pretty cool and nice people. So they don't mind that I come like half hour late everyday, and take 2 hour lunch breaks almost everyday. I spend a good portion of my time there just reading Yahoo news because almost everything else is blocked. So I live for breaking news. Since my girlfriend works only 20 blocks away from me and gets out of work an hour after I do, I wait for her everyday. I've also got a couple friends that work at Ben and Jerry's two train stops away, which is where I usually meet my gf. There I get free stuff and I chill for an hour and talk or read a newspaper or whatever. Outside my work days, I usually go out once or twice between Friday and Monday since there's no work for me those days. Yesterday I went to the beach and it was pretty fun. I came home past midnight though so I got yelled at by my mom and she's still yelling at me. Which is the only problem this summer, that my mom goes crazy when I come home late, which kinda sucks. She's also against me leaving home to go to college and my relationship...crappy stuff. But all is ohkay for now I guess. As for the rest of the summer, work will be over on the 14th. I get to go to Gracie Mansion, which is the mayors mansion on the 18th which should be fun. Other than that, I don't have any special plans for anything for the remainder of my lovely summer.

Anyways, how's everyones summer going.

You all belong to Sony, mind and soul, but your body's belong to MC Donalds

Five Hundred Million Dollars is the price of global domination. I won't bother repeating what has already been said about the Warner Brothers' prostitution to Sony, and I won't bother ranting about it either. One more company has been added to the long long list of companies that lost all integrity when they signed a contract with Sony, the company that cannot make it without payoffs. I'll let my friend Belpowerslave over at Whip Ass Gaming say the rest. This will also be the last time I click on Gamespot in any browser, ever, so don't bother replying to this blog post I will not see it.

Stupid Xbox
Hey Everyone,

Just a quick update for tonight.  So I was playing Oblivion on my Xbox a few minutes ago and for some reason the game just starting freezing and crashing like crazy.  I've been playing for over 100 hours so far and not once have I had an issue with anything like this.
So I took the disk out, checked for scratches, cleaned the disk, I thought "Hey, it said I should clean the disk so why don't I do that?"  Nope, didn't work.  There are no scratches on the disk.  There's no nothing.  So, I have no idea what's wrong.  I'll probably have to spend another 60 bucks for a brand new one since I don't want to try my luck with a used one.
And in case you're wondering, no, it's not the Xbox.  No other game I have has this problem so it has the be Oblivion.  God, I'm so pissed off right now.  I don't want to have to buy another copy.  Since I paid 60 bucks for this stupid piece of polycarbonate plastic I expect it to work.  I wouldn't be upset if there was a scratch on it and I put it there.  But there IS NO SCRATCH!!!!  WHY IS IT ACTING LIKE A PIECE OF S*&T!!
Gahhhh, I'm too upset right now.  I have to go relax or something.

Finally getting an xbox360!
In about 4 weeks I get my xbox360. I can't wait, I want to have it for a very long time. But I'm not sure which games I'm going to buy. So if anyone wants to recommend a game to me, just post a message . One game that's for sure is Saints Row, since I want to buy the Saints Row packet. A friend of my has an xbox360 and I liked Rockstar's Table Tennis very much so maybe I'm going to buy that game too. And I also have an xbox, so I can play my xbox games on the 360.

Zombie Thugs in Harmony
I totally suck at updating this blog, sorry for anyone that actually takes the time to read it, don't think I don't appreciate it! Not too much going on gaming wise these days though.

I'm still playing Dead Rising, which I have completed once and got the bad ending, which is too bad because I was standing on the helipad waiting at the right time. Oh well, playing through the second time is actually more enjoyable than the first time. You're leveled up enough that you can take on pretty much anything that was ultra challenging the last time, and you're fast enough to complete a lot more of the escort missions. Also having a better understanding of when you have free time to do those missions helps to organize your time in a more effective manner. In anycase, I'm hoping to play through a lot of it this weekend.

I also picked up Saints Row last week, and while I"ve been busy slaughtering zombies for the most part, I've messed around with this title a little bit and its quite fun. Especially the Insurance Fraud missions. Although i'm not a huge fan of the "urban" (read: hip hop/rap) leanings of this game, I DO love the prospect of a GTA game with character creation in it. Its pretty much what sold me on the game. We do need a patch though. It needs to fix A) online, and B) the v-sync problems that the framerate seems to have.
