Family Guy / Twin Peaks / Music Reviews / Mock the Week

Helloooooo everyone . I had all my stuff to post about Family Guy and Placebo and then it vanished from my computer...not quite sure how but ah well. So instead there's a shorter thing on Family Guy, as well as TV and music reviews and stuff from Mock the Week...

TV

Family Guy - I've now seen series one and five. I think five is infinitely better, with the first season relying too much on a couple of weak jokes an episode that aren't really that funny. Whilst series five has the classic first two episodes PTV and Brian Goes to College that never fail to make me laugh! The good: good performances from the cast, great one-liners, likeable characters. The bad: too much of a reliance on jokes irrelevant to the actual story, an occasional lack of plotting, sometimes just going over the top and becoming stupid.

Twin Peaks - after re-discovering the DVD of series one on my shelf, I re-watched it and was reminded of why I liked it so much the first time round. This really is an excellent show. Despite being made at the start of the nineties, the age doesn't really affect it. At first glance, this is a murder-mystery show that is absolutely bloody bonkers, and I suppose it is - with a lot more to it than that. The characters are engaging, and you get to know them, and want to know more about them. FBI Agent Dale Cooper is one of the most likeable lead 'good guys' there has ever been, with his great obsessions with 'damn good coffee', cherry pie, strange investigation methods and frequent comments to his Dictaphone which he addresses Diane. Most of the leads for the murder investigation come from weird dreams and visions involving giants, men called Bob and Mike, and a dancing midget in a red room who speaks backwards. Yes, really.

The 4400 - once upon a time I loved this show. Its first season, and some of the second season dealt with the emotions of the characters so well. But on the outset of the third series, and continuing into the fourth, it seems, over-arching plots have over-ridden the character stuff, and the show's just become a bit boring, to be honest.

Music

Placebo: Placebo - this band's first album, and a very good one it is too. After initially disliking the songs here, they grew on me immensely, and now Come Home, Bionic, and Hang on To Your IQ are among my favourite songs. 9/10

Queens of the Stone Age: Lullabies to Paralyze - criticized by many QOTSA fans for being a weak album, I disagree for the most part. Songs such as Little Sister, I Never Came and Burn the Witch are great, and the album only begins to tail off towards the end, with some longer, less interesting entries. 7/10

Razorlight - Razorlight - a million times better than their previous album Up All Night, there are no tracks on here I dislike. Favourite songs: Before I Fall to Pieces and Los Angeles Waltz. 10/10

Bands and some of their songs I'm listening to at the moment

Queens of the Stone Age - Sick, Sick, Sick / Little Sister / Into the Hollow / I'm Designer

R.E.M. - The Great Beyond / Losing My Religion / Nightswimming

Placebo - The Crawl / Allergic / This Picture / Come Home

Fall Out Boy - This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race / Thnks Fr Th Mmrs

Angels and Airwaves - It Hurts / Distraction / Start the Machine

Mock the Week

-- Unlikely lines to find in the Bible --

"St Paul's third epistle to the Corinthians: 'Dear Corinthians, I've written to you twice now. No reply. I don't know how you do things in Corinth, but where I'm from, that's a bit rude.'"

"And God said, 'Right, that's all the fourteen commandments, now will you remember all of those?'"

"Table for twelve, Jesus? I can do two sixes at 8:30."

-- Unlikely lines to find in a James Bond film --

"I'll have an egg roll, scrambled, not boiled."

"Everything's ready for your mission, Bond. All you need to do is fill out this health and safety risk assessment."

"We'd better slow down, there are speed cameras."

Thank you for reading, bye byeeeeeeee

I feel the same way about The 4400, during it's first and second season it was great but somewhere in the third seasons things just started to go downhill and honestly I get really bored just trying to sit and watch an episode. I'll commit to the rest of the season but if it goes on any longer I can't promise I'll stay on board.

Yeah, family guy is funny but it does lack a lot. I do manage to laugh more than once on the rare occasions I actually watch it, but I do think it is okay

Shawn: Twin Peaks rocks
SMGSlayer97: Yeah, I found it a real struggle to get through season 3 of The 4400.
Adrestea: A lot of eps are average but occasionally I find one that makes me laugh A LOT

On Friday, I watched a Season Six episode of Family Guy on BBC Three. Now you talk about veering off plot with the flashbacks, but this was much worse. The worst I think they've ever done.

Every now and then they have Peter having fights with chickens (I don't know whether you've seen them). Anyway, this once lasted over five minutes. That's five minutes of a twenty-minute episode. It was awful!

You can see it here if you want (but it'll be a waste of five minutes):

Otherwise, the show's great!

And those Mock of the Week lines were good.
