Searching for Jerry Garcia Proof
""
Rating:5 stars*****

From 2003 to 2005, Proof made us wait for his Searching For Jerry Garcia LP.
During those two year quest for talented guitarist Jerry Garcia, he has kept working hard on two jewels, two mixtapes, I Miss The Hip Hop Shop and Grown Man Shit. He has developed a style of his own.
Deshaun Holton is a perfectionist who comes up with an brand new explosive album.

Detroit is in the house! Besides very interesting artistic collaborations like B-Real of Cypress Hill and Methodman, Proof hasn’t forgotten about his hometown : many Detroit talents like Obie Trice, BR Gunna, First Born of Purple Gang, King Gordy, J Hill and many more have contributed to Searching For Jerry Garcia.

The first track called Knice brings us back to the atmosphere of DJ Knice’s Detroit Hip Hop Awards at St Andrews.
From the very beginning to the end, you can feel Proof’s realness. He’s the kind of man who won’t let money corrupt his real me. True to the local scene, Proof expresses his love for his homies during the whole CD.

Clap With Me is mixed with rich musical themes that are announced in Grown Man Shit and makes you feel Proof on the run, always trying to be « better than best ».

Proof’s album has not been made for oversensitive souls: the better Proof gets in his artistic inspiration, the darker his themes. Death, suicide, invitations to suicide are numerous on the album.
Proof mentions the murder of John Lennon and Kurt Kobain’s suicide. By mentioning Jerry Garcia and icons like John Lennon and Kurt Kobain, Proof’s constant quest for real artists is constant. Contrary to a common opinion, a real and talented artist is a rare thing. So many so called « artists » have nothing to offer to their public but some weak commercial music: obviously they are just the « product » of the music industry. Unfortunately, they have no artistry and originality of their own to offer.
Proof is totally right about it:

« It’s exactly that, they were icons within the music industry. The biggest things about those guys are that they were artists. Today in the industry, man, you get a lot of the artists who duplicate what is already out there. They make it like everyone is manufactured as a product; they don’t even want to be an artist no more. »

The second thing is that a real artist never exists only by himself. If you have a look at any great artist, he has always been inspired by other past and contemporary great artists. The concept of an « artist » never excludes the concept of the « fan ».An real artist is also a fan, a music lover. Proof has never stopped being a fan: a fan of international artists and a fan of the local Detroit scene. You can see him on MTV and freestyling in his hometown afterwards as well.

Track Nr 3, Bilboa Theme reminds us of Proof’s constant quest for the talented guitarist Jerry Garcia actually was.

Proof’s album might explore the darkest themes, it also offers the attentive listener more insight about Deshaun’ s sensitive side. On track Nr5, Forgive Me in collaboration with 50 Cent, Proof asks God for forgiveness for his words and actions. It explains his dysfunctional family and his quick temper, his mistakes. Sounds of violin mixed up with piano sounds and rapid beats will make your heart melt in no time. Flashback to the time Bugz was still alive and words of love and recognition addressed to his long time friend Marshall…pure emotions. Proof pours his heart out.

Track 6 in collaboration with Detroit group Purple Gang is more offensive and aimed at Proof’s enemies who keep running their mouth.

Among Proof’s most valuable tracks, I’d highly recommend High Rollers featuring B-Real and Methodman, Pimplikeness featuring D12 (Eminem is present on the track too),72nd & Central featuring Obie Trice and J-Hill. Also, Don’t miss track Nr20, Kurt Kobain, an excellent and dark « Goodbye » track in which Proof applies to his well known quote: « “If I was you, suicide would be a way of life. If you was me , you’d kill you.” A touching ode to suicide that won’t leave the listener indifferent.

Drugs and hoes are part of Derty Harry’s universe. The streets of Detroit are represented from the beginning to the end. Deshaun Holton has shown his full integrity as an artist. His realness is touching. If you love pure hip hop, you gonna love this album.

The musical background of Searching For Jerry Garcia is rich. Proof is always in search of new sounds and new techniques. Violons, piano, guitar, keyboard sounds, xylophones and many other instruments will make you appreciate the masterpiece Searching For Jerry Garcia actually is. Searching For Jerry Garcia deserves 5 stars. Check it out: it is really worth your interest.

Bizarre Hip-Hop
""
Rufus Johnson aka Bizarre aka Peter S. Bizarre was born on July the 5 th 1976.
There is a story behind Bizarre’s nickname. He was called “Bizarre Kid” by a teacher because he used to talk to himself and to rap in the class:

“I was like 10 or so, in the 5th grade...I used to talk to myself and say raps to myself in the classroom and one day my teacher said I was a Bizarre Kid. I was just stuck.”

Bizarre’s character is as ill as his rhymes:

“I’m the type of guy that talks to bums, I don’t avoid to greet them. I ask them for money, before they can can ask me.”

In 1998, Bizarre released his “Attack Of The Weirdos”. To Bizarre, “weird” means out of norm, original:

”I don’t mean in the literal sense, I’m tired of the same ol’ bullshit:jiggy this, player that...”weird in the sense that is out of norm, and people are afraid of stuff that’s different.”

KRS-One has been a huge source of inspiration for Bizarre who “loved how arrogant he was.”

About his own musical style, Bizarre says:

“My style is unorthodox and ill- been that way till day one. I always wanted to be different. When I was young, I was battling niggas twice my age.”

Bizarre has collaborated with many artists such as Outsidaz young Zee, Pace Won, Rah Digga. He’s also done concerts with Redman, Alkaholiks and Method Man.

Bizarres rhymes distinguish him among his fellows in the D12 group: they are sick and funny at the same time. His talent and his originality could hardly be denied.

His collaboration with Eminem has brought him into fame. Before they were famous, Proof, Kon Artis Kuniva and Eminem used to hang out and to participate to the rap competion at the Hip Hop shop at 7 Mile Road. Before being famous, the five emcees already had some recognition on the local scene.

Bizarre describes his complementary collaboration with Eminem that way:

“I would pick a lot of sick shit to my partner, Eminem, and we’d build off each other.”

Bizarre and Eminem combined: a beautiful example is shown through the “Amityville song”:

[Chorus: (Eminem)]
Mentally illll from Amityvilllle (ILLLL)
Accidentally killll your family stillll
Thinkin he won't? God-damnit he willll (HE'SSSS)
Mentally illll from Amityvilllle
{HE'SSSS} - [on repeats only]

I get lifted and spin til I'm half-twisted
Feet planted and stand with a grin full of chapped lipstick [SMACK]
Pen full of ink, think sinful and rap sick shit
Shrink pencil me in for my last visit
Drink gin til my chin's full of splashed whiskers [whoosh]
Hash whiskey and ash til I slap bitches [smack]
Ask Bizzy, he's been here the past six years
Mash with me you'll get in imagine this

[Chorus 2X]

[Bizarre]
I fucked my cousin in his asshole, slit my mother's throat
{AHHHHHHHH!} Guess who Slim Shady just signed to Interscope?
My little sister's birthday, she'll remember me
For a gift I had ten of my boys take her virginity
{Mmm mm mmm!} And bitches know me as a horny ass freak
Their mother wasn't raped, I ate her pussy while she was 'sleep
Pissy-drunk, throwin up in the urinal (YOU FUCKIN HOMO!)
That's what I said at my dad's funeral

As the song goes on, the lyrics are getting sicker and sicker. The scary atmosphere that is introduced by Slim Shady (the character) a well known psychopath killer and sexual maniac is darkened by Bizarre’s huge amount of disgusting details about rape and crime. Both MC’s talent combined makes us enjoy the scary tale of “Amityville”.

It is less known that Bizarre collects shower caps and tire irons. He also has a passion for pets and loves to kiss them.

Rufus Johnson is a real nice person. I will never forget my short encounter with him at Paris Bercy.

Hanni Cap Circus Bizarre
""
B12, D12’s « biggest » member welcomes you to his « Hanni Cap Circus ».

Sit down in your chair and relax: just be prepared for some dope and crazy music. Rufus Johnson aka Bizarre is D12’s illest member. Known for his sick rhyming style since his childhood, he earned the nickname « Bizarre Kid » from one of his teachers when he was about 10 years old.

Anybody who is not convinced about Bizarre’s skills should take time to have a look at the Attack Of The Weirdos.

Hanni Cap Circus introduces you into D12’s new star’s world. Another weirdo in the band has reached the superstar status as « B12 ».

Bizarre will prove to the world that he is far from being average.

The introduction will make you think about the Devil’s Night introduction…the only difference is that it is brought to you by Bizzy, that « fat shower cap wearing nibble rubbing son of a bitch ».

The new lead singer of the band is politically incorrect on purpose and mentions gays, handicapped people and lesbians.

So before you get mad at him, sit back in your chair, relax, roll it and put your blunt up!

This was just a metaphor for you to understand that Bizarre shouldn’t be taken literally. All you have to do is enjoy the music and get his sense of humor.

His gospel -weed song is written in a « stinky-hinky » Snoop Dogg style combined with a Negro- spiritual melody, which makes an original song. Combined with some catchy beats, the whole song is funny . It also parodies religious fanatism: Catholics and Jehovah witnesses are clearly mentioned. This might be Bizarre’s revenge from his teenage years. When his mom suddenly became a Jehovah witness, all of a sudden his freedom was restrained.

Sing along and enjoy!

Let The Record Skip will strangely remind you of « Under The Influence »: " My Dj’s in a coma for letting the record skip."

D12 is in the house in Bizarre’s album. The « Fuck Your Life » song , an excellent Denaun Porter production is written in a « psycho » style.

The electric guitar and keyboard sound reinforce the sick atmosphere. Bizarre, pill popping as always, fucking « anything that walks » like Slim Shady, doesn’t really give a damn about a life.

He will rape a handicapped bitch along with Proof and Hex (from the Fat Killaz). He doesn’t give a fuck about Britney Spears and so high that he doesn’t know « who the fuck D12 is ».

I’m In Luv Witchu makes some fun of R. Kelly’s wherabouts with teenage girls. It is fulfilled with sexual details and Bizarre gets dirty, dirty with a mad rhythm.

He first acts as if he loved the girl and then his love suddenly turns into hatred.

Rockstar features Bizarre in his « new lead singer of the band » role. You will probably appreciate his sense of humor while listening to the funky style song.

Ghetto Music features Swifty and King Gordy.

It pictures the start of a wonderful sunny day. It is all about chilling, enjoying his freedom, smocking some good weed and listening to ghetto music. Bizzy wants « to get high and listen the music ».

In « I’m So Cool », Bizarre humors himself through his relationship to girls. He has a kind of « Hollywood gangsta » attitude and the admiration he gets from his groupies.

Drums and keyboards add to Bizarre’s relaxed attitude.

Enter Bizzy’s crazy « Porno Bitches » world. Don’t be afraid of his strong and graphic language, just enjoy his ill rhymes and catchy beats. Just face it:Doggy Style and orgasms belong to B12’s world!

Bad Day, a hot Eric Sermon production , uses samples of Ice Cube’s song « It Was A Bad Day » is funny and worth listening to. It will remind you of some days who just start the wrong way. Particularly when you find out your best friend is gay.

« Hip Hop » , produced by Eminem and « Doctor Doctor » featuring Obie Trice will enchant hip hop lovers with their crazy style.

The violin that goes with « Doctor Doctor » adds to the light and funny atmosphere of some weed addict’s complaint.

Hanni Cap Circus is the album that will help to make your summer holidays enjoyable. Fulfilled with humor, great collaborations, mad rhymes and ill sounds, you will enter into Rufus Johnson’s new world.

Track 20, Nuthing At All, a well made Denaun Porter production closes the door to the Bizarre show and reminds you that D12 is in the house and doesn't give a fuck about anything.

There is a new raising star in D12: Bizarre. Just relax and take some time to listen to a valuable and dope album.

My 1st Single
""

"My First Single " is one of Eminem's Encore tracks that has been criticized most. If you ask yourself why, the answer probably lies in the huge amount of childish expressions and sounds like farting sound that Eminem uses for his song.
A further examination of the song will reveal us that Eminem attacks the sugarcoated bubblegum world of pop and its artists.
Usually many people get mad at Marshall because he dares making fun of people. They are shocked about what he says. The same people seem to forget that Eminem had been engaged at the Aftermath label to produce shock songs.
You might not have noticed it, but Marshall totally humors himself in the first verse. He humors his haters. He also humors the pressures he gets from his label to produce a "shock value":

"Shady's the label
Aftermath is the stable
That the horses come out erra
Of course we're about to stir up
Some shit thick as Mrs Buttersworth's syrup
It's the mr. picked on Christopher Reeves
Just for no reason other than the just to tease him
Cause he was as big as ?? He used to be Superman
Now we're pourin liquor on the crib in his name for him
Eminem you wait till' we meet up again
Fucker I'm kickin your ass for everything you've ever said
It's one for the money two for the fuckin show
Ready get set, let's go
Here comes the bucking bronco stompin and stampedin up the damn street
Like them buffalo soldiers, I told ya I'm bout' to blow
So look out below, geronimo, motherfuckers is dominos
I'm on a roll, around and around I go
When will I stop? I don't know..."
Eminem is often under pressure when the label wants a new single. Of course, artistically Eminem is totally free to produce what he wants to...as long as his work meets the label's requirements. At the time he wrote the Marshall Mathers Lp, the label wasn't really satisfied about some of its "requirements". Those high pressures put on Eminem's shoulders are illustrated by the humorous "Steve Berman" skit:
Eminem
Steve Berman (Skit):
"
Eminem: Heyyy
Steve: Hey, Em, what's up?
Eminem: Steve Berman. What's goin' on, man, how you doin?
Good to see you again. What's up?
Steve: Em, could you come here and have a seat, please?
Eminem: Umm, yeah, what's...
Steve: Vannessa, shut the door.
Secretary: Okay.
Eminem: So what's up? How's orders looking for the first week?
Steve: It would be better if you gave me nothing at all.
Eminem: Wh-
Steve: This album is less than nothing. I can't sell this f*cking record.
Eminem: Wha-
Steve: Do you know what's happening to me out there?
Eminem: Wh-wha-what's the problem?
Steve: Violent Ground told me to go fuck myself!
Eminem: Who's Violent...?
Steve: Tower Records told me to shove this record up my ass!
Do you know what it feels like to be told to have a record shoved up your ass?
Eminem: But, I-
Steve: I'm gonna lose my fucking job over this
You know why Dre's record was so successful?
He's rappin' about big-screen tv's, blunts, 40's and bitches.
You're rappin' about homosexuals and Vicadin.
Eminem: I mean-
Steve: I can't sell this shit!
Eminem: What-
Steve: Either change the record or it's not coming out!
Eminem: What, I-
Steve: Now get the fuk out of my office!
Eminem: What am I supposed-
Steve: NOW!
Eminem: Alright man, whatever."

The Marshall Mathers Lp didn't exactly meet the label's expectations, but it had so many "shocking elements" inside of it, that it met their requirements in any case. No other Eminem album has stired up so much controversy than the Marshall Mathers Lp.
You didn't like what he just said on his album?
Marshall sarcastically reminds people that he's on a payroll.

Verse 2 targets the fakeness of the world of pop:

Erra Erra Eric swallowed some generic sleeping pills
And woke up in bed next to his best friend Derick bare naked
chicka chicka chicka ..
And then just turned 16 and used a fake id
To sneak in V.I.P. to see R. Kelly
Hehehehehe, to be so young and naive
Oh what I wouldn't give to live so Kim and care free
Paris and Nikki's parents must be so tickled to cherish
Every picture with their kids with hickeys all over their necks
Hickory Dickory derr digga
Look at me work wizardry with these words
Am I a jerk or just jerk chicken
Or Chicka chicka chicka chicka jer jer jerkin the chain
22 jerks and a jerk circle
Or is it a circle jerk or wait a minute
What am I sayin, allow me to run it back and rewind it
rrrbb lemme ask you again
Am I just jerkin the chain
Am I bizerk or insane
Or am I just one of them damn amateurs
Workin the damn camera filmin one of them
Paris Hilton home made pornos
Who keeps tiltin the lens at an angle
Chicka Chicka
Just recently somebody just discovered
Britney and Justin videotapes of them fuckin
When they were just mouseketeers in the Mickey Mouse club
And dusted them and went straight to The Source with them
Cause they coulda sworn someone said Nuh-
And then tried to erase and record over it
But if you listen close enough to it you can hear the
Ga-Uh and then the come to find out it was Justin
Sayin 'I'm done-uh!' Come on
And this was suppose to be

None of the artists mentioned in the second verse will be able to escape from Eminem's sarcasm.
R Kelly's sex scandals with underage girls are openly mentioned.
Eminem made the Just Lose It video with Paris Hilton, if you remember well. He also disses her and her parents about some embarassing facts that are related on the following website:

http://www.bettydodson.com/parisembarrassed.htm

Some people may be shocked by the two faces of Eminem: on one hand, he collaborates with a person, on the other hand he criticizes her openly. In fact, it has nothing shocking in itself. Eminem requested Paris Hilton's collaboration for "Just Lose It", because Paris fitted in the role of a selfish party girl. Paris' well known narcissism couldn't escape Eminem's sarcasms:

'Well, I love Paris. I love her almost as much as she loves herself.' (Eminem)
Later on Marshall gave a further explanation for dissing Paris on his CD. Knowing Eminem well as an entertainer, some people seem to forget that he is also a responsible dad, who raises several little girls at his home. And he feels concerned about the image Paris portrays, which shouldn't be a model for Hailie, nor Whitney, nor Alaina:
.' I try not to attack people who haven't attacked me first. As far as the image she portrays right now, as far as the way my girls look at her, do I want them to grow up to be like that? No. But for a video, for entertainment, that's a different thing. The song is about goin' to the club and losin' it, and you get so drunk you say the wrong thing. And we needed somebody to punch me, slap me and pull my hair. Our first candidate was Jessica Alba. We couldn't get Jessica, and Paris happened to be in town."
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are also ridiculed in the same second verse.

The third verse will leave some listeners with no voice. It is aimed at the usual Eminem haters who don't get his message nor his sense of humor. Marshall leaves no place for a compromise: he will say whatever he has to say. You don't like it? Marshall clearly tells you to fuckoff.

Rain Man

Track Review

Rain Man
""
« Rain Man » is one of those provocative Eminem songs that will make you laugh crazy.
Some people are just to shy to express their anger against censorship…Eminem is ready for a new anti- censorship crusade.
The song is funny and the crazy melody will make you feel Eminem’s humor and his sarcasms. It will make more than one conservative person uncomfortable and Marshall did it on purpose. Guess Mr Mathers’ amusement in anticipating people’s reactions…that’s also where the listener’s pleasure lies.
You find him offensive? He finds you offensive for finding him offensive and not letting him say what he has to say:

« You find me offensive? I find you offensive
For finding me offensive
Hence if I should draw a line on any fences
If so to what extents if
Any, should I go? 'Cause it's getting expensive
Being on the other side of the courtroom on the defensive
They say that I cause extensive
Psychological nerve damage to the brain when I go to lengths this,
Far at other people's expenses
I say your all just too god damn sensitive
It's censorship
And it's down right blasphemous… »

This is certainly an attack against oversensitive people who keep overanalyzing his lyrics (without understanding them, though.)

Many people have never understood Eminem’s way of mentioning Christopher Reeves, who clearly appears in the song « Who Knew » from the Marshall Mathers LP and also in The D12 song « Purple Pills ». The fact that Eminem targeted a handicapped person has been misinterpreted in so many ways.
People think twice, before picturing Eminem as an horrible and rude guy:
The different allusions to Christopher Reeves are a huge fist against Lynne Cheney’s concept of political correctness, a concept that has been reviewed and explained by Philip Atkinson:

http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:BV_D24T_CZIJ:www.users.bigpond.com/smartboard/pc.htm++political+correctness&hl=en

In fact, Superman (who has been interpreted by Christopher Reeves) was Marshall’s childhood hero, as he explains it futher on in the song:

« Let's end this shit now cause I won't stand for this
and Christopher Reeves won't sit for this neither
and let's clear this up too I ain’t got no beef with him either
he used to be like a hero to me
I even believe I had one of those 25 cent stickers
on my refrigerator right next to Darth Vader… »

If Superman wasn’t an important character to Eminem, why would he have chosen to call track 13 on The Eminem Show « Superman »? Why would he talk about Superman on « Stimulate » saying:

« I love my job…makes me feel like Superman… »

Also, why would he dress as « Superman » in the Purple Pills video?

Eminem needs to be read under the lines: always be careful before getting mad at him at first sight.

Maybe we can read a little feeling of guiltiness for targeting the Superman hero who died recently at the age of 52:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movies/10/11/obit.reeve.ap/

« and Darth must have put a hex on him for later
I feel like its my fault cause of the way that
I stuck him off in between him and Lex Luther
I killed Superman I killed Super...Man
and how ironic that I'd be the bad guy kryptonite
the green chronic »

But there is also a great irony contained in the few lines above: because of his many « killer rhymes », Eminem also appears in many people’s minds as the arrogant man who dares attacking and making fun of everybody.

The second verse is another hard hit at conservative and religious fanatics. The many references to « forbidden and sinful » sex are here to piss those kind of people off. I guess religious people will see red while listening to Eminem mentioning lesbian, bisexual sex and gay intercourse;

Marshall’s way of telling sex stories is funny:

«
Now in the Bible it says
thou shall not watch two lesbians in bed
have homosexual sex
unless of course you were given the consent to join in
then of course it's intercourse and it bisexual sex
which isn't as bad as long as you show some remorse for your actions
either before, during, or after performing the act of that which
is normally referred to as such more commonly known phrases
that are more used by today kids… »

Did he just stab religious freaks and shock them? I guess so…

But the worst is to come. Eminem’s references to « accidental gay sex » will certainly raise hell among religious people:

« let ask Dr. Dre
Dr. Dre (what up?)
I got a question if i may (yea)
is it gay to play putt putt golf with a friend (yea)
and watch his butt butt when he tees off (yea)
but but i ain’t done yet
in football a quarterback yells out hut hut
while he reaches in another grown man's ass
grabs on his nuts, but just what if
it was never meant, it was just an accident
but he tripped, fell, slipped and his penis went in
his teeny, tiny, little, round hiney
and he didn't mean it but his little weenie flinched just a little bit
and I don't need to go into any more details
but what if he pictured it as a female's butt
is that gay? I just need to clear things up
til then I'll just walk around with a manly strut because... »
Eminem never forgets to humor himself which is part of his artistic greatness: he refers to him as « Rain Man ». Marshall’s high level of fame makes him resemble to the Rain Man movie character Raymond who is a genius in solving mathematical equations, but who is an autist. Raymond is gifted, but unable to communicate with the world and to love anyone.
Eminem’s gift is his ability to rhyme…which made a prisoner of him. Prisoner of his fame, watching the world from his golden cage.

The third verse is funny as well:

« You find me offensive
I find you offensive...
shit this is the same verse, I just did this
when am I gonna come to my good senses?
probably the day Bush comes to my defenses
my spider senses telling me Spider-Man is nearby
and my plan is to get him next and open up a whoop ass canister
god damnit Dre where's the god damn beat (yea) anyway
anyway I don't know how else to put it
this is the only thing that I'm good at
I am the bad guy kryptonite, the green chronic
demonic, yep yep, don't worry I'm on it, I got it
high-fived Nick Lechey, stuck a pin in Jessica's head and walked away
and as she flew around the room like a balloon
I grabbed the last can of chicken tuna out the trash can
and flew my ass straight back to the Neverland Ranch
with a peanut butter jelly chicken tuna sandwhich
and I don't even gotta make no god damn sense
I just did a whole song and I didn't say shit… »

Eminem made his funny and subtle wordplays…and came to the conclusion:

« I just did a whole song and I didn't say shit… »

Marshall made his song for the pleasure of rhyming, which is his first intention. Don’t try to see something bad in everything the illest rhymer on the planet does, but rather enjoy our gifted wordsmith putting his words together from the mind of a genius.
