3 year anny at Gamespot

So last week was my 3 year anniversary for being here at Gamespot, and not a lot has changed, from a forum standpoint that is. System wars is still the same, same debates and such. However, Gamespot as a site itself has changed greatly, and I don't think it'll ever be the same after the Jeff G incident.

After 3 years, I have encountered many great people, good posters, rabid fanboys, and of course, idiots. So 3 cheers for me, for surviving System Wars 3 years and running!

Back to the good ol' days

So I never did beat Zelda : Ocarina of time true story....

So now with the Wii VC ive gone back to beat this damn game once and for all. For a game that came out almost 10 years ago on the N64, its still a blast to play, and an amazing achievement for the N64, and gaming in general for that time period. Im not too far in, and im already getting nostalgia flashbacks of the N64 days.

The controls are sort of frustrating however, converting an N64 game to the Wii classic controller doesn't work exactly perfect. The C buttons are replaced with the analog stick, which makes for easy mistakes when playing a song on the ocarina. The Z button is replaced with L for some reason, even though there is a Z button on the classic controller. There was no X or Y on the N64 controller, and yet, if you press them accidently, Link still performs some random function. Basically what im saying is, I wish my N64 still worked...

The game from what I remember and from what ive played, is still an amazing ride and a truely epic adventure. So if you're like me and never did beat it, get it now.

Whats wrong with System Wars?

Whats wrong with System Wars? For me its several reasons, the sales vs games arguement, the mods not keeping things under control, seems like they love the flame wars, and the ongoing illogical hate and arguements. Old threads being repeated and repeated, rarely any logical posters, etc.

First the sales vs games arguement, this is really getting ridiculous. Im surprised even mods start this garbage. Obviously games are more important because we are the consumer, we play the games. But sales are just as important, while ignorant fanboys deny it. Good sales bring developers that bring exclusive experiences to that console, look at the PS2 last gen. Sony lovers loved sales last gen, now they are ignoring them since they are in last place? Not surprising.

Next all of the illogical hate threads, and pointless arguments. System wars is getting so boring with all of these mindless fanboys who just create thread after thread of illogical hate and pointless arguements. At least create something compelling, it seems like you can't have a compelling arguement anymore, its just, "Your system sucks, mine is better".

The new rating system seems to me that it was created for System wars, Gamespot can get more publicity from a more tight and controversial rating system. Look at MP3 8.5, or Bioshock 9.0. And all of this "flop" crap is annoying, sure the game didn't live up to the hype, but people act like games that flop aren't still great. Sure games like HS and MP3 flopped, but they are still "great" games, even by GS standards. The official hype threads are eventually going to drive everyone mad, Halo 3 will be the first example of this imo, since I think it will score a 8.5.

Personally for me, there are even more problems with System Wars, its just a mess right now, and its getting out of hand, the mods need to be more strict on what everyone is doing in System Wars, you shouldn't just be able to say something sucks, and not be able to back it up, over half the people in System Wars are just flaming and trolling and aren't getting consequences for it.
