A Tisket, A Tasket, My Cat Was On the Basket!

I've been tending five African Violet plants since January. They had gotten nice and bushy, and also were getting pretty tall. I had them on the shelf above my desk at work. About a month ago, I noticed that one of the plants was losing its leaves. They were withering, and there was some mold growing on the plant. I removed that plant so that the others wouldn't get infected. Well one by one, the plants started showing the same symptoms. I was down to one healthy plant by last Friday. I decided to take the last plant home, since something at my office was causing the plants to die. I put the plant in a basket in the bathroom on the back of the commode, since African Violets like moisture and there's plenty of moisture in the bathroom because of the shower.

Last night, I heard a crash in the bathroom. I arrived in time to see Slightly, my white and spotted tabbycat balancing on the plant in the basket, trying to catch a lizard on the wall. I removed the kitty from the bathroom, closed the door, then checked my violet. There are exactly two leaves left intact. The rest were on the floor and on the back of the commode cover. So much for taking the plant home to "save" it. I did stick the broken off leaves in potting soil, maybe some of them will root.

PS: Slightly is on "time-out"

***Edit: This is an example of what my African Violet plant looked like in January. The flowers dropped off after a few weeks. As the months went by, the plant got bushier and about 4 to 5 inches tall.***

Oh no. Poor Slightly. He's probably wondering what he did that was so wrong.

I'm sorry about your African Violet. They are beautiful plants and I can never get them to grow at all. I can't imagine one the size of yours. How lovely that would be.

I hope this remaining one recovers from Slightly pouncing on it.

Cat's ya gotta love em. Slightly sounds like he was just having a good ole time. Hopefully that leaf will grow for you.

Hugs,
Mary

Poor plant, poor Slightly, and poor you. Hopefully, the plant will come back to life.

Hey, thanks everyone. It only took about 10 minutes for Slightly to be snuggling back up and following me around the house. He knows when he's done something to displease me because I don't talk to him in a baby voice. But I forgive very easily. I can always buy another plant in the spring, but I can never replace Slightly's love.

That's so not cool.. you put all that effort in and it all goes to waist

But also it's kinda like a laughing/crying matter.

edit: I just realized, this is probably the first time I'm rambeling around in your blog. I saw you on the Shelbings locator and right now I followed a link from someone elses blog. I'll add you to my friendslist if you don't mind

I bet your Slightly has a lizard and plant drawing somewhere and an "X" through it
Question: Where is the lizard now?!?

Hi monster_monster and Kimba66. Welcome and thank you for stopping by my page.

monster: Well, I was really sad when he broke off all of the leaves, but I couldn't stay upset at him because he rubbed up against my leg and mewed like a baby. BTW I'd love to have you as my friend.

Kimba66: The lizard escaped behind a picture on the wall. I can't be sure, but I think I saw him stick his tongue out at Slightly from behind the frame!

I have no clue what an African Violet looks like. I'm sure it must be pretty though. Do you have a picture by any chance?
