Ratings

Ok i've been going through some of my ratings and found a couple of albums/artists i think i rated a bit too highly. Corrected a few of them. Anyhoo all those 10000 artists and albums i rated have been ceremoniously wiped of the face of the site completely thanks to the make over this site has had. Looks like i spent all that time for nothing! Thanks guys!
Also running out of stuff to listen to! I think i'm actually getting bored of music!! Any suggestions on what i should listen to now?

Deadwing Porcupine Tree

This album is absolutely brilliant! - from start to finish, a meandering ride through the best progressive rock you'll ever listen to. I believe everyone needs to listen to this album first and progress downward through their discography to truly appreciate their genius. Although slapped for being too mainstream, this album is still one for the collection. All its songs beautifully crafted and well arranged. Among the gems in this jewel-incrusted album include the haunting 'Lazarus', the 12 min epic 'Arriving Somewhere But Not Here', and 'Shallow', which seems strangely misplaced when one considers Wilson's previous offerings but is good none the less. What you waiting for? BUY BUY BUY!!

Signify Porcupine Tree
""
One thing that strikes you about Signify is how different it is in contrast to both Porcupine Tree's older pieces and to "Deadwing" and "In Absentia". The most remarkable difference being in the arrangements, though very Porcupine Tree-ish, its more ambient and easy listening than anything else. Best thing to listen to on a lonely, rainy yet not depressing, tuesday evening.
The album begins on a abrupt note after starting with "bornlivedie" which suddenly goes into the album title track instrumental "Signify", which i must say is the most misplaced song on this album. A bit to heavy for an album like this, a reminiscent infact of "Deadwing". While "Sleep of No Dreaming", "Waiting" and "Every Home Is Wired" keep the albums mood intact, "Intermediate Jesus" "Light Mass Prayers" and "Pagan" fill up the rest of the album but in no way being just fillers but integral instrumental parts of the album. "Dark Matter", which closes things off, is in my opinion one of the best songs Porcupine Tree ever wrote. Beautifully crafted and well produced, its a real gem!
All in all, a superb album. Must buy for fans and essential listening for art-rock lovers.

Mezzanine Massive Attack

I've been raving about this album from the moment i heard it. Yes i've heard Blue Lines as well, but, frankly speaking, it doesnt even match up to this album! Blue Lines in my opnion was actually quite mediocre if not plain bad (at times).
Mezzanine's first 5 songs will pretty much have you hooked at first try esp. Teardrop. (Elizabeth Fraser should do more work with Massive attack, they make an amazing combo). Not to say that the rest are not worth listening too, Dissolved Girl happens to be my personal favourite.
Mezzainine mood is much more darker and better produced than most of their other albums. Reminescent in fact of Becoming X and Maxinquaye. Another album to add to the wish list if its not already there.

X&Y Coldplay

Now this is what i hate most about highly succesful bands. Make one or two very good, highly succesful albums and let all the follow ups go to pot! Why coldplay even bothered with X&Y is beyond me, to me it looks like they ran out of all creativity. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood To The Head were brilliant (though similar) as albums, excellently crafted and had no shortage of good songs. X&Y does have its saving graces - Speed of Sound for example, but it tends to grate on the nerves eventually. My advice - save your money, unless your a die hard fan or can procure the said album by 'alternative' means. Hint hint wink wink.

I had heard 'Love Burns' before and like it so much that i'd though i'd give the album a listen. It was an instant favourate! Noisy guitars, Ample feedback, Dark lyrics - A must listen for any grunge/noise rock fan.
The album sounds very british - something like The Verve's - A Storm in Heaven except a lot more noisy and a lot less clear but definately more catchy. The moods in every song sway alternately from happy to sad. After listening to the moderately depressing 'Love Burns' and 'Red Eye's and Tears' your next confronted with the punky 'Whatever Happened To My RocknRoll' which is not an unwelcome change and not in poor taste. These album has a variety while still keepnghold of its original theme. If your a Verve, Mezzanine(Massive Attack) fan, i suggest you give this one a try. You wont be dissappointed.
