The Stomps at 400 Bar - The Gig From Hell aka ROCK STAR TRAINING
So, my band headed out, 90 miles up to Minneapolis to play this gig which we THOUGHT was going to be halfway decent. We were headlining at this place called the 400 Bar which had a pretty impressive past lineup and looked like a pretty sweet place according to their internet site. Red Daughters were opening up, with a $5 cover charge at the door, and we got paid according to the proceeds. Sounds like a good deal! Well, we get there and sound check and all that good stuff, etc. Red Daughters played at 9, kicked ass for about 40 minutes, then finished up. Well, the only people that showed up the entire time were their friends, maybe 8 or 10 people, none of which were old enough to drink, and none of which paid the cover charge. So, we get onstage and play our set, skipping about one-third of the songs because the place was so empty. About 3/4 of the way through, Red Daughters + Entourage left, leaving 5 people in the bar: my gf Tina, Zach's friend Scott, the sound guy, a bartender, and a chick taking money at the door. So, anyway, I guess nobody did their job with promotions, and it cost us about $60 to play that crap gig: gas, dinner, and we even had to buy our own drinks at the 400.
The road to success is long and hard, that's why we call it ROCK STAR TRAINING.
Peace to you all.
