A Scary Incident + A Lovely Sunday

Greetings, Everyone! Hope everyone had a nice three day weekend, and a great Thanksgiving for all of my Canadian friends.

The other night, while watching TV, I kept hearing this funny scratching sound in our living room wall, where the fireplace is located. But everytime I got up to look what was making the noise, there didn't seem to be anything around that could be the cause of the noise. Well, a few minutes later, I heard the same noise, only this time it was right behind the couch I was sitting on! I didn't even have time to look behind the couch because about two seconds later, A SQUIRREL CAME RUNNING OUT FROM BEHIND THERE!!!! I nearly had a heart attack! At first I though maybe it was just a big mouse, but then I saw it's bushy tail. Plus, it jumped up on some shelves and was climbing up them. I managed to get two pics in, although they're not very well defined. squirrel 1

Apparently, it got in the house from the chimmeny and fireplace. Fortunately, while it was scampering on the shelves, it jumped on to one of my cousin's toys and the toy and squirrel both toppled on to the floor, where it ran back to the place where it got in. There apparently was a small opening on the side of the fireplace where it got in, so my parents fixed it. Not only that, but once we were all sure that the late night visitor had gone out of the chimmey, and back to where it belongs, we lit up the fireplace to ensure nothing else got any ideas about coming in.

Moving on to less scary topics, yesterday, because of the lovely weather outside, I decided to take my brother and sister to the Stone Church. For those of you who don't know, the Stone Church is a cave-like formation complete with a waterfall. To get there you hike through this huge field, on winding and sometimes rocky paths, across a little bridge and past streams and mini waterfalls. It's the highlight of my boring town, and definitely a beautiful and fun place to go.

BTW: Inside the Stone Church itself is a ladder, made of logs, that if you climb up you can see this huge waterfall. EVERYBODY climbs the ladder, although before yesterday I never had. However, I conquered my fear of heights, and climbed away! It was amazing!!! My brother even climbed it after me.

Before leaving we all stopped and had some snacks and water while resting on a big rock by a pond.

After our hike, I brought my brother and sister to the school playground nearby, where they also had a great time.

It's interesting to see the differences from last year's Stone Church blog and this one. However the fun of going there is always the same.

Hope everyone enjoyed the blog! Later!

Swoop! Awesome blog! We haven't been keeping in touch very well, so this will make up for it! I remember a blog you created about the Stone Church a while ago, so it's nice to see it again. Squirrel! Reminds me of Christmas Vacation! Have an awesome week!

Creepy about the squirrel...we had a bat upstairs in one of the bedrooms last month and that was freaky. My poor husband had to wrangle it like a man and he was as scared as I was! Beautiful fireplace, by the way...bet that's toasty on these crisp Fall days...and great photos.

Crisp fall days, huh, EM? It's 9F here this weekend and that doesn't include the windchill!! I guess the good thing is that it keeps critters to a minimum.

Anyway, lovely blog, Gabriella. You sure do have some strange run-ins with the fauna in your 'boring' town. Thank you for sharing the story and the lovely pictures. Thank you for the nice Thanksgiving wishes and I hope you have a great squirrel free week ahead.

Wow what agreat weekend! I love squirrels although greys are outlaws here now, we're trying to preserve our red population up here in Northumberland. The Stone Church sounds wonderful

That does sounds scary; I would've been startled myself if a squirrel suddenly came zipping out from underneath the couch. Stone Church looks like a beautiful place.

Al:Lol, I know, I've been busy going through old financial papers for my aunt. I haven't even seen a movie in a LONG time. TCM keeps showing stupid stuff at night and putting great Halloween type movies on at 4 am. The old SC blog was the second or third you ever commented on of mine!!!!

Millerem: I'm not sure what's scarier: A jumpy squirrel or a bat that could fly in your face.:O Glad your house is now bat free! Thanks, I like the fireplace and pics too.

Karl: I know, must be my Snow White qualities. Brrrr... wouldn't want to be in freezing snowy Canada now!

Fangle: There's a red squirrel that lives in my yard!:O Everytime someone leaves the house, it sits in it's tree and makes these angry squirrel sounds. Last year, one of them built a nest type thing on the underside of one of the family cars. They're nice, but can be real pains sometimes.

Pika: It's definitely one of my top 10 most startling moments. The stone church is quite a lovely place indeed.

That squirrel story is pretty scary. We had a mouse that climbed into the dryer vent once and was scratching about inside the vent - that was scary - we managed to get it out and out of the house! Stone Church trip sounds lovely!

Caroline: Eeek, a mouse in the dryer vent! That thing must have really been making a lot of noise in there.:O We have mice sometimes too, but squirrels are pretty rare. Yes, it was quite lovely. Now... off to watch, The Secret Life of Bees (an early b-day gift).
