My top 10 of 2009.

2009 has come and gone, so here are my favourite games of 2009 (in no order):

  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS)
  • LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias (Wii)
  • Wii Sports: Resort (Wii)
  • Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)
  • Little King's Story (Wii)
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
  • Street Fighter IV (360)
  • Assassin's Creed II (360)
  • Modern Warfare II (360)

-

Though out of that list, the game I had the most fun with, and thus being my Game of The Year 2009, was Assassin's Creed II. I loved every minute of the game and it was just amazing. The close second is New Super Mario Bros Wii, because its just plain fun and I love it for that.

-

The more and more I play Silent Hill the more I realize how much I love it and how its easily one of my favourite Wii titles. Its just so good and I've never played anything like it.

-

Street Fighter IV was a great game for me, because it brought me back into the fighter genre and made me like playing fighting games again (Apart from Brawl). I will probably get Super Street Fighter IV later on this year.

For Christmas I got...
  • Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass from my Aunt (she had my name in the gift exchange)
  • The Beatles Rock Band (From my mom she also wanted this game)

  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy
  • Linksys Wireless Router

Green is a gift, Dark Teal is what I bought with my giftcard, Light Blue is what I bought, and Orange I bought part of it but my dad bought the rest since it was for the family.

Level 50

Yep, that took forever. If I had kept at it like I had and not dropped off I could be level 58 at least. (Judging from the fact 2ndwonder passed me in the upper 40s and he's 56 now. >_>) (And dropped a couple levels from mods. >________>)

Anyway that's fine. I have actually started to be here more, but just in Decker's UCB mostly. OT is pretty tough going these days, I try to show up in the regular forum and RC there, but like I said it's tough these days. >__> So that's pretty much it, glad you people still read this.

A bid farewell

I don't even know why I'm doing this but here goes anyways....

I'm pretty much going to stop blogging from now on, or should I stopped blogging 2 months ago ? In any case I have grown tired of blogging on Gamespot and pretty tired of Gamespot altogether. This website used to be something years ago when it was active and full of life. Now the only thing it's full of is 13 yrs old kids who think they know something about gaming or whatever they talk about.

For those who read this and are 13 yrs old don't take it bad I'm not necesseraly talking about you but rather those who speak in your name.

In this blog I have interacted with many amazing people and discussed many topics regarding video gaming and some stuff happening in my life. Gamespot has been something, now it's just a dull place.... broken behind the scenes (unions and such) and it lost all of it's meaning to me. I don't think I'll come back so often to Gamespot anymore, or at all. I still post (very rarely) in a union and (even rarer) in forums, but beyond that, you should pretty much consider me gone.

I used to say that there is no such thing as ''quitting Gamespot'', I still stand by that and that's why I'm not saying that I quit, just that you won't notice me here any longer...

Gone are the days of the unions, vibrant little communities within gamespot. Gone are the amazing video features by key reviewers, those we have now are just generic. Gone are the days of the good ol' gamespot, where you always wanted to go to the site, post, watch videos and etc...

I'm still gaming, still want to become a game developer and so I will still visit this site for reviews but for news I pretty much use only Kotaku. It's been a long run, I've met a lot of great people (murlow12, Phantom5800, REVOLUTIONfreak just to name a very few) but most of them (if not all) have already quit or have been MIA now, some have been gone for a very long time now.

So for all of those who made my experience on Gamespot a great one, thank you, it's been fun.

PS: I also deleted my union (The Nintendo Online Community Union), once again thanks to all those who made this union possible and helped me build it and make it the great Nintendo community that it was. It's time was done long ago and now I gave it the kiss of death and it's gone. Thanks for everything everyone! I'll never forget all the great moments I've lived within that union and how happy I was to lead it and manage it.

Malakoff Rockfestival, deviantART, Monkeys, oh my!

It's been, what, one and a half years since my last update?

Anyway, schools has been over for a while now.. was in Bulgaria with nine other friends not too long ago. I must say, it can get pretty crazy down there. Only a couple of days until my town's rock festival, Malakoff Rockfestival, begins. Really looking forward to it. Big names like Kaizers Orchestra, Turbonegro, Motorpsycho and many more... going to be sick. The festival is in the little town knows as Nordfjordeid, and is on the west coast of Norway. Be-a-utiful place, actually.

Since the last update, I've started my own deviantART page. Although...I haven't worked too much on my art this year. But if you want to check it out, go ahead. I actually found an old Gamespot friend on the site, and he's got some pretty cool stuff going on. Check it out here: Linkydoodle.

Due to the lack of games that have come out, I started playing some old adventure klassiks such as Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlandis, Sam & Max Hit the Road, The Secret of Monkey Island™, Monkey Island™ 2: LeChuck's Revenge™ and The Curse of Monkey Island™. These games are filled to the brim with awesome, and I just can't get enough of them! I tested out the special edition of Monkey 1, but it's just not the same... AT ALL. There's just something about pixels and pixel art. It's just plain awesome. But Monkey Island 3™'s $tyle was also great! The art, animation, was great! Just imagine what they could do with today's technology! That was back in '97. Broken Sword was also a fantastic point and click game. It's a real shame that we won't be seeing more of point and click adventures... They were the best. I tried Tales of Monkey Island, but it's just not the same. But I can't wait for Tim Schafer's Brütal Legend! Looks siiiick! Oh, and I wonder whatever happened to Ron Gilbert's (one of the famed LucasArts men behind Monkey Island) new project: Death Spank. Described as "Monkey Island™ meets Diablo"... yes, please!

Other than that, there isn't really that much to say. Starting my last year of high school soon... going to rock, I guess. This year it's my turn to be a russ!

Cheers

A heart attack, baby

The day after the biggest news of the decade hit the front pages around the world, I thought Michael Jackson's death would quickly be old news, specially given the Internet standards... Nothing could last long after such massive overload. But this is the biggest news of the decade and Michael Jackson is the biggest pop artist of the past century. Unlike Michael, the news hasn't died, and it will last long, like Michael's memory.

That's quite good, cause though I've waited a bit not to post in the heat of emotions, it's still hot. On the other hand, this might feel like - who am I lying to? This is just another little piece of the Michael Jackson craze. But here goes a little story on how I came to enjoy his music, and specially why.

I was born twenty years ago, in 1989, during the Bad era. But even though the Michael mania had reached worldwide proportions years before, my constant changes of addresses with my parents and their more conservative tastes prevented me for even realizing there was a 30 years old man (can you believe it? That full grown man still looked like a teen back then) owning the pop universe. Michael Jackson still had 20 years to live. Or should I say, to endure. After Bad, his life was going to change - and so would his music.

The earliest memory I have of Michael Jackson? Some images of the Ghosts video and his constant appearances on TV because of hanging his third child over the window and later because of the child abuse trials. That's kind of funny, I'm not sure if those images of Ghosts in my head are from its release. That's 1997, and it coincides with another memory of mine, the kids from my clas.s arguing whether Michael did rock or pop (he did both, after all, though a lot more of the latter), so that may be it. And then there were the trials, so that's 2005 and by friggin 2005 and my sixteen years I still did not know what was the big deal about him. I knew he was supposed to be insanely famous, and supposed to have been black.

What I do perfectly remember is what my maths teacher said to his (and therefore my) clas.s in 2005 or 2006, when some of his students were laughing at the composers (like Mozart or Bach) he mentioned in his many off topic dissertations:

"Look, people have been listening to Mozart for three hundred years now. Do you think people will be listening to Michael Jackson in three hundred years?"

Back then, I was already deep in my flute studies, I didn't play anything pop at all, so I couldn't agree more, and that summed my feelings on MJ up pretty well.

Jackson was acquitted and faded out. He still had four years to live.

My life went on, and now it's December 2007. A friend, spending his holidays in Paris shows me Elite Beat Agents. Because of this game, our hot topic is music. For some reason he insisted I checked Michael Jackson, specially his Billie Jean performances. Why not? So, I checked it. It was electrifying indeed. Unique dancing. Loads of s.tyle. I couldn't stop checking all Billie Jean renditions he performed. But it felt like, you know, my new fad. I would eventually tire off of it.

I decided, however, to check the lyrics I couldn't catch by listening to it.

"She says I am the one..."

Your average love pop song, I thought. Only enhanced by the performer.

"But the kid is not my son..."

My jaw literally dropped. I'm not kidding here. It did drop, it dropped big time, and for one second I was in absolute haze. That song, that very song I had been listening for days, the song the audience was going crazy for, the song that young man was singing with such passion, was it really talking about such a serious matter?

I. Was. Sold. Pop was, as far as I knew, an easy, mainstream, shallow genre. But that was deep. The man who wrote that had to be at least that much profound. To date, I believe Jackson's strongest ability are his writing skills, above dancing, composing and singing. Given how he dances, composes and sings, that means a lot.

Faced with some concerns of my own, I forgot about Jackson for a while. Until I met a guy, who would become a great friend, and who was obsessed by the King of Pop, early 2009, this very year. Right when Jackson was getting ready to announce his next tour. He had five months to live.

And I would jump back into his universe. Not limited to Billie Jean and the Thriller era this time. I listened to everything I could, watched all there was to watch, read all that was available... I couldn't stop it, I had to find an answer to the enigma Michael Jackson was. And then came March 2009 and the new shows were officially announced. I was aware Michael was way past his prime and obviously didn't expect a new Thriller - but to witness a new development in his career was exciting nonetheless. I never planned to attend the tour, but to know the artist you are fascinated for is an active one has a totally different feel to it and it refreshed my search for that answer: what's Michael Jackson from the inside? How can a person like him even happen?

June 25th 2009, I was bored and decided to check a movie. There was that Notorious B.I.G. one. I only knew his stage name, so I thought it might be nice to have some insight on him. It was a great movie for a newbie like me and I was really moved by the ending and the images of his funeral. I asked myself:

"If such a young rapper, with such a short career and development, could trigger that much reaction, I wonder what will happen the day Michael Jackson dies..."

As that thought crossed and frightened my mind, Michael Jackson only had a few more thousand heartbeats to go, and I had my answer that same night. As a matter of fact, I couldn't sleep because of the worse storm I've seen ever since I left Brazil. I was fully awake when I received a text message on my cellphone, telling me the immortal Michael Jackson had died.

The Blood on the Dancefloor album second track, Morphine, had called for it:

"A heart attack, baby!"

That seems ages ago. But it doesn't seem that long since Michael Joseph Jackson invented - he didn't reinvent anything - pop. Or when he sang with his brothers with crystal clear voice.

Jackson invented pop and invented it so well no one has done significant pop ever since. I don't know much about pop aesthetics, but any meaningful music has got depth, sincerity, magic. All of those died with Michael Jackson, as pop music became an industry. Today, I am not so sure people won't listen to his music in three hundred years.

With Michael's death, we lose our chance to witness what could have been the biggest comeback ever. But my mother, who isn't really a fan of Michael Jackson, but knows her share about him, had a nice thing to say about it: Michael Jackson has done everything he could. Instead of mourning what his broken health took away from us, we should celebrate what his fight against it has provided: nothing less than Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Blood on the Dancefloor, Invincible. All of that instead of This is it, yes, I take that deal. Thank you Michael for not giving up halfway through, where so many wouldn't be able to take it.

Why didn't he give up when all the trouble in his life started? Well, because of one belief:

"If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with."

- Michael Joseph Jackson

And he sure knew he was loved. For he knew that, I'm at peace.

Speaking for the offline gamers

I was searching my closet for some of my summer shorts where i made a discovery.

I actually found my old gamecube box ( you know the box that the gamecube comes in!), so i picked it up and dust it off and looked at the back off it.

It had all sorts of crazy games posted on it like Luigi's mansion and Mario Cart double dash so i was like hey im going to play some Gamecube now!

So i unhooked my 360 and grabbed my gamecube from under my bed and fired that bad boy up! Man that Gamecube start up never gets old! I was suprised too see Timesplitters Future Perfect in there so im like alright i love this game so lets play..I was suprised to find that the controller was very comfortable and the buttons seem to not be sticky and the joysticks were still very stiff.

Back to the game though i just love the visuals for this game and it was very pleasent to the eyes. I was creating my own map which is always a blast on any game. This is unique because i think no other game can compete with this creation system. Its very simple!

Many hours later i finally shut it off and i was thinking to myself.....I miss my Gamecube and i miss playing it.

These days you cant really sit with a game and TRULEY ENJOY IT! Dont get me wrong titles like Fallout 3 and Forza 2 are fun to play mainly because they focus on single player action but im just saying they dont make games like they use to. These days its all about Insane graphics and 48 player multiplayer and require you to have HIGH SPEED INTERNET! Games like Call of Duty: World at War REQUIRE high speed internet for you to get the FULL experience of the game.

What i really want game developers to do is to put an even amount of effort to appeal to offline users as much as they apeal to the online gamers too. Not everyone can have high speed internet connection! I just want people that buy games get their moneys worth. Paying 60 bucks for for a movie experience campaign and very little extras? No thanks..

I give props to Epic games for at least trying to appeal to the offline gamers by adding bot matches on all the multi player maps with all the awsome game modes avaliable, i think they were trying to give them a good experience.

Yeah well i probably went on too long babbling a bunch of non-sense but whatever...thanks for reading!

I Did Pretty Well On That Test

I definately without a doubt got a 3. (Top 50% of test which is good for some colleges). Although I think there is a chance I have gotten a four . (A 4 is the top 25% of people who took the test). So yeah the studying definately paid off and I'm confident about the grade. Although unfortunately I was still a bit busy this weekend and couldn't come on much. Went out with friends last night and I'm going out again tonight.

Point is I will be coming back and I did well on the test. I get the grades in late July.

Hello Gamespot!
Been a long time since I posted here, been very busy and trying to get other things done. I still drop in from time to time but not like I used to. I still get a good amount of gaming in, but mostly late at night after everyone has gone to bed so I can't do louder work.

I'm playing Kameo, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Gears of War at the moment. I get some time in on the Wii, but really only with the kids. I'm waiting for the next must play game to hit.

I do need to drop in more often, galleonk clued me into the Tales site.

Check it out at the Tales Brigade. And if you want to join be sure to use Warfust as your referance!

Mikemoose is a pimp: part 2

There was a man named moose, or was it a moose named man? He became a pimp when a small rodent named larry attacked him and took his dignity. The only possession he had left was his 'bat' which he knew could only be used for pimping purposes. He has now retired from the pimping industry due to a phenomenon known as 'cleavage horror'.

tishphael wrote:

Well you get the idea. Tish is a crazy man who gushes gatorade from endless numbers of bodily holes. Both Tish and Moose have Fc'd Dragonflight with their nipples. You like it.

Tish is Dream theatre's #1 fan, he enjoys their shoes. Also new from PEZ the new PEZ condom depenser!!! Smiley face on every pack . Available in all good book stores. Smiley face condoms are the way of the future... you know it...

And do you know why he is? Cuz he is a pimp.... even though retired.... senile pimp!

Have you ever met the bear? The bear is a creature with a giant wang Tish found while looking through his 'collection'. You like the bear, and his face.

Q: How many dragonforce songs feature the words 'so far away'

A: About 20,000.

Grigrog: worlds greatest FAQ since 1769...teehee 69.

Bounce bounce bounce bounce.

I will die in october via being attacked by angry slayer fans from my trick or treat shananigans. I have a wart on my finger, his name is herbert, you like him.

I sincerely apologise to everyone reading this... It was partially a dare by Tish and Moose and partially me just thinking why the **** not.

Could Grig be back? Find out on the next episode of Mikemoose is a pimp.

Go Ahead, Guess What This Blog Is About! I Dare You!

For the 90% of you that guessed Super Smash Bros Brawl, ding-ding-ding. You're correct. I picked up SSBB a day later than everyone else (Monday the 10th, for those of you who'd prefer not to use your brain), and probably haven't played it nearly as much, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is freakin awesome.

I'm not even going to try and explain why this game is so great, because I wouldn't be able to put it into words. It's the same SSB you've always loved except with more levels, more characters, more content (i.e - the SSE takes about 8 hours to beat), and more freakin awesomeness.

So yeah, just thought I'd let you all know. Peace.

Man, I can't believe this! I've been hacked out of my XBL has been hacked twice this week!!! First time was on Sunday and when I finally recovered my account (back to normal). Less then 5 hours later it's been hacked again!!! This is 100% bs!!!! If your on my list and if you get any weird and(/or) offensive messages, dont attack me! MS isn't doing anything about this and now I'm on my own. I went to xbox.com forums to get some possible solutions. This isn't fair I didn't play my xbox for a very long time and now (most possibly) I'm going to get a new account and start all over from the begining... . Man, why do people do poeple have to be rude all the time?? I don't know to what's going to happen to my acount now, but I hope to add you guys over again if I do have to change my account (and I'm not going to post my GT here on GS, so PM me when the blog of me getting a new account comes for my GT).

And No One Comments
lols, maybe thats why Gamespot isn't as fun as it used to be, no one ever comments my blogs anymore, maybe I just need to search the forums for some new friends.. Anyways, I've been playing Final Fantasy 8 alot lately, I guess I'll just muck my way through it and Pikmin until Christmas, I also need to put some much needed reviews up. I guess I have Winter break to do that, I'll be home all day pretty much by myself for like 2 weeks, so i'll get some stuff done then.. ^_^

It's Been Fun

Well, I'm afraid I'm leaving Gamespot, and this will be my last blog post ever. It's been a tough decision to make, but I feel as though it's necessary. I'm hardly alone, yet many people still don't understand the need for people to go. As much as I would love to ignore what's happened and stay here, it's simply the wrong thing thing to do morally. Staying here is doing them a favour, regardless if you're a subscriber or simply just being on their sites and watching their ads - it all helps them.

Really, they don't deserve it.

So, I'm gone; my being here would be as if to say I don't care what they did, and I do. I'm sorry if you don't understand this, but I'd never feel okay with staying.

It's especially upsetting as Gamespot used to be such a fantastic site. I had nothing but respect for Gamespot and all its crew, but Gamespot has since changed, and regardless of whether or not it bothers you enough to leave, you can't deny it's true.

Anyway, enough about that; what I really want to say is how much I'll miss a lot of you.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Gamespot experience, even though it had to end this way. Posting these blogs was a lot of fun for me, and it really made it worthwhile with your comments and support. There's no denying that these forums are great, and while we all know they're full of idiots, the intelligent and often hilarious people here make it worth it. Meeting you was an absolute pleasure, and I wish you all the best with your future lives - you've been great friends.

If you ever wish to contact me - and please, feel free - haokuaileyun@hotmail.com is the address.

I honestly will miss this page, and I want to thank you all for coming here.
