I was so unbelievably excited to get the new Paul McCartney album that i went out and bought it the day it was released without hearing anything about it. That was unfortunately a mistake that cost me 18 bucks. The first few songs are alright, and i would even say that "Jenny Wren" is a very good song, but after that it all goes wrong.
This album was so shockingly boring i had to check again to see if it was actually made by Paul McCartney and Nigel Godrich. There is nothing exciting or fresh about the songs (which i have come to expect from Godrich having produced Radiohead and Beck) which you wouldnt even be able to tell were produced by Godrich. The songs themselves (besides Jenny Wren) are poorly written with such obvious rhyming schemes that I found my self almost able to sing along with the words on my first listen. If an unknown singer came to a record company with these songs, they would laugh at him. It is so shocking to see a man who has written so many unbelievable songs to actually release an album such as this. Why anyone would even consider recording songs like these is beyond me. It is sad to see such an amazing songwriter completely lose his touch.
This album was the biggest musical disappointment that i can remember besides Elton John's terrible performance with that awful singer(who was obviously his new boy toy) at the Live 8 concert. If i could return my CD i would but i guess i'll just have to be the first of many to contribute it to my local used record store.
