Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Raekwon
"Masterpiece"
This is the last great Wu-Tang album. Too bad it was so long ago. Pick it up now, you still can't figure out what they are talking about. It is filled with street scriptures that tell you of what hip hip used to be. Buy it now!! Good music to the ears, it's what east coast rap is about.

Album Review

Doggystyle Snoop Dogg
"Influential"
This album is both a west coast classic and a hip hop classic. It is just too darn influential to deny it. This album is all snoop, he stole the show on the Chronic and fully absorbs the listner on this album. You want to fast forward through most of the guest appearances which are pretty darn good.
Snoop inlfuenced a generation on this album even more so than NWA's straight out of compton because of blinding mainstream attention and the fact that he both captured and infected white america with the thug germ. Everyone knew snoops name, he was the shiznit. 50 cent, Game, East Coast thugs, all the want to be's: snoop gave you license to exist with this one... bow down.

Illmatic: 10th Anniversary Platinum Edition Nas
"Timeless"
Even though now with his lyrical innovation retarding and most of his content seems to deal with reminiscing,Nas remains the most gifted MC to hold a mike. Like how Brando changed the game in streetcar, no one has ever had more potent and raw talent than Nas, but no one has also squandered or misappropriated that talent like nas.
Even so, he is underappreciated and every review I read downplays the signifigance of illmatic and how it forever changed hip hop. Illmatic was not just one of the great albums of the 90's, it is the purest, most potent rap album to date. For just flows, rhyming style, and lyrical ability it is peerles.
Nas' failure to duplicate Illmatic has caused people to deny him his rightful place as the most gifted MC. Nas is independent and caters to his own tastes, let eminem and jay z outwork him and is not one for fan pleasing. After Streets Disciple he now seems to have left hip hop and is going into more ecclectic areas like Miles Davis- like Brando was towards the end of his career, so is Nas: a peerless, drifting mega-icon who only shows us flashes of his greatness. Blinded by his vanity and talent he feels he does can produce superb joints some of the time. When referring to hip hop, true hip hop heads know there is either before nas or after nas, illmatically speaking.
