Dave Goes To LIberty City

So, I haven't finished GTA IV, but here's how I'm finding it so far.

Well, it starts off showing a guy getting punished by a mistress. Kinda freaky, but whatever. After a while of conversation, sprinkled with the ever colourful accent of the "old country". Niko is a man who wants a new start in The Land Of Opporunity, and his cousin promises this, but, his cousin is a filthy liar. The first thing I noticed, is that Niko is a generally likeable guy. Previous entries in the GTA series have had us running around as Tommy Vercetti, the typical criminal. Unfortunately, due to the Hot Coffee controversy, I missed out on San Andreas, but what I did play of SA was not impressing.

Anyway, Liberty City is all new. The minute you walk out onto the street, it screams New York. It even comes with foul-mouthed New Yorkers. It rocks. So, I went to steal a car, and I am used to jumping in, and finding the keys in the ignition. But, the door was locked. This was expected. But what shocked me, was Niko smashed the window, and the game had me hitting the triggers, madly hot wiring the car. Unfortunately, the police saw me, and I was into a chase.

The driving in the game has also been revised. Instead of flying around corners at 110km/h, with no reprecussions, you will find yourself having to brake, lest you spin out and end up with your car in a wall. But, have no fear. For most cars, this is a simple thing, and will feel fluid with a bit of practice. Anywayz, the police are following me, and it seems about what you'd expect. Sirens, speed, wanted stars. But then in my mini-map, there's a flashing red and blue circle. This circle shows how far you have to go before you can escape the police. One star is easy. Two stars is kinda tough. And that's as high as I've gotten so far.

So, I get away, but my car is a wreck. Luckily, Niko is far more agile than his predecessors. He can climb, vault over small fences, swim, and other stuff. What makes this such a big leap, is how smooth it looks. Normally, GTA characters are essentially robots. Niko, though still retaining a slight robotic aura, moves much smoother, and it's just good, and makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.

You'll be hearing more once I've finished the game, so yeah, I highly suggest buying it now.

Gloves... Friend or Foe?

So, I broke out my old gloves the other day cause winter was starting to set in, and when I took them off, my hands felt completely dry. Too dry. If I moved my hand, it felt like there was no moisture whatsoever. So, I have come to the conclusion my gloves are evil. Yes, in fact, one of them was the stunt double for Michael Jackson's white glove. I SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING!

Suggestions For Lego Games

I love the Lego games. They're strange, often stupid, but have an undeniable charm you only really get when you actually play. SO far it's just been Star Wars, but Indiana Jones and Batman are on the way. What other movies/games would be awesome in Lego?

(these are not being sent to LucasArts or Traveller's Tales)

Is It Wrong To Break Out Into Song And Dance?

This is just a small post, but I really need anyone to comment. Am I weird if I break out into song and dance at random intervals of the day?

Double Post: Kevin Rudd's Apology to the Aboriginals and Valentine's Wishes!

Howdy, jack_sparrow_28 here, with my first ever... "DOUBLE POST"! These are designed for situations when there's too much stuff I gotta say, and I wanna keep it to one post, so here we are. First up, Kevin Rudd's "Sorry Speech" to the Aboriginals and the Stolen Generation.

For any Americans who have no idea what I'm on about, here's the deal. In the early 1900's, the early Aussies decided to start taking Aboriginal kids fom their parents, it was mostly half castes (part white, part black), but full blown Aboriginals were taken as well. This was basically to eliminate the Aboriginal race altogether, because they were seen not as a dignified race with a diverse culture, but a and to quote "problem". This went on for years, but around 30 years back, it was stopped. I'm not great at history, but that's basically a brief overview. So, John Howard, our former Prime Minister (equivalent to your President), despite enormous pressure from the Aboriginal population would never formally apologize for the actions of the early Aussies, and from my memory, I only ever heard him say "We regret what happened" yadda yadda yadda. So, now, we got a new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd (he looks a bit like the Milky Bar Kid), and over the radio, on the telly, and in front of thousands of Aussies, black and white, formally apologized and said "Sorry" for what happened. In my opinion, this apology was waaaaay overdue, and I think it'll make a lot of people happy. It won't instantly cure all the problems which have developed because of the Stolen Generations, but it's a start.

Now onto the Valentine's Wishes.

It's Valentine's Day! Or it should be by the time anyone reads this, if not, think of it as an early Valentine's thing. In any case, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! This goes out to everyone with or without a special someone, and I hope that anyone with a special someone makes today extra special, and anyone without someone special will sum up the guts to go and wish anyone they fancy a Happy Valentine's Day. Me? We'll, I don't have anyone, and the girl I fancy is my best mate's girlfriend, so I'm stuffed. Yeaaaaahh... I coulda ended this better.

American Idiot Green Day
"Masterpiece"
Green Day has been around for ages now, but with their 2004 album "American Idiot", they have created something great.

The album, if listened to in one big go, seems to simply slide from one song to the next, except for the title song. The album can be interpreted in two ways. One, it tells the story of a boy who calls himself "The Jesus Of Suburbia", from his teens, to adulthood. And two, the songs, especially "American Idiot", are going against George Bush, but without seeming liek they are trying to fit into the Punk-Rock genre. Also, it's just great fun to listen to.

"American Idiot" is a brilliant album, and if you're parents don't mind a slight lean towards political opinions in music, there's a lot to be found here.
