I think RE5 is alright

Its not that bad in my opinion. Granted I've never been that big a fan of the over the shoulder view and the camera sucks but over all its built upon the action premise that RE4 started quite nicely. Is it survival horror? not really, but its still does alright in my book.

I think the element of surprise is lost upon RE5 and has been replaced with higher expectations. I doubt most people expected RE4 to be as successful as it was, especially seeing as how the franchise was in the doldrums leading up to its release. With 5 being the first iteration on next-gen platforms the knitpickers are going to be coming out of the woodworks in droves, but I do agree with your stance.. the game wasn't bad.. but certainly will put the final nail in the coffin of the series being considered survival horror anymore.

Yeah, now it's more like Gears of War than survival horror, which is kinda funny because it was RE4 that inspired Gears in the first place. What I really appreciate about RE5 is outstanding graphics and pretty solid action shootong.

I played the demo a few more times and i'm still not happy with the controls. Such a beautiful game and they had to ruin it with archaic gameplay.

RE4 was awesome, and this looks pretty good also

Very disappointed in the gameplay myself. Felt like... over the shoulder left 4 dead with broken controls and a change of scenery. It was definitely easy on the eyes though.

I think the new camera is more trouble than it really is. The fixed Cameras were just fine. People who didn't like it should stick to games like "house of the Dead" :[ RE5 is alright! Im still buying it cause there's no other zombie game out there on the PS3.

I remember during the late 90's there were many who treated fixed camera angles as the bane of all existence(obviously due to RE games).. I find it ironic that more contemporary RE titles are blasted for basically the complete opposite.

hehe good point King. Static camera has always been synonomous with survival horror, for me anyway. Something about prepetually not being able to see around the proverbial corner that, perhaps inadvertantly, adds tension to horror games. This is something that Capcom, I think accidentally on purpose stumbled upon and has been a sort of onofficial model for survivor horror and the bane of every gamer's exististance, including mine, as time went on. Innovation is good and I think that survivor horror has been taboo because of the lack thereof. Recently, beginning with RE4 I'd say, the same company that brought us the dreaded static camera decided to once again "experiment" with what has been a standard in the genre. Ultimately it has created a kind of paradox in that, the new style seems to contradict the old static style in the hope of fixing the limitations brought on by the latter. The bottom line is that both styles end up deriving some of the same frustrating limitatations. Overall I'd say time will tell and you definately cant slight Capcom for playing around with the standard and by all means the new camera doesn't entirely detract from the survivor horror element alone. I think what somewhat dissapoints me is the lack of pacing in the newer RE games. Its a lot faster and action based as opposed to the more cerebral slower paced of the older titles. Really it boils down to Fast zombies versus Slow zombies, a sign of the times I guess. Nonetheless I'm looking forward to RE5 the demo was totally fun to me; I more impressed with it so far than SH: Homecoming. I think that by the time RE5 releases its going to be sick.
